Its going to my office. We get deliveries at all times of the day from the same shipping companies. Its like some weird twilight zone where they don't know what they are doing. I am uber excited.

Some of the things on everyone's mind are:

    • How it compares to the 7960M XT in actual game performance. (When used in Skyrim, Crysis, and Stalker - like in Stefan's tests.)
    • How long the battery lasts under regular use.
    • Further details about build quality, weight, etc. (Track-pad, Keyboard)
    • General first impressions overall.

If you could get those kinds of details to us, that would be great! if you don't have those particular games, just let us know the 3DMark score, etc. Thanks so much - your payment for all this is getting your laptop first. :D

If the 7690m is the 6750m rebadge... then what is the 7670m supposed to be? this all sounds suspect until someone actually tests the 15"

    I've figured it out.

    • The 7690M is a re-badge of the 6750M with improvements.
    • The 7690M-XT is a re-badge of the 6770M with improvements.

I think that's as simple as we're gonna get with this. Also, to clear it up, there is no 7670M, that was a name for the card that HP used before they got the final name - the 7690M.

    Hope this helps. :D

Also if anyone purchased a envy 15 without the full hd screen if you could pm me your serial number and product number it would be appreciated. That way I could check my CSN and find out if your graphics card shows up as a 7690m as mine does with the fhd screen or as the 7670m as partsurfer shows for the 15.

The previous 15 had a 5830 (but no optical drive) but was then discontinued. The 17 received another update before the current gen and got a 6870.

Autoentropy may be the first one to get his E15, but i'll be the first one to tear it down on Friday when I get mine. I think people would be interested in:

-how to upgrade the HDD (should be easy)
    -same with RAM
-CPU upgrade-able? (better not copy MBP where everything is soldered on)
-replace CD drive with HDD bay
    -user removable battery?
-how to put everything back together without destroying it

I think you are wrong. It gives a good indication on where the graphics card stands compared to others. The GPU scored 6.9 which is the same as the 6770m or whatever they said it was based on so it makes sense. My PC GPU which is a 9800 GTX+ from 3 years ago scores 7.0 so at least I know the laptop will play the games I currently play. Not too interested in future games since I will use the console instead.

Next time your order something like this from Canada, if you're able to pick it up across the border from them, you should do that. I'm doing that, and I hope to get mine on Friday or Saturday morning from Ship Happens.

I really can't wait for my ENVY 17 3D - why must Friday be so far away!?

First time post here. Ordered my 15 on Sunday and is "in production" now with an estimated ship of 12/28. The dv6t I just returned actually arrived on its estimated ship date, so will be interested to see how fast this one gets put together--is there an average for how long the production phase takes?

I will be using this for photo editing--has anyone who's received one with the screen upgrade confirmed that it really is an IPS panel? Thanks!

WEI is not a benchmarking tool. It is a very rough estimate of the raw horsepower under the hood and doesn't take feature sets into account. It gives you a good indication of 'can I run most games' but no indication whatever about one GPU versus another.

No, the fact that WEI lists the numbers similarly does not mean anything. The detection in WEI is awful, and pathetically useless. Similar setups can get hugely disparate results, and very different systems can often get similar results. In fact, maxing out WEI with 7.9 doesn't even mean anything, as there are about 80 desktop cards from the last 3 generations what will all give you a 7.9, yet they vary in performance wildly. No one should be using WEI as a benchmark, at all.

FWIW, I've used WEI as a way to paint in VERY broad strokes -- like you're saying, Aquitaine. I wouldn't use it as a benchmark, but I would at least consider it a signpost of what a machine might / might not be capable of doing.

(also, as a guy that works at HP talking about new products, I'm sometimes hampered by not being able to go into parts that are NDA-ed. So I use a combo of WEI and real in-game benchmarks to least fill in more of the picture, when I can.)

Ah, did not know the 7670m did not actually exist, that makes more sense then. Here's to hoping the clocks are at least 100 MHz higher than the 6750m clocks, and that they can be oced to 6770 levels and beyond.
