Apparently there is a control panel where you can choose what graphics card it uses for what, or when it switched from one to another. You'll have to ask someone else for how to get to it though, but apparently it's not hard.

93 envy's from our forum so far and going up a little faster now.
I guessed 75 from the little poll I took before.
Where is all the data and pictures we were suppose to get from fellow forum members? -
I don't think you'd like the condition it would arrive in, if they did that
Anyway... enough obsessing over the delivery for me... I'm turning off my computer, and going to bed for the night. -
Congrats to everybody who has received or will be receiving your new Envy's. I hope you all love them. I myself settled on getting the Series 7 from a Microsoft store for my own set of reasons, but I hope each of you enjoys your new laptops as I love mine.
The main reason I posted though is the following. Can we please get a third option on the poll. I am interested to see how many of these actually sold but I have not bought one of my own.
Again congrats and thanks. -
^^Agreed, the very same people who were begging our swedish friend for info have gone quiet when theirs have supposedly "arrived".
-
Can you post a picture of your GPU-Z?
-
You can hit view poll results to see without voting.
-
Not sure about the new Envy but try right-click anywhere on the desktop and choose "Configure Switchable Graphics". That lets you choose AMD card or Intel graphics. Might be different on the new machines.
-
100mhz clock? 81mhz memory? Something doesnt seem right. -
agreed.
i think people are just making stuff up. it seems with every botched release i've seen on here, it's like if some info can't be found an NDA conspiracy emerges
it's silly -
Those are the idle clocks.
GPU-z isn't updated to display the default clocks yet, so you'll have to get the gpu running something and then check it to see the proper clocks.
Runa game in windowed mode, and check it then. -
Well this is my third time around with HP and being an early-adopter and in fact this isn't all that unusual for them in some ways. First time was with the ZR24W monitor and we were fighting over it and haggling and buying without even knowing the response time, color gamut or if it was really an IPS panel. Everybody at HP gave a different answer. You'd have thought it was the last monitor that was ever to be built! Well, they got here, most everyone was pleased, specs were better than expected; most folks were happy and HP did what it took to make the others happy.
Second time was with the Envy 14 and although there had been some reviews and specs, no one was sure about the Radiance Infinity screen and all the other stuff. Again, over 80% were pleased with the product.
I expect to be just as happy with the Envy 15 and if not, will take it up with HP at a later date. One of the few who got the i5 so am curious about running some tests with that and see how it stacks up to the i7. -
Yikes! Well-travelled Envys!
-
NDAs typically have a sunset date that has got nothing to do with reality. AMD may well say 'HP can't divulge details about our 7xxx line until 1/1/2012' while simultaneously selling thousands of those same parts to HP that they know full well will be in customers hands before that.
It's a mistake to imagine that there is one or even ten people who decide on this stuff. Legal + marketing (who are protecting an ambiguous and intangible 'brand') are doing one thing while the actual product people (who want us to have these laptops ASAP) are doing another. Simply because there is no simple reason that you or I can point to and because we only see the absurd result of this dilemma does not mean that it isn't a dilemma and it doesn't mean that they can violate their agreement with AMD willy nilly.
AMD doesn't care if we have these laptops or not. AMD cares that the companies who sign their NDAs follow them, and nobody at HP is going to risk his job just to get us some information we're going to have within the next 24 hours anyway.
My guess is that there is no strategy to this at all, that it just came down to 'do we sell them as they are, with the information we can release, or do we wait until January.' The fact that there are so many of us posting on the 252nd page of a thread about these laptops suggests that they were correct in releasing them now. -
Giving models of the GPU out to customers who can check what it is and report it to the entire world most certainly counts as "Disclosure". Thus, if there is an NDA still in effect, HP is in flagrant violation of it.
-
Can I get my envy first before we discuss this subject.
-
My 1st one arrived at Appleton,WI.
The second one is on the way to Memphis,TN
Looking Good! -
@edvb
Did you pay/choose 2-day shipping for either or both of your orders? -
No standard shipping.
The second one was with the 33% and 2 day shipping included. I also got the 12 month free financing plus another $40.00 off for signing up.
Not too shabby of a deal.
-
Fed-ex door tag on front door, attempted delivery ONE DAY EARLY!....No one home, tomorrow will have to do. And agree w previous caller...where are the pics?
-
You might think so, but in the bizarre-o world where these things are drawn up, it may very well not. Otherwise they wouldn't be selling them.
My point is that HP is going to do what it has agreed to do, even if that makes no sense to us. -
Ahh... well I'm very happy for you as a fellow 15-purchaser
, but I'm a bit miffed at how HP is toying with my man-emotions... I was actually perfectly fine expecting it to arrive after the 26th since I only got standard shipping, and then HP/fedex goes and tells me my toy is freezing its tail off in Anchorage, w/ an ETA of 12/22 10:30AM (to Los Angeles). But the tracking hasn't budged from Anchorage "In Transit" since yesterday, ~3pm. So I've gone from content => elated => confused => hopeful => "can't-seem-to-sit-still-anymore" antsy
EDIT: well shoot...in the 6 minute it took me to type that, Dec 21st "Departed Fedex" from Anchorage just appeared. I guess it should arrive by Friday at my door. Not bad! -
Good for you.
The second one seemed to go much faster through Anchorage for me.
Fingers crossed. -
My 17 3D will be here Friday morning, pretty excited about that! Ordered it on the 8th and expected it to not be shipped until AFTER Christmas. Chose the standard shipping too!
-
so far, from what we've seem. there isn't too much a difference between the 7690M and the 7690M XT. A slight bump in FPS in 3dmark11.

envy 15 Result
that difference doesn't seem like too much, and likely just different clock speeds.

so far in gpu-z they have different device ID's, and the stats for the 15 seem to be totally wrong. -
Mine arrived today, pretty damned impressed, but then again i'm upgrading from a PENTIUM4!! so almost anything will impress me
Funny all I had to do was leave a note that said "please leave my laptop here" on my door and it was waiting for me
the "radiance" display on the 15 is astounding BTW -
The 7690m has the same 480 SP whistler core as in the 7690m XT, the 6750m, and the 6770m. If someone could get GPU-z going while the card is booted up we can see the clocks, but I'm pretty sure it will say 600 MHz just like 6750m.
-
Congrats on your new laptop. Any chance we could get pictures (or video
)?
-
Is it possible to overclock that 600MHz further?
-
does CCC have AMD Overdrive? (hmm, gonna go look at my M17xR3 w/ 6990m. Never worried about OCing that).
edit: nope, no overdrive on my 6990m. I guess mobiles don't get it. probably can OC w/ afterburner, or rivatuner. -
I don't like this laptop :/ I'm going to grab a new battery for my mac book pro and ride it out another year and see what happens. I was so excited about my switch and I kind of expected what I got. I already miss Mac OS X so much. Windows just is not fun. It makes me want to kill myself. Its a beautiful design but there are a few flaws and the trackpad is unresponsive and it sucks. My 4 year old MBP has a better one. Oh well.
-
I would say maybe, unless they picked all the worst binned chips to make the lower cards. Cooling an overclocked gpu is always an issue in a laptop though, especially thin ones like these.
-
Ouch! That didn't last long...
-
Mine might hopefully arrive tomorrow, ahead of schedule:
Dec 21, 2011 5:23 PM
Departed FedEx location
ANCHORAGE, AK -
I dream to how ENVY 15 peforms in the same situation:
Without any view angle fails. -
The trackpad is seems so unresponsive compared to my 4 year old MBP is aggravating and seems like its just wasting my time. Trust me the body is beautiful and the screen is AMAZING but I don't think this laptop is for me :/ I think having macs for so long has spoiled me.
-
seriously, it's like buyers of the 15 don't own cameras, when I get home I'll take some shots with my gsII, not an slr, but it should serve well enough. -
The 7690M is 600 Core / 800 Memory. Also, my Envy 15 came with DDR3-1600 even though I ordered DDR3-1333. MSI Afterburner can't OC the 7690M past the 600/800 though, any other thoughts? ATI Tray Tools maybe?
-
I wouldn't call it spoiling, especially if you expect yourself to magically get used to the new touch-pad after what, 4 hours with it?
You need to try it for a bit longer, and damn, if the touch-pad is the ONLY reason for that response, uhm, wow.
Try getting the newest drivers for it, or even just try getting used to it, if not, you'll be spending thousands of dollars more for your precious touch-pad, and give up many of the other features.
-
Yeah maybe ATT. Bummer that Afterburner can't do it.
-
They're under an NDA too!!!!
-
I think the opposite about Mac OS X. I guess it is good for those that like to be in a box or don't like the option of customizing. I don't get why everything is grey and switching open windows is not nearly as intuitive as Windows. The best thing though is Windows has all the games and apps. but everyone has their opinion. Also, Apple sells their products at a very high mark-up.
-
I agree but it's not just the touchpad lol. I don't want to whine but I guess I love os x haha. Your right though I am being melodramatic I'm def going to spend more time with it.
-
I can kind-of understand that, but i seriously don't think a touch-pad and a new operating system are reasons to spend thousands more on a computer.
The touch-pad and OS a person can get used to, being "spoiled" by a mac is simply all in their mind, as a mac isn't any better than a windows pc, and vice versa.
Personally, from my time with a mac, I hated the fact you couldn't tap on the touch-pad to 'click', and that there was no right-click. Everything on a Mac just seems way, way, way overly-simplified to the point where you lose features.
But then again, that's my thoughts on it. I'm gonna love my ENVY.
Trust me, there's always an adjustment period when getting any new tech. Even moving from my first HP to the MALIBAL I returned, it took me about a week to properly get used to the chiclet keyboard from the old one.
If you look up some tips for Windows, and spend some time with the touch-pad, I'm sure you'll like the laptop - the pros will outnumber the cons if you just give it some time. Besides, you have 21 days to try it out and get used to everything before you have to decide. -
Well for one example I am looking for a windows counterpart to the mac adium. I want a transparent IM client on my desktop that can connect to facebook, google chat ect.
I'm going to have a friend come buy and help me out lol -
The Fedex flight is right over Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota right now.
About another 1.5 hours until landing in Indianapolis. -
Mine left on that same flight it seems, but my final destination is Sumas Washington!
Where are you going ENVY!?!?!
-
From the Fedex Indy hub, it will either be going direct to one of their other major hubs, but quite possibly to the mega-hub in Memphis before getting flown to Washington.
-
There is Trillian and countless others. Trillian on PC is a lot better than Trillian on the Mac. I personally thought adium looked like something from back in the 90s. I remember when in school during a quickbooks class a student asked "what if you have a Mac" the professor said "well that's just too bad. We use Windows"
-
So.. Safe to assume it will arrive tomorrow or not? It would be great if it did..
