awesome, very interested in the screen quality details, especially viewing angle, on the 17 inch models! Wanting to know if its at least a high end TN screen ala MBP

Most people just want to play with their toys rather than take pics of it and upload to the interwebz. I'd love to take pics of mine though, but I'm not getting it until 2 weeks from now...

and honestly, silence can be golden on the first day or 2 of getting the laptops... Id rather they be busy tweaking them and enjoying them, then coming on here and ranting about everything thats wrong with em haha

Yeah god forbid anyone shares criticism with other potential purchasers! Just don't tell anyone what's wrong with it so everyone can make the same uninformed purchasing decision!

So according to a post on The Verge they did not send out any review units for the new Envy's. Don't expect any professional reviews any time soon.

Mine were just placed "On vehicle for delivery". They spent a whole 3 minutes from being checked-in at the local facility to being put on a truck.

Man, Fedex sure ain't lolly-gaggin' around at all today. :p

So the whole "they all have reviews ready to go but are under NDA" theory is basically out the window...

I guess HP just really doesn't care about marketing at all. Except for Delta Skymall ads that is.

Is it just me or isn't this HP's MO? I remember when the Envy 14 came out and it was at least a month or two before a review came out from one of the major sources. Never seems like anybody has a review unit before the actual release.

Edit: Also, I seem to remember reviews coming out for the 14 with the Radiance display...even after the displays were no longer being sold.

Dude, stop trolling and go back to the apple forums. Every day all you do is post about how HP should have done this, or should have done that. And this is coming from someone that has no loyalty to HP (as it's my first purchase from them).

Guys, these Envy laptops are not breadwinners for HP. Most of us got them at what is probably not far from their overall cost with 33% coupons, and I bet the majority of orders they've received are from users here. These appeal to a very small percentage of buyers (like us) and we will buy them with or without reviews and fancy ads, based on specifications and design.

They probably sell hundreds or thousands as many consumer grade and business laptops - that is where the money is and where they will direct their marketing. And wisely so.

Personally I'm glad they aren't flooding the net with reviews on these otherwise the factory would be way behind on orders, and I'd have to wait longer to get mine!

At this point I'm just waiting for some final info from someone about the Envy 15. Then I will be gone forever. So, to all of you who have your 15's, the sooner you post the info, the sooner you can be rid of me !!!!!

P.S. I loathe everything about Macs.

Man, it says estimated delivery date is tomorrow, but I woke up this morning to see "Arrived at local FedEx facility in Miami FL" after they flew it down from Tennessee. It's still hasn't gone out for delivery though, and it's been four hours. C'mon FedEx guy, get started on your route already!

Tybert7, I too, thank you for posting this (and I'm posting it again b/c a lot of people asking for videos seemed to have missed this one). The viewing angles seem to be excellent, even shot on a phone camera!

Can you comment on whether those 2 white LED's on the left side of the bezel can be turned off? I assume those are the proximity sensors... but man, if those remain lit 24/7, that is REALLY annoying.

HP's marketing is a joke. No wonder they want to get out of the PC business - they're doing so bad at this because they have zero sale skills.

This has nothing to do, as another said, about the ENVYs being a "breadwinner". And it's ridiculous to think that their plan was "let's sell it for cost to a small number of people on a forum; forget marketing!" This is their premium, top of the line, Apple-competing product.

HP just doesn't have a clue what it's doing in this business.

To everyone whining about the IR sensors on the side of the laptop, they are not visible to the naked eye.

The same thing happens when you look a a 'wii sensor bar' - the black glossy tips on the ends show a few lights, even though you can't see them in regular use.

... As far as I know.

I'll try to get something later this evening or tomorrow. Unfortunately I have some "Real Work (tm)" assignments that I have to do right now for the next few hours so they'll have to sit in their boxes until then.

Tomorrow is a playday anyway, don't have to work, but I was invited to "fly" the T-38 jet simulator at Sheppard Air Force Base in the morning from 8:30 to 11:00AM and that comes before the laptop any day.

My Envy 17 3D was delivered and my brother and father opened it and put it on the charger for me (a lot of stuff doesn't come fully charged). When I get home from work tonight and after physical therapy I have for a sports injury, I will tell you what I think and my thoughts.

Just received my Envy 15 at work and already there are 2 issues. Significant keyboard flex on the left side and assembly defect on the track pad. It doesnt sit level so the bottom edge sticks up and is quite sharp. On the plus side the backlighting is uniform and the screen resolution is very good.

I checked my Wife's HP Envy 15 before I wrapped it for Christmas. I only checked for cosmetic flaws and did not notice any (no USB dent, yay!) but I didn't look at the track pad too closely. Will need to do another examination upon Christmas day.

I think the bottom part of it is supposed to be higher up, so the buttons are more 'click-able' but I don't think it's supposed to be sharp.. :(

Good to know. I made the mistake of not clicking 2-day shipping. Called up HP and they said nothing they could do to change it. I just don't understand their policies, why is it so diffictult to make any changes after placing an order?

    Hi all!

I received my 17 3d today - RAN home to see it and use it for 30 min before running back to work.

I have a few questions. The laptop would not turn on at first until I plugged it in - is this normal for a first time start-up?

The reason I ask is my next question - the battery compartment of the computer was not tightly closed upon receipt - it does seem to fit ok now. Can someone take a look at their 17 and see if any of the "problems" I see in the attached picture seem OK (hard drive seems set not straight and there are some wires on the left side that I have no idea what they are for) - this is GREATLY appreciated!

    Steven

Received my Envy 15 yesterday. Its thin but not as light as you'd want it to be. Sound is plenty loud and clear. Display is gorgeous not super bright though. Viewing angles are best I have seen on a laptop. Touchpad is flawless, Keyboard has no flex, backlights work great. Red line around the keyboard is not very prominent, 2 red LEDs on left side of the screen are annoying but they can be turned off. Graphics card Windows experience index is 5.9 (Samsung series 7 is 6.1)
The only negative part about this laptop is FAN NOISE, its like a blow drier on low speed. I have turned off fan always on settng in bios and forced it to use intel graphics, hopefully that fixes it.

Man, if our GPU's were to utilize the 28nm process they'd be so Sweet!

Engadget Desktop 28nm Article Reviews it Fastest Single GPU on Market!

Man... wish I could just exchange it in a few months for when the mobile version does come out, but I don't think I'll be able to return the beastly power of a core i7 processor (been with my 2ghz core 2 duo for 5 years now). I don't game heavily but it's so nice to know that you can at highest settings when you want to. If any company wants to get brilliantly rich, I propose putting upgradeable dual PCI Express 3.0 slot behind the monitor ( IPS + 3D, which announced Today LG Will be selling in February, Wahooo). I know most people would say it makes no sense because it'll be too far from the processor, but that's where Thunderbolt would make sense (because it's essentially external PCI-E). Who knows, maybe even 2 USB 3.0 or 2 DisplayPorts could handle all that bandwidth instead too. I know our DisplayPort is the newest 1.2 version which is Absolutely Stunning when you see why (Scroll down halfway to section titled DisplayPort 1.2. Plus the laptop could just use Intel Graphics and switch to external graphics as soon as it's connected to the external monitor. I wouldn't mind a little bulk to the monitor if it had that option, it's not like we're staring at the side of the monitor.
