Looks like Costco is imitating HP and playing the picture games on their website.

They show the newer look and pictures (dark umber color) but the specs are for the older model. Typical

Those have the sandy bridge cpu's, what makes them the older model?

WHO KNOWS!?!? -

The easiest way to tell the new gen is if it has USB 3 and by the graphics card models it has.
-
I posted a question before but probably didnt make myself clear enough: I ordered the older generation (old graphics card - no USB3.0 BUT with the 2nd gen processor). The specs are given below:
dv6t Quad Ed
• Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
• 2nd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2630QM (2.0 GHz, 6MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 2.9 GHz
• 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 6570 GDDR5 graphics [HDMI, VGA]
• FREE Upgrade to 6GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
• 640GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
• No Additional Office Software
• No additional security software
• 6-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery (standard) - Up to 6.0 hours of battery life +++
• 15.6" diagonal High Definition HP BrightView LED Display (1366x768)
• No TouchScreen (includes HP TrueVision Webcam)
• Blu-ray writer & SuperMulti DVD burner
• Intel 802.11b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth(R)
• Backlit Keyboard with HP SimplePass Fingerprint Reader
• HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope
The laptop is already shipping. My question is should I keep this one or go for the newer model. Are the heating issues really that bad that I should return this?
eSATA is good enough for me in place of USB 3.0 and also I'm ok with the standard webcam. If i need a HD webcam later, can always get an external one. Curious to get your answers -
The video card (6770m) alone is worth getting the newer one... You'll lose backlit keyboard though. Also, with the old model you have a chance of getting the faulty b2 chipset. Don't settle for that bull from hp.
-
Still stick with your original answer? -

I have no idea what, if any, demands your usage will place on the GPU. It's possible that you will never switch away from the Intel 3000 GPU that's built into the i7-2630qm.
Will you be using an external display?
How important is portability to you, especially in comparison to the importance of screen area and resolution?
DV7 is 1.5" wider and 1.2" deeper, 20 ounces heavier, and has a 1600x900 screen. I paid $810 for a quad earlier this week. Comes with Blu-ray player, a writer would have been $100 more.
Current DV6tqe:
14.88" (W) x 9.65" (D) x 1.21" (min H)/1.37" (max H)
5.4lb
DV7tqe:
16.38" (W) x 10.83" (D) x 1.24" (min H)/1.42" (max H)
6.7lb -
HP has done away with the UMBER color, now the dv7 Quad is available in gray steel color.

To anyone thinking about keeping their old laptops as opposed to a free trade in for the new, better ones: DON'T keep the old ones, get new ones!
These should be coming in any day now right (for people that ordered the new ones on day 1)? -

We have come to the conclusion that the webmasters are drunk. -
Is there an official thread for the dv6/dv7 QE SB version?

Deadline for return/exchange extended! I received an e-mail from HP giving May 15 as the deadline for repair/return/exchange of the SB Couger point issue computers. This seems to be a change from their previous announcement of April 30 being the deadline.
-
I'm a graphic designer, and I also use it for HD video rendering, animation and ocassional gaming (like NFS or Angry Birds). I work a lot in low light conditions, and the touchscreen is impressive when trying to show off my work. Being said, I want to take advantage of this exchange opportunity, but I don't want to give up the backlit keypad or touchscreen.
At this point, I've decided to wait to see if the Envy refresh comes out before May 15th and offers more convincing options for me to exchange, then I'll take advantage of it.
I know the HD 6770 graphics card could possibly be 50% better, but with the HD 6570, I can render an HD Video and continue to multi-task working in other memory intensive applications without noticing any lag. So, would you still reccommend that I return my laptop or just send it in to get the chipset issue fixed? Why?
Your advice is appreciated -
We have +6 weeks to see if someone at HP figures out that a $25 back-lit keyboard option on a +$1000 computer makes sense.
Or that buying a +$1600 computer (Envy 17) sucks when the only option is a 5400 rpm HDD....and a trackpad no one likes (and has been replaced on the a lesser model). -

Review of the new DV6:
HP Pavilion dv6-6013cl Review & Rating | PCMag.com -
HP sent me 2nd 15% coupon
LOL, *****I need it? -
-
It's funny how so many people, even that lame review from PCMag mention the lack of a backlit keyboard as a con. Does HP even care what its customers think? It's not like this is some expensive luxury feature that's unrealistic, it's something practical they used to offer and then got rid of...
-
The only good thing I got out of the review are the pictures.. and the battery life test (not bad). -

Has anyone watched 1080p HD encoded videos/blu rays on a 1600x resolution screen?
If so what does it look like as far as quality, etc.?
I have only viewed HD photos and videos on TRUE HD 1080p screens. -
They have 6 weeks to get it right.... -
It is clearly mentioned that this is a model made for the American Costco wholesale retailer.
Quoted from the review:

Seemed like a pretty good review even with the lower configuration and processor, I believe the remark about the "blue" cover is probably just and editorial mistake.

EDIT: Well, that's with an Nvidia GPU, so for all I know AMD GPUs can't handle scaling as well, but I'd guess it'll look great. -
Got a great deal with my dv6qe. Before I get to that, just wanted to say this is my first post and I've found this forum (and others) ridiculously helpful.
Ok, so my configuration (made on the 14th) came out to be $1420 before taxes, shipping, and coupons. Got 2day shipping and used the 325 coupon, for a 1222 total. Once I saw the 30% off coupon, called in and had them price match (-85). Then, got the shipment delayed email yesterday (and 15% coupon) and called them and got the $39 2day shipping comp'd.
Today, I went on online chat and made as-if I was thinking of cancelling due to the delay on top of such a long total wait time (and the fact that I wouldn't have the pc for my "business trip" next week). Made no mention of wanting anything but to "find out how" to cancel my order. They eventually gave me the number to resolutions. But before getting off, I mentioned i would be willing to wait the week if the 15% coupon code I got from the delay could be added to my order. Lo and behold, another $150 off!
That makes for a total of $600 off!
Sorry for the long explanation, but I'm obviously pumped to have such an awesome machine for sub $1000 w/ taxes. -
Thats a great story. How did you get the rep to do all that?
Like how'd you ask? or did the rep just offer.
Also what options did you get to bring it up to $1420?
Did you get the SSD? -
upgrading to 6770M now only $25 (as of April 4)
-
Oh, you mean on the Select Edition.
