I agree it was also a bummer for not having the backlit keyboard -it does have some upgraded features but nothing really to get real excited about not unless they price this very aggressively

Eh, I am not concerned about the GPU upgrade simply because I don't play games and, at most, I am going to play Blu-ray movies (which an Intel GMA 4500MHD would be fine with). I have a PS3 and Xbox 360 for all of my gaming needs. I think the "common consumer" would feel the same way. I would be thinking differently if I had stack of high end PC games sitting next to me but I don't. If anything, Blu-ray playback would be the most graphically demanding aspect that I complete (which isn't even handled by the GPU itself but rather a dedicated hardware acceleration decoding "chip").

According to that pdf it shows that the only display option is the 1600x900 resolution....
Also the SSD is only available in 160 GB size....
sad face....afraid I'll be waiting for the Envy then.... -
yep it fell short of expectations no 6850m or 1080p
-
depending on your needs- clevos might be a better choice
-
I wasn't expecting those things
HP's options on its current laptops are not very impressive. When I first saw them, I really didn't want to get one because I hated the idea of getting a lower resolution screen than my Mac. Either way, I'll be getting a grainy low-res screen on whatever laptop I end up getting. It sucks that 1366x768 became the standard...
But to get rid of a backlit keyboard option? That's just folly. I sure hope that's not the case... -
hmmm no 900p or 1080p screens for the DV6 huh... guess I'll either wait for a coupon/discount or wait for for another laptop. I'm happy with the 6770M video card though.
-
they do have 900p

HP's website still hasn't been updated. It looks like they are either going to wait until the middle of the day when everyone is awake or the 2/27 update was wrong.

Hm... -
Also, you were the only one expecting a 6850M. You can't just stuff any graphics card into any computer you want. There need to be sacrifices, among them weight and thickness. -
But I do agree.. 6970M or even even 6850M would be absolutely impossible in the DV laptops. All the gaming laptops with such high end cards are usually thicker, heavier, and expensive. These are not the traits of the DV lineup.
The 6770M is already beyond what I had expected, and even has GDDR5. Just wished the screen resolution wasn't so shameful. Maybe I'll swap a high res one one later. -
That dv4 looks pretty cool, except that it uses last-gen CPUs for some reason. Still, looks like an awesome pick for college students!
-
I'm a little disappointed they are using the HM65 chipset.
Would have been nice to see the HM67.

6570m card -this refresh is so-so nothing earth-shattering
-
the pricier 17 inch envy has the 6850m but at $1500?
-
I'm seeing the DV6 Quad Edition like I have now on the HP site again but not the new model. Where are you guys seeing the new one?
-
It looks like they put up last month's models. Either this is a mistake or they're not releasing the new models today. I'm hoping it's an error and the new one will be up soon.
Either way, don't buy now. Somehow, I have a feeling that they're holding off on the new models to clear stock and that the new ones may still be a few weeks away. There do seem to be a few glitches, however, so I may be wrong. -

There are so many mistakes on the HP site right now, they must be doing something.
-
-
Yeah say wait till evening. Or even past midnight. This is why I prefer Apples method of just closing the whole damn store and updating it.
-
I wonder what happens if people buy the "old" version and then the new one comes out later today? lol
-
If the specs on the PDF are accurate for the DV6 I might hold out and see if Dell offers a good coupon on the XPS 15. Maybe even see when the Envy refresh will be out since I could potentially use my $500 coupon on an Envy - might take some sweet talking though.
How does the GT540M 2gb nVidia card in the XPS compare to the ATI 6770 1GB? I see the GT 540M uses DDR3, I don't understand why Dell didn't put a DDR5 card in the XPS. Boy do these manufactors @%#$ me off. Is it so much to ask for a laptop with a 1080p display and a DDR5 video card without having to go broke to buy one?? -
Ok so I don't know bout y'all but I see the dv6 and dv7 Quad Select Edition which have the 2nd Generation SB processors....
They were there a couple of weeks ago and then they mysteriously disappeared. Now they're back. I don't know if they are truly "new" or if HP is trying to get rid of em. Plus theres no way to know if those will come with the defective SB processors....
Frustrating to say the least.... -
kornchild2002 Notebook Deity
Just wait as it looks like HP is slowly updating things. The Envy 17 3D has been updated to Sandy Bridge but not the Envy 17 or the Envy 14. The dv6 and dv7 quads they are showing off were the same exact models that HP was selling when they first upgraded to SB, they aren't the re-designs.
So it looks like they are in the process of updating their products online. I don't know why they just don't shut the online store down for a few hours to get this fixed instead of having it up and running still. -
-
We'll probably see the new products somewhere around 12 (or later depending on the timezone).

Second, this isn't the actual refresh. Haven't you noticed that they look nothiing like the designs we were shown? -
I have to say that the 6570 in my current DV6 has performed very well. Granted I haven't played on FPS games but I can run WoW and SC2 with graphics turned up all the way no problem at all.
What worries me about going down to a card with DDR3 is performance 2 - 3 years out. At least with DDR5 it should be able to keep up somewhat. -
abaddon4180 Notebook Virtuoso
Just got done chatting with 4 different HP sales reps and they all at least hinted that the refresh would occur soon. One even said that they would be listed by 4 pm EST. Take that for what it is worth.
-
The funny thing is that I'm awaiting this despite having no plans to buy one. lol. I've become addicted to tech stuff. -
Hear ya brother- gotta get my pc fix!
-
Let.s see if the refresh comes with the 6850- just waiting to pull the trigger -even with the 6770
-
I think I'll wait a few days.
We have until April 30th to return the current units....
Hell, I won't even "pay" for mine until next week (when my credit card bill is due). -

I am not really in the market for a new notebook but the dv4 looks great. I think I will order one just to test it out. Who knows? It might replace both my notebooks.
Edit:
I wonder why one of the brochures list the 6650 and last gen Core I processors for the dv4 ( link) while the other lists the 6750 and 2nd generation processors ( link)? -
-
I like how the dv7 has 2 USB 3.0 ports but the Envy 17 3D has only ONE....
And the new Envy 3D doesn't have a fingerprint reader...wow...
HP is ridiculous... -

No dv4 vid?

See my post here. -

I didn't see an option for a dual band (2.4 and 5 Ghz) wireless card for the new DV7. Did I miss it?
