But now they're on the actual website.

The core i5's still have a higher frequency than the quads and can still function with hyperthreading if you need extra 2 cores - that should be speedier than the quads unless OCed.

Also remember that an extra thread is not the same thing as a core; not even close. -

Is the dv4 supposed to be available the same time as the refreshed dv6/7?
-
Damn it, it's after 12 and still nothing! (Though interestingly enough the so-called "4th gen" Quad Edition is back up on the site).
-
website does not have the new dv6 yets-still old models showing

somebody get on the phone!

20 minutes until 4. Starting to look like those reps were lying or did not know what they were talking about.
-
Well, maybe next week. I guess for now they're trying to sell through some of last month's models.
-
No refresh yet- it is 1:00PM pst 4PM est

Ugh, such bullcrap. I've been waiting since September to get a new computer...part of me just wants to go ahead and get the Dell and forget the HP. It's not going to have a backlit keyboard anyway and that's really the only thing I've been waiting to find out...
-
abaddon4180 Notebook Virtuoso

So that means that we probably won't see them for a month or so. :/

Very lame.

What I don't understand is, if the SB design flaw is why they are not releasing these yet, why are the dv6/7qe's still available for order? They are going to update the GPU anyway so why not just take them off of the site until they do? I mean, they have to realize that almost everyone who ordered a dv6/7qe recently or orders from this point on is probably going to want a return when the refresh occurs. Seems like they are making more work for themselves.
-
The day is not over, so i'm still a little optimistic. However, it would seem that HP is very bent on trying to recoup their losses from the defective SB's.
-
I, too, am optimistic. I couldn't imagine that all those sales reps were misinformed.
-
There is also the possibility that the dealy is not intentional. They could be having problems getting the new product page up.
*Disclaimer*
Not trying to defend HP, they could just be monkeying around, just want to give a fair shake. -
The QEs were gone from the site for a while and they just came back today. It's weird...
And why did Dell get to release their SB laptops so soon after the 20th? -
Seems like Dell has made out much better with the whole Cougar Point issue than HP. They likey had far fewer machines effected because they only had one machine with a Sandybridge in it and it was an Allienware so I'm sure HP sold a ton more SB laptops than Dell did.
Now Dell gets the updated components way sooner than HP. Too bad Dell put the nVidia GT 540M with DDR3 in the XPS 15 instead of a DDR5 video card.... -

It's pretty obvious that they decided to delay the new model hoping to clear out some of the left over cases and GPUs.

Which is kind of sad. HP was a week to pull me in with something, otherwise I am going to go with a different manufacturer. It seems like Dell and Apple got the good Sandy Bridge setups early while HP was the first to receive the bad units back in January. I am not really sure what is going on but I don't like it. One would think that HP would just get rid of the old cases (or melt them down into something else) and just offer the updated models today instead of pulling this crap.

I was just over at the Dell website looking at the features of the Sandy Bridge XPS 17. Seems like a good laptop. They even offer a dual band Intel wireless card as an upgrade.
-
Never thought I would say this. The new MacBook Pro 15" specs look great.
Although the old chassis and price tag doesn't.
I just about to give up waiting on the new DV6 or DV7, it will be better than the old version, but by exactly how much will fall short of amasing as usual.
By the time it arrives, there will be better options around from other venders. I am getting the feeling when the re-designed Envy comes out(?), it will be a good one. -

I am not so sure the dv4 is going to be coming to the U.S. anymore. Two agents I chatted with were very vague when I asked that specific question. The most specific answer I got was,
-
The XPS 15 has a preliminary ship date of 3/21 so it isn't exactly "out" yet either in that sense, lol. Patience...
-
When it first showed up on their website the shipdate was somwhere between 3/10 and 3/15.
-
But you are making a good point about the number of SB laptops "in the wild" from HP. clearly, HP has a bigger mess here. -

The new DV6 and DV7 are available for order from HP direct. (scroll to the bottom and click on "quad dv6" or "quad dv7"
However, there are no 1080p displays. The dv7 has 1600x900 only and the dv6 only available with 1366x768
You can configure a dv6 with almost identical specs to the high end MBP, + 6GB RAM + BD writer and over $1k cheaper, but what's the point if limited to 1366x768 display? -

been following this thread for a while now, you guys think we'll be able to trade in our faulty dv7s for the new chipset model? im just totally not sure how to do this, first laptop i bought, first one with a faulty chipset lol
-
Just wondering, has anybody gotten any additional information from HP sales agents when the new refresh will be released? They released coupons for the dv7qte for $300 off, so I'm wondering if I should hold out for the new model or just use the coupon. They are setting a March 2 expiration for the coupons, so I'm hoping that means they are clearing stock of old models and releasing new ones soon? But anyways, from what everybody has seen of the alleged specs of the new models, do you guys think I should just take the deal and buy the dv7qte or hold out for the refreshed model?

i just hope i can get the new model by trading in my old (new) dv7 -

so you guys think that it will be possible to switch out my dv7 for the newer model, once it gets out? i like my dv7 only that it stutters when i play music, so hopefully the newer model doesn't do that.

Looks like those who are affected at this stage will just get a replacement of what they already have.
Unless you wait some more until the new model is in full swing (end of April cut off time for returns/replacements), and then hope they don't use their old stock, thus getting a replacement of what they already have.
Either way, the old chassis back in production is not looking good for those wishing for a newer model replacement.
I would think HP will have no shortages of spare current model chassis parts. -
it looks like for all those affected dv SB's - they will replace with what is showing right now and they will not upgrade your system for free to the newer models- would not make economic sense for HP to do that as the newer models would cost more and the early ones who ordered with early Sbs will get like replacements with the fixed chipset. Sorry to dampen hopes here. Best bet is to just return to get a refund - os store credit and if they would still honor the $500 coupon discount for the newer models -maybe. No sense hoping they would trade the defective SBs with a complete newer dv.
