HP PAVILION ze5600
Basically, this afternoon, while i was surfing online, the laptop froze. Couldnt move the cursor. No response to windows key, etc. After waiting a long time, I decided to straight away, switch the power switch off. But after pressing the power switch many times, still got no response. It still didnt shut down. So after waiting some time, I decided to remove the power cable, thinking that when the charging runs out, it will finally go off (like it shuts when the battery runs out). But when it finally shut down, I tried to restart it. No response whatsoever. Pressed the button many times, nothing.
Even though the AC was attached and properly connected, the status light was still off (unusual). No battery status either. Nothing. So i pressed another button on the lappy, like the "shut" button, but narmally used for checking email straightway. Anyway, after i pressed it, it started working, or soi i thought. Still even though the AC was connected, no status light. Then it shuts down when the Microsoft screens shows at start during startup.
Any advice is highly appreciated. Really need it for my living, etc. Cant afford another yet.
Cheers everyone. Please pm me if u want.

Any help will be appreciated guys.

Can you boot from the CD? If you can reach Micrsoft's logo, then you should be able to restore from the recovery CDs.

it doesnt start. I reckon its an external power problem. Because no lights. Or a few blinks and then no lights sometimes.
I dont know how this is possible. Computer running normally, suddenly no power response. Very unusual.
Please excuse my limited technical knowledge but will do my best to try and explain everything.
sometimes notebook gets to the winows loading screen then shuts down. Exactly until now, it has only done it twice and then shuts down.
I have tried many times since this afternoon. It doesnt start. Maybe because the battery ran out (which it must have earlier), but its connected to the mains. So power shouldnt be a problem. BUT the power status lights are not on. -
It starts to sound like the old HP problem with the power jack and the connection to the motherboard. Try pushing slightly the power jack and see if the charge light goes on.
Do you mean that you have been able to reach Windows loading screen only when powered from the battery? It is possible that it shut down because the battery run out (that is the power cord did not supply power at all). Older HP notebooks have this power supply problem. If this is the case, you can try repairing it (resoldering on the motherboard) or use a cable to supply power via the Expansion Port. -
same problem on some old compaqs
from your explanation I couldn't tell, have you tried booting with just the AC and no battery?
I had a similar problem, this worked, and I had to replace the battery.
sounds like the AC is the problem though, maybe you stressed the connection. If it feels loose, try holding the connector in straight while booting to make sure there is a good contact for a temporary fix. -
try flipping your circuit breaker?

I think it could be related to the motherboard, as i was surfing other forums and the web and found many sources which have similar problem to mine and had some issue related to motherboard. They didnt mention anything specific, just that HP will be charging them for a motherboard, etc.
Anyways, I have tried holding the cord, etc while switching it on, but nothing seems to be working. Tried many times since yesterday.
"Do you mean that you have been able to reach Windows loading screen only when powered from the battery? "
YES. It was the first couple of times when there might be some juice left in the battery. There was no power source light (which shows mains connection, power, etc. Not battery. But if there is no yellow/orange light, but blue lights (which show that its on) than it is getting power from battery.)
After that i have not been able to switch it on. Not even to the windows interface. No juice.
"If this is the case, you can try repairing it (resoldering on the motherboard) or use a cable to supply power via the Expansion Port."
Can u give me a stepwise method on how to do this. I will search on google. A link would be helpful as well.
Thanks for ur help. Sorry for the late replies. Just came from work. -
"from your explanation I couldn't tell, have you tried booting with just the AC and no battery?"
YES, still nothing.
" If it feels loose, try holding the connector in straight while booting to make sure there is a good contact for a temporary fix."
Nope, nothing. Tried that as well. -
Is that the chip when you open the laptop and it says RAM. I followed HP manual and it said something about flipping SDRAM if i am having battery or power problem. I opened it, and flipped this chip but still nothing happened. Now i have placed it back to its original place because i dont want to create another issue. Wasnt sure.
Notebook doesnt startup.Battery or Ac light doesnt show. No response to either power sources. Lappy just froze this afternoon. !!!
