I'm anxious to know if it is gddr3 or ddr2 as well...if it is the gddr3 9600gt, i definitely just found my new laptop

what's the deal with the tv tuner? If it has it that would really be great!
-
Are you able to use a coupon code like NB3408 on it? -
Now that it's been released..
Does it have a glossy screen?
Does the screen have LED lighting? -
Congratulations
You did not get a remote control?
How much did that cost? -
I was waiting for this notebook for weeks! Two days ago I rejoiced when I found out that Montevina was being launched yesterday, and I doubly rejoiced this morning when I found the DV5T on HP's website!
Two months ago I had ordered a Dell M1530 with 2.5 GHz, 4GB of ram, 160GB 7200 HDD, GeForce 8600M GT 256 MB, 802.11 AGN, WUSB, BlueTooth, 1400x900 LED, ExpressCard Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme, Vista Ultimate, and spare adapter for $1450! I had clicked on the "Powerful savings on select XPS laptops", selected the M1530 with the WORST instant savings ($150), juiced the machine up and then applied a 25% off XPS coupon that I found on notebookreview.com. I was so proud at negotiating that deal, as I had almost purchased the same laptop for $1900 just days before!
But damn Dell kept delaying the order for weeks and weeks on end. Finally I canceled the order. When I impulsively tried to order it again a week later, the 25% XPS coupon had vanished! Luckily, that very day I had read about the upcoming DV5T, which according to laptopmag, "is one of the fastest notebooks weve ever tested." The 1680x1050 resolution, GeForce 9600M GT, and superb price clinched the deal.
In those two weeks I scoured the web for every DV5T article I could find. I found a hilarious video review on laptopmag.com by someone who obviously didn't know how to do a video review. He was playing his first FPS, it seemed, and he was shocked that he couldn't use his gun to blow away a wooden gate, proclaiming it to be "apparently, the toughest wood on the planet." He then proceeded to walk into a very dark building and couldn't tell where he was. Funniest review ever. -
I understand that this is the dv5t topic but I just purchased the dv7t and I'm just posting my experience and info to help other users looking to purchase the new series
- I just bought the dv7t and here are my specs. The order come up to roughly over $2300 which is very steep. I should be receiving it in 2 weeks.
- I kept it 3gig because it was free and I could always buy a 2gig ddr2 for $55 and save $45.
- I moved up to the infinity display because as the sales person says "The screen reaches closer up to the edge of the laptop for a cleaner look... or something.
ALSO IMPORTANT NOTE**** users purchasing this order who also ordered the quickdock for $93(probably student discount price) will be getting an older version which does not work with the new dv series. They need to order a bit more expensive one from the sales rep... I don't know why but he states that the model placed online was an error and hasn't been updated yet as that model is used for the previous dv series (dv6000, dv9000, etc).
- The HP400 gig dock drive xb3000, I think it is the dock selection underneath the quickdock selection is for the harddrive alone not the xb3000, as HP sales rep has said that they have been sold out of xb3000.
- I didn't take the blu-ray because I already have a playstation 3 to enjoy any movies, and I'm looking for the drive price to drop in the near future.
- I also took 2yr accidental damage protection... personally because I broke my tx1000us screen 3 weeks after buying it last year... and I don't want to make the same mistake. Anyways there isn't much of a deal with this laptop, but I am really really excited.

steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
I figured it was time to register for this site, seeing how i've visited it every day for the last month or so. and u guys just happen to be breaking down what ive been waiting for, and now its finally here.
though im wondering, would it be better to wait even a little longer till hp gives us a coupon code that will work with the dv5t?
how long do you think it will be before they will?
i figured ive waited this long, if it would only take another month, than i couldt wait a little longer to save a few hundred. -
Agent (Shirley G.): "I apologize but as of the present there is no option to have the TV tuner built in your HP Pavilion dv5t series."
Me: "Do you know how soon that will be available?"
Agent (Shirley G.): "Although, I understand that it is written in the overview of the product."
Me: "I know you can't give me an exact date but a good estimate would be nice."
Agent (Shirley G.): "There is no specific timeframe stated as to its availability."
I'm pissed!
I'm also in the same boat as steveninspokane. I had to join for this thread. -
I called HP and talked to a sales rep about the lack of the tv tuner. He put me on hold for 2-3 minutes, then came back and said he spoke to one of their laptop product experts and they could sell me the tuner and remote separately for $160. I haven't ordered anything yet as I'm waiting to see if Dell refreshes their lineup, but thought I'd pass that info on.
-
I am heading to circuit city now to get a $50 tv tuner which is on sale this week. It's not much bigger than a flash drive and it will have mobility over the built in one. I'll just have it plugged into my hub so it wont take any space on the laptop.
What is everyone's opinion on 64 v 32 bit???? I have mostly heard 32 is the way to go for now because of compatibility and lack of 64 software. I don't want to buy new software anyway since I will be spending all my grad money on this laptop. -
I was looking through the manual and you can access it through a bottom panel, so it can be upgraded. But will probably need to be soldered on or something, i doubt it's as simple as plugging it in.
-
does the nvidia 9600m gt have ddr2 or ddr3 memory? it seems as it no one knows. also is that 2.8ghz processor worth it?
-
-
I think the 2.63ghz processor is worth it though. If you click the "help me decide" it will show you the disk cache which jumps from 3mb to 6mb when you go from the 2.4 to the 2.63ghz. (double check this) Apparently this is suppose to give a large speed boost with everyday tasks and file finding. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Anyone have opinions in 32 or 64 bit??? -
your right about the cache, however its a 2.53 ghz processor, not a 2.63ghz. an honest mistake. -
I called HP, after spending 15 on the phone with them, they told me that the 9600M GT is DDR3. So I ended up buying the new dv5t:
-Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.4 GHz)
-15.4" diagonal WXGA High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1280 x 800)
-2 GB Ram
-512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
-HP Imprint Finish (Mesh) + Microphone + Webcam
-Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100AGN
-No High speed 56K modem port
-160GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive from 120GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
-SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
-6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
Total before student discount:
$1274.99
After discount:
$1198.49
Estimated delivery, first week of August. Hopefully it'll be as sweet as I'm imagining it right now! -
very nice sire. first week of august for delivery? i hate the long wait times from HP. this is one thing dell does succeed at. also do we know if that card uses the new nvidia sLI?
-
I should be getting mine on like 28th or 29th
-
sealed the deal for me, gddr3 on the 9600gt is all i needed to know
-
I'm just surprised you can order with the GMA x4500 now. I checked out the HP configurator. I thought the GM chipset wasn't supposed to be released until next month? (I'm starting to sound like a broken record
)
-
I was going to get a Dell XPS M1530 for $1268 with : Intel T8300, 8600M GT, 4 GB RAM, 4 Year warranty (parts, labor, accident, and theft) and a $70 gift card for $1268.68.
Should I get the Dell or is there some way that I can get the HP with a warranty for around the same price? My budget is really $1,200... -
Sorry guys but when i chatted with the HP guy he told me it was DDR2 for the 9600gt
-
WTF is up with the lack of the "built-in" TV tuner? I just signed up for this forum just to ask this question. When will it be released?
-
-
i had a feeling the gddr3 was too good to be true =(
-
I cancelled my order. HOORAN can you lets us know once you get it and maybe some 3dmark06 scores
-
Yea definitely, but it'll be in a couple of weeks at the earliest.
-
I was looking over the processor choices and had a question. Is there any difference between the P7350 and P8400 other than the .26 Ghz? I know when you make the jump from the P8600 to the T9400 you get a larger cache size so so I was curious if there was a significant difference between the 7350 and the 8400 since they seem to be a different series (7000 to 8000).
Any other information on helping me make a processor choice would be appreciated. -
so the 9600m gt in the hp dv5t is ddr2 i guess it makes sense, i was wondering why the 3dmark 06 was not as high as i expected was just a lil under 4000. Damn it, i might have to reconsider now. How much difference is between gddr 2 vs gddr 3 anyway? is it really about a 1000 points difference in 3dmark 06 ?
-
-
I don't think there would be more than a 5 frame difference in a game though between ddr2 and gddr3 9600gt
-
Damn it all 1000 point difference is significant enough for me to reconsider. Why can't hp just give you the option to have dd3 other than ddr2. I mean I am willing to fork out more money if they give me a choice T_T
-
How do you get the student discount?
-
even if it does have ddr2, what are your other choices? doesnt the dell xps1530's 8600m gt use ddr2? does apple use ddr2 in the MBP as well?
also, will the dv5t use nvidia's hybrid SLI? -
the apple and dell use gddr3 but the 9600gt ddr2 will perform much better than the 8600gt regardless
-
^link to their Academic Purchase Program registration page. Once you've made an account and signed in, make sure to go through links that say "APP" when you're browsing for laptops in order to get the discount. -
a hp dv5t with 2.53ghz processor, win vista 64bit, 4gb ram, and a nvidia 9600m gt will blow my old one away right?
i have a hard time running BF2 sometimes, and COD4 is a joke 4 me. -
Hey guys, even though I've already placed my order. I was wondering, should I be concerned at all that the DV5T's are currently 1st generation? And my follow-up question is..., what do you guys think of buying warranty beyond the 1 year manufacturer's warranty?
-
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
personally i never buy warrantys, u figure you pay for hassle, a problem comes up they tell you that it will cost 400 USD and the warrenty doesnt cover it. warranties are a scam IMO.
and as for the guy who was wondering about 32 vs 64 bit vista, i had 32, got 64 now, only difference now is i get to use all 4 gigs of ram. havent found a compatibility problem with anthing. -
warranties in my opinion are actually worth it, I remember my old laptop where a usb hub short circuited my motherboard. Was i thankful for warranty, and i had a my good old laptop back in a week in perfect order. But like steveninspoakne states, successes with warranties do vary depends on the person you talk to over the phone and what kind of company you deal with. For most part, i think hp should provide good service.
-
I wish this version offered LED backlighting like its smaller DV4t counterpart
great specs for the price though!
-
I asked HP about availability in Canada, and was told it's not going to happen. Because HP Canada's shopping site doesn't allow for customization the dv5t isn't offered for sale.
-
To dforce66:
I don't believe that's true.
In Portugal we can't configure laptops on Hp's site but they always hit retail.
In the past few days I've seen all the Dv series on Hp's pt site.
Now they're gone???????
Isn't the ca sufix for canadian models?
If you browse support for drivers and manuals there are a few listed:
http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Nav?...client=S-A-R2544-1&h_page=hpcom&lang=pt&cc=pt
Hope it helps.
Nuno Garcês
P.S. In fact here's a direct link for one of them:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...49&lc=en&cc=pt&lang=pt&product=3761296&dlc=pt -
Very interesting! That's strange that HP customer service wouldn't mention that, they only showed the one with integrated graphics. That being said, even going through the ca suffixed models didn't show one with the 9600MGT which is too bad. Also I called Best Buy and they have no idea when new laptops might be coming in. It's so annoying that we can't just order one, its not like its any further for HP.com to ship, haha.

Anyone know yet if the screen is LED backlit?
Also, is the screen glossy? I personally hate glossy screens, don't understand why laptop makers insist on using them -
Does anyone know what the maximum type of ram the dv5t supports? The online help person said it does not support DDR3, but did not know if it supports DDR2-800, DDR2-1066, etc.
