Samydade,
You need to properly install your video card driver. Log into Windows Safe Mode with networking (hold F8 as the computer starts), then install the official video card driver from HP's support page. After that you can follow the directions at the beginning of this thread to update to a more recent version.

Alright new driver, if there's an issue, let me know I'll try to fix it. Like I said these are previews, it's very different from WHQL.
UPDATE 15: AMD Catalyst 12.2 (8.940.0 January 20) Preview
=> Build info:

hey guys, if you have problem with CCC, it's the driver itself. CCC is buggy in these previews FIY
-
Hi, wild05kid
been a while since I've seen this thread, just wanted to say thanks again for your work on this. Just tried the 12.2 preview drivers and found that you need to make one change for them to work without bsods.
In any case making the change that bfaber suggested gets these drivers working,. CCC works fine as well.Attached Files:

Ah I see, I will take note of that. And I re-uploaded the file.
-
Could you please please upload the 8.712 of windows version (not the HP one.)
I have accidentally deleted the windows 8.712 so I cannot update my driver.
(Win 7 X64 with HD4830M)
Therefore, my windows does not automatically update to 8.712 (Microsoft)
And I am currently using HP's 8.712 driver. TT.TT
Cheers. -
Hey TX7, there's no way I can extract the Windows generic drivers to upload it. But what you can do is uninstall everything to the root, run ATIMan Uninstaller + driver sweeper in Safemode. Once all that done (so it runs VGA driver), just boot into windows without internet, let everything loads then turn on internet, windows should pick up from there
-
Hi again,I have installed HP Catalyst 10.3 (8.712) and then Replace AMD Catalyst 12.2 (8.940.0 January 20) Preview modded "CH132259.inf" in C:\ATI\Support\xxxxxxxx\Packages\Drivers\Display\W76A_INF
Install via control panel>device manager>display adapters...
Right click on ATI Mobility Radeon HD4830 Series and select "update drivers'
select browse my computer for driver software
select 'let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'
select 'have disk'
select 'browse'
then browse to the location of the modded inf files (default location is
X:\ATI\Support\xxxxxx\Packages\Drivers\Display\W76A_INF
and select CH132259.inf
select the option with the black icon - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4830 Series (it says This Driver is not digitally signed!)
select 'ok'
select 'next'
and then this problem appears
-
That means windows can't find the directory that the driver says. Make sure you copy the modded inf into the correct folder

I just came here to say thanks for this work that you have been doing. Thanks a lot. Maybe you can share for us how you edit the signature?
thanks -
Actually I am going to post the guide anytime today because I'm no longer using the Envy line, stay tuned.
-
I am no longer using the Envy line so I won't be able to keep up with the drivers and mod for you all, but I have posted a guide (first page), if there's any question, feel free to post in this thread.
-
This is sad to know, but I´ll try to continue with your legacy! Thanks a lot for the updates and farewell!

Hey!
I've made all you said, but when I compared your uploaded file for 12.3, there's a little difference on this part:
On your uploaded file contains that:
[r300.Mppxy]
atipmdag.sys,atikmdag.sys
On my original .inf modified with the instructions only the header:
[r300.Mppxy]
This could make a difference? -
^ oh right, i forgot to add that in, thanks for spotting that out. you need to add that as well
-
I registered on this forum and everything to download the modified files since HP is AWFUL and the 2010 drivers could barely run Photoshop.
Anyway I was about to do all the stuff in this thread and I simply restarted in Safe Mode after I BSOD with the initial installation of the latest drivers (12.3) and simply restarted again after that and the 12.3 drivers worked without me having to do anything... -
^ meh BSOD, it works so thats great hehe. Did you install the HP 8.712 first prior to the modded one ?

Hi!
I have a similar problem with my Envy 15-1050ca and Linux.
The open source driver for ati 4830 graphics work ok but when I install the proprietary driver (Catalyst) the notebook hangs up on the start.
I try different distributions (including Ubuntu) and different Catalyst versions.
Any idea?
This is the AMD Linux Bugzilla link:
Bug 203 – ATI 4830 - Hp Envy - fglrx
Thanks -
Update 18: AMD Catalyst 12.4 WHQL
Disclaimer: I don't really know what I'm doing, but I followed his directions exactly and it worked for me.
I can't promise you any help with troubleshooting.

Wild05kid05 you are the man! I've been stuck with the outdated drivers for almost two years now! I'm at work right now but will be trying this tonight!
Very excited! -
Alright so.
Just to confirm the steps I'm supposed to take.
1. Uninstall ATI software
2. Uninstall Driver
3. Let windows update driver automatically
4. Restart
5. Download latest ATI installer
6. Extract package
7. Edit/replace the INF with the version from the forums
8. Run the ATI installer
Is this correct?
Should my driver now say it's at version 12.4? -
The driver version should be 8.961.0 -
doesn't work for me, I follow steps as above, but still get blue screen error even after disabling signign enforsment
any ideas? -
-
Hi there, to be able to use amorbis's modded driver correctly without a hiccup. You have to make sure you download the same driver package as the one amorbis uses.
So I kindly suggest whoever is going to keep this thread updated with latest modded driver, do provide the link of the package that you use, so everyone will be able to use your modded driver.
G'day. -
When the sp48427 software installs, it installs to a C:\AMD\.... folder.
When I download and extract the WHQL 12.3 package, it installs to C:\ATI\.... folder.
Does this make any difference? Do I need to install this to the original C:\AMD folder?
I am not on my Envy computer right now, but want to make sure I have the most info possible when I try this again tonight. I'm having a heck of a time getting this to install, but I know I have screwed it up on previous attempts because I clicked on the "express" install, instead of "custom" when installing the new WHQL software, so it is installing the wrong driver.
Hopefully I can get this figured out with some help from those who have done this successfully.
THANKS! -
Where the installer extracts the files to makes no difference to this process. Good luck with the install -
I figured it out....finally! Took quite a few PM's to wild05kid05, and re-reading this thread a few times, but I finally got it.
-
Not that it means much, but I re-ran the Windows Experience score thing last night, and my graphics score went from 6.7 with the original driver to a 5.8 with the new driver.
As long as it remains stable, that's what I am concerned with. Tired of the hit or miss blue screens and reboots when viewing videos. Seems to be working good, so hopefully it has fixed that issue. -
I did everything listed to install ATI Catalyst 12.3 WHQL driver,
Device manager says catalyst version is 8.951.0.0
Only strange thing was, when i unpacked the catalyst 12.3, there was no CH135750 file to replace, so i just copied it.
so that sounds ok, BUT gpu fan is spinning like crazy, temps seems to be 67C just idle (normally its around 48C)
Also I do not have catalyst, when I search for it, windows seems to find nothing.
Also HWMonitor does not find the GPU(temp) only HWINFO64 did...
So you unpack, do all the device manager stuff, when that is done,
do you have to continue install driver or does it stops after the device manager?
(I installed driver after that too, maybe thats the problem?)
I can install older drivers,
like the one ATI Catalyst 11.10 Preview 2 guided one on page 23,
but the INF edit files seems to be missing (download link down? can someone reupload?)
EDIT: uninstalled EVERYTHING, tried 12.4 from above, but once again, the CH file that has to be REPLACED IS NOT THERE
PICTURE GUIDE WOULD BE VERY HELPFULL FOR EVERYONE (edited INF,CH included)
Any solutions? -
-
Thank you! Everything works now (12.4) and gigantic framerate boost in Battlefield 3! (+10fps)
I don't know why I never updated Catalyst before. I own an 4830M envy too, so I thought probably it wouldn't work on the 2nd gen either. Anyway THANKS
EDIT: wow, i can oc to 580/1150 now (!) -
Thank you so much!!! I just follow instruction and everything work out F&^$ing perfect!!! Envy 1st gen!!!
-
I got strange problem with 12.3 drivers. In games like Counter-Strike: Source and Team Fortress 2 - very big FPS drop (like in CS:S from 125 FPS to 25 FPS). Same in Spiral Knights (which is Java game). I am installed old drivers 8.712 and it's o.k. (125 FPS in CS:S), updated to 12.3 - 25 FPS.
WTH?! =) -
btw, i cant update my driver, actualy i can(but it doesnt work).... i already tried a thousand times, and nothing works... tired of been stuck at these old driver version... when i install it(i was already with aero enabled due the HP original old driver) and it installs, updates... and the aero is gone and i get a y graphics.... someone could help, please! =D thanks in advance... regards from brasil -
I can not figure out what I am doing wrong. I don't know what I missed but i get it to install and after restart i get the code 52 thing. any suggestions? I would really appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

INF edit files seems to be missing and download link is down.
PLEASE reupload to another uploader sites. -
I tried this yesterday. I've produced a process flow that makes the whole thing simpler as I found the original instructions difficult to follow. I'm using the 12.6 catalyst driver with the 12.3INF and it's excellent. -
Thanks. -
Hi;
Look at this;
