is the 2gb version of 6700m better than 1gb version for overclocking?

I don't think so, but I think the 6770 may (I am not positive) be able to use more than the 1gb if you can pump up the memory clock. But it probably isn't worth the $50-$100 bucks or whatever they charge for the upgrade. I would have ordered mine without the 2gb if I knew what I knew now.

you have to go into the BIOS and change from dynamic switching (which is what you are on now) to manual switching

i think the hotkey is ESC to get into the BIOS when the laptop is booting but i could be wrong

it'll tell what the key is when its loading

Crysis 2 on hardcore ran at 25 fps before. after the Overclock it runs at 40 fps

If you have a 60xx model, even with F1.A, you will NOT see a BIOS menu option... ONLY with the 61xx. The 60xx series are ONLY manual.

ok is frequently switching your clock rates harmful for the graphics card?

i normally keep it at default but when gaming i increase it to 850/900.

I do this atleast 4 times everyday.

I hope i am not harming my card

Should be no problem IMO. The clock speed constantly changing based on the GPU usage. On idle it will drop to 100/150 IIRC.

Good afternoon to everyone, my name is Richard, I am a new user and I am glad to meet all of you!
I hope you can excuse my awful English speech, but I am a native speaker of Italian. I need your help!
I tried to overclock my radeon HD 6770m on my Pavilion dv7, but when I try to modify "MSI Afterburner.cfg" a window told me that I cannot modify the file because tha access to C:\ etc was denied!
What can I do to solve this problem?I am sure I logged in with Administrator account!

Ok, at 875/950 and DNA 11.8.3 i get stable performance and counter strike on the highest possible settings runs at around 50fps.
With fraps recording it goes down to 25~20.
No artifacting or any other issues.

MAX GPU temps = 75 though the average was 71.
    MAX CPU temps = 87

90c is CPU temperatures or GPU? If GPU i don't want to know what your CPU temperature is. :D

Neither Trixx nor Afterburner will let me change the voltage. They're both blank. FurMark correctly reads the voltage at 1.050V. Afterburner has "Unlock Voltage Control" ticked and Trixx has "Disable ULPS" unticked. What do?

You can change it with Trixx but need to use 11.9 driver and below.

So anyone know if the voltage will continue to stay locked for all future drivers (like 11.10-11.11)? Cause I think that means I'll be stayin on 11.9 for a while.

    Stable OC:
    Core:870
    Memory:1075
    Volt.:1053
    Temps: 80-81C (Coolsense on Performance)

Have yet to push the gpu to the point where it stops being stable. I wish I could run 3DMark, but ever since I swapped my HDD for SSD all of them fail to run with some system info errors.... :(

    What clocks/temps are people using?

SO I just ran the test, and got some entertaining results. SO with the mentioned oc of 870/1075/1.053 the max temp on futuremark went up to 85C which is higher than in game in BF3 where I saw 80-81 (a max of 82, but only for like a second every some 10min) but since this is a burn in, that's not really all that surprising. However, as I'm watching the temp slowly creep up above 80-81, I'm thinking that the laptop feels significantly cooler than it did in BF3. This not too suprising either since BF3 uses the CPU ALOT (6-7 threads....yeay for quad core) which would generate alot of extra heat (furmark seems to only care about the gpu)

Here's the entertaining part (and note this is on performance setting on coolsense); as soon as the temperature reached 85C the fan revved up and the temperature started dropping and after a min or so, it ended up at 82C (the max I had ever seen in BF3). So I guess 85C is the magic temp that coolsense waits for before going full blast on performance (or maybe it monitors the cpu temp at which time it reached some other 'key' number...but I doubt the coincidence).

So ya, max temp 82C (though it did reach 85 before the fan went full blast). Also note that the laptop is on a zalman nc1000 cooler and currently has the extended battery in (allowing more airflow...though not sure if that's actually helping since with the normal battery there could be more air hitting the laptop directly from the zalman....gonna test regular battery next, but I don't expect any large changes).

    Quick update:

Without the extended battery, the temperature pretty much immediately dropped down to 81C, at which point the the fan slowed down, after which the temps went up to 88C...and the fan still wouldn't go full throttle. So, max temp got up to 89C (stayed at 87-88C 99% of the time), but the fan wasn't at max. This strongly suggests that the fan is not controlled by the gpu temp but by either the cpu temp or the avg of the two (or some other abstract algorithm hp decided to implement). I might try the same test but with coolsense set to coolest mode.

    Quick update 2:
So as soon as I hit apply in coolsense to coolest mode, the fan went full throttle and the temps started dropping. Within about a minute it went from 88C to 83C. After sometime the temp kept fluctuating between 78-79C.

u mean u failed to overvolt from BIOS mod?
Mobile SandyBridge is very hot. :D Our GPU is not as hot as GT555M tho, else everything will get way hotter because of the shared cooling.
Go into Settings and Assign which profile to use when 2D and 3D.

It does seem to depend on the stage, but I've been playing alot of metro where the fps tends to be 24-32, but sometimes it does dip to 21 sometimes (this is in 32v32 matches on 1080p with everything on Ultra but no AA)

SO just avg some samplings from a 10min game in metro map taken every second. OCed at 865/1105/1.054 with coolsense set to performance, I got an avg of 74.5C and 27 FPS
