Hello everyone!
I am having a bit of an issue overclocking with my Dv6t. I am using the 11.9 Catalyst drivers, and whenever I overclock using MSI Afterburner my laptop seems to freeze up. So far I have tried overclocking to 850/950 and 850/925, but I still get the same result. Should I try using a different overclocking utility for 11.9 drivers? I tried overclocking a while back on 11.5 drivers and it seemed to work fine for the most part. I'd appreciate some help with this, since my framerates in Skyrim are lingering around 25 FPS with the mods I have installed.
Thanks in advance!

Could someone help me with MSI Afterburner?
I installed this program but maximum core clock i can set is "725" and clock memory "800".
How could I set 750/800? Im using 11.8 ati drivers (cant install newest drivers because bf3 crash).
EDIT
Solved, I readed the first post and now can change values.
HELP
I set Msi Afterburner to 750/850 and no changes playing BF3... FPS between 30-40 using 750/850 and 725/800
I just wanted to set the minimum fps value (30) to 33-35... -
^ What map? What setting? What resolution?
-
Hi xAcid
Playing BF3 for 1h
OC ---> 850/900
Max temp: 68ºC (im using master cooler)
- Native resolution. Medium details. AA 2X. Vsync ON.
FPS: 36-45 with oc (30-40 without)
MAP? Well, i started "Villa" and after one hour I finished the game. Fps never under 36. Fantastic.
I set the default config now, 675/800, because the other games are not demanding like this (mw3, assasin, crysis 1, fifa12, ...)
Thank you a lot. -
I prefer to turn off AA Deferred and crank up AA Post for more fps in BF3 but whatever works for you.
Default clocks is 725/800. -
Thanks you xAcid9
Default clocks is 725/800, and oced to 850/900 works fine.
Map was "Kakaroff Villa", and I played from it to the final of the game, with OCed gpu. -
does any1 have an i5 ???
any idea by how much i7 outperforms i5 in games ???
i have dv66159tx , i5 2.4 , 6gb ram , 6770m -
Perhaps it is true that some games requires more cpu than gpu, like gta4 and could be differences. -
and what about bf3 and nfs run ??
what do u have ? -
new hp drivers and bf3 updrade has really improved the gameplay , plus the over clock 850-900
i can play it on ultra now , even aa2x , but aa off makes the fps above 35 , enjoying it a lot now -

I've started max undervolting on my desktop (just got a gtx 480 so I was worried about power/heat/noise). I think I'll try that with my dv7tqe + 6770m when it gets here on or about dec 8. -
Furmark is an excellent program to run after you overclock. It lets you make sure your card won't overheat during gaming. I've owned at least 50 laptops, and none of them have ever fried themselves running Furmark. -
-
Theres no need to undervolt unless you're really aching to get max temperature under 70.
Btw, this laptop has fantastic performance with oc. Running witcher 2 with max settings minus uber sampling, all features turns on, 2x aa, 720p, steady 35 fps. This from a laptop gpu is pretty amazing. Hp really designed a good space for the 6770m to shine in. -
I updated my 60xx bios to F1B, and drivers to official 11.11 and I cannot adjust voltage in TRIXX... Was this for the driver version?
And I found long ago for 60XX that BIOS version higher than F14 leads to a lower performance in 3dmarks (about 150 lower in vantage P). But there seems no way to back my bios to F01,F13 or F14 from F1X,....
Any solution to this? -
You can't change the voltage anymore with any Catalyst over 11.9.
That's weird.. i'm getting better score with newer BIOS. -
Is that HP trying to resolve some heat issues by undervolting or something, how valid is this and any workarounds? -
1. Vanilla Witcher 2 or latest update (or at least the big update to 2.0?)?
2. By 720p do you mean actual 1280x720p or a rounding off of 1366x768? -
can afterburner control the fan speed?
-
-
Coolsense can sort of control the fan speed. If you put it on the coolest mode, the fan will always be running at at least medium speed (or something like that).

well I got my dv6tqe 2 weeks ago, got 16gb 1333 ram in it and a samsung ssd and did a mild radeon overclock to 800/900. Only wanted a bump in performance with max reliability. Here are my results:

What do you think? I'm so incredibly happy with this machine!
It's worlds better that the one it replaced - 2004 Gateway 7405gx single core AMD Athlon64 3200+ (2.0GHz) / 2gb ram / 60gb 7200rpm hitachi travelstar / Ati Mobility Radeon 64mb / 1280x800 (still works!) -
I follows the instructions on the first post but when I get to adjusting the sliders on MSI afterburner, it won't let me move the sliders past 725 Clock speed and 800 Memory clock. Did I miss a step or something?
-
you forgot to edit the word file, its on the instructions just copy and paste @tennis
I oc'd 800/900mhz, I do see the performance boost now I just purchased a cooling master because I saw that the gpu was getting up there in terms of temperature, 91 C while playing bf3, average temp was about 87 C, but I had only been playing about 20 min so I stopped since I don't want to fry this thing.
does anyone have any other suggestions I can try to keep it as cool as possible, idle temp is 56 C which almost immediately after shutting down bf3 it went way down, any help would be appreciated thanks. -
I went out and bought a cooler master cooling pad u2 from amazon, I went from having 91 temp after playing bf3 now highest temp was 81, I'm oc'd to 800/1000, I am getting 60fps in the subway under operation metro, average fps sit at 35-45.. soo smooth

850/950 is stable for me.
-
Is there much reason to keep 11.12 over 11.9 other than Application Profiles? -
hey,can anybody plz upload the screenshot showing dv6 6121tx cpu and gpu temperatures at full load i.e after playing 3-4 hours of high end gaming at performance mode of hp??!!!

thanks for that, but cpu is at which mode above coolest or performance??
-
Hey.. im new at this forum.. up to today what is the best drivers you guys recommend on using for oc and gaming?? i have seen that alot using 11.5b at the start of this forum but now its a bit old and there are new ones
thanks -
I OCed my 6770M from 725/800 (stock) to 875/1000 and got a boost from 10797 to 12204 in 3DMark6. Trying out 3DMark 11 in a while to check for increase in BF3 performances.
I haven't played BF3 on the OCed values yet so can't confirm if it crashes or flickers. What are other signs of unstability on OCing? -
Hi , I have a problem . I have HP Pavilion dv6 with Radeon 6650m (but in MSI AB it is marked as Radeon 6000 and 7000 series) and I'd like to try overclocking my GPU . I followed the steps for turning Unofficial overclocking ON and when i open the AB now , I CAN'T move those switchers changing Core and memory clock . I dont know what should i do , anyone could help ?

darxide_sorcerer Notebook Deity
try using Sapphire TRiXX.
-
@filip01
are u using the latest beta release of MSI AB? -
OK at first I was more optimistic about this sapphire trixx but when i tried overclocking it said i cannot do that as ULPS function is enabled on my card. so i disabled ULPS and rebooted the system . by now ULPS is set as disabled but when i try to overclock , the same message appears as before ... !
-
sure i was using the 2.20 beta version)
-
1. can u list your spec?
2. can u post screenshot of AB window?
3. are u on dynamic or fixed switching method? -
1.
Windows 7 64bit
AMD Turion II P560 Dual-Core Processor 2.5Ghz
4 GB RAM
AMD Radeon HD 6600 and 6700 Series
+ second graphics card which is ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series
2.how do i do that ?
3. I dont really know i tried to figure this out by changing it in BIOS but there is no such an option .. -
1. The hell is that? 3 GPUs? lol What the model of your laptop? Download and run Gpu-Z..
2. Click on MSI AB window and press Alt+Print Screen. Open Paint and paste it there.
3. Sorry i thought u're using DV6-6XXX series.. -
1. GPU-Z marked my graphics card as "radeon hd6600 and 6700 series" but in fact my graphics card is probably Radeon HD 6650M .
2. yeah .. i have no idea how to post it on this site )
3. that's what is written on the laptop so i guess it's true. still i cant find graphics card options in BIOS -
How are you guys getting such low temperatures? I'm OC the gpu at 825/875 and I reach 80 degrees C max on GPU and CPU while playing skyrim...
-
hey guys,
new to all this but I'm very intrigued to try it. I just got my dv6t-6c00 with the 2GB 7690M XT, 8GB RAM, i7 2720QM, and Intel 160GB SSD yesterday.
Do the same techniques apply to the 7690M as the 6770M for overclocking? What program is best for monitoring hardware parameters?
The only game I play is iRacing (racing simulation game) which isn't crazy intense on graphics, but if I can run the game on even higher settings I will cry (from joy).
Any help would be great. -
I use MSI Afterburner for monitoring the GPU. You need to set Fixed switching in BIOS first before you can start overclock the AMD GPU.
Check this thread on how to setup MSI Afterburner for extra gooding.
I use OpenHardwareMonitor to monitor other parameter of the hardware. HWiNFO is good too.
