finally 'Kalookakoo' realized the power of ati 6770m lol..
try to increase voltage to 1.10 mate..
i believe that would much more better than before..
i tried to ran 1.15 on my ati 5850m before though and it runs just fine..
and lastly you should try 3dmark vantage with i7 2920m :D
it should increase the score about 500-1000 maybe.. :)

I wouldn't play with voltages that much, especially for a laptop.

I did mention previously that this laptop could not handle the temperatures, there is no reason to push it further. I guarantee it, my blower is keeping the machine at least 25°C cooler.

Those suggestions have been duly noted and summarily circular filed. Here is a suggestion, cut off that head with those stupid ideas and the world will be a better place for having done so. :p

    Blow up your own laptop!

Yeah, boosting the voltage to 1.10 would give you a sweet 3dmark score, right before your laptop melted a hole in your desk.

I do when benching firearms... but that Lasko isn't very loud at all for the amount of air that it moves. ;)

This reminds me, I need to buy some headspace gauges for 7.62x54R, because there is a 91/30 in the corner begging to be played with. :D

Not sure I know anyone on these forums that have a 2920 in their DV6 - its just too excessive for a laptop like this.

And as many others have said, the cooling is not great on this laptop - you drive more voltage through the 6770 and yes you will have a melting machines. What's the fascination with benching like nutjobs anyway? If you really wanted to bench silly scores at least buy a laptop with good cooling that can handle it.

How high should I let my temperatures go in furmark? If I go 825/1000 I go into the 90s (not sure how high since I just end it if I go above 90), but if I run SC2 with 825/1000 I get a great fps boost and under 99% gpu load when the blank hits the fan, I don't go above 80...

Is there any point in clocking memory that high? Seems dangerous without a sensor to let you know that you've f'd up. Not to mention, minimal gains through clocking it that high.

Furmark probably represents the worst scenario your GPU would be put through, so I would think you could let it go up to 94-95 and be OK. If SC2 is staying below 80, that sounds pretty good. Coolsense on Coolest?

My temps usually hover around 80-82C with my overclock with coolsense set to performance mode. With coolsense set to coolest my temps hover around 73-75C and the performance loss between the two is about 2-5 fps.

Hey guys, I know you're not supposed to post the same question in multiple threads but the dv6t owners thread is not very helpful. For those that went with the 2720qm and upgraded from the stock 1333 to ddr3 1600 ram? Was there a significant increase in performance? I'm trying to decide whether the $100 is worth it, but it seems most people that upgraded went straight to the 1600 without doing any comparison. Any input would be appreciated, ideally like SC2 FPS after OC the 6770m with 1333 versus 1600 ram would be great, but i doubt anyone did that. Thanks.

you aren't going to see any noticeable improvement by upgrading ram from 1333 to 1600/1866. it is one of the least bottlenecked component of this laptop. in fact, some people have seen a decrease in performance because of the higher CL rating in the higher clocked ram modules (i believe it was CL 7 1333mhz ram vs CL 11 1866mhz kingston hyperx)

I have mine currently at 825/1000, but the GPU gets pretty toasty after 10 minutes on Furmark if I have Coolsense on Performance and my cooler isn't on. Might drop the mem clock down to 950. It is stable, though.

Edit: heat is definitely an issue here. I'm thinking I might have one atrocious paste job under the hood. Going to crack it open this weekend and put some AS5 on.

No, I mean there's probably very little real world difference between 900 memory and 1000 memory. You might see a slightly higher physics score in 3dmark, but that's about it.

    Hi guys,

I'm new to this site and to overclocking in general, so I would like to ask you for some advice on this. I've got a dv6tse with i5-2410, 6GB RAM, and the Radeon 6770M 1GB. I've overclocked it 840MHz/940MHz and ran GPUTool for about 40 minutes without any artifacts. My temps go up to 71 for GPUTool and 76 for games. However, when I play MOH or COD Black Ops, the game will freeze completely (as well as the computer) about 20 minutes into the game, forcing me to force-shutdown my computer. Is this a sign that my overclock is unstable, even though I don't get any artifacts on GPUTool? I've also gotten the blue screen which tells me the display driver has failed to restart.

If any of you guys could advise on what I should do to resolve this problem I would really appreciate it.

    Thank you so much!

Yes, that means that the overclock is unstable. There is nothing wrong, you just pushed it a bit too high. Try 825/950, I am stable at any game at that overclock. But, you have to understand that not all GPU's are made equally. Some will be able to overclock and be stable at higher clocks than others.

A good tool to test for stability in an overclock is Furmark... Run it for 30 minutes, if it hasn't crashed, you are most likely good to go. Make sure you always monitor temps though throughout the process... As a general rule of thumb, don't go over 85 degrees on the GPU. That will keep it living a long and happy life... Hopefully ;)

Only HP and specifically modified drivers can be installed.

Modified drivers can be found here.

I "specifically modified" the AMD Catalyst Mobility 11.8 WHQL files so I could install them on the dv6t w/6770M. I got them installed without a hitch. Not that it matters, for some reason CCC reports that the hardware is the 6740M, lol, whatever.

Anyway I ran 3DMark11 at stock clocks, it gave a score of P1609, while 875/1000 gave me a score of P1942. I'll play with a game later to see how the new driver runs on stock and OC.

I tried the 8.881.0.0 drivers, but they scored a good bit lower on 3DMark06 compared to the 8.850.6.0....... about 700 points lower, which is pretty significant. Anyone seeing better results with the latest 8.881.0.0 (11.8) compared to 11.5? I tried 11.6 and 11.7, but I had some screen tearing with those so I had stayed back with 11.5. What's the best driver version for you guys?

the only problem that i have with this laptop is the memory clock doesn't show at the clock that i just set.
its like when i oc'd to 850/1000, its only showing 850/270 on gpu-z software and furmark.
    is this normal guys?

edit: just installed 3dmark vantage but im getting " minimum required resolution not supported " error :(
could anyone help here please? i tried to change all the resolution without any success :(
