Nope i never changed the paste on it, to much work to take the laptop apart. Also your results will vary from mine cause not all gpu are the same. If i were you id try not to let it get above 85. If you can buy a laptop cooling pad or just put the clocks down or just run hp cool sense on coolest mode. If you do that your temps will drop 5-10C and the performance loss is not that great, at least for me.

Quick question fellas. How do you monitor your GPU temps while you are gaming? The way I have been doing it so far is to exit the game quickly (SCII) and then simply check the temperature history in Afterburner software.

I guess I just have one of the lackluster 6770m cores.

I've overclocked it all the way up to 845/950, which ran every game I could toss at it flawlessly for hours at the highest settings. However, in windows I'd encounter very random desktop 'freezes' followed by a 'the amd driver has failed unexpectedly and recovered successfully.' The only way I can alleviate these desktop 'freezes' is by dropping it down to 790/890. Tried several different driver versions as well. This is frustrating...I'm not even running any intense video applications when the desktop freezes either...it's just completely random...and annoying.

I'm on the verge of cracking this comp open and trying some AS5, just for the heck of it. Figure I have nothing to lose at this point except for a few degrees celcius at worst.

Not all 6770ms are created equal and some will overclock better than others

just be aware that overclocking doesn't really gain that much lol

LOL this is true...and I've learned to accept it. The laptop is a beast in stock form, already in my opinion.

I've been computer modding/overclocking since the days of the Pentium II's, so I guess it's just an unhealthy bug for me. If I could slap a peltier/watercooler setup on this thing I probably would lol

I wouldn't say that really, i got at least a 20% increase in performance, which i think is pretty decent considering its a laptop gpu.

A 20% increase in FPS can take a game from unplayable to playable.

it depends on what you consider "playable"

20% from 20 to 24, for example, isnt really that helpful

but in the case of a smaller overclock from one card to another, it's literally fractions of a framerate

You should only leave it on when you need it, i.e. gaming, editing, whatever you think you need it for. haha. I don't even leave the ATI on when I'm not gaming. The iGPU works just fine for everything else. haha.

You can leave it on all the time, because when it's not in use the gpu downclocks itself to 100 core/ 150 mem/ 900mV

Agreed, but on battery not gaming or not using an application that utilizes the GPU it really isn't hard to switch between the IGP and the GPU.

This lappy is sweet at most things, but even with the OC, it still makes me want to upgrade my desktop. It still beats my old 550be (unlocked to quad) and a 8800gs. I'm not sure if I should just ditch it or upgrade the processor and get a new vid card on the cheap (ish). I just don't want to have to buy another copy of windows.

ok this is quite fustrating at this point... I can't seem to get 3dmark 11 to work with my laptop. I have the latest bios set to fixed and everything that needs to be set to performance is set but every time i try and run 3dmark 11 it always uses the iGP. I don't understand this at all because a few other dv6t users have had no problem running 3dmark 11, any help guys? Thanks.

but during gaming doesn't get really hot though. ran PES 2011 for about an hour max at 64c, crysis ran 30mins capped at 84c all ran on optimized performance @ coolsense software :)

    Gentlemen,

At what point do you know that you need to increase voltage? Is there some kind of rule of thumb to use? Does 825/1000 require to increase voltage?

    Thanks very much

Still need help with this and I can't find any info on the web outside the overclocking forums. I have tried HP and AMD support and neither seems to know what they are talking about. I was hoping someone with some more hard core technical computer knowledge can help me.

I have followed the directions for overclocking minus the overclocking step itself as posted by the wittynorseman below:
•Ran the uninstall function in the CCC install file in sp53025.exe
•Ran Driver Sweeper to remove any leftover AMD files and clear the registry
    •Uninstalled .NET Framework 4
•Ran CCleaner, Auslogics Registry Cleaner & Advance System Care for further clean the registry
    •Reinstalled .NET Framework 4
    •Updated .NET Framework 4
    •Downgraded the BIOS to F.13
    •Upgraded BIOS back to F.1A
•Left the BIOS in dynamic graphics mode
•Installed CCC using the HP file sp53025.exe
•Switched the BIOS to fixed graphics mode

My best outcome is that I can run in fixed graphics mode (supposedly) and run dual monitors. I do not have resolution controls through CCC though. I have to change my resolution through Intel Media and Graphics Control Panel. I also do not have the ability to rotate my displays through the Intel settings. In the taskbar CCC I do not have the options to Extend Desktop, Disable Display, Rotate Display or Set Desktop Display Area to. When I look at the display drivers for the adapters in Device Manager I see ATI drivers for both the adapters. When I disable the Intel adapter, my screens black out and I lose both adapters.

    A couple of questions:

    1) How can Intel make/support a product that changes resolution on an AMD video card? <-forget this one it's not important.

    2) Does anyone know how to remove the Intel adapter entirely, and run the Radeon exclusively, with full capabilities including rotating display? I have $1700.00+ into this machine and I am considering getting rid of it.

Any solid tech guys out there? The help would be greatly appreciated.

950/1000 you're really pushing it. Try to lower your core and up the ram clock instead

at that clock youll need 1.055 to 1.06. Mine runs stably @ 875/1000 with 1.055v

Overvolting a midrange notebook card is probably not a great idea. 950 is just too high on the core.
