Some of us are just unlucky I guess... I would really like to exchange #2 but they only let you do it once, and I dont want to lose my credits/cashbck...
Has anyone gotten back the laptop that was sent in for repairs yet? hows the service? All mine needs is a screen replacement and I only hope they dont ruin the rest of the body since its already perfect.![]()

When I asked who do I turn to in case Bing fails to honor it and she said to call HP.
I am somewhat reluctant to believe her. However when I called back to place the order after hashing it out with the first representative, the second representative gave me a higher price. So I told her what the previous rep quoted me for and went to look for the other rep.
So since they keep track of which rep handled each case, if Bing cancels my cash back, I'm gonna call HP back and say the representative I talked to told me so and I want my money. -
I'm so conflicted about whether I should RMA mine or not. It's almost perfect but the CPU whine is quite loud. I'm worried the replacement I get could have more problems than this one and getting Bing cashback might be a hassle.
I have a couple days left to decide and don't know what to do..... sigh -
Damn, I just had a new problem pop up. I'm getting a noise from the right hinge if the laptop is moved a little bit. It sounds like something is broken in there. I've been very gentle with my laptop so far and haven't banged it or anything. Anyone else get this yet?
Here's a video--I'm just pressing lightly on the front corner of the laptop to rock it slightly while it's on a bed:

I just got mine and it seems to be in very good condition. The only thing is that the round port for the power connector has very sharp edges and is shredding the plastic on the end of the power connector. Is anyone else having this problem?
-
edit: just sent mine in for repairs. if they screw up anything, i will return it as it is still in 21day return policy. -
I think I'd rather just get a new one because I worry about them possibly damaging something else during the repair process. -
-
Well, I just did the RMA so hopefully I get lucky...
Since the price went up since I bought mine, HP is charging my credit card the difference but said they will credit it back when the exchange ships--I thought that was kind of weird.
At first the rep said something about getting me a coupon code to offset the higher price but then said she couldn't do it. -
This thread has gotten me really worried about buying one :S

received my envy 14 in 3 days after it was shipped from China(standard shipping 5-7 days). seems like i have a visible scratch on the top left corner of the alum lid. other than that, everything looks good for now.
should i call them up and ask for a partial refund ? -
My ENVY 14 came in mint condition. Everything worked out of the box, not a single imperfection in sight, but I could still find some reason to send it back if I listened to all the chatter. Don't get brainwashed. Check the machine over, make sure you got your money's worth, enjoy it, and realize the fact you'll have another computer two years form now, like clockwork. -
Had to return my 3rd envy today. This one had the same mis-aligned hinge problem as the last, and the trackpad had large, deep scratches on the left side like it scraped against the palmrest while being seated. It also had an unsealed gap under the right palmrest, big enough to slip a credit card into meaning the top and bottom panels weren't glued together.
Man, its just not my month. Original envy shipped on June 27th, a month and a half later and I have nothing to show for it. -
-
Just unboxed it right now. Canadian version.
Noticed a small hairline scratch of ~1.5cm (half inch) on the screen when it was off, but its not visible when the screen turns on.
I don't know what I should do really. Would you return it if this was your laptop?
Other than that, HP logo is aligned, no high pitched noises as of yet (still doing the initial install), no initial charge on the battery as I had to plug it in for it to turn on. -
Mine had a cluster of dead pixels, a few stuck pixels, and white spots on that otherwise gorgeous radiance LED screen. Also, my USB ports stop functioning as soon as I reach to type on the keyboard (VERY annoying esp since it's a portable device!). Otherwise, build quality was great overall (until I used it!
), with only minor damage to the battery cover grill. Of course I sent it back to HP to get these issues resolved.
Despite these problems and bothering HP support, I can't wait to get my Envy 14 back later this week! Hopefully with all issues fixed. -
I'm just curious - Did HP offer to reimburse any of you some money for all the replacement hassles?
-
I did order with 30% BCB, and that is still being honored, as well as the original $113 credit I was offered, plus they are pricematching the unit to my original price.
All in all after tax I will have a stock unit (except for 500Gig HD) for $770 -
So, I sent the unit in for repairs for the dead pixel but they returned it without doing any changes because they could not "replicate" the problem.
I am pretty sure they got lazy and packed it back up as soon as they recieved it. I will keep the laptop since the pixel is in the corner and is only dead on red hue.
Overall, HP has a great product but bad production quality coupled with a even worse technical support. Just a heads up for those of you thinking if sending it in for repairs and replacement... DONT WASTE YOUR TIME. -
Why didn't you return the notebook for a new one instead of sending it in for repairs?
-
Just got mine today. Got dent on the edges and gaps where it doesn't seem to be fitted perfectly. Also the screen is at a slight angle as one of the hinges is higher up. Very poor, you wouldn't expect these problems on any new laptop, but for a premium product they should be non-existent.

Mine is nearly perfect. A slight whine every now then but no complaints otherwise.

Third time isn't a complete charm for me. You should get it right the first time HP. You get what you pay for and it looks like HP is scraping the bottom of the slave labor barrel. The land of the not quite right.

Mine was perfect when it arrived a few weeks ago and is still perfect now.

After a couple months of following the Owner's Lounge and many trips to this poll, I finally ordered and received my Envy 14. It's in perfect shape and an amazing machine. I want to make sure I report into the poll because I am convinced that more people who have had problems with their Envy take part in the poll than those who have received perfect units (I just think that those of you who have a legitimate reason to complain are more apt to write in than those who are off happily using their new computer). Thus, I imagine the poll sampling isn't representative of the total number of people receiving it.
OK, now the glowing report. The Radiance is a great screen, worth the money. I spent the afternoon under a trellis which cast shadows over my screen, and hardly noticed. The amount of light this puts out washes out the reflectivity enough that the super-glossy screen isn't a problem.
Great sound from the headphone jacks. I'm not an audiophile, but could become one now that I can hear so much clarity to my music, true even with simple I-Phone ear buds.
Movies might as well be high def; I doubt if 1080p could be discerned as better. And with headphones on...wow.
I have an I5 450 (8 gigs ram) and it's handled all my 3d architectural models much faster than my core 2 duo Sony, with no long pauses for screen regeneration that used to frustrate me. Through it all, the temperature has stayed very cool to the touch and I've seen nothing of the heat plaguing earlier models of the Envy.
I use a mouse, so I may not ever bother getting used to the mouse pad, which I have had a few surprises with, like others.
Finally, a little reported perk from this laptop: it has a great, great keyboard. This is the best keyboard I've ever used. It's so comfortable and intuitive that I often find myself typing bursts of letters instead of individual tap tap typing.
I'm a totally happy owner. Good luck to everyone else. -
I had mine about a week and last night I went to turn it on and nothing.
I was just wondering how many owners this has happened to. I don't know if I should exchange it or return it and be done with HP. Your stories would be helpful. Thanks -
ive had mine a few weeks, its perfect. no cpu whine, no form fitting issues, no keyboard flex, no clicky trackpad (and no gaps around it), no fan cycling, no wifi probs, not even hot key light delays that some have got. no issues at all.
it stays pretty nice and cool even after gaming for a few hours (i cant specifically remember the temps iv recorded but its never been more than mildly warm to touch, and thats just over the gpu).
trackpad i dont have a problem using, i certainly dont find it 'bad' compared to many others that ive used. im a tap to click person so thats maybe why. i only ever use the buttons to right click, and if im doing lots of right clicking ill usually be using a mouse. its really nice to use though, lovely feel to the pad.
the display model in the store i got it in had some keyboard flex (id go as far as calling it pretty severe for any laptop and it worried me) and cpu whine (that i could even hear in a busy store with my ear close to it) but mine wont flex anywhere, not a budge, even if i press excessively hard and i dont get any high pitch noises, completely silent other than when the fan is going when gaming.
over the moon with the laptop, its perfect. really really nicely built. -
Okay so I just got my replacement's replacement and so far everything is good. Except for the touchpad. Is anyone else's touchpad making a noise when you tap? By noise I mean like any tapping noise.
When I tap on mine, it sounds like it's not so much as clicking but more than tapping, so to speak. It might be me cause I'm going from a dedicated touchpad to a HP combo touchpad.
Video for comparison to come. -
Yes, the poll also misses people like me who have had, and returned, 3 envy's due to quality issues but can only vote in the poll once. -
Sigh. Just got my Envy 14 back after waiting 4 weeks to get a new radiance screen (original had dead pixel clumps and stuck pixels) and new motherboard (USB and audio jacks come and go).
Of course something else is wrong. Just the HP logo, which was fine when I first got it. Also heard a loose screw, so I opened it up before powering it on in case it damages the mobo or fan. Sweatshop labor putting it together, same for fixing it.
I'm thinking of opening my display case. Anyone try that or experienced with laptops? I worked with GeekSquad way back and sometimes I opened display bezels, but those had screws... not sure where they are and I don't want to mess up mine. Oh well, I guess I'll slap on a iPod sticker over the HP logo (joking!) and suck it up for now... can't go another 4 weeks of grad school without a personal computer. -

We computer nerd perfectionist think 20% is to high of a return rate on a mass produced technology laden product.Hum let's do some real world math instead of talking about percentage points. That basically equates to 8 out of every 10 ENVYs produced being manufactured at an acceptable rate. At best, a company could hit 9 out of 10 because we know no one is coming close to 10 out of 10. That's why it's called mass production. If I told you 8 out of every 10 girls you'll date would be super hot, would you find that unacceptable? Now that deserves a

Can you imagine what would happen to a car company if they had returns on 2 out of every 10 cars sold? -
Ugh, I just got my 2nd Envy after RMAing the first and it has a major problems
At first I noticed the webcam didn't seem to be centered in it's hole and then I realized the entire screen isn't centered in the bezel. It's so bad that the top right of the screen is cut off.
There is a gouge in the metal right below the spacebar and the trackpad seems a little loose and noisy when you click it.
I returned my 1st Envy for CPU whine and this one seems a little better in that regard but I still hear some. -
If it doesn't work properly return it, but it's not like we don't open the box looking for that one reason to file the Exchange or RMA. -
I received my HP Envy 14 in the mail today and will definitely be returning it due to poor quality control. My laptop would not boot because it could not read the hard drive. BIOS would not detect the drive, and I removed it and tried it on my desktop PC which also could not read the drive (possibly not formated or blank).
After spending an overly long 70 minutes on the phone between three different customer service reps, I found out that I will have to return the entire laptop and wait for them to build me an entirely new system! This is ridiculous, because it would be much easier for everyone if they just sent me a new HD. When I asked about that option, the representative told me that was not possible because their "computer system couldn't handle it."
Although I am receiving 10% off my purchase price, I am still not satisfied with being forced to wait an additional 2+ weeks for a working system.
Thus far I am unsatisfied with everything from the computer, which shipped DOA, to the service, which forced me to spend an hour of my evening to be told that the simple solution to my problem is not possible. -
I have a mm gap in between my touchpad and the audio ports are crooked but aside from that the build quality and feel is great.
-
So I just got my Envy 14 laptop today
....AND IT'S PERFECT!!!!!!
I was reading this thread last night and it was scaring the crap out of me and I had mentally prepared myself to wait another 2 weeks if I had to RMA it, but I don't have to because it's perfect!!!!
I meticulously went over every inch of my Envy 14 looking for any scratch, drop of glue, dead pixel, basically any imperfection but haven't found any yet and I don't think I will. No CPU whine for me though the fan was louder than I expected (coming from an eee PC to Envy 14 so it's to be expected). Doesn't get too hot, Beats Audio makes me wet myself, still looking and playing around with battery life though.
Anyways, my purpose in posting this is to give at least some comfort to people waiting or looking to buy and Envy 14. Yes there are horror stories out there but they're are also happy endings. My Envy is perfect I wish the same to everyone else getting one soon in the future!!!
(I'm in the process of putting up my unboxing video and mini review on youtube and will keep you guys posted.) -
