Got it now.
Screen seems really nice.
Kinda heavy...haven't weighed it but its pretty heavy with 12 cell battery, I'll probably spend my $50 on a 6 cell.
It's pretty **** powerful. Running Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion at medium settings (thats what it autodetected to) at a good framerate. Oblivion is pretty much the most demanding game out there right now, so I'm quite impressed.
For some reason the video card shows up as having 512MB of video RAM! And the system memory is still 1 gig like it should be...so I'm not sure if this is from 1. Hypermemory 2. Mistake or 3. Actually has 512MB? No way!
Someone else said the USB ports are flimsy, I didn't notice that on mine.
I'll run some 3dMark Benchmarks later when I get to a broadband connection, what versions would you guy's like to have run on it?
Any questions anyone has?

128 is dedicated the rest is using your system's memory.
-
post us some PICS!
Mines suppose to be here Tuesday! -
The response I got from HP support regarding the 128MB Go 7400 is a bit vague, but from what I gather, this model doesn't have the TurboCache option. Hopefully someone can verify this.
-
Just got my laptop. I'll post some pics soon.
HP, in their infinite wisdom, decided to give me...a 12-cell battery in addition to the 6-cell (I had only ordered an additional 6-cell)!!I rule.
-
still waiting for some pics here!
-
yeah, pics. even some review-type impressions would be cool. but really, pics. and someone try and do 'em sexy-like. like, try to make it look like a Proportable Asus....I only ordered mine like 10 days ago, so i should be getting it sometime in Q3.
-
I agree, I have been waiting on some impressions. Build quality, portability, viewing angles, keyboard quality etc etc
-
Ok then, here are some pics, nothing stellar but you should get the idea. I'll take some more later on to show the difference in the 12-cell and 6-cell batteries, and I have a Dell Inspiron 2200 with a typical 4:3, 14.1", matte screen I can compare it to later...
Front view, it seems very thin for the type of notebook it is, so I'm happy with that part of it...
Right side with the dual-layer DVD drive, and the remote in the front-most slot, power cords plugs in here as well...
Left side, where the media reader is and all the other ports. No ports in the back, they're all here...
Open shot. The screen looks weird here but rest assured it does not actually look like that. The lighting in my house is somewhat extreme and it made my camera do weird things...
One more of the keyboard...
I like it a lot so far. The keyboard is much different than my desktop, and it'll probably take a while to get used to them. The keys have a nice, quality feel to them - more so than the Dell 2200 I have to compare them to. I like the touchpad as well, and the keys on it seem good.
Speakers are very nice sounding, but not horribly loud when watching DVDs. Maybe that's a feature of Windows Media Player, because they seem much louder for music.
Screen is very nice. Yes, there is some glare, I wouldn't recommend using this if your sitting with your back to a car with its headlights on, but otherwise the glare shouldn't be a problem. DVDs look great on this thing.
Size is a bit more than I imagined, but not much bigger than the Dell 2200 I have to compare it against. Mostly, just a bit wider. But it is much thinner than I thought it would be. Portability would depend on the person, I guess. But it's not too bad to carry around in the case when I'm also wearing my backpack, so alone it should be really good.
Seems to be fairly well built. I don't notice any creaks when I pick it up from one side, the keyboard feels nice and rigid, and the screen doesn't shake too much when I'm typing.
I'll post some more pictures later on and see if I can actually get a weight for the thing, as well as battery life. -
what backpack did u get
-
I picked up the silver messenger bag from HP's site for the laptop. Nicely padded and fits the laptop like a glove.
-
giddyup astro, thanks.
-
pics of the bag?

Don't have any with me. I'll take a bunch more pics tonight when I get home.

I received my dv5000t yesterday 3/23. I am trying to reformat the HD and install a clean install of windows xp without all that HP junk. I boot up from the windows xp cd, then it goes to the blue setup screen, not bsod/error. At the very bottom it says "press f6 to load a 3rd party scsi or raid driver...". I was informed, since I have a SATA hd in my laptop. I am going to need to purchase a external floppy drive, load the SATA RAID drivers onto a floppy, then press f6 and load my sata raid drivers from there. If i do not do this, windows setup will not detect my SATA HD, unless i disable SATA in bios. What I need to know is, what kind of motherboard is in the dv5000t? where can i get the sata raid controller driver for that motherboard? Can anyone please help. I've tried hitachi tech support and HP tech support, they do not fully understand the difference between a SATA HD DRIVER from a SATA RAID DRIVER.
Thanks,
Larry -
bootleg every1 seems to be at a standstill right now trying to figure this out.. my dv5000t is coming next week. so once i get it I can help tackle the problem.. u dont need to buy a floppy. we should be able to make a xp pro sp2 install cd with all the right drivers on it
-
ps i hope u made restore disks to use for the time being.
-
Does anyone know if the dv5000z has a SATA HD?
Also, to all who have BrightView-- is it straining to your eyes? I'm debating whether or not to get that or Matte... I don't watch movies or play games, so maybe Matte is better. -
z5sharp, if you go in the sun or have sunlight glares where you will be using it get the matte.
brightview can glate more.. my last 2 laptops had brightview and it was getting annoying. so im trying matte this time -
For the SATA problem...
Just go into the bios and turn off SATA, then you will be able to use any boot disc you want without the SATA drivers. -
spyder so your not using SATA? thats gonna slow laptop down.. you guys need to use Nlite to make a new windows xp install cd to load the sata drivers. your not doing it this right if u just disable sata and then install windows your looosing a ton of performace
-
No...you just turn off SATA when you need it turned off, so you don't have to worry about trying to find the drivers.
Then when you get everything in order you turn it back on. -
i think its better 2 just installed the drivers w/ nlite on a xp install cd this way u dont have to screw around
-
eagerly waiting a review of this laptop.
-
^^I'm still going to try and post some additional pictures. I'd be willing to do a 3DMark05 and a Super Pi if someone can clue me in as to how. I think I'll leave a full review to the professionals.
-
astro, you're a professional in my book. go ahead, review this sucker.
-

I'm desperate to find a good review, pics, personal opinions from an average user.
I hope you'll reconsider. -

Tons of PICS!! -
Well i just got mine...
dv5000t 2.0GHZ 2GB of Ram whatever Speed HP puts in (don't care it's work LT not my gaming Box) Lightscribe DL DVD RW 100GB HD 5400rpm, the Remote media control, 15.4 WXGA 12 Cell Battery it's very nice... i order every option..
came with XP HOME which will not work... and in my feild the factory load blows. Also have Volume Licensing MS stuff and reload. So here i am with my Corporate MS XP PRO and i have used nlite to create a CD with the SATA drives and the OS is solid. here is my delemia... the Drivers on the HP site half do not load and the other half of the laptops features there are no drivers at all i.e. BT, Modem, Sound just won't load... I have built a million images and a million boxes but this one is being a to say it nicely a ****per... so any one else WACK their box completely from stratch and load? I know this is not the CORPORATE line... but it has a ton of feature the corporate ones don't offer.
I need to know all the devices and where to get drivers for them... HP doesn't have them and the ones they do have 50% of them fail to load.
Last resort here is to Factory reload and find the drivers on the IMAGE and dump the entire thing to a new image using Nlite... it's my last attempt.... I do not want to use the factory image nor for Corporate licensing is that good... I need to use my Volume code.. and Volume media... not sure if any one here knows about that...
thanks for reading my ramblings...
P.S. this BLOWS away my Sager 4750 (AMD DTR 3500+ 1GB Ram 7200 rpm 60Gb drive. 17" WSXGA) This HP is smoking fast and ligh to boot. -
Knight...
All the drivers you need are found preloaded under the C:\SWSETUP directory. This has drivers for video, wireless, network, audio, chipset, modem, etc. So you might have to restore to factory to get to them. (You can not get to them from the recovery DVD's...kinda annoying)
mhx posted a link for some of the drivers here:
http://mhx.oplnk.net/hp_dv5000t/drivers/HP_DV5000t Drivers.rar
Cheers. -
Yes the SATA driver issue was annoying during reinstall
don't disable sata or use nlite
just find the HDD folder under the drivers section of your C:\SWSETUP folder, inside there is a utility to create a driver disk with the SATA drivers.
Then start the install of XP and hit F6 when it prompts you down the bottom of the setup screen, then hit S when it asks for the manufacturer disk, choose the "mobile" SATA driver and boom you are good to go!
If someone has already deleted this partition let me know I would be happy to email the files to you as I hate how HP does not provide you with this stuff in the first place?
Picked up a dv5000t
