Very nice. I don't know about everyone else but I like the wave imprint finish better( the one on the dv6000, ect.). But I'm starting to wish I waited a year and bought a dv6500t
. Mostly because of the graphics card which from what I hear performs at the level of the 7600. Plus PC5300 1GB RAM sticks have gone down a lot for what I payed 200 for (which was cheap, 2x1GB FYI) I would have paid 100 or less, OK $85 to be exact, today
.
-
nice pics...thx for sharing! can't wait to get my hands on mine...
-
I take it you got the 8400? What's the Windows score? And have you tried any games yet?
-
Did it come with the anytime upgrade DVD?
-
Yep this has the 8400M. I'm a n00b so tell me how to find the Windows score and I'll be glad to do it. I won't be able to post it until tomorrow, though, because I have plans tonight.
Yes -
Just right click on the "Computer" icon, click "Properties", and under "System" there should be a "Rating:" area. If it's not yet rated you just click the words next to that. Then after you do that click on "Windows Experience Index" (right next to the rating it churns out) and it gives a subcore for each section.
-
Ok, I have edited my original post with the Windows Experience Index. Are these numbers good?
-
What's the difference between Graphics and Gaming Graphics?
-
well, 3,1 it is not a very good score, 7400 on mine dv6000t scored 3.3, so that is very strange...
-
Graphics, as the Windows Experience Index defines it, is "Desktop Performance for Windows Aero," and Gaming Graphics are "3D business and gaming graphics performance."
No clue why the "Graphics" rating is low... that's weird. Normally it's a point higher than the gaming graphics. Still, the gaming graphics are rated fairly well. Wonder if it's because of DX10?
Something's wrong with that score, though. I would say it's actually a 4.3, because that graphics rating doesn't make sense. -
Are the rest of my scores looking good? Could the bloatware be the reason for this low number?
-
Can you please post a pictures of the ports, is there an HDMI port?
-
-
Your scores look fine, but I don't know what's up with the "Graphics" number. I guess it doesn't matter as long as you get good performance with Aero and DVDs and such, though.
Bloatware's not the reason, but no clue what it could be. Maybe because it shares some memory. -
At the very right of the first ports photo, is that the memory card reader?
-
The more I look the more I want
Any chance of you removing the plastic film from the top and giving us a look at the radiance finish?
Oh, and the low graphics scores are most likely caused by bad drivers, it might be a little while until a good driver come out that shows off the true power of the news graphics, hell I'm still looking for a good graphics driver for my 7400. -
i was just wondering..the tv tuner expresscard, would that only be ntsc, so if my friend orders the dv2500t with the tuner, would he be able to use it in asia?
EDIT: sorry...maybe i should post this in the prospective owners lounge forum... -
I'm not sure. It says SD MS/Pro MMC XD on it
If this isn't the memory card reader then it's on the corner of the right side, as shown in the third port picture.
Sorry I need to keep the film on because I'll be transporting the laptop in 2 weeks when I leave for college and would like to protect it.
Even if it's a bad driver, do you think it should be that low? Are there any better drivers out right now? -
Well, drivers have a huge impact on graphics performance and at the same time some applications can be kind of picky about the driver. For example, I installed the 165.01 driver from tweaksrus.com and it doubled my computer's performance in FSX while improving image quality, but FSX just didn't "like" the driver and caused BSoDs even while every other application I used was fine with it.
But it could be a while before a good driver comes out since the 8400 is a new card, you just have to keep checking laptopvideo2go.com and tweaksrus.com for drivers. -
Thank you very much for the port pics, I am glad now, I was a little bit scared that mine will come without the HDMI port.
-
Just turned my dv6500t on for the first time...and also got a 3.1 windows experience index...hmm
-
I really wouldn't worry about what the WEI says. They're at least 4.1 laptops, but the drivers or something is hampering them somehow. The rating is based off of the lowest subscore, which is the "Graphics" rating. But that's rated over a full point lower than the "Gaming Graphics," which really doesn't make sense given that it only takes into account standard graphical features like being able to run Aero. If you can run Aero fine (I'm assuming you guys can, correct?), I wouldn't worry about what the rating says. The next lowest rating was a 4.3 or something, so I would personally consider that to be the WEI rating (or at least what it will be with better drivers).
Just my 2 cents. -
lol, my integrated X3100 on my Sony Vaio FZ got a 3.5 in graphics
-
The WEI has a range from 1 to 5.9. I have no idea why. Also, I have heard that only the blazing fast/super expensive computers reach over 5.5. I have yet to here of a laptop get anything over a 5
-
Yeah, the WEI is a weird score. Here's mine which has the integrated graphics, I got 3.4

you shouldnt base your performance on the windows experience thingy. i doubt it will determine how good your graphics card can perform in even close to games environment. it probably scores it via video memory size and 2D performance which is relatively standard these days.
-
Does anyone have any benchmarks with counter strike source with the new GPU?
-
I got my DV6500T and I'm using it right now! I had to uninstall some bloatware and now in the process of installing Battlefield 2 to check out the graphics.
-
screenshots with fps and settings please! I'm going to do the same when I get my notebook for the 8600m gs
-
Will you tell me how high of the graphics u can go on battlefield 2. Like how high you can set them with playable gameplay.
Thanks -
You're pretty much on. The Windows Experience Index isn't a very good benchmark, it just gives you an idea of where you're at. It's definitely flawed, however, and mainly just takes into account the technology and raw numbers behind certain components -- it's not an actual benchmark, per se.
As everyone else has been saying, please post FPS rates from Fraps, timedemos, etc. if you guys get a chance
-
I played at 1024x768, which is the maximum setting for resolution and played on Medium setting for everything. No lag and graphics look great. I haven't tried it on High yet, so I can't say anything about that.
-
Can someone make a list of all of the bloatware files on the dv6500t that can be deleted? I'd like to remove all of the bloatware but don't want to accidentally remove a file that I need.
-
I guess no one likes the bloatware on the new HP's, me as well, so what I am doing is just removing the HDD that comes with it and installing a new one that I have and that is it, install XP Pro and Vista Ultimate, and that is it.
And in case that someting goes wrong with it in time you can alweys put the original one and shipped back... -
Guys there is a thread on how to use the anytime upgrade dvd to do a clean install of Vista on the new HP machines. You need to backup several folders from your existing installation to grab the drivers and pre-activated certificates to avoid having to re-activate it later. But it should work well for your "clean install" needs. I've been using the build that the laptop shipped with with a bunch of stuff uninstalled but I can tell you it still takes a long time to boot up. I may just have to bite the bullet and do the clean install.
-
I'm not sure if a clean install is possible that way anymore. The "OEMCert" file seems to be missing on the newest dv2500t, dv6500t, and dv9500t shipments.
-
Yeah, unfortunately the OEMCert folder is missing. I'm just hoping a modified guide will be released because I want to reinstall Windows Vista on this new DV6500T.
-
If the OEMCert folder is missing, it just means you will need to activate your OS with the product key underneath your laptop (which may require a call to Microsoft). It doesnt mean you cant do the clean install. Hopefully someone will figure out where the new certificate is...
-
Does anyone know if the OEMCert folder is located now in the new laptops?
-
It's not. I deleted a bunch of the bloatware on my dv6500t and it's running really fast now. I'm not going to reformat.
-
how many average fps you get in BF 2 medium and high setting?
-
I have just finished doing my clean install. it shouldn't have taken me this long and i'll tell you why....
-If you don't mind calling Big Brother (Microsoft) to reactivate then GO FOR IT.
-Just use the Upgrade cd that came with your Lappy.
-All new HP notebooks no longer have the Oemcert directory.
-Before you begin, just get the latest drivers from hp (store the drivers on cd or sd card) then fire away..
- Also, before you begin, you may want to go to disk management and delete the restore partition. this is only my opinion if you want all your disk space.
- ****** At installation, reinstall the OS Version that you own (basic, premium, ect) that came with the machine******
- DO NOT KEY IN THE WINDOWS PRODUCT KEY WHEN ASKED (if you do so, your just wasting your time)
- install intell drivers, then nvidia, ect....
- Call Redmond and say hey to bill for me.
- Peace. -
drivers for dv6500t? that's interesting...from hp website...hm...where???
-
Did you just wipe your hard drive clean and then inserted the anytime upgrade DVD ?
-
These are the drivers that will work for a Vista Install from HP (apparently their site is not very helpful)
Vista drivers
And these little puppies from my boy down the street will work for XP
XP drivers
you'll have to look through the text to find in within the XP install manual -
will someone make a list of all the bloatware that you can uninstall without messing things up?
also, anyone here play counter-strike? what kind of fps are you getting with the 8400 card?? -
jlum I'm going to install XP and ONLY Steam/drivers and benchmark (T7300, 2GB, 8400M) on CSS. I hope to play only that game on my laptop (sorry I'm one of those hardcore dedicated gamers). I'll post that info ASAP.
Thanks for that "Triple Play XP" guide whoever posted it.
-
let us know if you think it's worth going back to XP when you get there. I'm debating the same thing but i figure i wait and get consensus from everyone else before i make the jump.
-
couple questions.. I'm still worried that these computers will have that high pitched whine.
Also, does anyone play WoW on these? if so, how does it run?
