have been away for a while and I noticed that MediaSmart software now have a thread of its own. I have the following questions and I really appreciate it if someone can enlighten me :

    - MediaSmart Live TV does not appear in SmartMenu (The menu that appears when I press the smartmenu button on my hdx18). All other mediasmart software are there in the menu but not live tv and I am forced to run it from start menu everytime I need it. Am I missing something here?

    - What happened to MediaSmart Internet TV? It is not in the list anymore. Is it replaced by some other apps?

    Thanks

Can someone explain what "HP Software Framework" actually is and what does it do?

Screenshots would be nice also, thanks.

This thread says it is for numerous HP models including the HDX-16 models. However when reading the release notes for the vast majority of the updates the HDX series is not listed. Is HP not actively supporting the HDX series anymore? Makes me wonder why the HDX seem to be the only model excluded from the updates.

Thanks Samuel888 and Z3tor for these updates. Now on the first post.

    11/27/2010
    • Updated HP MediaSmart DVD to version 4.1.4328.
    • Updated HP MediaSmart Video to version 4.1.4322 (4.1 C3).
    • Updated HP Advisor to version 3.4.12850.3526.

That's unusual - what type of error/problems are you getting? I don't think you will have to worry about this update a whole lot since this revision of MediaSmart DVD had the same version as the previous release...

Yup, that's the one I was referring to - MediaSmart DVD? :D Seems that the most recent MediaSmart updates have the same version number as the releases just before them, with HP designating the new updates as really minor releases. In fact, it's probably refusing to update because the vendor version number is the same!

Just noticed that, reverted back to the release just before it (same vendor version, 4.1 C2).

Hello Justin can you post the link to a previous edition of HP Support Assistant? I now receive errors and my HP Support Assistant is totally useless, see my support request thread here: HP Support Assistant Upgraded and now don't work - HP Support Forum

I uninstalled it and tried it numerous times, for some reason the error shows up

What version of the HP Support Assistant are you looking for? The version on the first post is the same version that is also on the HP driver downloads page for your model.

If all else fails, you may want to remove HP Support Assistant for the time being. The utility is not required for proper notebook operation, and it may be better to not have it at all than to experience constant problems with having it installed.

Justin i'm talking about the previous version of the software as in the previous download link you had for the software, i know what you have is the current version i'm asking for the edition before the current one as that one worked for my computer. I can't rollback software like driver so I looking all over the web for the version before the current edition. The reason why it is critical is because I don't memorize or keep track in my head my versions of BIOS or HP Support Framework or UEFI or Hard Drive versions, its great to have something that does this for me. Additionally if something doesn't work I don't like to dismiss it as "oh its just HP not working" when in fact it works for a majority of users, meaning something is wrong with my laptop or i'm missing something..

I believe the previous edition was like 4.0.0.0 something the current version is 5.0.0.0 something, so if you have the link for the previous edition let me know... forgive me if i'm being vague or unclear

It's been a little while since I posted an update in this thread - I hope everyone here had a wonderful New Year's!

Since HP is announcing new notebooks based on the Intel Sandy Bridge platform, I have now updated the Supported Notebooks list with some new models. This includes the dv6-4000 (dv6 Gen 4), dv7-5000 (dv7 Gen 5), and the Envy 17-2000 (Envy 17 Gen 2). Also, HP has added a few mysterious models which I've tentatively added: dv6-6000 (Gen 5/6?) and dv7-6000 (Gen 6). More exist, but I'm not adding them in just yet. :)

You also might find that the first post looks rather different. :D

    01/02/2010
    • Updated the thread's styling.
    • Added new notebook models to the Supported Notebooks lists.

I did a clean install on my new dv6t QE and installed all the software that I thought I would use.

    However I have lost
    1. On Screen Display for volume up and down, mute, brightness up and down etc.
    2. The function to turn on and off the touch pad on the top left with a double click.
    3. I'm also assuming HP has power management software. I would like to give that a try.

Many people have experienced those problems and the answers/solutions have been repeatedly discussed. Basically you have to install the right HP drivers to re-enable the lost functionality. Don't recall what they are atm but you should be able to find the answers by using the search function.

I have two solutions but I'm hesitant to release the info again since I occasionally have problems with wifi going on or off sporatically and I haven 't nailed down the problem.
It may not have anything to do with my computer.. it could be all related to my isp provider for all I know.

But at any rate, suffice to say HP has neglected to include all the necessary drivers to run the volume and bass controls unless you first have the OEM software installed... it other words, its not standalone.

At present I have full functionality on everything but bass/tone... that acts erratically if enabled.

If you want to try at your own risk I can give you a fix to play with.. but I've already posted it on this thread before a couple of times.

I wonder if it's possible to install HP Cloud Drive on the DV8 which I noticed was not listed in the list of supported models; and if so, whether it would work properly? And who provides the online storage space, or does it work with 3rd party storage providers? Just kind of curious about this app I guess.

I think it will install on dv8 too (extract the softpaq if it fails to install). I launched the installer just to see what this software is about, but did not complete it. HP installer just launches ZumoDrive installer, so Cloud Drive is just a HP branded ZumoDrive application and ZumoDrive is the storage provider. I'm not sure what amount of storage you get with HP Cloud Drive, but with ZumoDrive you can get 2GB of storage space for free. 1GB when you start using the software + 1GB after completing the training "Dojo", which only takes about 15 minutes to complete. After that, the amount of storage you get depends on how much you're willing to pay per month: $2.99 for 10GB, $6.99 for 25GB, $9.99 for 50GB and up to a maximum of 500GB for $79.99.

I see. Thanks for all that info. I think MS is giving quite a bit of storage (25 GB iirc) for free with their Office Live "Windows Live Sky Drive" account. I have it but haven't really played around with it yet.

Microsoft Sky Drive would be perfect if you could get it to show as a network drive in Windows, just like HP Cloud Drive does.

    1. HP mediasmart smartmenu should get your volume and mute OSD back. I have never had brightness OSD with any of my HP laptops.
    2. I have a hardware button to turn off my touchpad. It has always just worked. I don't know if that is tied to the HP Synaptics Touchpad driver or not.
    3. There is some sort of HP power management software, but I dont think it would provide the features that you are thinking of. I think HP just expects you to use the controls provided by windows.
