TouchSmart utilities are only for touch-screen notebooks, Spyrus.
Are you trying this on a touch-screen dv6 notebook? If so, try uninstalling the older version of TouchSmart Webcam first before installing the newest version. -

Nice, I was just looking for a refresh on this. I wonder if HP fixed the overly high cpu usage and overly slow fade-away that previous versions had in Win7-64
-
With HP OSD Utility, I can finally get completely rid of HP MediaSmart
-
-
HP OSD Utility doesn't require any MediaSmart software to operate. Fullscreen mode gets no longer disabled while changing or muting volume, although the volume level indicator is not displayed.

Awesome. Now if it only had support for the Envy 14.

Just thought I would share a recent experience here with my dv6tqe-6000 series and HP's SimplePass 2011 software:
My system came shipped with version 5.0 and it is also the same version that is listed on HP's website in the driver download section for my notebook. Within the software, I elected to purchase the add-on from Authentec that allows you to place files and folders, selected, into a specially encrypted folder. The add-on is called "Keepsafe". It was twenty dollars USD so I thought, why not. At any rate, after installing the add-on, I found that I could not access the KeepSafe folder. The error of which, I included in the attachment below.
Just for yuks and giggles, I decided to check the version of SimplePass 2011 supplied for the new dv6tqe-6100 model. That version is 5.1 and seems to have provided the fix I needed in order for KeepSafe to work as it should. You can download HP SimplePass 2011 v5.1 here:

Hope this helps someone.Attached Files:

You can keep your HP DV8's and many other models software up to date by subscribing to two threads on this site that are regularly updated with the latest available updates.
For drivers: [Drivers] HP dv6-2XXX / dv7-3XXX / dv8 / HDX16 / HDX18 (INTEL)
For other HP software: http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...popular-hp-notebook-software-compilation.html
By keeping up with those threads, (not just the first page which is sometimes slow to be updated, but also the recent postings which usually contain the latest available updates), I already had what I believe is the latest version of SimplePass installed (5.1.0.175).
Imo, while the new version of SimplePass is an improvement over previous versions, it is still very crude and in need of many user interface improvements. But at least it now works with FF 4. I'm hoping that it will be further improved soon in future updates. -
Well, the dv6-2xxx updates the fastest and the most often out of all the driver threads since the mod own the model. But he have to spend the time to cross reference to be sure it works. It would certainly help him alot if you advertise his Driver threads and provide user feedback about which driver that works for their model.
It would certainly speed things up for him.(Plus finals is over for him now, I don't know if he has more club duties to finish up, so let him rest up a bit. He certainly well deserved it.)
Remember, to advertise the NBR HP Driver are newer version than posted on the actual HP download site. -

Oh, thanks!
But unfortunately it won't install on my system... It only displays a message box saying "HP Recovery Manager - This softpaq will not be installed because HP Recovery Manager cannot be found in your system." -
Strange, same thing happens to me too. I have Recovery Manger installed, although it's not showing on list of installed programs.
-
I would wonder where it is exactly that the installer is checking to see if a previous version exsists? Registry, Program Files (x86) folder?..
-
Now had the chance to change the first post. Not too many updates to see here currently...
06/25/2011
- Added new notebook models to HP MediaSmart.
- Updated HP Software Framework to version 4.1.6.1.
Z3tor found this HP Software Framework update some time ago. -
07/14/2011
- Updated HP MediaSmart DVD to version 4.2.5122 for Windows 7.
- Removed HP Wireless Assistant.
- Added HP Connection Manager version 4.1.22.1.
The HP Wireless Assistant has not been updated for a while, and it looks like the HP Connection Manager has replaced it. As a result, I recommend using this from now on. -
-
The service is listed as the HP Connection Manager 4 service. Maybe you can try initializing setup with admin privileges? Also, you can install the HP Software Framework separately before installing the Connection Manager (although it is included). Restarting might also even help after installation. -
I always do the install by extracting the Softpaq and clicking on setup to start the setup process and did so in this case. So that wasn't the problem. I may try your other suggestions eventually but right now I must deal with a bunch of other matters.
-
Prerequisites
- HP Wireless Assistant must be installed.
- HP Multi-WWAN Driver Installer must be installed before installing this SoftPaq. (Look for the HP Multi-WWAN Driver Installer SoftPaq on the HP website.)
- Power to the WWAN must be ON (for HP System Software Manager).
EDIT:
I tried it without uninstalling Wireless Assistant, and it's like a joke, it uses 73Mb. of RAM and Wireless Assistant still working (it "only" uses 21Mb.) -
07/25/2011
- Updated HP MediaSmart Webcam to version 4.2.3303 (4.2 C1) for Windows 7.
-
Some updates available for this thread.
- Lightscribe 1.18.24.1
- HP Software Framework 4.1.8.1
