It appears it is. In device manager for the hybrid drive, on the details tab under "power data" I see S0-S5 listed..

What about under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers in the device manager. If its AHCI it will say so in the device under the IDE/ATAPI header. I remember it was using standard IDE driver rather than "Intel Chipset SATA AHCI Controler".

OK, I sooooo shouldn't do this.
I've known this information for quite some time now, I just cant get anywhere with this issue, you haven't either.
I'm dropping the ball on this matter.
One of the guys that's responsible for the problems with the 3D version,,,,,,
I know his name, I know his work location and the phone number.
He's a senior HP employee, with Bios programing certification, C, C#, C++ as well as others, 9 in total.
His official job is: Manager, Systems Software Engineering, Global Quality Control, Research And Development.
Hes been doing the job for 24 years.
He is a graduate of Texas A&M University.
He is a member of the Texas A&M Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering Industrial Affiliates.
He works at Hewlett Packard Co, 11445 Compaq Center West Dr. Houston TX. 77070

    You get the idea,
Lazy, old, fat and sits behind a big desk, delegating tasks to his minions, with a great big pension that you paid for, and you got a broken product.

    His name is {content removed}.
His phone number at HP is {content removed}.

You can find his home number by doing some creative Googleing, its there, just gotta look for it.
I would highly suggest that you use it if he fails to return calls or blows you off.

No posting of personal information, phone numbers etc,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Sorry, it was an Envy 14 that they had success with.
The Envy 17-3 000 was a SEMI brick, it was recovered.
There is a post for a bios mod for the Envy 17-3 200, it hasn't happened as of yet.
But you can call the contact at HP that I posted and ask him to do a bios mod as well, you would have to PM me for that information.

Leshcat updated his drivers, there is another HP fix included.

    Minor Changelog:

    - Wake up Back light issues on newest Intel driver should now be fixed for most ( BUT NOT ALL) models.
    - Updates in menu: “HP Issue Resolver”.
    - Added option to change TDRLevel to Zero.
    - HP Envy products should no longer suffer from blank screen issue on start up.
    - Other minor config fixes for other models.

Catalyst 12.x Jun12 UnifL (Rel/UP1) for Hybrid Graphics

I found another possible fix, its from the Guru3D.com site.
It has the new AMD Catalyst 12.x (9.00 June 12) Unofficial BETA, Support for Win 7 and 8
This leads me to believe that the Intel HD 4000 is a W8 component.
We might have to BUY W8 to get this thing going.

CCC includes the switching and HD 4000 driver.

Forum link: AMD Catalyst 12.x (9.00 June 12) Unofficial BETA - Guru3D.com Forums
DL link: AMD Catalyst 12.x (9.00 June 12) Unofficial BETA download from Guru3D.com

These drivers have a new wireless display mode, maybe the switching is fixed?
    Who's the first to try?

Have you tried this download on your computer, if so, are you using the Envy 17 3D-3200?
Does it work? for I have not had any luck with Leshcat's software - not saying they don't work.

Leshcat UPDATED his drivers, don't try them if you don't want to.
Have you submitted a support ticket to Leshcat for a fix?
    I sent my 17- 3090NR 3D back for a defect, I'm WAITING for a 17- 3290NR 3D REPLACEMENT!

Unless you try, there will never be a fix, so everyone sits on the fence and waits for the easy fix, it wont happen.

Someone want to try this with the AMD Catalyst 12.x (9.00 June 12) Unofficial BETA, and report back?

I have download and installed this file before on Windows 7 64bit before, the software did not recognize my system. I even downloaded Windows 8 64bit preview, and the software still did not recognize my system. Do you have any tips or tricks?

Also, I will be trying Leshcats's new software update; however, before I try it I want to state that the bios should be unlocked and switchable graphics updated first in order for it to work at all or properly due to Amd's Enduro. Well here goes nothing.

I'll update on this forum soon. Lets keep our fingers crossed... I also agree with you on we the people need to keep on trying for a fix/trial and error because HP sure as heck isn't.

The generic drivers say "7800M Series" card, which is normal. Your card isn't downgraded by any means. You still have a 7850M. Nothing to worry about.

Am I missing something, and if so can you explain to me what it is that I do not understand about this guy. We may be close to the answer. For some reason I don't think this guy as a Envy 17t-3200 3D or i7 processor, something is not right. Also, this guy refers to "op", I'm not sure what that stands for, and "Intel SG driver" but does not have a download link or information on where to get it.

Listen you donkey, this Thread refers to the Envy 17 3D 3200. My reply was addressed to AU4U per his post. Thanks for letting me know that "OP" stands for original post, I thank you for that. However, let me teach you something. I have read many Threads with un-updated information based on the consumer's last laptop and specs. Thanks for wasting mine and everyone else's time.

Looks like these drivers dork over my ability to adjust brightness (with FN keys or in Control Panel). I was unable to install 12.7 drivers over them also. My computer has reverted back and forth between basic and aero desktop a few times at odd intervals which is strange. Never happened before.

Not sure if this helps you 3D guys/gals.

Sorry, lol, I understand that you are a woman now... On the other hand HP is still offering me a refund; However, through BBB.ORG only. If it wasn't for my claim through the BBB they would just send me another defective locked product.

On the bright side, it appears HP has their team out in full force reading through threads and posts now - they are screwed and they hopefully now know it.

This is going to be our final post on this thread.
Both AU4U and I, our insider at the HP Forum, informed us that the fix will have to be a combination Bios Up Date and HDD/SSD Firmware Update.
I have never herd of a HDD/SSD firmware update for something like this problem.
Possibly a Bios Up Date and a SoftPak for the SWFolder is what I'm thinking.

Anyways, HP isn't bringing them into Canada, so its up to you to get on HP's case for a fix.
Talk to some writers for Tek and Gadgets magazines, newspapers, online sources etc.
I would highly suggest a Federal Consumer Protection Agency.
Lets face it, If this was a car that had faulty brakes and people get hurt, it would be recalled/fixed immediately.
There's no reason to let big Corporations stick their hands in your pockets and steel from you by not delivering the goods in satisfactory condition.
    Gey MAD, REAL MAD!

Be prepared to hand it out as a loaner so they can test it first hand.

    Good Luck
    PK, AU4U

Where in our post did it say that there will be a fix coming?
Are you actually READING the post or are you just seeing what you want to see.
The Canadian operation will NOT bring them into the country because of the problems associated with them.
The Envy 17 is at it 3rd generation, that's it for the lineup, that's as far as HP goes with product development of notebooks.
You got stuck with the last mess they made.

    Good luck.........

So they are simply saying what the fix will need to be but not actually following through? Read that wrong, no need to snap.

THERE WILL BE NO FIX ISSUED, THERE WILL BE NO UPDATES COMING FOR THE 2 PROBLEMS.
The Envy 17 line up is at its last generation, the lineup as it is will be discontinued, there will be NO MORE SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT for the current generation.
    Its done,
    Finished.

You got stuck with a lemon, no WiDi and no Intel HD 4000 as advertised for the model.
