I talk with them so I can get more of a discount than what I see on the website. Works some times, sometimes doesn't.
-
-
Also, I talked to HP in their live chat. They couldn't give me a date when it would come back. They did try to push their other products on me though. -
This stuff has happened so many times in the past with other laptops, like the VAIO E... I'm so happy I was an early adopter of the Envy 14.
-
Lets see what happens over the next week. -
-
Thanks for the heads up. Hopefully the screen is in stock within a week or so beacuse like many others here I need it for school asap.
I love the laptop from what ive heard, maybe for a back to school you guys could give the slice battery for free? just a suggestion lol it would be good for college. -
Hi all,
I've been reading this thread since the start.
I would like to clarify something though:
I could order the Envy14 with brightview screen now, and then when radiance is back in stock I could send my Envy back to HP to get radiance screen installed, provided I pay the difference of the screens?
Sounds weird though, what are they going to do with the old brightview screen I had? Or is it that I have to pay the full cost of the radiance screen instead of the difference? -
Hahah, omg, most hilarious thing ever. I saw it being offered a couple days ago, and then I decided to sleep on it, and now it's gone! Not funny at all! Grrrrrrr. Lesson is: Grab it while you can! Applies to most things actually, even the girl of your dreams
Cheers!
-
Edit: Sorry, forgot to quote but this reply is for steby.
The Brightview is the base price so you would have to pay the $200.00. According to a chat log I read on this forum (don't remember where) where someone chatted with an HP Rep, they could return their laptop within 21 days and upgrade it.
Mind you, the rep did not seem very clear with their response- such as if there is a fee for the maintenance- but I guess your situation depends on whether or not you feel lucky enough to wait for the radiance screen to come back in stock by then. -
-
So, if its past 21 days, I don't get to change my screen at all? -
According to the post, ghc was right and there should not be a maintenance fee. As for the 21 days return part, I misread/remembered incorrectly and assumed that the question about upgrading the display through HP was a part of it- looking at it now, it seems like it could be separate. Like I said, the Rep doesn't make it very clear or I'm just over analyzing it (I'm in the same boat as you). Your best bet is to talk to them yourself.
Also, in the chat log the Rep says that it is not possible to order to display separate and install it yourself but in the manual there is a section dedicated solely to removing/assembling the display yourself. Is this another case of a Rep throwing out assumptions, the manual being out of date, or me just being wrong? [Manual here; See manual page 75: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02280351.pdf] -
Hmm. I see. Yeah I kind of gave up on the online sales rep already. I have already contacted them twice.
First time the sales rep just kept on telling me that the radiance is the default offered screen and there will be no other options, but when I refreshed the website it was still only showing the brightview option. So after 10 mins of repeating and rephrasing myself, I took it as he wasn't understanding me and thanked him for his "help".
The second time the sales rep just said he didn't know any information about why the radiance was not available anymore and had no idea when it would be back.
Problem is, I am currently not in the states right now, so I cant call them up.
I would order the envy14 with brightview right now if it was possible that in the future when the radiance pops back up I could just get it exchanged/upgraded. Sounds too good to be true though, so I wanted to double check. -
Depending on Jason's response later today (man, I need to stop staying up late), I will probably be calling HP to ask them to put me on the call list for when it is back in stock. When I do, I'll ask them for you so one way or another, you'll get your answer. Hell, maybe Jason will respond here instead beforehand.

I'm heading for college in the fall, and if the option isn't added again soon, what laptop should I get?
I was thinking I should take advantage of the Apple Free Ipod deal while I can. I really wanted a pc, but I don't really see any other quality builds like this one. -
The only other comparable model I found was the Sony Vaio Z line.
Hi-res 13" screens, ssd, and long battery life, with good reviews from engadget etc. Of course, being Sony they tear you a new one with the pricing. -
-
$1699 for the Z with i5-520m, 4GB DDR3, HD 5650, 1600x900 screen, 128GB SSD from MicroCenter.
Envy 14, similar config with Envy 14 will cost you ~ $1600 but with 160GB Intel SSD and 1600x900 screen.
Plus if you can find a cheap running laptop with P4 2GHz or faster, you can trade in to Sony for $300 if you buy a Z. -
Downsides on the Z for me were:
- 620M dual core is the top tier CPU
- Somewhat fragile feeling screen panel
- 13.1" screen is a bit smaller than I'm really comfortable with, Envy is just right
- Integrated 3G is locked to Verizon
- Can't get the free Adobe software bundle with the Fresh Start/no bloatware option
- Crap dock (though HPs port replicator isn't much either)
- Cost when fully specced out ~$4K
Upsides
- Raid 0 SSD arrays
- 1080p screen available
- Weight ~3lbs
- Blu-ray player/burner upgrade available (what's with HP saying there isn't one small enough to fit in the Envy 14?)
- Expresscard port (can add USB3.0 card)
For what it's worth, the sales reps can give you a 10-15% discretional discount if you chat with the right one, and are ready to buy.
I'm hoping HP will get the Radiance screen in shortly, otherwise I'll probably switch back to the Vaio Z option, I don't really see anything else in the 13-14" space with similar power specs. -
The down side to the Z is that it's Sony.

If you order your PC from www.hpdirect.com, we give you 21 days from the day you recive your notebook to do an exchange or return. There is no "maintince fee", or restocking/ return shipping fees. As far as upgrading the screen yourself later, I just checked the HP parts store and the Radiance screen is not an orderable part. This would be an expensive route to take anyway, since the screens can be $300 and up. I will keep everyone posted on any news I hear when this will be back in stock. -
I'll be waiting until September 7 and if it's not there, MacBook Pro it is.
The reason I say Sep. 7 is because it's the last day to get the free ipod. I'm hoping to god that the Radiance is back in stock by then. The performance downgrade I get with the MB Pro is going to kill me. -
Oh man, out of stock...
Now I'm in a bind. I don't know whether to wait for it to come back or drop down to a different computer with a worse, 700p, screen... I really wanted that 900p, but I can't afford a Vaio nor do I want a MBP... -
-
-
I assume you just get billed for the difference?
-
HP screwed up big time. Especially with school starting over the next few weeks, tons of lost sales I tell ya.
-
-
Has anyone noticed that as of today there is a $200 off coupon for ENVY notebooks. HP always takes care to exclude the ENVYs especially ENVY 14 from any decent coupon so I'm guessing their hoping to compensate for the sales drop they will be facing because the 1600x900 radiance screen is out of stock. The expiration date on the coupon is August 23. Is it reasonable to assume that the radiance screen will be back in stock by then?
-
Edit: NM, found it. Didn't work for me, is it only for the Envy 17? -
typo sorry
-
Can the supply mgr also turn back the price to $1099 and bring back BCB?

I'm actually going out of state for the next week or so, and wasn't planning on ordering until I got back in town. I have no problem waiting for a restock once the last few go out, but as long as there is going to definitely be a restock. -
Amen to that...i am working my butt off to sell my HDX to fund this bad boy...
-
Was hoping to get one of these rather soon, but I guess if they run out of the Radiance display I'll just wait for the next gen or possibly a 3rd gen envy 15... -
I wonder... I still have my customized E14 with radiance screen priced at 1250$, without tax in my cart. What would happen if I send in the order ? Would i get denied ?
I already have 2 e14 ordered, i don't feel like getting another one. -
If they don't restock the radiance screen then what's the point of this laptop? There are much better deals out there on similarly equipped laptops...
Im really hoping HP doesn't drop the ball on this one. -
I agree, Reslap, which is why I don't see them getting rid of the screen all-together - or rather, not restocking it.
The Radiance screen is beautiful, and a real selling point for the Envy 14, something that definitely sets it apart from it's competition. Losing that edge doesn't seem very smart on HP's part. -
-
Hi All, the only coupon we have as of today that works with the envy 14 I found here: $25 off Orders $125+ Coupon Code: SVMB39487 at HP
-
After a lot of research i finally found a laptop which meets my gaming demands as well as size factor......and now am reading that HP has stopped offering the Radiance display as an option. Can anybody confirm if they are out of stock or there will no more be the Radiance display for the envy 14??? wasnt the radiance display of the best selling point of this laptop??
-
Just one page back and you would of found your answer; probably should read through the thread(s) before asking a question that has been answered a few times already:
-
Crossing my fingers and toes, hoping I can get my Envy 14 with the Radiance display.
FYI, entering LOGIC50 as a coupon code gets you 50 bucks off the Envy 14. It's not 200 bucks but its better than nothing.
Radiance display no longer an option for envy??
