If they want to be competitve with the MacBook Pro, then they better offer it again. I don't know how or why it would have just "disappeared" for good. I can see supply issues, but to cancel altogether, unless there's payment dispute or other crazy business between HP and the LCD supplier (no idea who it is).

I wonder who manufactures the panel, maybe the manufacturer (LG, Samsung, ?) did not expect them to burn through so many of the higher end panel equipped screens and need to up production, and/or want a larger amount of money from HP for this popular part.

Whatever the case may be, HP should work to get it's suppliers for higher end panels to be more uniform and less... spotty. It sucks to rely on some third party for critical products to sell, ala amd/ati and tsmc when their dates slip, but maybe that just cannot be avoided.

Well, considering this is their flagship product, having an average quality screen with 1366x768 resolution is unacceptable IMHO. While HP touts the "premier" support for the Envy line, I haven't noticed it. Heck you can't even get a hard drive replaced without sending in your whole machine.

Dell will send you a replacement part, well mainly simple user swappable parts like HDD, RAM, battery, power cord, etc, without question as long as they get the original back. I could see if you were asking for a replacement CPU or heatsink, but for hard drive?

Dell offers great warranty service for their worst products. If HP could implement dells warranty services to their premium products HP would be set. I used to have a dell XPS 13 which came with a loose optical drive which would make weird clicking noises. I complained a little and a serviceman was sent out the next day to have my drive replaced. He said he could not replace it saying that it was a problem with the whole computer and I was given about $400 worth of upgrades in a brand new computer just for the small inconvenience.

I wonder what will happen to current e14 Radiance owners who are RMAing their laptops for replacement. I'm just returned mine and have an Aug. 31 estimated build date.. hope they aren't all gone by then. :(

I'm just going to order sans radiance screen and just hope that the screen is available with 21 days. By the way, is that 21 days from purchase or 21 days from receiving the unit?

Good point. However, I doubt they've "run out" of them. But that is interesting if they decide to stop using them, what happens if its broken and to be replaced with ADP plan or it just fritzes out.

21 days from the day you receive it.

I can't imagine HP removing the radiance screen permanently. It just doesn't make any sense. After all the good reviews come out praising the laptop for its great features, Hp pulls one of the best parts about it? I think there's more of an issue than just the 'behind in manufacturing' excuse.

if it was behind in manufacturing they would just leave it on so they can rack up the sales and if the buyer wants to wait they'd wait. I'm aiming towards the maker of the screen wants to increase its price so maybe hp believes they would make more money with the regular screen then one with a radiance display. this could explain why there was an initial price rise of 200.

Why cant they come up with a waiting list for the radiance screen orders?

If you're willing to wait for the radiance screen, they should be able to put u in a queue and deliver it to u as soon as it is available.

They should even add discounts if you're willing to wait over one month for the orders. That's just one way top manage the orders.

I jumped off the bandwagon but was HUGELY interested in the Envy 14 for this reason.

Other than the Sony CW, it was the ONLY laptop with a 1600x900 resolution in a 14" form factor.

I'm sorry, without that ace up it's sleeve, it offers nothing over its competitors.

I'm not gonna jump to conspiracies, but it is indeed odd not having the option at all. They could just put a delay or back order announcement. As long as it comes up again this week, i won't panic. :/

I am on my second RMA of this prodcut - my original order date was 5 weeks ago, and now the rep says he can only send me a brightview screen?!? I told him I would wait for the Radiance to come in stock again. He did offer me an addtl $50 discount, on top of my $113 discount and 30% BCB if and when I place the 3rd order

Add one to the "I had one configured and didn't pull the trigger" camp. I'll (unfortunately) be looking elsewhere now. The CSR I talked to didn't reassure my confidence in HP. But he sure did try to upsell me. Yeah, it's his job, I suppose, but I just had a simple question about the product he couldn't answer and instead tried to sell me something else. Meh.

Also, the HP Envy 14 page still shows "A 14.5" diagonal edge-to-edge HD+ Radiance Infinity LED display with super sharp resolution (1600 x 900)". At least change that so people aren't misled...

    Its Back Up!

    Still 200 bucks though. :(

There is no way they would have reduced the price though. If its selling that well I wouldn't have been surprised if they had INCREASED the price.

Really hope that was just a little glitch in their stock management system and not a freq issue !!! would be bad if their premium products start losing its best selling point.

If the Radiance option is dropped, the E14 is dead to me - and probably to a lot of other potential customers. I have to think HP is aware of this.

I dont believe they are dropping this option just a limited supply at the moment because the demand was higher then expected.

Yeah, E14 without Radiance is just another laptop really. I mean the metal chassis is nice, as are the other options, but really not worth the premium they charge without the radiance.

How could this happen? Seems really strange to me. 1600x900 seems a natural fit for this machine. It's too bad because you can't find any 14" with a resolution higher than 1366x768 any more. Vaio Z is the only one.

Just got a call from hp and ordered my third envy after two rmas. I asked what happened with the screen...
She said they were running the radiance as a test, it was obviously popular, so they went back to their supplier to get more...that supplier will not be making them anymore and hp has not found anyone that can or will make these screens for them within a certain price poiint.
She said they only have about 100 left, and they will go fast, afterwhich they will be hunting for a new supplier for who knows how long. Even when they find a new supplier they will have to do test runs and qc....so BUY NOW!

This radiance display scandal seems to me some clever marketing strategy to keep the supply low and boost the demand. I don't buy the idea that radiance was some sort of trial screen idea for hp. Hp is such a big company, if they introduce something new there is lots of work behind it and proper contracts with suppliers too. If radiance is going off in hp store it's just a marketing trick by hp and not any supplier issues.

I'm not sure if this would work, tho I imagine it would:

If you call your credit card company and change your billing address on your card to that of an American address then you should be in business. Of course you also need an American shipping address, but that shouldn't be a problem considering you were able to obtain a billing address already :p

Like I said, not sure if this works, tho I don't see why it wouldn't/ I really hope it works, because that's what I plan on doing...

I ordered mine this morning also but does this mean if I have to RMA mine that my replacement most likely will NOT have the Radiance display since they will not be available for a long time, if ever? That would mean an RMA would force you to back to the inferior screen. :(

I would assume if that were the case you would be eligible for a complete refund rather than a return of a lower spec product than was purchased.

That said, I am surprised at the amount of speculation HP are somehow going to allow their premier product line to continue on without a high-tier screen option. Obviously the matter will/has been resolved, they'll either source it from a different lcd manufacturer or even switch to a higher resolution screen option to remain competitive.

Various Sony VAIO laptops that now only have 720p, and the MIA Dell RGB LED panel say hi.

Honestly though, I'm surprised computer companies haven't figured out yet that there is a huge market out there for real high definition panels. I would never use 1366x768 above 13.3", and clearly many people share that thought.

Used it this morning on my order. Hope it ships earlier than expected though.
