I just jump on no CnQ, but the need to right click to change clock control mode or profile get annoying. So I decide to make shortcuts to do it. and pinned them to my start menu.

I added the [-nw -lp:# -ClkCtrl:#] at the end of target. No window, no tray icon, WooT.

Load porfile work, not sure if clkcontrol mode work at the moment.
hmm so If I put StayOnTray, clock control will work but then I cant switch to other mode. Damn it !

If I put both -StayOnTray, I will have 2 instance of k10, so probably need to find a way to kill previous one.

Did some research, best bet is to use task scheduler via a custom event log and run a batch to kill previous task Oh my...

Edit: actually I think a batch would just work without all those BS above

Need help with FAQ guys. What questions have you seen asked repeatedly? I can dig up valid responses, but at least questions would help, although pointing to other valid responses would be good too. I'd like to give credit where credit is due, as well as minimize research on my end.

In GPU-Z it is showing a Default clock of 100mhz memory 81mhz for the discrete graphics card and then it says GPU clock 740 mhz memory 880mhz. Is this correct?

HTWingNut, you can add the Crucial M4 128GB to your list of working hard drives.

Also, I've managed to get some overclocking and undervolting working under Linux using TurionPowerControl, after working out some viable settings using your guide under Windows. Thanks for your invaluable guide!

I've done both of these and it still shows the 6620g in Kombustor(i also disabled ULPS)

It's strange my driver never calls out the card as the 6750 in gpu-z or afterburner. It's labeled as AMD Radeon 6000 & 7000 series but the stats in gpu-z are correct for the card.

Hey HWingNut, I think you can put some other brands of computer with this characteristics under the FAQ section, something like "other overclockable brands with fusion tech" like the k53t from asus (and note that the models with A4 can't xfire with 6650m while the a6 can)

    Good idea, You can add mine HP Pavilion G6-1215SP 15.6" AMD A4-3300M w/ ATI 6480G / 6GB 1333Mhz.
I have been following this thread and has been good to me to understand this system.

And btw, I saw a guy selling a A8-3500M on ebay, for a good price and from what i saw it has the same socket/35watts, but a diferent IGP (6620G), it would be a good upgrade to my model, what is your opinion should I buy it and try or you think that it would not work?

    My source: AMD A8-Series A8-3500M AM3500DDX43GX

Theoretically the A8 should work, but depends on if there's BIOS support for the chip or not.

I buy it and try, the price is good if it fails isn't a big lost anyway.
One more thing HTWingNut, I saw you 6620 benchmark thread, and from what I understand the card has better performance on dual channel, and my system has 2 RAM sticks 4GB + 2GB from diferent brands it probably isn't working at dual channel right?

    Regards

yes it is dual channel, only for 4GB of the RAM though, although it manages it well that way. See the orange bars in my benchmarks as I tested with 4GB + 2GB sticks. There's a slight performance hit, but < 5%.

I can confirm the ADATA 1600 RAM works at rated speeds, but I have no way to check the voltage. I am using the BIOS with extended options, so perhaps that is why I am getting the full speed while others only got 1333.

Also, tested and got the OCZ Petrol 128GB drive (not recommended at all) working, but I can't figure out how to enable AHCI mode. I set it to that in the BIOS, but it keeps reverting back. I even did the msahci tweak in the registry to no avail. Any tips/tricks?

    RAM: Newegg.com - ADATA XPG Gaming Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model AXDS1600GC4G9-2
And proof: CPU-Z Validator 3.1 (it always says it's invalid because of the strange 100MHz fsb :( )
SSD: Newegg.com - OCZ Petrol PTL1-25SAT3-128G 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Leave it at "IDE to AHCI", which is really just AHCI.

Apparently a firmware update was necessary, but now it is reporting it as a SCSI device, instead of IDE, and I can confirm TRIM is enabled... I was stupid to not have updated it first.

Thanks for the info. Now I'm kicking myself a little for getting the wife a DV6-6135dx when we could have got a 1080P screen and an A8-3530MX for ~$100 more. But she seems happy with it so far, and I can always upgrade the screen for ~$100 if she needs it.

Do you (or HT, anybody) think the 1080p screen upgrade (aftermarket) is good value at this point given we're near the end of this model's production run? Or should I maybe wait for a Trinity-based unit and get a 1080p on that model instead, maybe a refurb in six months? when those are available?

I'm asking because the dv6z I have is 720p which seems fine. Interestingly the 720p screen I have is about the same pixel density as my HP 23" on my desktop @ 1920x1080. I'm not sure if 1920x1080 on a 15" will be too sharp for me, plus I'd rather get by with this one for now and upgrade in 4-6 months if Trinity is as much better as is projected.

I would try to check out a 15" 1080p laptop at bestbuy or someplace to see if the screen res works for you. I know for me 720p at 15in isn't great for the web or documents. What are the specs of your current system?

On upgrading the screen to me depends on the system you have now, and how long you are planning on keeping it. I was upgrading the wife from a still working fine Dell 1500 vostro (core2 2.0GHz w/Nvidia 8600GT, 1440x900 screen) to something that could play more modern games, and trying to do it cheaply. She's going to keep her Dell for non-gaming. I'm only planning on doing the upgrade if she feels she needs more screen area, but if she switches over to this system as her main laptop I could see doing the upgrade.

For me if you are planning on keeping your system 2 to 3 more years I could see the screen upgrade being very worth it. But if you're just going to upgrade to Trinity this year it seems like you would be better just putting that money towards a new system and get the screen upgrade on that.

Best buys website says carried the HP Envy 15-3040NR which they say is 1080p but it seem to be soldout anywhere near me but other then that you seem to be right.

    I think I saw a 1080p Envy at costco last week but I can't remember if it was a 17in or 15in.

I've never seen a 1080p 15.6 at my Best Buy, or Staples, etc. That I can recall at least. But I only started looking into it more recently. I had a Transformer tablet but it wasn't working for me. It was nice but 1280x800 at 10.1 meant a good bit of zooming on websites, and I got frustrated with missing features of mobile apps vs. desktop versions of some key programs I use), plus I wasn't using it as much as I thought I would. So I sold that and picked up a dv6z 6100 recently. Specs are A6-3400m, currently running P0 2GHz @ .9875V and P6 800MHz @ .7125V, if I remember correctly; 8GB DDR3 - the only real upgrade, using a spare stick I had sitting around; 640GB 5400 SATA; Radeon 6750M, the usual.

I had previously tried a 13.3" Acer and that was a bit small too (1366x768 13.3" screen).

So, my dv6z is 1366x768 @ 15.6, which is probably a reasonable compromise for now. I'll keep using it at least a month or so to get a good feel for it to decide if I actually need a higher-res or not. Mostly I'd be doing portable gaming, word processing, and web browsing...and that all seems to be acceptable at 720p on the 15.6. I realize higher res would help with at least the text stuff and web browsing, make it less fuzzy/crisper, but honestly I should probably be doing less web browsing than I do. :) Plus I have a desktop, so this isn't my 'main' machine, just fun to tinker with and use as needed. :)

I've ran a stability test using Kombuster for over a half hour in windowed mode but for some reason when exiting from full screen mode my laptop goes to sleep. Any ideas?

Just to say that it works, was my first time replacing a laptop processor but was not that hard, and its running perfectly :D.
I will try some benchmarks later to compare the results between the A4 3300m + 6480G and now the A8 3500m + 6620.
Whan i can say is that battery time didnt change too much.

I do. Mine's at home, and I can't guarantee it will work exactly for you, but I can take a screenshot so you can see what values are working for me. I haven't tested all of them extensively, but it's been stable playing BF3 and running at the intermediate states for the past week or so, so that's good enough for me.

You are guaranteed to get lockups with someone else's profile. It is highly unlikely that another profile will work at all P-states for you. It should be a good starting point, and then work on the P-states from there.

That's what I plan to do.

I actually used yours. It ran Prime 95 fine for half an hour. Computer wouldn't shut down properly which was very odd.

Out of curiosity, the Fid/Did values isn't important right? It's the speed that's important right? What I mean by this is that in some instances, two different pairs of Fid/Did combinations can yield the same speed.

As far as I know, the combination doesn't matter, just the resultant speed. However this hasn't been tested or verified in any manner.

Will the 12.1 Preview Drivers and the 11.9 CAP Profile work on a 7690m?
Also, can I use a bios by Musho on a DV6z with a 7690m or do they only work on the 6750m?
    Thanks.

Dolphin works, but not great. I get like 50-75% speed in Xenoblade and SMG2 at 2.4ghz. It's been a while since I used dolphin though, so it might be a little more or less than that. I do clearly remember those two games lagging though.

Anybody tried the new AMD Driver 12.2 ? tried installing/uninstalling it several times, but it is not very stable although I think it improved performance a little bit. I had to roll back to 12.1 after crashing while I'm doing some work. Is it just me or 12.2 is bad for dv6z for other people?

    Hi! Awesome tutorial!

But I think I am doing something wrong. I set K10stat as mentioned in the tutorial for undervolting and now I am running K10Stat at P0 at FUD 17, DID 1, Frequency 2200 and CPU voltage at 0.700. It has been running Prime95 for about 15 minutes and HWiNFO64 is showing around 2.200 for all clocks with no throttling, and temperature is at 80.

I didn't try lowering but I may be able to do so. Wasn't it supposed to lockup my computer already?
