The P6 on K10Stat can be underclocked from 800 MHz to 500 MHz without any noticeable slow downs (computer starts feeling slow at 300 MHz or lower). I was able to undervolt my A8-3530mx down to .7 V

Sorry for taking too long to give some feedback about my "problem". But as I mentioned before, I think either my laptop is broken or I am doing something wrong!!!

I took this picture just now and my notebook has been running like that for the last 20 minutes.

    Any ideas?

I was wondering why manufacturers don't like to leave full control over CPUs, GPUs to customers? Because they try to use all kind of crazy voltages, multipliers, etc...

Because most people don't care and don't want to brother? People buy a machine to do work, not buy a machine to work on it.

hi everyone! Ive been studying this thread for like three days now cause i'm so eager to learn how to overclock/undervolt,I just want to point out that I've never done over clocking before,so my apologies in advance for the questions that im about to ask.

*would it still cause lockups if i copy a k10stat setting from a dv6z with the same exact cpu/gpu as mine?
*would the repeated process of dropping down the voltage till your laptop errors out cause any damage at all?
*as mentioned in this guide it says i should start at 2.2GHz. I have a
AMD Quad-Core A6-3430MX 2.4GHz/1.7GHz, is a P0 of 2.2Ghz fine with mine?or is it too high?if it is, then what value should I start?

any help would be much appreciated.

Every machine is different. You will likely cause lockups if you use someone else's profile, or conversely not fully realize the lowest voltage your system can manage.

There is always a risk with overclocking, but as long as you are careful there should be zero damage to your system. Just don't be typing your term paper and not save it while doing this, lol. Don't run anything of importance while overclocking and in absolute worse case scenario, you may have to Windows system repair or reformat. But this is rare, and likely only to happen if you just try to crank up speed too quickly.

Yes, most can get 780-820 and 850-900 stable. I can run 780/880 all day long. 800/900 is stable 99% of the time, with an occasional anomaly or hiccup, so I just stick with 780/880 because it's stable and good enough. That extra amount doesn't really add anything.

It does NOT work with AMD dual graphics, install errors, left display resolution at low, I just overwrote v12.1, no good, and then i ran driver sweeper before the install and tried again, still no good, looks like it`s back to v12.1

Back to v8.9 why? "amd_catalyst_12.1a_preview_win7_32-64" works fine, "12-3_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc" works but the cpu clocks are wrong , mains 800-1500 , battery 800-1700 ???

i've tried these drivers but with no sucess...

are the performance between those and hp drivers that noticeable john ?

Is anyone having issues with Afterburner 2.2.0 like me? I applied the Eula and UnofficialOverclockingMode and made sure I disabled ULPS, but the Afterburner "clocks" are stuck at 0. I didn't have this problem in 2.1.0, but I can't find the download for it ANYWHERE, they've all been replaced with 2.2.0.

Hey. I have a general question regarding K10stat. I have had a stable OC/Undervolt (P6 800Mhz at 0.625v through B0 2.5Ghz at 1.125v) profile that I have been running for awhile (can post if need be) and I have been having problems with freezing. You're thinking "well then it's obviously not stable" and that may be the case, I just don't know.

I have my K10stat to boot on startup, the problem lies if I unplug or plug in the AC then my computer freezes. No bsod, just a freeze. Also, with K10stat running it NEVER shuts down properly. It freezes on Shut down. If I ever want to shut down my machine I have to hold down the power button.

Any advice (besides not running K10stat) would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Actually, "GPU1", "GPU2" and "GPU3" all listed the 6750m.

I had no issues with 2.1.0 besides the unusual overclocking limits resetting after a certain high clock setting was applied and afterburner restarting and afterburner failing to apply my overclocks at startup.

2.2.0 didn't work for me at all, but it's ok, I've downgraded back to 2.1.0 and downloading it by "hacking" the latest version's link location and replacing "220" with "210". I really can't find any links to older versions of the software.

afterburner never worked to applied clock at startup for dual graphic, it will probably work in fixed mode but dynamic is no go.

    How is 2.2 not working?

I've been getting the freezes lately. If I find anything out, I'll let you know. Is your HD light constantly red now? I think I might have some memory errors.

Edit: This is directly related to K10STAT. I'd recommend disabling it for now. I even upped my voltages by 1 step and it still happened. My computer won't boot with K10 now, it'll freeze immediately when I login.

    7690m XT = 6770m

Most likely your P6 voltage. You probably weren't stability testing correctly and unless you have a very special chip, 0.625 V is wayyyy too low of a voltage for 800 MHz. My voltage for 750 MHz is .750 V so for 800 MHz to be stable it should be about .7625-.7750 V. Your voltage for 2.5 GHz is fine (mine is at 1.1 V).

If you want you can underclock your P6 down to 500 MHz and the stable voltage can be as low as .7 V. That's my P6 state and my computer doesn't feel slow at all (usually starts feeling slow at 400 or 350 MHz)

Edit: Forgot to mention I have an A8-3530MX. Stable voltages could be different for each APU. Which one do you have?
When I apply those configurations to allow overclocking the nobs are stuck at "0" MHz for both core and memory and won't move at all. Before applying the EULA and unofficialoverclocking the nobs work normally, but clock limits are at stock.

    I use Fusion Tweaker.

I have my P7 800mhz at 0.6875 , I have had two freezes over the last couple of days, but i have been messing with NB P0 and NB P1

I ran prime95 for 10mins on each frequency, is that long enough?

Do you find, that you can get a freeze when the notebook is idle, you come back to it after a few minutes to a garbled frozen screen.

.6875 for 800 seem too low. If you are only testing using short duration, spend some time look at the clock in hwinfo , if the clock jump around or some core crash, still need to bump it up.

I would say just bump it up 2-3 notch, it is not gonna be noticeable in battery life. Better be safe than sorry.

I just adjust the power slider in catalyst so only 800mhz is used and then run prime95 for an hour, even then my notebook is quite responsive, I browse the net with no slowdowns, is prime95 really using 100% of your cpu?

I've seen this issue with 2 laptops, an Acer, and my current hp dv7-6165us. It seemed to be related to the stock drivers, and went away just as soon as I updated to 12.3. Try that and update us on if it goes away!

guys,I just started my first OC/UV tweaking on my dv6z A6. pls help T_T

    P0:2000 MHz @ 0.9375 = laptop BSOD
so I increased the voltage twice as said in this guide to 0.9625 and started 2nd torture test
but HWiNFO64 shows my core 3 stoped while others are still on "self test"
does this indicate an instability?whats my next move on this one?did I do something wrong?

ps:I started Undervolting form stock settings.

yes, push the vid higher. my 2.0Ghz is 1.0125.
Typically you go from high to low so you dun get BSOD as much. core stopping is sign of instability.

so do i need to up voltage twice again to 0.9875?and what do you mean by -push the " vid" higher- ?

what and/or where should I look for other signs of instability besides temp and core status?how would i know if a core s throttling? all the k10stat,HWinfo64,HWmonitor has alot stuff in it,im not even sure if im looking at the right spot or what are all the things i should be watching for.

    yes , up the voltage.

Typically it wont throttle under pure CPU stress.

    Obvious sign of instability:
    BSOD
1 of the core/worker went off (as in error)
    not so obvious :
the clock reading fluctuate back to previous pstate often

Here is I typically do mine.

find a "guide" look up the value (clock/Ghz) increase the "guide" value around 3 notch voltage. run stress test (prime95 in the guide, do small or large fft either should be fine) , decease the voltage by 1 or 2 notch at a time and see if there is any instability.

If testing from high voltage to low and hit a BSOD, I would typically set the voltage 3-4 notch above the BSOD , that clock should be stable.

Don't stress too much on the ultimate lowest-clock. When you see other peoples example, expected a variance about +- .5VID.

    Hi.

What is involved in removing the lcd back cover, to disconnect the hp logo light?

Is there only two screws, near the hinges under the plastic covers?

    Thanks

    John.
