Yes , just the 2 screw then pile if off, some 1 did take photo but it was deep within the dv6z thread`~
there is a connector split from LVDS just below center of the screen.

Sorry guys, been busy with a billion other things in life. Will try to catch up on posts and update the original posts.

Seems that there may be some 12.4 drivers with overclocking features that may be of interest? Haven't had a chance to look into it much yet.

Have an HP Pavilion G6, running K10Stat with P0 @ 2.4GHZ w/ 1.250V. About 30 seconds in, core 3 drops down to 800MHZ and stays there. Is this a problem? How do I fix it?

    while you doing stress test?
1.25 for 2.4 seem high enough though

Yes, while I'm running prime95. Core 3 drops down. Is that normal?

And should I try dropping the voltage one notch while running at 2.4GHZ or just keep it at 1.25?

Oh, yeah, just noticed that. It says "Hardware failure detected, worker stopped working" right at the start of the test. Is that a problem?

Also, 2.4GHZ @ 1.25V crashes my laptop. Is the A6-3420M processor locked or something?

Did you try to run 2.2Ghz, I believe it is the sweet spot for voltage and heat .

try to get a stable running at 2.2 then work up and down from there.

I ran it at 2.2GHZ @ 1.1 stock voltage and it ran flawlessly. What does it mean when Core 3 fails, though? I should bump up the voltage? Or that it's not achievable?

typically in that scenario , I will bump up the VID until it doesn't do that.(usually just 1 notch from that should be stable)

1.25 seem to be alot of heat though

Also, how do I test each P state in prime95? Even when I lock Pstate to P3 (for example), HWInfo still shows the clocks reaching the P0 state.

in k10stat is the "locked state" clocks seem like they are pressed down?

try pressing the clocks in k10stat it should do the same thing as lock.

Yes, they are locked. KStat says it's locked but HWInfo still lists my P0 clocks when I run prime95.

change all P's to the clock/voltage you want to try, this way they'll always be locked at the clock/voltage you want

So, what's everyone's experience with HP warranty repair? Mine is still doing green lines via HDMI and will freeze when I plug it in with K10STAT running, so I think my motherboard is going out and want to send it in. Also parts of my case are falling off (the little plastic pieces by the speakers) and I'd like those replaced too.

they typically just reformat your HDD if they cant get the error to occur, their return and send in is actually decent.(free both way and 2 business day)

You probably dun want to tell them you are overclocking, slim slim chance they will replace the board unless you call them and make a strong argument. But if you call them , they will help you "troubleshoot")

they probably wont fix the case though.

Yeah, I'm gonna pull the PC Repair Tech card. I know it's the actual board, as it occurs in Ubuntu and Windows. And also physical parts of the case are falling off, which should not be happening. I'm gonna delete any evidence of K10STAT or FusionTweaker.

FYI to anybody that's interested, I tried the leaked AMD Catalyst 12.5 drivers on my DV6z last night.

They seem to work REALLY well. With 12.4 I had to overclock my 7690m a bit to get a decent framerate in Crysis 2, but with the 12.5 beta I get around 30-35fps at stock clocks (1280x768, "very high" preset, DX11 enabled). Best of all, Dual Graphics/CrossfireX seems to be working WITHOUT any micro stuttering.

I've only played Crysis 2 and Doom 3 so far (didn't have a lot of game time last night) but tonight I'll fire up some other games and see if it wasn't just a fluke.

Just ordered mine.... DV6-6145dx from newegg for a whooping $400. No tax and free shipping. Only downside... refurbished. I don't mind. I just got an AMD A8 CPU, 8GB of ram, and 640GB hdd for $400, I'm not complaining, plus newegg's customer service is pretty good.

I can NOT wait until it arrives. Just a quick question, when I first receive it, I will be wiping the whole harddrive and reinstalling Windows 7. Do the drivers from the first page still apply? Is there any newer drivers?

I am going to use the laptop for about an week before I start OCing it, just to make sure everything is working properly. Other than that, any new tips for an new purchase?

Ok so, I've carefully read the OP, figured out how to OC the CPU and keep it steady. But I also found out that my integrated graphics chip is the 6620G and it can not be OCed, not a problem. Do I still need to install the drivers and or optimize options so I can get better performance with games and HD videos or is it already good enough? Thanks again. It should be here tomorrow, can't wait.

hm...this is really weird for me,I set up my p1:1800 MHz @ 0.9250 (BSOD on .9000) but HWiNFO64 indicates that all 4 cores are running on 2000 MHz what does that mean?i locked the p1,i enabled clock control and im using large FTTs.
    what am i doing wrong?

Since mobile llanos are easy to overclock with k10stat does that mean they all have unlocked multipliers?

I'd say just stick to catalyst 12.1. Uninstall 12.4 first before installing 12.1.

If you can before overclocking, try and open up the computer reading from the HP's manual and apply new thermal paste. It should result in better overclocking. And download temperature reading software and keep it on the whole time.

Just picked it up from UPS. Wow, I'm just getting used to the keyboard and touchpad coming from the DM3, it's great. Not OCing yet as it's pretty quick for now... wait until I start playing some flight simulators. ;)
I've already installed a clean version of Windows on here, downloaded an bunch of drivers and everything seems to work well. But how the hell do I get the onscreen notifications back while adjusting brightness and volume? I've installed both the onscreen drivers, and quicklaunch drivers.

Also, looks like I've lost CoolSense, anyway to get it back?

And another one, how would I be able to get back the Beats software EQ that was already preinstalled? Thanks

I bought a refurb dv7-6165us and the 6750m was broke, green and black vertical lines. Sent it back, they looked at it and couldn't diagnose the problem and sent it back to me. Got it back, it failed yet again!! I then proceeded to call customer service again, and got a very tech savvy support engineer that was very fun to talk to, and knew exactly what to ask and to do. After an hour or so of trouble shooting, mostly talking about skyrim vs SWTOR, he determined that it was the whole board that needed to be replaced. Sent it back and had it in 3 days, Overnight shipping each way!

    Does anyone here have a kill-a-watt ?

I undervolted my p6 idle state at 800mhz by 0.2 volts. Based on watt formula, that is almost 40% savings on just the cpu.

I want to find out how many watts that saves for the whole system.

can someone undervolt their p6 by 0.2v and see..........

Well, I just thought I'd register because this was something that I thought would be good to share:

I upgraded from the latest HP graphics drivers to the Catalyst 12.1a drivers (overwrote, no "driver cleaning", and was sure to make a System Restore point before) because I wanted to try out overclocking the 6750M, and disabling ULPS with the HP drivers still left ULPS on. I was able to overclock then, and I was finally able to play RAGE without any freezing and was very excited. I then noticed somebody on here mentioned the leaked Catalyst 12.5 drivers, so I figured I'd give those a try, and they work pretty well, but here's the kicker: AMD OverDrive showed up in CCC! It only lets me pick clocks from 1600MHz to 2400MHz for the CPU, but still, thought it was quite amazing for OverDrive to just "show up" like that. The only downside is that I cannot overclock the 6750M now, but I'm seeing better performance on stock clocks 6750M with the 12.5 drivers than I was on 750/950 OC with the 12.1a drivers.

Note: When I installed the drivers, I did not upgrade the HDMI Audio driver, as I noticed in the first post it said that for the fn volume keys to work I had to use the HP driver. Also, I have camiloml's BIOS installed, but I have not messed with the settings in there at all. It is the one in this post: [Unlocked, sp54724] HP Dv6-6135dx [amd]
Not sure if those make any difference, but just figured I'd bring it up.

after undervolting the lowest 3 p-states, I get random rare freezes, where screen goes black, everything freezes, then reboots itself.

it's only happened twice so far, and both times were when I was typing, like on a message board. Very low/no cpu load stuff.

I ran prime95 test for 12 hours on all undervolted pstates, all no errors.

Anyone else have this happen before?

or maybe it's AMD driver again.........

I checked the dump log, and used WhoCrashed, which suggests

This was probably caused by the following module: atikmpag.sys (atikmpag+0x8768)
    Bugcheck code: 0x116 (0xFFFFFA800B630010, 0xFFFFF88003F3A768, 0x0, 0xD)
    Error: VIDEO_TDR_ERROR

    I am running 12.4 catalyst.

I just tired 12.6 and am having some SERIOUS performance issues:

Was on 12.1a, Did a control panel uninstall, and a then a phoenix driver sweeper , display driver wipe in safe mode.

Then rebooted and installed 12.6 beta.

With ULPS enabled I had micro stuttering ..... but frame rate seemed was OK.

After disabling ULPS to try to fix stuttering... now everything runs at about 2-10 fps. Diablo 3 is completely unplayable now.
This is not just for dual graphics. Even with the system hard set to the 6750, performance is still abysmal. Something about this driver and ulps diabled cripples the 6750.

UPDATE: Re-enabled ULPS and frame rate came back up to normal...but still micro-stuttering. I am going to give 12.5 a try.

12.5 with ulps enabled: still stuttering, but it seems to much much less than on 12.6
ULPS Disabled: Same thing as 12.6... horrible FPS no matter what i do.... can anyone else confirm this????

I installed the AMD HP driver, which puts me at 12.4
For the best possible overclock. Should I stick with 12.4, upgrade to 12.5 or downgrade to 12.1 or 12.1a?

Quick question I'll assume you used this method to isolate your 6750. you mention crossfire is that available after doing the fixed 6750 or must you install different drivers?

If I disable crossfire, OC my 6750M, set afterburner to run at startup, will the higher clock affect my battery life during normal use (non-gaming)? I'm trying to figure out whether the higher clock will stay on, or the system simply won't activate the 6750M when it's not needed.

What you could do is enable dynamic and fixed mode using this guide and then set the mode to dynamic then the dGPU will only activate with applications of your choosing.

In dynamic mode, that wont work because afterburner can only apply the clocks if the dGPU is turned on.
