Is there some way to get taps within the button zones to be treated as depressions?

For instance, if I tap within the left button area I want it to be treated as a single click, if I double-tap I want it to be treated as a double-click.

I've been using two-finger tap as a right click for a while now and it is starting to get on my nerves. anyone have a better suggestion for a right click?

two-finger click? I got rid of the tap stuff (besides left click single tap) altogether.

I wouldn't be opposed to actually clicking if it wasn't so cumbersome. I think my trackpad needs to be greased or something. I really don't understand this design..

well the main issue with double finger right click anywhere (or well really click anywhere in general) is that the touchpad wasn't designed for that. The hinge is at the top instead of it being some sorta hingeless design (push down the entire thing or whatever)

yeah i have it set to two finger tap/click (it does it on both). What do you use for a right click (if you use it at all)?

    well I don't do tapping.

I do do "hey my right click button still works" by setting context click to right click (bottom right corner, doesn't go quite as far over as the button design on the touchpad indicates)

double click is middle click for me.

Okay, so I've run into something that is kind of annoying with the drivers. If I do a tap above the marked area for left/right click, then it does a double click type thing. So if I click on a word it will automatically highlight it, or if I click on menu like File, or options or w/e it opens and closes it really quickly.
Also, it doesnt do this 100% of the time. Maybe about 50%
Is there a way to turn that off?

Question. Going into the exam, I am going to be using exam software that pretty much messes with my touchpad software if not complete disables it all. Paradisoft touchpad locker won't work. Plugging in a USB mouse won't turn off my touchpad.

My problem is that tapping the top left portion no longer disables the touchpad and turns it orange. Does following this guide bring back double tap upper left zone to disable back?

Yeah, I tried that method. For some reason, after following Magus's and/or Mike's method, I can get the orange to work, but the click anywhere doesn't work. It seems to work for other people though, so I just left it up there. Maybe the absence of UAC is messing with the drivers, IDK. I'd rather have the click anywhere over the disable function

I gave up. Reinstalled my old touchpad drivers that have worked for me and reactivated reil's program. Funniest part is that ability to the disable touchpad by double-tapping the top left portion came back. I didn't have it before I attempted the 2-driver installation method.

EDIT: Realized it was because my touchpad's software's tap feature was reactivated. Disabled reil's tap feature. All back to how I want it.

I really don't understand how anyone could choose the old way over this new way. I'm so very happy with the trackpad now that i wonder how anyone could complain but i understand it is a personal preference thing but i just have moine exactly as i'd imagine a great trackpad to be. Maybe give it one more try and get EAFD to work with you as he can help you customize this thing anyway you want.

i am using original drivers with Reil's program and its perfect for me. I prefer taps because they are effortless and clicks are loud. I barely use the right and left click buttons and ignore them. I use the entire pad as a tap once for left click and tap with two fingers for right click. Just wanted to give insight on why some people would prefer this way.

    double-tap means two finger tap.

or two finger click, not click twice/tap twice

Double tap should be a double left click, if you left everything as it was originally

    edit: ninja'd

As for the clicking thing, it's a matter of personal preference. I feel like it really helps, but tapping has its benefits in many areas (one finger click + drag especially). It's something you really need to try to get the right feel of it, though.

I am using the new drivers and use taps as well the same setup you have. 1 tap left click, 2 finger tap right click and i love it. I just never got comfortable with the original way it was to be used.

You can still tap, it's in the instructions. It's the same as the old drivers, only now all lines on the pad are ignored and you can depress anywhere to trigger a click.

Hmm, Reil's envy TouchPad program doesn't seem to work on my Envy 14 Beats Edition, and cites an error regarding the .NET framework and v4.0.30319, though I've already downloaded/installed the corresponding Microsoft Visual C++ 2010. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :)

EDIT: Found the answer earlier in this thread haha! Thanks everyone, and sorry for the pointless post. >_<

The clickpad experience on this laptop is absolutely awful. *shakes head* I love everything about this laptop except for the clickpad. For this alone, I am about ready to send it back. I am sick and tired of the mouse jumping all over the place. Reil's app definitely helps with the two finger scrolling. I just can't ween myself off of the buttons fully, and the stupid button clicks often makes the mouse jump. Why in the world can't I just make the button area a deadzone for scrolling? *sigh*

    you can.

    sort of.

If you update to the latest official drivers and mess with the advanced palm check stuff. so long as you don't have a finger up at the top and move into that zone it'll think the buttons are a deadzone

reil's doesn't check that though/can't know about that though. so..reil's will still two finger scroll if you have a finger sitting in that zone.

    or well lemme rephrase tha.

The advanced palmcheck stuff works like this.

You specify a zone. If anything falls outside of that zone it is ignored unless you have been moving within the zone first or something like that.

reil's ignores advanced palmcheck and still thinks you have a finger on even if it is in the Advanced palmcheck zone (since reil's hasn't been updated and/or you couldn't look at the advanced palmcheck stuff in the synaptics source code)

hello. not sure if this has been answered. tons of pages on this :)

Just bought an E14 Beats edition and it's been great so far (but no radiance screen booooo hp)

Is there a set of synaptic drivers or a setting that will enable me to press a key for a long time AND still have the touchpad not freeze? example: walking in an fps game and looking around (holding W and looking with touchpad). freezing does not occur with ms drivers but the feel isn't as good as synaptics.

Can anyone tell me how to get 2 finger tap as right click? I've installed Windows' driver to allow for disabling the touchpad and then I've installed the driver in this thread. I'm able to 2 finger click, but nothing happens if I just tap.

I don't think I've landed on what I prefer for right clicks, between the hardware button and two finger tap I kinda vacillate.

Huge fan of the chiral scroll though, love zipping around pages with it.

my GOD scrolling is buttery smooth with Reil's app!!!! I first did the broken synaptics drivers first, but after that I've been reading so many forums on my new envy 14 that I never got around to installing his program... amaaaaazing stuff! Lol, now EVERY time I two finger scroll it does it... no more "every other" registering on the touchpad! YOSH!

Sorry I just was blown away how much better the pad is... I'm done now -.-

I have to agree with most posted here but need a little help..

Maybe I am setting it up wrong but I cant enable tapping in synaptics without it placing a double tap everytime I tap the touchpad. What i loose is the ability to tap and drag (which I use a lot). Is it a setup issue???

The gain from reil's in unbelievable!!!! The 2 finger scrolling is amazing.

    It's in the original post.

Turn single-tap click off in Reil's. What happens is single tap in synaptics AND reil's is activated, triggering TWO clicks when a tap event occurs. This make it seem like a double tap. So turn it off in reil's (just single-tap click)

First, I'd to like to mention that I registered just to thank the guys who developed the indescribably improved touchpad drivers--I'm also sad to have found out a while back that Reil will no longer be developing his excellent drivers.

That said, while I do love the new and improved scrolling, multi-finger gestures, etc., there's just ONE lingering issue that I cannot resolve for the life of me... Has anyone else noticed that the two-finger scroll method scrolls WAY TOO fast ONLY in windows explorer? In EVERY other app/window, the scrolling is smooth and proportional to my fingers' movements, but only in explorer (and I DON'T mean Internet Explorer, just to be clear), moving even 1-2mm causes about 12-15 rows of icons (I use tile view) to scroll up and down. For instance, I have a folder containing ~340 files... two-finger scrolling VERY slightly brings me down to about the 80th file.

    Some observations so far:

--I did catch one other member of this forum mentioning this issue, but I can't remember or find where that was.

--I notice that if I use the one-finger scroll via the edge of the trackpad, scrolling is "normal."

--I did disable multi-finger actions in Synaptics completely to ensure that those drivers and Reil's aren't "stacking" and causing a double-scroll.

--So far, AFAIK, it seems to be an issue w/ Reil's driver... when I close Reil's completely and use ONLY the craptastic Synaptics drivers, ALL windows will scroll at reasonable speeds with two-finger scroll. (But I am not willing to trade off Reil's for that)

Here's hoping for a solution, or at least to know that I'm not missing something really obvious because I'm surprised I've found only one other person who's complained about the same issue.

Happens to me, too, but less prominent. The speed is MUCH faster, but I can still scroll one file at a time (detail view)

I am currently using both Reil's and Clickpad14 (not sure who made this but i'm very grateful to you). Trackpad locker is not needed and I am very glad ^^

These are the stuffs I'm able to achieve by having both programs turned on at the same time.
    1. Disable the trackpad by double-tapping the top left zone (can't do with Reil alone).
    2. Able to drag and move icons by clicking down on the bottom left + anywhere in the trackpad (Can't do with Clickpad++ alone).
    3. Able to 2 finger tap to right click (doesn't work well in Reil).

These are the following mods I did
    1. Disable 1,2&3 finger tap in Reil's.
    2. Disable 3 finger scrolling in Reil's (under Actions Tab, both left/right pair and up/down pair).
    2. Disable 2 & 3 finger scrolling in Clickpad++.
    3. Disable 1+1 finger drag in Clickpad++
    4. Max the palm check area in Synaptics Software

Everything else should be the same as default.

Not sure if this has been previously posted, but those of you who are interested you can try it out. Works really well IMO.
