HP is getting ready to roll out the next generation of Pavilion notebooks based on Intel's Ivy Bridge platform.

Thanks lucjuh8 for finding some of these videos!
Thanks Drac for finding some additional information about these notebooks.

Only the dual cores. The quad cores should be out in a couple of weeks and the dv6/7 are mainly quad core (and I'd expect them to be almost entirely quad core with Ivy).

This is not currently known yet; however, it would not be surprising if there will be an Intel HD Graphics 4000 base option with a possible upgrade to the Radeon HD 7750M switchable graphics solution (as noted with the ENVY 15). The graphics cards available for the new series will not be better than what is going to be available for the ENVY series.

Does anyone know if this chipset will support SATA III in all the hard drive bays?

Not sure if thats what controls the speed factor but in the Envy apparently only 1 of the drives supports SATAT III....

I found this but just wanted to confirm it....

Its been months people are talking about the upcomingA codenamed Ivy Bridge line-up of Intel processors. Now the dates for the supporting motherboard chipsets have been announced. The Expected dates for the release are said to be March/April of the next year. Moreover these line up is said to be 7 series Ivy Bridge chipsets.

Following chipsets will be launched in the sequence:

    H77
    Z75
    Z77
The above mentioned chipsets will be featuring:

Integrated Audio Supporting HDMI/DP Audio Output
    Two SATA 6Gbps Ports
    Intel Smart Response Technology
Four USB 3.0 ports and 10 USB 2.0 ports
The H77 chipset will be not supporting the overclocking as identical to H67 chipsets related to Sandy Bridge."

Nice work Justin! Interesting to see they'll be putting an Nvidia G630m inside the dv4 after having all AMD in the current Pavilion lineup. I would expect the release date to be April 29th for the Quad core based laptops, that's what Acer is saying and apparently Lenovo for the V3 and Y580/Y480.

A few dv6 and dv7 models are listed on some Italian websites. The one that gives the most information lists 3xUSB 3.0 ports, a subwoofer for the dv6, (as well as the dv7, of course), and a " midnight black" metal chassis.

630m sounds kind of weak though. The 640m benches that were leaked put it at 555m/6770m performance, so a 630m is probably a downgrade in terms of performance.

It's probably just the "6490m" of the DV6-7xxx series though. Wonder what the high end GPU will be.

    I think the 630M is like a 540M, unfortunately.

Though if the 630M is, like you said, the "6490M" of the next generation, and is the lowest non-integrated GPU offered with a higher option available, that would actually be great.

In my opinion, HP should not be have been offering the 6490M/7470M anyway, because for the most part it's such a useless GPU. It's slightly more powerful than integrated but it's significantly more expensive.

Well, and this is from my standpoint -- the GeForce GT 630M would be a rather significant upgrade to what I currently have (GT 230M). I think Optimus support will most likely be in these notebooks as well. :)

Softpedia says that's when they'll begin to ship, which could be sooner than when they're available for purchase.

I hope they are available on the 8th though. If they do come with current-gen hardware, then my guess is that they kept all the ports in exactly the same positions, so they could just put the old motherboards in the new chassis.

[edit] The ports on the dv4 are obviously positioned differently...

For Singapore, we don't ship laptops. We buy them from retail stores. They are known in the US as quick ship models. Generally quick ship models are ready on the launch date itself. VR-Zone took into account the Singaporean context its readers would expect.

I think the laptops that will be available on April 8(?) are the Ivy Bridge-based laptops, with general delivery occurring approximately 3 weeks from that date. The pictures from VR-Zone (and the Youtube videos) are the new chassis designs for these upcoming IB notebooks (Midnight Black).

There will be no more Sandy Bridge refreshes, based on the evidence that I have dug up. :)

yup, looks like it the backlit key to me. dammit, i knew i should've waited for this. just bought last january and i really wanted the backlit feature like the previous dv6 i had. but the 630m is a downgrade if that indeed is the card they're using.

The GT 630M is intended to replace the HD7470/HD 6490M variant. There will be another card for the more powerful models.

I doubt you will be able to swap out for backlit because you will need power for the keyboard from somewhere, and likely not part of the existing motherboard designs.

I am deeply interested in a Trinity notebook, and I'm sure they'd include an AMD GPU for those. Maybe nVidia for Intel CPU's. Asymmetrical Crossfire is a big selling point with the AMD laptops, despite how finicky it can be with drivers. However Windows 8 drivers seem to have improved on this greatly, so it would be a mistake to not offer an AMD laptop with Radeon GPU.

So, buying the equivalent of today's dv7 with the 2GB ati 7690 in September would be a good deal, right? Counting with the 'back to school' promotions and all?

Or would this 'high-end' model be updated soon after september?

Probably; unless someone has inside information, it's impossible to know. My opinion is that it's unlikely there will be a substantial change within a few months of September, before or after.

Saw your comment Drac, I follow the HP channel but actually missed that they were related to this info. Credit definitely goes to Justinkw1 for digging this up so as you rightfully state should be linked back to. Justin is awesome at finding HP info, he's got a 6th or 7th sense about it so I follow his new threads closely as sources.

You are correct, lucjuh8 - you had posted some of the videos here first and we all appreciate it. Thank you again. :)

I was also looking at the Youtube channel, and also posted videos about the Pavilion g-series notebooks to the first post. The specific details for each notebook were things that I had found while I was browsing through HP's FTP server. More details incoming as more Softpaqs are posted, I'm sure...
