I mean world wide, in most cases, computers are way cheaper and the options are more for customers to choose from. In areas such as Asia, you are very limited to quick ship models and plus they charge you a lot. And especially Singapore, that hub is getting way more and more expensive in a lot of aspects, one would be technology. About 6-8 years ago, I remember arriving at Changi after a $50 flight from HCMC, went straight to Sim Lim Square and picked up some technology stuff for dirt cheap.

Way sky-high, a Crucial SSD made in Singapore, shipped around the world to USA and back can be cheaper than buying locally. How ironic.

the dv6 and dv7's are now availible on hp's website. starting price for dv6 is 900but I configured one with the i7-3610, 2GB gddr5 650m, 8GB RAM, 750GB 7200RPM HD, 32 GB SSD, blu-ray drive, FHD screen, ba keyboard and 2 years accidental damage for USD$1,504 before taxes, a very fair price IMO, I'm getting it soon.

yup, I was considering waiting for the envy's but with this price I think I'm gonna have to go with the dv6. it's got everything I need and more. Just one thing, is the i7-3610 reletively close in performance with the i7-2670?

Doesn't look like there's any 30% coupon on launch of new dv6. HP just switched it over for both:

HP dv6tqe Quad Edition 3rd Gen Ivy Bridge Core i7-3610QM, GeForce GT 650M

HP dv7t Quad Edition 3rd Gen Ivy Bridge Core i7-3610QM, GeForce GT 650M

I see only $50 off coupon.

Probably avoid the GT 630M since it seems like its mystery rebranded chip right now...

    NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M - Notebookcheck.net Tech

    Upgrade options are:

    i7-3720QM - $170
    i7-3820QM - $370

    only GT 650M 2GB in dv7 ($75) while the dv6 has a 1GB for only $25

there's now a "32GB mSSD Hard Drive Acceleration Cache" upgrade for $50 which sounds like it'll work similar to Segate hybrid HDD + SSD.

The first post has been updated with the new dv6 and dv7 product links.

Backlit keyboard option is available for customizable models (+$25).

Also, there are options to have 1 GB or 2 GB of GDDR5 memory for the GeForce GT 650M (+$25 or +$75 from the GT 630M, respectively).

Are there any news about the EU price of the new dv6? Besides the 900$ starting model i also like the 1200$ quick ship model. That would be a bit over 900€. Can I expect it to be in this range?

As for Optimus, no Idea but it would be safe to assume so, Ivy Bridge has turbo, just go look at intel's spec sheets, this is for the 3610QM:
Intel® Core? i7-3610QM Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.30 GHz)

I had the chance to tinker around with the display set. Very plasticky feeling. The 650M has GDDR5 that runs at 4000MHz. The full HD antiglare screen is the same as the one on the 6000 series. Build quality is not stellar.

^ I should be able to mod the hell out of this unit when I have it in hands :D ! Just either this or Lenovo Y580

For anyone wonder about backlit keyboard. You will be able to buy replacement and swap it easily.
By the way is the 32GB SSD mSATA or is it a hybrid drive

The 650m is only $25 more than the 630m? I have a feeling there are going to be a ton of prebuilt systems in retail stores with the 630m in order to get rid of them lol.

4000MHz or 4GHz effective. HP wants to cash in on the ENVY line by excluding subtle parts from DV series.

So a base dv6 with FHD and the GT 650M 1gb costs ~$1,000 USD, including a $250 coupon and free upgrades to 8gb ram and a Blue-ray drive - i.e. in-line with their standard pricing of these models.

So if I want those 2 specs in Canada it'll probably be $1,300+ due to pre-configured models, I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but I can always hope...

Nvidia cards should have optimus. If not, I believe you can download software to enable this feature

Woohoo ordered. Yeah the discount isn't spectacular right now but its brand new and only about $150 more than the previous version I had specced out so I'm happy enough. In case anyone was looking, their student site has it for about $50 cheaper, I think all you need is a .edu email. I went the other route and custom ordered through Costco for about $50 more, 90 return policy and extended 2 year warranty for that though. Can't wait to get this thing in.

I had a very bad experience with the previous quad DV6 and the GPU died on me after the year's warranty. I do hope QC is improved and the current features appear attractive enough. With acadmic discone (3-4%) plus the $250 they offer- you can configure with the 1920x1080 screen, 650m 1gb, backlit keyboard for $1059.49- the Clevo ER does not have an open msata (additional msata or possible egpu), no back lit keyboard- but with the same other features at $1196 with 3% cash off. What is the msata and backlit keyboard worth? Customer support directly from Sager is poor and from HP is always a mixed bag. Support from some of the Sager resellers who don't pass warranty service to Sager is great. But the ER model has the option of a 2nd HDD w/o swapping the ODD.

It will tip me over if the 650m is gdrr5 variant and not the ddr3 for it's memory. Any info on this?

Is 1gb GDDR5 good enough, or is everyone opting for 2gb for the 650m? Also, is the 32Gb acceleration cache worth getting? I just want to run Guild Wars 2 smoothly at medium to high settings
