Hey guys I am super excited for these new laptops! I need to upgrade my old, but scrappy dv6 for something that can play the upcoming GW2 comfortably on at least low/medium settings. Will they be similarly costed to what you can get on the site now for 700-800 bucks? Any idea on an ETA?

Unofficially it looks like the starting price will be $750, but remember that's for the lowest cpu, gpu, minimum ram (which is probably still 6-8 which is plenty), the non hd screen, etc. So with that said, you will probably have the gt630 which paired witht the basic screen, should be alittle more then fine in runing gw2 in low to medium. In fact you could probably stay towards the higher end medium settings exept when doing world v world, which u might want to drop to low. But even withouth the hd screen id recomend paying extra for the gt650 if at all possible, its a big big improvment on performance. And yes, i am also really looking forward to gw2, it will be great.
-
Thanks! I may just have to do that!
-
Just remember that that pricing was never confermend.
-
Yeah I just wanted to get a feel for it. I guess it's still not expected for another month or so?
-
Also pretty excited about GW2. This looks like one of the few upcoming mainstream laptops that have perfect specs to handle gaming.
-
Sorry, should have added that I'll be ordering Sun/Mon. Lenovo is out, they pushed the Y580 back to June. Dell maybe, but lately they have had poor customization so I'm not a fan. I found one Sager around the same budget over at Xotic that seems the next best option.
I'm fairly sold on the HP, I'm writing this on my current laptop from them and its doing well. Really just trying to see if there were any major leaks/previews I had missed that might make me reconsider. -
Quite a few sources say Sunday it will be available in the US. Idk if that means on their online store for customization, in retail stores, or just quick ship models, but that's what we're waiting to see.
-
I need some input on upgrading the screen on dv6. I want to get the normal 1366x768 then upgrade to matte 95% gamut by myself. Anyone has hardware maintenance PDF ? Anyone know the connector layout ?
-
You AMD fans might want to check this out ;-)

battery life seems a bit worse, although I usually don't see Windows 7 integrated meter as an accurate tool for measuring battery life (maybe that's just my experience) .
Enjoy

According to Cnet-Asia review, the 650m Gddr5 achieved 52.88 fps in Dirt 3 (High,4x,1080p),so comparing there result to this:
[MSI GT780R] DiRT 3 (Core i7-2630QM, 16GB RAM, GTX 560M 1.5GB) - YouTube
basically (GTX 560m high,4x,1080p)=53.83
we can see that the gt650m is proving itself more and more as an equivalent in performance for the 560m : ) -
not bad..... 3 hours of furmark and at 26C ambient those are descent max temps, don't know why alot of people kept saying Ivy would go beyond 90C at simple tasks : |
-
oh missed that
-
You realize that furmark stresses the GPU, not the CPU, right?
-
Run Prime95 large FFT and get your temp results.
-
ah sorry I though it stresses both.... you see because whenever I run something big on my old dv5 both CPU and GPU light up lol
so I perceived it as being a stress to both... I'm waaay behind the modern times
Still... at least this proves that GPU's max temp is good(61C).... guess we just reviewer to run Prime95 on it then :/ -
There is some load on the CPU since it feeds the GPU, but 100% on the GPU with furmark.
-
Asus N56VZ has all you want, the GT650m is ddr3, but if hp only have 1366x768 like in my country...i prefer asus VZ instead of hp dv6
-
Does the dv6 have backlit keyboard ?
-
Most likely not, CNET Asia referred to the keyboard as a Backlit one in their review.
-
certain models do, certain models don't... but it seems dv7 will have the majority of them
-
So that's a yes or no >< . And I'm referring to pre configured models only. I read some sites and they said it's 'optional'

well considering the one they got was pre-configured standard model(there are no custom options yet), then I guess the answer would be yes
-
For preconfigured,it will just be on various models
-
What is the date for the official release?
-
Should be April 29 according to some sources, I remember someone posted a link or actually said that HP in Singapore said April 29 would be the release date
I'm guessing this is the case for plenty of laptops with IB. -
Here's the link https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150666810978908.414913.345956643907&type=3
You shouldn't get excited though because I don't think that's the European/US release date as well...
NotebookItalia reported several weeks ago that the dv6 should be starting sales in Italy only on May 1st. -
I think I'm leaning toward this unit
, can't wait to heavily mod this thing with better cooling, non glossy bezel along with a 95% gamut matte screen. Hopefully I can grab one with a coupon in July
-
Google Translate
Ok this is better ,here they did a test with MobileMark 2007 and achieved 5 hours of battery and still had 30% remaining that sounds good
-
good to hear
also
more proof of dv6 backlit keyboard
-
Does anyone think there will be a touch screen option? HP advertised a touchscreen DV6-6000 but it was never released. Windows 8 benefits from a touch screen.
-
i dont think anyone has heard of a dv with touchscreen so far
-
I doubt it, using a touchscreen on a standard form factor laptop is very awkward (trust me, I have a tm2, I only use the touch in tablet mode). Dell tried it and that option didn't last long.
There was a leak today about HP slates coming out, I think they'll focus on these and AIO for touchscreen computing. Business-minded HP 'Slate 8' tablet surfaces in leaked image -- Engadget -

We're lucky we are getting a backlit keyboard, a touchscreen is asking wayyyy too much from HP, lol. -
There was a touchscreen option for the dv6-3000 models. iirc it was only 768p though.
-
The first of the new series starting to show up in my country's shops:
no Ivy+GT 650m though
also I'm trying to figure out how does the new G6 have HD 4000 if it's CPU is still 2nd gen.
gonna send them an e-mail to see if the faster models are coming
ps: don't be surprised at the high prices, high customs and Taxes take a hit where I'm from :/ -
Hands-on with the new HP Pavilion G6
HP Pavilion G6 2000 (2012 ed.) - YouTube
CPU options:
- Intel Pentium dual-core, Core i3, i5, i7 Sandy Bridge (there are shortages of Ivy Bridge CPUs so they'll ship with SB at the beginning)
- AMD Llano A4, A6, A8
- AMD Trinity starting from june -
how does the 650M compare to 6770M or 7690M XT?
-
Judging by 3dmark scores, it's 40%-50% faster.
-
really? that much?
-
the gt 650m competes with gtx 560m in performance. the 6770m competes with gt 555m they are in two different leagues
-
So I guess it's better to wait till the new models with the 650M are released instead of buying one with a 6770M.
-
yes if u plan on gaming the 650m is something u should wait for
-
Shall see the news tmr or Tuesday

The only question is if it's going to be much more expensive or not? I'm thinking of getting one and i'm not sure if the refresh si going to fit into my budget. I saw for around 700 euro a dv6 with sb i7 qm,6770n,8gb ram,500gb hdd and just a regular hd screen. How much do you think it's going to cost the 650m version?
-
It'll be around the same price as when the dv6tqe-6000 launched. So I'm guessing in the $900-$1000 range with 1080p and the 650m, after 30% coupon.
-
Spotted in retail: DV6-7009TX @ SGD1699.
i7-3610QM with GT630M. Not worth IMHO. -
No where computer is cheaper other than in the U.S
-
I mean you compare the previous model pricing at 1199 vs 1699.
