To Anna at HP Total Care,
I have a Compaq C304NR with Waikiki audio. I am using the work around which has solved some problems. Will there be a decicated Vista driver for the C300 Series? Thanks! -
Bump - Has anyone noted any change since the Bios Update?
I updated the drivers from the links at the beginning of the thread, and it did not work anymore, had to system restore, but Mic is still Pony. -

I have done the things HP told me to do.. The sound works when I have earphones plugged in. But not through the speakers.. When I remove the earphones there is a split second of sound from the speakers. So something is going through.. Anyone knows how to fix this? its a HP DV1000 Waikiki

Ok I have installed Vista 64 Business on my dv5214us that says "Windows Vista Capable" on it's sticker... I have tried every fix that i could find using google only one worked for the duration of my log on, the one where you go into cmd and type Bcdedit.exe –set nointegritychecks ON. However I can not get this to work again. HP has had almost a year to make a patch that works for this problem I'm not a Software Engineer but I higly doubt that it takes a year to make a driver. In dealing with such lack of support for their loyal customers(My last 3 laptops were HP) it makes one want to never use HP again. There is support for the driver in 32 bit mode but why would i have paid the extra $ for a 64 bit processor if I can't even use it and have sound at the same time. I am just asking for a simple driver or even a workaround that takes care of the probem and does not affect my performance.

I have an HP dv8000 with AMD Turion 64, just upgraded to 64-bit Vista, and I get the same sound error others have complained about: "No audio output device installed". Device Manager lists the following for my hardware ID (which is not among the options listed in Anna's original post):
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_309B103C&REV_02
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_309B103C
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&CC_040100
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&CC_0401
I have scoured this forum and others for a fix to this and tried a few of the drivers people say worked for them on other machines, but to no avail. HP does not have a driver for this model.
Your help and suggestions would be most appreciated!

Hello everyone:
I recently bought a compaq F730US with vista home premium , loved it at first but when i realised that I could not use my mic really annoyed me, i have read all the posts here, and decided to register to say a couple things:
Ive seen the posts from ANNA at hp total care....the only useful advice she gave in my situation was to flash the bios, and that didnt fix the mic problem!
Ive seen the links other posters provided as a "fix", they didnt work for me, and I didnt notice a ton of other people saying it worked for them either, one thing Ive learned in the 10 years of being online is dont believe anything based on what someone types in a chat forum...VERIFY FIRST! I thank my lucky stars the "fix" wasnt a virus or worse.
Ok, before i go off on a tangent, let me explain what I think a bunch of folks on here are probably trying to say:
With win2000pro and XP, you used to be able to adjust your mic in and sound out (be it thru speakers or mono out or stereo mix or wave mix) so,,you could hear yourself thru your speakers as a sort of mic check; people that use voice chat and play music know what Im talking about and folks that use skype and yahoo voice chat..Im have a internet radio station so my ability to use my microphone during a broadcast is kinda important.
OK, that being said....
VISTA AND CONEXANT HD AUDIO HAVE TAKEN THAT ABILITY AWAY!!!!!
Im sorry, was that loud? oh well
I cant wait till my sony vaio gets fixed, it has win2000 pro on it, and it worked flawless for me for almost 7 years.
Ok, if ANNA reads this, this is the message i want her to relay back to her engineerinng folks that may or may not be working on the problem.
THE VISTA MIXER ALLOW US TO EITHER USE THE MIC OR WAVE OUT, BUT NOT AT SAME TIME! IF WE USE ONE THE OTHER MUST BE DISABLED.....THAT ISNT THE WAY IT USED TO BE, WE WANT THAT FEATURE TO HAVE THE SAME FLEXIBILTY AS IT DID IN WINDOWS2000/PRO AND XP/PRO....AND NO FLASHING THE BIOS DOES NOT WORK TO INSTALL A FEATURE THAT WAS NEVER THERE TO BEGIN WITH!!! I betcha they forgot about making the sound card FULL DUPLEX. -
I have an HP DV8000T system and even though I never had the opportunity to test the SPDIF connection when I had windows XP on my system, I upgraded my system to Vista Ultimate.
Since I completed the upgrade I went into the Audio settings and the only option that I have is Stero and NO SPDIF. I thought that it might only be activated when I put the TOSLINK mini-adapter in, but after purchasing one......no dice, and now I have no option to even turn it on and Vista Media Center only give me the option for 2 speakers.
I have been working on different drivers for over 2 weeks now with no luck. The digital light does not even activate. I know that on some of the HP system they have a seperate SPDIF port, but my computer has them combined. I have regular audio but was hoping that SP1 would resolve this issue, but after installing it.....again no dice. Is there anyone out there that has an answer for this of am I going to be just left in the dark?
I have tried all the fixes listed on this Thread and I know Anna has been giving her input, but I am beginning to get extremely frustrated becuase I have over 100 movies on hard drives, a $1200 stero, 65" TV, but 2-speaker audio. PLEASE HELP!!!!! -
Hey all- I Have been scouring the internet to try and figure out my problem with my audio driver issues. A lot of the posts here describe exactly what I am seeing. Apparently, there isn't a fix yet?
I recently performed an update through the HP update program running on my dv9230 (Venice). The audio was working fine up until this point. Now, the Conexant driver (SP35849) update won't install and it keeps falling back to the Generic MS Driver.
When I run the setup, I get a Windows error that says, "Driver installation Module stopped working and was closed." If I try and install it by going through the device manager and choosing "Upgrade Driver" and pointing to the new driver install dir, I get a different error saying that there was an error installing the driver followed by, "The extended attributes are inconsistent."
When I look at the system log, I see that DrvInst.exe is crashing when I try and install the driver.
The MS Driver seems to work (I have sound), but I have to turn the volume up full blast to get any sort of decent volume. Even with headphones, I need to turn it up all the way.
BTW - I upgraded the BIOS and that didn't help.
Has anyone managed to get this to work? -
Hello all, I have a "Vista capable" HP DV2111tx with a Conexant "Waikiki" audio chip. Last week I upgraded to Vista X64. Everything works ok, with the exception of SPDIF - there isn't any digital output device!!
I installed the driver present on HP's website: 3.38.0.50 A (04.2007). This allows setting "digital out" in a tab, and this sends stereo audio via the optical SPDIF jack - however I can't get DTS/AC3 passthrough.
I have the x64 version for ffdshow and media player classic. I also tried all flavors of players (x86 and x64) - including WMP.
I contacted HP and I got this answer:
"The Beta driver that we provided 1 year ago is the one that is now posted on hp.com (it is an actual driver now and not Beta).
HP doesn't have any plans to support SPDIF in the near future.
My recommendation is that if you need this functionality, you can search for external USB SPDIF solution on the internet (they are available)."
I find this totally unacceptable. Does anyone else have a solution?
Thank you. -

It looks like the same issues are reappearing again. Can anyone help? It is real deal killer having the microphone working for skype. -
I have same problem with HP Pavilion dv6820ea notebook.
I'm shocked by the incompetence of hp support who pretend they've never heard of this issue, and have made a big deal of demanding my home address, rather than even clarifying the problem ! (i.e. focus on issues that are unimportant)
Did this ever get resolved ?
I have Conexant audio DEV_5051 and up-to-date drivers. Only clue may be that Hermosa drivers are installed, yet I wonder of this chip may be Venice ?
