By doing this, rather than uninstalling as per my post, you may have left some registry entries pointing to Chdart.sys.

I followed cursedzerox's instructions from page 7 of this thread and then installed the sp1 full update (not through windows update) without any issues on my HP DV6000. The install took less than 45 minutes and had no issues with the sound or anything else. I've noticed no improvements in speed at this point. But, I've only been working with it for about 2 hours now.

Had a Windows Update waiting for me, and it's...! Some Windows Defender update, not SP1. Disappointing.

Okay i finally updated to x64 SP1 using standalone installer (720mb). Installation went quite well even though i have a problematic driver. I will report back if something goes wrong or buggy

Weird thing is instead of loosing HD space. I gained 10gb more!

    Also finally overclocking.. =D

Your problem driver was the Conexant audio one? And your sound still works fine?

That's the only thing stopping me from using the stand alone. Every one of my drivers is fine except for Conexant being 4.19 and not newer than 4.32. The only thing I can see happening is losing sound (which is pretty bad), but I guess something else could happen?

yeah its day 2 now.. working better than ever.

I used the standalone even with an outdated problematic conexant driver. I had 4.19 but windows update offered me 4.26. The requirement was 4.32

I didnt loose any sound function at all which is good. Nearly done testing everything and all seems perfectly working

I cant guarantee you will get the same results though.

Thanks -I did it with the CHART64.sys and CHDRT64.sys files as I'm with vista 64. Worked great and after two update checks I saw sp1 listed for thr first time. You should get a medal! I would never have tried this. Best, Jim

Windows Update finally gave me the Conexant Audio driver 4.36. I had already installed SP1 using the standalone package (with no problems), but those of you who were waiting for Update to provide it should now be alright.

When I installed the new conexant audio driver it caused my speakers to stop working so I had to roll it back...

The latest versions of the Conexant HD Audio drivers are posted on Windows Update and appear as Optional updates.

If you do not find a driver newer than v4.32 please e-mail me your PnP ID and I will check on the status.

After downloading and installing Vista SP1 (it never did show up in Windows Update) I recovered 17GB of free disk space.

Its okay i installed the standalone SP1 even with the problematic drivers and it worked out very well for me.

A new conexant driver was released on WU just 3 days ago. Unforunately this isnt even the right driver for my audio card!

The new service pack clears out all the temporary caches (system restore, superfetch, etc). So expect for the free space to go back down overtime

It gave me back exactly 10gb aswell but after a week or two, the temporary caches get filled up again. Its not a bad thing..

Last night I installed the SP1 standalone package in DV2500T notebook and everything went good atleast that what it looks like. However I noticed one minor thing that might be a screw up or it is in SP1. I noticed that under Balanced power option the cpu's frequency stays at 2.0GHz most of the time even notebook is idle. So my questions are: does that suppose to happen? or anybody having that problem? Is there any workaround or anything? Thanks in advance.

Sorry too many quesetions in post... :)

    Spec:

    Intel Core2 Duo T7300 2.0GHz
    2.0 Gig of Ram
    Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premimum
    160Gig hard drive

What app are you running to determine this? Run CPU-Z and see if it is indeed throttling (if you have not already)...

I looked it under performance monitor and it shows CPU frequency 98-99% most of the time. and because of that fan is running constantly.

here are the pictures which show the 0% cpu usage but cpu runs at the higher frequency. Also i checked in task manager and looks like nothing is eating the cpu cycles. but still cpu runs at 2.0Ghz most of the time.

Go into advanced settings in the Balanced power scheme and see if minimum processor state is on 5% like mine.

Also try going to Power Saver and then back to balanced to see if there is any difference.

In advanced setting under balanced power scheme, minimum processor state was 100%. So I changed it to 5% like yours. But still CPU frequency is at 99%. Also I tried the power saving scheme and cpu goes to its minimum frequency but not in balanced power scheme.

It sounds like the settings in Balanced got completely botched somehow. What about resetting Balanced back to default?

Do you have the latest BIOS? I've heard of SpeedStep problems before in Vista like you are experiencing, and it has pointed to BIOS issues in some circumstances. Even reinstalling Windows can have the same result.....

I have F.25 which is the only one shows on HP website. So I believe that its the latest bios unless there is a new version for DV2500T model. and yes you are right I tried reinstalling windows with Sp1 and stll the problem exist.

yea it was working fine. In idle condition cpu used to go to its minimum frequency but after sp1 install it doesn't anymore. i thought sp1 was suppose to solve problems not create new one.

SP1 must be conflicting with something on your system. I'd either use custom settings for Power Saver or uninstall SP1 until they have a patch for this.

I still don't see SP1 for my dv2315nr. I have installed all other updates both important and optional. I have also download the latest drivers from HPs website.

    When can I expect SP1?

I think WU checks for CHDRT32.sys.
I have these in the drivers folder:
    CHDART.sys 4.15
    CHDAud.sys 3.38
    CHDRT32.sys 4.36.7

when I checkin device manager I get 3.38 installed. WU however let's me update to SP1. I still havent tried installing it since my device still has 3.38. i don't want to get the blue screen (again) for trying to get it without the right drivers.
