Whoa. That's a NEW driver from HP! That must mean they finally got their act together and released a driver! I'll try it out too.
The current version they have on the support site is version 1.00.1.1 A. The version you linked to is 1.00.1. 2 A.

-
yeah, don't they do a GREAT job of advertising it? and its not just a driver, but a firmware update for the camera itself.
-
OK, I tried this on Vista 64bit, and I didn't see any difference. However, let me explain the situation.
With HP drivers:
The webcam works fine in skype, but I could not get it working in dorgem. Dorgem is an older program, and might not work with vista at all though.
With the acer drivers:
I had the same results, worked in skype, not in dorgem.
So I decided to stick with the HP drivers for now and blame it on dorgem. -
No matter what i try to do with this piece of crap it doesn't work.
New driver works once in quickplay, then i try to use it in trillian and thats the end of that. Tells me it's not plugged in (Impossible of course). Then it won't work in quickplay anymore.
I'm literally about to tear this webcam out and burn it. -
I am having the same webcam/aim problem on my new dv6500t. A week ago, I called HP and they gave me the std crap, re-install Vista, etc.... after 30 minutes, I got them to look at this thread to see all the users with the HP webcam issue. HP said, hey just down load the driver in the thread and you should be OK. But I pushed them, I said I want an official fix from HP. They opened a case number, sent it to the dev team and said they will get back in touch with me.
A few days later they callled and wanted to close the ticket since they were working on a fix. I said NO, lets close it after I get the fix and it works.
I"ll keep ya'lll posted..... -
good job! sounds like you got them by the balls. don't let go until this thing works!

Hi DV9548CA,
Thanks for the info. I read the installl notes for the driver link the HP tech gave you. The install notes say: "The SoftPaq checks to determine if the notebook has been upgraded from a Microsoft Windows XP Operating System to a Microsoft Windows Vista Operating System. If the notebook operating system has been upgraded, the firmware is installed. If the notebook operating system has not been upgraded, the firmware is not installed"
Question: Was your laptop upgraded from XP to Vista, or was it built with vista?
-
those drivers don't work. I tried them. I wish they did...plus I checked the file dates on them and a lot of the fiels date back to 2006.
-
the link about the driver or waterever didnt seem to work (the one from hp), installed, and it didnt seem to do anything xD
hope hp gives a fix soon -
the guys whos webcams are giving problems, have you tried restarting and trying to use the cam immediately after that ? cause when i do that it works..
-
Thanks! This worked for the Toshiba Satellite A200 Chicony Integrated Webcam being able to work with MSN Messenger Live.
Awesome! -
Thats hardly a solution to do every time you want to use the webcam though. -
i totally agree but it works temprarily till HP can get their act together...
-
By the way, I had this laptop for a couple of months before installing Live Messenger. During that time, I never had a problem with the webcam starting (although I had an issue with fast playback which HP resolved - see my posting on page 3). I'm still not sure if this is solely a driver/Vista issue, or if the instant messenger software is somehow implicated -
HP called and said to update my BIOS, I told them it was already at the latest level, HP said to reinstall BIOS anyways, so I did. HP also said to re-install the HP webcam driver from recovery, so I did. Neither of those things made my webcam work.
So I called HP back to say that did not work and how is the new driver coming along. HP has now changed their story, they say that since the webcam is working with quickplay, that the webcam is OK and they do not care that it does not work with any other app!!!! I told HP that all my other apps work with an eternal webcam but not the internal HP webcam, and that proves that my apps work with a working webcam. No matter what question I ask or what I say, all HP keeps saying is "your HP webcam working properly". I was talking with a HP support supervisor and he said he would have a manager call me back.
-
Latest update from HP support, they now want me to install this MS fix:
A USB device may no longer work correctly after Windows Vista resumes from sleep or from hibernation: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928631/
Problem is after I got off the phone with HP, I realized that my webcam problem occurs even if the laptop has not been in sleep or hiberantion. I thought this MS KB info may help some of you though.
I am starting to get the feeling that HP is not really working on a new driver. -
HP sucks ass. I bought my laptop in November last year. Since it was Vista ready I thought that all drivers need would be out and ready for me when I upgraded to Vista i April but so far I have been disappointed with HP and their drivers.
-
I have a HP HDX and talk with friends in msn live mesenger with camera and i have no problems.( yet ? )
-
nice!! a fix for the damned HP webcam...
Although it is frustrating to have to restart my computer everytime my webcam decides to quit randomly in the middle of a webcam chat with my girlfriend, I have to stick with the restart method. It's just my luck sucks with installing new drivers. (i'm a tech n00b).
Anyways, to those who now have worry-free webcams, enjoy!! -
Here is the IFFY solution I found to using the built in HP WEBCAM with Yahoo Messenger on my DV9500t notebook.
I use ManyCam ( www.download.com) so that I can use my built in HP Webcam with Yahoo Messenger. After installing ManyCam double click on the icon in the system tray and it should start the built in Webcam if setup correctly(the blue light comes on). Then load Yahoo Messenger and click to invite your webcam for someone to view. It should pop up and ask you for a SOURCE. Choose ManyCam as the source and NOT HP webcam then click Apply and Okay.
The problem is that you need to do this everytime you want to use the HP webcam on Yahoo Messenger. It works better then nothing yet still sucks to have to do that. I am wondering why Yahoo Messenger is having such a difficult time finding the webcam? Do I need to register it with Windows Vista Premium under the Scanners and Cameras? I don't even where the driver would be found.
Does it need the Microsoft USB hotfix? -
I don't know, but ManyCam looks pretty suspect. There are a lot of reviews on Download.com from people wondering why ManyCam is trying to access remote IP's, monkeying with the firewall, and so forth.
Hmm... -
after being convinced to give it a try after stating that i wouldn't do it....i did it and so far so good....i'm on the webcam everyday about 2+ hours talking to my girlfriend and prior to installing this solution, my webcam would disconnect an hour or so into the conversation...after this solution, i ahevnt been disconnected once...thanks to the OP!!

hey guys, u all tried wt dylan suggested on an hp notebook. i have a problem with my toshiba A200-10w notebook. i get an error that the "Camera is Locked By Another Application" even if nothing is running on the pc, and this happens for no apparent reason. sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. i have windows vista home premium.
any suggestions?? thanks in advance. take care -
Thanks a lot to the author of the thread!
I have Toshiba U300 and the suggested fix worked like a charm. Before there were endless "Camera is Locked By Another Application" problems, now I can access my web camera any moment I want and it works!
And shame on Toshiba and HP! -
it works......... it wooooooooooorks yepeeeeee thanx alooooooot
-
Hey! Nothing like cheating an OS. Now Vista thinks I'm running an Acer webcam - that's a smart solution. Wonder who was the first who had patience to try every driver from a different supplier. At least, if he was doing it alphabetically, he found the good one in his first attempts... Anyway, if it was you, DylanBennett, congratulations!
So, that to say "thank you" and to let you know the Acer Driver solution worked with my one month old HP Pavillion dv6525en. (The other solution I tried unsucessfully was the patch.)
I bet HP won't recognize the best and only solution is to use another company's driver. But they should! Instead of claiming they can fix it...
Oh, this awful capitalistic mentality... -
My webcam has been working with no fail till the other day.. it suddenly started giving me those "webcam being used by another program errors". I temporarily fixed it by un/reinstalling the drivers. It would usually give me the errors again after 2-3 restarts/boot-ups.
Im guessing its one of the programs that i installed since it was fine beforehand. Cant exactly pinpoint which program it is but it is clashing with the webcams
Anyway i tried the method on this thread and its working very well so far. Thanks to Dylan and his research. -
I have a dv9005us model. The solution that works so well for the most of users here does not work for me. As another user reported earlier, after installing acer drivers I receive a message stating that device fails to start (error code 10).
does this mean that i have a different built-in webcam? any thoughts? -
Thanks for the solution. Working for my 9500 so far. Appreciate the work!
-
I'm tried installing these drivers on my girlfriends computer but instead of getting a black screen it's grey. Everything is grey. It's definitely not a Richo driver cause if didn't recognize the Richo drivers when installing them but it has no problems with these acer drivers. Can anyone please lend me a hand? I followed the instructions perfectly.
I really want to get this to work. I'd really appreciate the help. The camera used to be listed as a USB 2.0 Camera under imaging devices but now it's the Acer Crystal Eye. Before in MSN when trying to access the camera it would say nothing was detected or saying that no cameras were detected. Now I don't get writing but a grey screen.
Please someone help me -
it worked for me!!
thanks alot =) -
sp34746.exe for HW ricoh 1810
try it -
Is this post directed at me?? -
EGM92: Are you sure your camera is a chicony camera?
If the Acer drivers dont work at all then im guessing your best off with the HP drivers or the one that actually work.
Ive used this driver for over a week now and its definately a permanent fix. My webcam works 24/7 with no fail. I checked when starting up and before shutting down -
My webcam always showed up as an HP pavillion or HP 1000 Webcam, hers on the otherhand when it came from the store, it still said USB 2.0 CAMERA.
What drivers exactly should I use from HP? I've attempted using the ones on the HP webpage for both XP and Vista and no luck with those. Is there any way to be 100% sure it's not Ricoh?
Thanks -
Are you sure the ricoh drivers your installing arent the drivers for the memory card readers?
The only ricoh drivers i have is for the memory card reader and ive never heard of a ricoh webcam as far as i know. The HP webcam drivers i have has chicony on it aswell. Have you surfed through ur SWSetup folder? -
My webcam is a Ricoh and I'm 100% positive that they make webcams. Here's a screenshot.
http://i21.tinypic.com/snf3hf.jpg
The DV2000 on the otherhand I don't know who makes the camera. -
No one knows any solution to my problem?
-
sorry.. cant help you. Youll have to look for the ricoh drivers yourself or try contacting HP, just incase they have something hidden up their sleeve
Other machines like sony vaio use ricoh webcams aswell. they might work.. -
Dylan
I just purchased a HP Touchsmart IQ770 for the Kitchen It is a Great device but the fact that the Web Cam would not work period was just about driving me crazy! I have a Eyebeam Softphone package that connects to asterisk Phone Switch in Basement, I have been using Laptops with USB web cam for quite some time for HomeBrew Video Phone & Confrencing. Wanted to use the above HP IQ770 Device as it is very pretty!
I had tried a few diff HP drivers! But your Acer Chicony Find is a Great Fix!
To bad that HP has thus far left a void for these devices in their support!
Kudos! and many thanx for the Post.

Hey... I tried what you posted up and everything seemed to be going fine, until I directed my webcam to the driver. at the end of the installation it said "device cannot start," and i got a yellow exclamation mark by my webcam, which is now assigned to the acer driver. can you help?? thanks a lot i really appreciate it
-
are you sure you have a chicony webcam?
Rollback to your previous one if the Acer drivers dont work. You can also use the Windows Generic Drivers which is > USB Camera 2.0 -
