This problem should be solved after installing Microsoft hotfix KB913812
-
-
Can someone please link to this KB913812 hotfix PLEASE?!! I can't find anything on the MS site that would be remotely related to webcam/usb.
-
I tried installing the Chicony drivers as well as all the possible hp webcam drivers on the HP site. I believe I have a ricoh webcam, however theres nothing i can do to start the webcam...i have the yellow exclamation mark under my "hp webcam" in device manager. no drivers seem to work, reflashing the bios solved my problem...until i had to restart....now im back on step 1. Anyone have any ideas? thanks in advance
-
hi, i have probably the same problem... my webcam works but not via skype or messenger.... i installed web cam driver from hp site version 1.00A... try that!!
-
As another user suggested, I downloaded the driver found at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...item=ob-52194-1&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN&ts=true
and the webcam seems to be functioning fine.
I have an HP Pavillion dv9500 running Windows Ultimate 64 bit.
Best of luck, -
unfortunately it dosent work with the DV9628US :-( NOthing but the quickplay works with it. this machine has been a nightmare I should have stuck with the Lenovo, At least then when I threw it across the room the HD would protect its self
lol

I have Toshiba A200 (PSAF6A-02Q01N). I have the same same USB failure problem as well: "graph render fail" message shows up after I resume from sleep and try to turn on the webcam. In addition to that, my fingerprint reader is not immediately available after the login window shows up; I usually have to wait for... 3 seconds for it to be activated. Also, my built-in bluetooth device (also USB-connected) sometimes fail (est. p=0.05 to 0.10).
I think it's all to do with the Vista system. I've submitted a form to request for the USB device hotfix. I hope it will fix the problem. -
Dylan rocks! I can't believe it, though I should by now. Another problem HP can't solve - solved.
My question for Dylan is, How did you ever find out that the camera was made by Chicony? Device Manager reported to me that the manufacturer was Microsoft. Yeah, sure.
My wife had a good idea. If HP had any smarts at all they'd hire at least one person whose whole job was to Pareto HP's tech problems each day. Start with the highest one, and search the web for the solution.
In addition, HP ought to have a contest where they would offer prizes for solutions they found on the web and adopted. Then have a once a year Grand Prize where they'd bring the Grand Prize winner (chosen somehow from all the solution winners) to California for an all expenses paid week. Heck, give 'em a car and offer them a job. All of the above would probably cost less than what they're spending now to try and find solutions, or what they're loosing in sales due to customer dissatisfaction for them NOT finding solutions.
Oh, well. Too much to hope that they'd be rationale. -

Thank you very much!!!
It also worked for me!
I have a pavillion dv 6338t (white) -
Awsome!!!
Worked with my DV2000 ... aka DV2415us
I needed this to get yahoo messenger web cam working.
The drivers from HP does not support the needed RGB24 color compression and size.
The Acer driver gives the option.
Easy install.. and Yahoo Messenger 8.1 and 9.0 Beta worked right away.. I tested my other video apps.. including HP Webcam and they all work.
Thanks for figuring this out. -
Hey guys I have great news about the webcam issues with vista. Like everyone else my webcam was not working but now it seems to work perfectly with Quickplay and yahoo msgr. I received this procedure from HP today and it worked for me.
1. uninstall the current webcam driver from device mgr
2. restart system
3. download this webcam driver set
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp35501-36000/sp35813.exe
execute the file and follow on-screen instructions
4. go to the WIA windows image acquistion. double click to open it
5. stop the service and start it again
6. select start up type as automatic. click ok
7. check installed updates and make sure KB915597 is NOT installed. if it is uninstall it. (my pc did not have this update)
8. go back to the device mgr for the webcam.
9. update driver> let me choose> show a list to select from> usb video device> select driver. driver is usbdevice.sys
End
open quickplay select the video icon. USB device should be listed in the source column. double click and BOOM webcam is now working. I also noticed that there was a webcam icon in the my task bar. telling me my webcam was working properly. after that it disappeared.
Mine works with quickplay and yahoo msgr w/o any problems. Woohoo!!
Hope this resolves most of the issues with non working webcams. -
-
press the windows key + R then type "services.msc" and press enter.
Under services double click windows image acquisition. -
thanks for that SBR iv done that but the update KB915597 is on my system but invisable it says once its installed it cannot be removed???
Any ideas please
PS i have done the rest of the guide and do have a usb devive icon but the screen is still black when i click on the camera button it takes a pick and can be seen even though the screen is black -
Here is what HP sent concerning the security update.
go to control panel
open programs and features
click on the option to list all d/l'd updates
under the list choose the kb915597
right click on the update and select uninstall
use the native vista driver to resolve this issue
end.
judging by the steps you should be able to uninstall. luckly i did not see this update on my 2 week old notebook. now I will monitor updates so this will not install w/o me knowing it.
ok found info...its a windows defender update for spyware and such. hopefully someone can help with removing installed updates. -
Hi climo thats what i mean i have this update installed but its not in my removable updates so im stuck other that do a factory reinstall
-
i read somewhere that maybe a system restore...prior to the update or maybe uninstall windows defender then re-install from the hp website might work.
there must be a way to uninstall this update. -
2 weeks of flawless operation, thanks.
-
this did not work with my dv9207us laptop. everything installed correctly but none of the 5 programs I tested would detect the camera. guess i'll try that hp install method.

I need some help. I have a new A205 Satellite with Chicony 1.3 MP webcam that I can't get to work with Windows Live Messenger. I finally got WLM to recognize the camera and show up on screen. When I send the invitation to view webcam, it shows up and then when the contact accepts it, the camera drops off and closes. I have looked into downloading the Acer driver listed in the original thread but I'm not sure that'll do the trick.
I can see my wife's camera but she can't see mine. Is it software on my end or hers? What about a hardware problem?
Any advice would be awesome. I'm overseas and trying to share video chat with my family back home!
Thanks. -
Then it started working magically. I don't know if that's what helped. But it is still listed as Acer Crystal Eye webcam. Thanks to Dylan for making it so easy! -
I must admit, at first, I was skeptic because after reading page for page, I saw there were mixed reviews... It worked, it didn't work... blah blah blah...
Okay, so what the hell, time to jump off the cliff myself... I have a dv9500 model... the dv9620us t0 be EXACT..
anyways, my webcam worked fine with PalTalk, but would constantly crash my Windows Live Messenger, and Yahoo Instant Messenger... I had come to my wits end trying solution after solution, but none of them had worked for me...
Anyways, I read this thread, from beginning to end, BEFORE MAKING MY DECISION, then thought, what do I have to lose... if it doesn't work, to hell with it, i'll still have a fine laptop, just without a webcam... worst case scenario, i'll just use an external one via USB..
Okay, followed Dylan's guide, step by step, and wouldn't you know... The shyt worked!! and worked WONDERFULLY might I add...
Thanks Dylan!!
I had just about given up on the webcam working with Yahoo and MSN... I had reinstalled, uninstalled, and even picked apart EACH program, thinking it was bugs within them...
anyways... my cam now shows up as the Acer Crystal Eye Webcam, and i'm perfectly alright with that, as long as it works!!
Thanks again! -
I have a TOSHIBA A200-1MB and my webcam had the same problem!
But the ACER drivers worked for my laptop and everything is ok now!!!
Thank you very much!!! -
I have an HP dv9500 laptop with the integrated webcam. I'm pretty sure its a Chicony because the drivers you provided worked great. My question is, what is the resolution of the camera, and what is the maximum frames per second it supports? I cant find this info anywhere.
-
640x480, though 320x240 looks much smoother. It certainly isn't 30 frames per second. 1280x960 is what it says it can do, but I think that's just interpolated from 640x480. I'd say the framerate is around 15. It depends on the application, lighting settings, etc.

hi, want to ask, got hp pavilion dv6450ec, installed web cam driver from hp site which was included in hp dv6000 drivers section because there is no webcam driver issued directly for my hp model, my web cam works via skype or dorgem or other web cam preview application but only if i open it for first time, when i close the application and open again its gone, sometimes it works after two times closing application, where is the problem??? i think its not web cam problem, might be drivers... i tried all drivers from hp and also acer crystal eye.. result - the same...
-
This solution is workin with my Toshiba Qosmio G40-114 !!!
Many Many thanks Dylan.
As I saw that a lot of people have the same problem on Toshiba Support, I post a link to this subject, but it has been edited to indicate only solution without the provider and this forum !!
It's strange that two big computer company don't provide their own solution for this... -
Dylan
I got the toshiba A200 2 weeks ago and since then have same problem saying locked by another application or not connected....talk to toshibha support 3 times but still didnt working ...i hace chicony 1.3..my question is can i download Acer driver listed in the original thread..andfollow the steps listed by you...instead of toshiba driver?
thanks -
thanks for this man..your a life saver
-
-
Thanks so much, it works all the time now instead of randomly!!
-
I have not been able to get any application but the useless QuickPlay to use/recognize the webcam yet on my daughter's computer. I've tried everything I can creatively google to get AIM6.5 to work with the webcam and I've pulled out all my hair.
How can I reliable determine who actually made my webcam? I tried the Acer driver, all of them, still no joy... -
sorry, dont want to read the whole thread. will this work for dv9500t?
XP or Vista? because my webcam doesnt work anymore... lol -
this is a vista issue, and it works on basically all hp notebooks with webcams. Just read the first page.
-
I had a problem with my wifes new 6500t. If I opend the webcam it worked fine for awhile, but if I closed it and tried to re-open it, it would say no hardware found. I went on live chat with hp, and after 30 mins, the tech told me to download a newer bios, he gave me the link and guranteed me it would fix my problem, guess what, thats right it didnt do anything different. I tried the fix posted on the first page of this thread, and all webcam issues are gone, I can open and close all I want and it never stops responding!
Thanks op! -
thanks.....

Hey I have an HP Dv2500cto. I was having no luck getting the webcam to work with the windows/HP drivers. I tried the acer driver soluation and now my camera light turns on (it didnt before) which means the camera is activated, but the picture is black. I know my cam is not broken because it used to work. btw i am runnin windows vista ultimate. any ideas before i try to do a system restore?
-
Has anyone tried this fix on Vista 64bit? It worked fine for me on 32-bit, but to prevent problems, I'm just wondering if someone has tried it before on 64 bit
-
Have you guys tried downloading SP34746 from HP, unzipping, going into folders WCAMC for Chicony or WCAMR for Ricoh and running the installation files there? my dv2637tx (Chicony webcam) now has the HP Webcam (driver ver 61.1.0.10) working with QuickPlay 3.6 and Windows Live Messenger.
The link : http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...eitem=ob-47244-1&printable=no&encodeUrl=true& -
i have the dv2637 aswell and just used the acer crystal eye drivers again with no problems what so ever. awesome fix.
WEBCAM PROBLEM SOLVED!! (fingers crossed, here's to hoping...)
