Mine is supposed to ship today (11/12) but it still says in production. Chatted online with HP and they said to check back in 24 hours since there is no information in their database.

I talked to 2 of the online chat assistant and they say they are 100% sure my order was not delayed. I dont know how much I can trust their words tho, cuz its not worth much if they looking at same order status as we are looking

Yea I think the online chat thing is useless for order status. They see what you see. So when they say your order is not delayed....well that is because that is what they see.

Mine still shows a ship date of Nov 5th.

unpilot what were your specs on your notebook? any different from mine? i7-740, 6gb ram, 2x500gb hdd? trying to see if there's any rhyme or reason why avi8tors shipped out prior to yours. I thought you had yours ordered sooner.

I ordered the standard config. The one you see when you go to HP home shopping. I changed nothing from that.

I think the joke is on all of you. Everyone ordered but no one's getting delivery or even a tracking number. Dont hold your breathe people. HP is a joke. I want the Envy 17 3D but Im not ordering until someone actually gets one and theres a review on it. Looks like youre all gonna be waiting around a while. Theres too many laptops on the market to go thru this debacle.

You guys must be better at complaining than I am. :) I got an email today saying that my shipment was delayed to the 25th (from the 11th). I also got a 15% off coupon emailed to me for a future purchase, but that's kind of useless considering that I'm not going to make another big purchase before it expires. Anyway, I called and tried to be as polite yet disappointed as I could be. They offered me $50 off, which was nice, but not as good as 10%. ;-)

I also tried the online chat, but I'm 75% convinced it's just a computer. The interaction was not very natural at all. Maybe they just have a bunch of pre-written lines that they can call up as needed.

Oh, and I ordered an Envy with the regular screen, NOT the 3D. They told me there was a shortage of a certain component (they didn't say what), but it's evidently not directly related to the 3D.

I'm all ears, and ready to cancel my order if you show me a laptop that's a similar blend of performance and aesthetics.

Also, how are you guys negotiating this 10% coupon. Are you calling and demanding it?

HP customer service is pretty good in terms of helping with customer complaints. Again, I'm confident I will be offered an additional 10% discount on my purchase which will net me a very, very nice 3d notebook at an outstanding price.

It was supposed to be built on the 10th and delivered a few days later. I had ordered the SSD, so maybe that was the holdup. They did send me a 15% off coupon after I canceled, so maybe now I'll reorder it. I also have the Academia discount that anyone can get from a college you're in or graduated from. It will still cost me about $1700 because of that expensive SSD. I read that some of you are installing them yourselves. Does that save a lot?

So yea how did the people get a 10% discount? Now they are saying the max they can do is 50$ off on the next purchase.... ?!

Edit: Oh and they are saying not all people are experiencing the delay and cases like me or other people who posted here are just isolated cases. That kind of sound to me like pushing the responsibility to the consumers. Also I am thinking whether the HP just put the 3d out as an BETA release and see how many people actually is interested and all that 400$ coupon things is a test too. So they can jack up or down the price or components stored. For example, remove the 3d glasses from the package.

i'm going to ask for an extra pair of glasses i think, or an extra power adapter. They may not be eager to do a 10 percent discount if you already got $400 off.

well its the 13th and i haven't gotten a tracking number or a delay email. called hp and they asked to please wait 48 hours till monday to determine if it has shipped or is delayed. I told them I'd call back first thing Monday. She gave me her direct line and said if my order is delayed to call her and she would get me a 10 percent discount.

Yeah, same here. No order status update, or shipping delay email yet.

How did you bring up the 10%? Did you mention that you were aware that others were receiving this discount, or did she just bring up the discount on her own?

I asked if I could get it discounted, given that it had been delayed and it was an inconvenience for me. also, to be fair, last time i ordered my envy 15 2nd gen, it shipped on the correct date, but i didn't get a tracking number until 2 days later (over the weekend). So in theory, it still may have shipped on time.

its a very big screen. i actually looked at this myself too, the 460 gfx would be nice. But i really wanted edge to edge. So I was either going to go with the Envy 17 or An Alienware notebook. I had and M15x recently. I settled on the 17 3d b/c of the 3d, but also b/c its lighter and smaller than the M17x and even ligther than the M15x I believe. Plus, i like having a metalic shell on my notebook.

in my opinion, unpilot, i'd wait for the envy 17 3d. you ordered it already, got a good deal on it (i assume with the coupon), and if you don't like it, can return it for free within 21 days. The return process is really hassle free, I got my refund the same week as the return. Don't think you'll get the same return policy with Amazon and the Qosmio. My 2 cents.

Yea I had a Qosmio (what is up with that name?) before and did not really like it that much. I travel allot and while I don't mind lugging a gaming laptop around the Qosmio might be a bit much.

The thing is I was sold on 3d for gaming a long time ago. I had the old edminsion glasses with a old CRT and the immersion factor is great with 3d.

I wonder how much I will really use it now though.

I wonder if they changed the cooling at all. Since the 5850 is really a down-clocked M5870 It would be nice to over-clock it a bit.

Reading these forums it does not appear that the Envy is very over-clock friendly.

The 5850m is a downclocked 5870m, and if you go on notebookcheck, every benchmark using a GDDR5 5850m comes -2 to -3 fps when compared to a 5870m at stock - amazing.

Now for the truth. Our 5850m is not just a downclocked 5870, it's a downclocked 5850. It runs at 500/900  Stock 5850 runs at 625/1000.

I just can't see this being able to do any modern games in 3D without running at 18-20 fps....

    Placed order 11/11/10.

"Built by" date is 11/30/10 for me right now.

Have to admit, seeing you guys encounter ongoing delays and issues like these has gotten me somewhat annoyed. Seems like there's also literally NO ONE out there aside from a few media outlets that have had their hands on on these machines. I can't find ANYTHING (photos, videos, reviews, usage impressions, notes of any kind) on this computer at all which would seem to indicate no one actually owns one of these things...

So far my experience with HP has been abysmal in terms of quality and customer service (got a regular 17 late october that wouldnt even boot, etc) but I decided to stick it out due to the good value/performance.

I'm worried my ordeal is far from over...

    Hopefuly this pays off...

the few ones from media are not the actual machine neither, they are test units. You can tell from the glasses are printed XpanD instead of HP. So it wasnt from the hp production line

    Hello...
After further research I found I need a nvidia card in my laptop with cuda support to utilize the mercury playback engine in adobe premiere cs5.
I bought the ausus G73jw yesterday and am loving it so far. Also, the cooling system is very well designed. Didn't order the HP for 3d anyway.
So, I am cancelling my order.

PS. When I was ordering my hp envy 17 D, sales person mentioned I should buy a heating pad for it. Good advice, many laptops do indeed benefit from one. Then I mentioned I read that the laptop did suffer from heating issues and I was under the impression it caused alot of people to return the laptop. (was curious how they would respond) Specifically I mentiond the palm rest. She told me it was designed that way to dissipate heat. That answer lingered in my head and I must admit I do have a sense of relief now...I am not waiting for a laptop that could be delayed and the one I have has the quietest fans I can imagine.

i called and they said my order is not on the delay list and if it were delayed it would be on there by now, so they are positive that my order is not delayed. And then they explained that fedex does not ship out stuff on fridays so need 24 hrs to get my tracking number. I dont know how much of that is true info, but i hope its true. There got to be a date that the part they were short of came and all orders after that date is not delayed.

I got the same schpeel through a chat session. She made "small talk" while looking up my order information by saying she's received a great deal of positive feedback on the Envy 17 3D...which is funny, considering no one has it yet.

She she's not aware of any shipping delays with this model, so I should get a shipping confirmation shortly. I'm not holding my breath...

This is getting ridiculous. I searched online and I see that this is are the only active thread about the 3D. There are NO end-user reviews of the 3D and NO people that have actually received it except for the media demos. And it seems like HP has no clue when it will be built or ship or even what the hold up is. I still want the thing, but maybe I should have bought the Qosimo...at least I'd have had it for a week now. I also worry what problems are going to come up when we get it based on what I've read about people who have gotten the 17.

Just called HP, my order status shows 15th, and they confirmed that it will be shipped out today by the end of the day.

Goddamnit. I wanted a 10% delay comp!! Oh well, a $1200 3D envy is still good.

There's no doubt that the G73jw provides a better cooling solution, and gaming performance than the Envy 17...but I don't think people who purchase the Envy are looking for absolute top-of-the-line performance. They're looking for a blend of good (i.e. professional) looks and performance and even a bit of portability. The G73jh looks kind of juvenile, if you ask me, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who was turned of by the aesthetics and bulk of it. Not that the Envy 17 is small by any means, but looking at the two side by side gives you an idea of what I'm talking about...

In my opinion, there just isn't another laptop that is as much of a happy medium of looks, form factor and performance as the HP Envy 17.

i agree with terminally, both the toshiba, asus and even alienware gaming laptop look huge. My purpose of the laptop isnt just gaming, id say prob play games on this 1/3 of the time on this. I bought a cooler master u3 for it, think it will make the heat less

Somewhere else in this thread another person had a similar conversation with HP. He then got the "sorry delay in shipping" email.

Not saying that will happen to you and I hope it does not. I would like a user review of this thing soon!

Ain't this some sh**...... original ship by date was 11/12
