I was wondering if someone could link to a valid download of the fingerprint drivers (2.0.0.1???) that works with Windows 7?
I currently have the drivers from the Page 1 post, and although in device manager everything looks good, the V4 Fingerprint software does not see a reader. There was a link to 2.0.0.1 drivers a few pages back, but that link appears to be dead.
Working with Windows 7 x64 Build 7264 now. Thanks! -
I used this until others told me to just download another version and use it directly.
If you want the other version, although not 2.0.0.1, it is HERE -

windows 7 64 bit -
I have a quick question, and forgive my ignorance on the subject.
I understand how to partition the hard drive in Vista, and install W7 on the new partition. Does Win 7 not detect any of the hardware in the system when installed? In other words, will drivers for most or all of the hardware have to be installed? Or is this just to get full functionality of the device? For example, after a clean Win 7 install, do the Nividia drivers have to be installed, or will the operating system see what card it is? Obviously all of the HP drivers are on the computer in the vista partition, but will they work for Win 7 generally? -
Hey everybody. I am getting the HP HDX 18 and I was wondering if I should upgrade or do a clean install when the upgrade is released. My friend told me in order to get rid of all the crap form Vista I should do a clean install but I don't know how hard finding drivers is going to be even though all the drivers are going to be on the HP support website. I was thinking about just upgrading, but again, I don't want any Vista slowishness left behind. What do you guys think?

There really isn't much that doesn't work on the '18 under Windows 7, and don't forget, it will be released soon, so HP will have drivers for everything, eventually. -
uh, without question, (and now I have tried oh, at least 12 installs of XP, Vista & 7 on my hdx18) - Windows 7 is better than Vista.
My one exception being that the default Vista Media center has netflix built in, and W7 does not, but I can't really be to upset with the operating system over something like that. -
-
Well, I'm surprised that with Windows 7 going public yesterday on MSDN and Technet that no one here is posting their experiences with the "real deal" version of Windows 7....

It seems like everyone has been excited about the recent release of Intel’s second-generation solid state drives (SSDs) this week. I am the proud owner of one of the first-gen models, and the idea that more affordable models will help more people to adopt this technology is just cause for celebration.
It came as quite a shock to me, then, when we were told to hold delivery of the drives to end-users this morning - just before our first shipment came in to the Puget warehouse. There was a lot of confusion, but it was clear that something was wrong with these first units - enough so that Newegg and other online vendors had also pulled them entirely from their sites. We too stopped listing them, and began contacting our customers who were expecting us to ship them out this afternoon. We couldn’t say much, though, since the details were still sketchy, and nothing was posted publicly online.
After several hours of waiting on Intel’s tech folks I am now pleased to be able to relay to our customers the status of the Intel drives. There is a defect in the units which causes data corruption if - and only if - a password is set on the drive in the system BIOS… and then changed or disabled later. Initially we were told this might require a complete reworking of the drives, and that those we had gotten in were effectively unusable, but Intel was able to work out a firmware fix for the problem. That won’t be available immediately, but should be showing up in about two weeks.
In light of this set of circumstances, we are contacting all of our customers who already purchased to let them decide if they want the drives now, with full understanding of the situation, or if they want to wait till we get units with the updated firmware from Intel. Since few people seem to put BIOS passwords on their hard drives the overwhelming response so far has been to ship them out, but we want to make sure that we work with each of our customers to get them the results that are best suited to their needs.

Second Gen Intels will be making there way into the HP production line at some point and maybe already have so if anyone ordered the Intell SSD option from HP be aware of this issue.
I hope it saves someone from going crazy and thinking that the world is against them.
I am up grading to a SSD drive and I had honestly decided to make the purchase the same day I read this. I would have an SSD for the OS and apps set as a read only and write to my other drive. I am willing to stick my toe into he water before jumping in with all the talk of multi and slow down becuase of writting too much and the ugly freezing word as well.
Be well all, JW
Anyone that says the ubgrade to Windows 7 was not the cuase of the Intel recal is covering for intel... The Bios is the a one off the old Vista and would have triped the Intel into locking..

Sorry for the edit I thought maybe for some the added unformation would be needed. -
Has anyone gotten there finger print scanner to work on Windows 7 RTM?
I followed the steps that were posted earlier in the thread to get the finger print scanner working and the driver installs but digital persona says that no finger print scanner is connected but the device manger shows it as a working hardware.
Any ideas?
I tried using digital persona 3.0 but it says this version of windows is not supported and I can't seem to find version 2.0 of the program. -
I'll look around and report back.
(as a matter of fact, when I "upgraded" to the RTM from 7264, I wound up with a Digital Persona desktop gadget/widget for it!) -
Has anyone with an SSD as their OS drive, with Windows 7 installed, actually had Windows 7 configure itself for the SSD? I've read over and over that if it detects an SSD, that certain services (prefetch, superfetch, disk defrag, etc.) are automatically disabled.
I've done quite a few installs on various notebooks with SSD's and NEVER ONCE have I found that Windows 7 disabled any of those services. I have to go in and manually turn them off.
Supposedly, there is a PREFETCH (not Superfetch), that needs to be turned off also, but I cannot figure out how to turn that off.
Anyone have any input on this? -

Fingerprint Reader driver--Validity Sensors, Inc., ver. 1.3.1.183 dated 2/6/2008 from sp41700.exe
Digital Persona Software: 4.0.100.1189 installed from sp43883.exe
You can also look back in the HDX18 Owners Lounge thread here for more links and info. -

Hi All,
OK, TechNet user here, and installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit as a direct upgrade over Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit. I am running the Core 2 Extreme on this machine, and even with that processor, the whole update process (vs. a clean install) was very slow.
Everything works, including the fingerprint reader right away. The only issue I have had are occisional sound hang ups (where for 3-5 seconds, the system freezes and the same sound buzzes). I have not uninstall/reinstalled sound drivers yet as I suspect it is a driver interrupt issue. Will report back on that. Otherwise, I'd say that Win 7 RTM rocks on the HDX18 -
I've installed Media Smart DVD player (the only component of Media Smart I've installed). I don't know why, but it doesn't seem to do the advanced smoothing option as well as it does in Vista? It does also seem to slow down a bit. Is there something I'm missing in my installation? Should I also install the Medial Smart Menu? I'm currently running the RC Build 7100. I have installed all the drivers that are linked on the first page as well.
-
^^ solved, I read up on another thread to install the Cyberlink DVD software suite as well. I didn't realize this program had DVD encoders that would help with this issue.
-
sound issue still sticking with Win 7 RTM upgrade install. The fingerprint reader and bass/treble all work - HOWEVER, on the blu-ray playback, it works on the computer, but rejects the HDMI playback. HDMI works just fine otherwise (unlike my DV7 with the HDMI audio not working with video driver update). All I get is an blu-ray playback cannot work with the HDMI plugged in. Any suggestions?
-
I now have Windows 7 x64 Pro RTP installed on the HDX18t with no issues and all devices working properly. By far, the most challenging part of this little setup is getting the fingerprint reader going. I had it working on RC1 – but then it still took some massaging to get it going on the RTM. Ultimately, I was able to make everything work – although I did have to use some of the Vista x64 drivers in a few spots.
I have made no attempt to use the HP-provided Blu-Ray player software. I like ArcSoft’s offering, and its latest release is working great in Media Center with or without using the HDMI port. The only “gotcha” is that the built-in display needs to be OFF in order to use the HDMI port for DVD playback – so I just set the HDMI/TV as the primary and only display when I hook to the home entertainment system. Works fine.
Windows 7 Came with many (most) of the drivers for the on-board devices. The ones I needed to hunt down and deal with myself are below:
nVidia Drivers
- Core version 1.4
- PhysX driver version 9.09.0203
- I got these from Windows Update
- Both the nVidia HD Audio and Video drivers are working great. No issues.
- Version 2.8.116A
- Can be found here: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp43501-44000/sp43913.exe
- I tried several versions of this with digital persona – this is the one that I finally got working.
- Note – windows 7 added a new type of fingerprint reader driver. (The old interface is still supported). As of this writing, no available releases of Digital Persona from HP support the new driver model. There is a driver for the Validity Sensors unit that comes with Win7.
- Windows 7 supposedly has built-in biometrics support that would use this other driver. However, that support only does Windows Login, and not Web Site or other application logins using fingerprints. IMO, this makes the Digital Persona package preferable.
- If you want to use the current releases of Digital Persona, you cannot use the built-in driver. You must force Windows 7 to use the old-architecture driver (still supported in Win 7 – just not the default). Pay CLOSE attention to what device manager says is the currently-installed driver. I expect this to be rectified at some point via an update to DP that supports the new interface – but in the interim – be very detail-oriented about this.
- Version 1.0.32.1
- Available here: ftp://driver.jmicron.com.tw/jmb38x/XP_Vista_Win7/JMB38X_WinDrv_R1.00.32_WHQL.zip
- Version 2.6.0.0A
- Available Here: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp41501-42000/sp41659.exe
- Win 7 came with drivers for several other HID devices – but they got swapped out when this installed. No biggie – everything works fine.
- Version 6.40.17.2
- Available Here: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp43501-44000/sp43616.exe
- Version 3.10.1.6 (3.10A)
- Available Here: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp39001-39500/sp39123.exe
- Version 4.01.3749_64A
- Available Here: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp43501-44000/sp43883.exe
- This isn’t really a “driver” per-se, but since it is JUST as important as the driver for getting things working right with the Fingerprint Reader…
As an aside - I have 8GB in this box, the Core2 Extreme QX9300, and a pair of 256GB SuperTalent Ultradrive SSDs in this thing - and it flies. -
I may go the ArcSoft route, as HP MediaSmart is a bear to work with. I forgot to switch off my PC monitor for HDMI (DOH), but while Blu-Ray playback is smooth on the PC screen, when I playback via the HDMI it gets jittery and jumpy. I may end up doing clean install afterall...
-
have you fixed the problem with the explorer.exe ? I have the same problem.
best regards
Reddeer2000 -
I did get it fixed: I reinstalled Windows 7, and I installed the updates one at a time until I came across the offender. Unfortunately, I can't remember which update was causing the problem. I'll see if I can go back and figure it out. Win7 is very fast now, though, with no problems. -
Hi Pipper,
thx for the answer.
In Germany, there are no official updates available at the moment. So, I got this problem without any update
I installed WIN7 five times, everytime with 2 mistakes. The first mistake ist the problem with the explorer.exe and the second one is I get an error after boot...something about system event notification service.
I have fixed the second one, this is the idt audio driver. -
ok. any answers on this would be appreciated. I got a refurb by HP HDX18t unit - but it was non TV unit. According to the manual it was still "supposed" to get the expresscard remote - but the refurb units do not get it (went back and forth with HP about this). No worries as I still had an RC6 unit from a dead DV series (those Turions love to overheat). However, no matter what I try, I cannot get the little expresscard remote to work with the HDX18t unit either in Vista or 7. Any help in getting this puppy working would be appreciated.

Will HP be offering a Windows 7 Upgrade Disc for HDX18 or HDX16?
i would like it to be an easy process! -
-
no other way to purchase via HP?
or is the best route to purchase and download needed drivers (listed in this wonderful thread by the way ..thanks!) -
Note you only get the upgrade to what was installed with the laptop, I had Home Premium on mines, so I'd be getting Windows 7 Home Premium, those with Vista Ultimate get 7 Ultimate. -
-
Since they're not even making the HDX18 anymore, makes you wonder. -
Hello there, I have a HDX 18-1180 and I just clean installed Windows 7 Professional on my notebook and all works well, including the webcam, keyboard, fingerprint reader, bluetooth, onscreen display, quick launch buttons, etc... All I did was go into HP's drivers & software downloads for my notebook by choosing Windows 7-64 bit and it did the trick. Also, my webcam wasn't working so all I did was to download MediaSmart Webcam from this web page:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&os=2100&product=3915097
Also, when you restart you notebook like 5 times or more during those updates, that's when it works, don't expect it to work without restarting it.
I REALLY love what Windows 7 did with my HDX; with Vista, my on-screen display of the volume and mute and Treble&Bass was awful, it kept doing noises when touching it and it never did really work but with Windows 7 it's totally different, it's smooth and doesn't make any noise! -

I now have a W7 SSD drive in my HDX18. Can someone clue me in on what I have to do to Windows so that it doesn't do things it should not when you have an SSD drive?
I went in and turned off Defrag, which was active (I thought it was supposed to be off automatically when you installed W7), but I hear there are other things to kill.
lancorp, did you stop the restore points so save space on the SSD or is there another reason?
THANKS -
-
That wasn't specifically for your question oblio98, but general for anyone that might be in the same situation or considering it. -
Krane,
The only thing I have "turned off" so far is the scheduled defrag's that got put in by default.
I am wondering about the prefetch stuff. Is that something I should be disabling? I wish there was a guide for us first time SSD'ers! -
-
I plan to scour the internet and some W7 mags to see if I can get this thing right. I realise that there is something called "TRIM" (or something like that) that is supposed to "lite-up" Windows 7 and it's use of SSD's, but alas my X-25 does not have this feature. However, I remember reading an article about a program that you can download that will give "TRIM" like features to Windows and non-TRIM SSD's. That's one I'm looking for.
I just about have my HDX 18 "fully recovered" from the clean install. It's really smoking now. For what it's worth, my Windows Experience scores are as follows:
PROCESSOR: 7.2
MEMORY: 7.2
GRAPHICS: 4.8
GAMING GRAPHICS: 6.2
PRIMARY HARD DRIVE: 7.7
That graphics score is a KILLER! -
I was just wondering. I'm in the middle of upgrading my mom's laptop to Windows 7...
Now my main concern is getting the IDT, Synaptics Pointing Device Driver, Digital Persona, JMicron, etc.
Now when I was in the Beta/RC all I had to do on my HDX 18t was go to the HP website, look up my model number, download, and install the drivers.
However when I did the clean install for my the main desktop I was completely unable to install any drivers from HP's own website. Instead I kept getting an error "9998"
I tried calling HP to get help and figure out what it means but they wouldn't tell me anything since the desktop was out of the 1 year warranty. They said I HAD to PAY them to get any type of tech support...which is absolutely ridiculous IMO.
Anyways does anyone know if I'll have the same issue with my mom's dv5t?
Most importantly has anyone run across this error? And if so how do you fix it?
lancorp your expertise is most welcome here.... -
One thing to do before the clean install is burn the folder- C:\SWsetup to dvd.
This folder has all the original drivers that come w/ your computer from the factory. They may not all work w/ W7, but hey at least you'll have some backup drivers.
----------------
Now playing: The Offspring - 01 - Jennifer Lost the War-
via FoxyTunes -
That's odd. I was able to go to the HP website and download all of the drivers I needed (Except the fingerprint reader driver) without a hitch.
Of course, I did it BEFORE I did the upgrade and put them on my D: drive. Maybe that was a difference. Not shure why it would be. -
Is anyone creating a troubleshooting datebase of these W7 ills? From what I can see, the questions and comments are all over the place. Shouldn't we all congregate W7 in one place?
-
There might even be some much needed info there as well.
