During setup when it says "press F6..." i pressed F5 then F6...chose standard PC...then continued setup as normal. Then i ONLY installed the driver for the wireless card, then opened internet explorer and went to windowsupdate.microsoft.com and chose custom, downloaded everything and rebooted. Then i installed all the other drivers, and the graphics card last.
If you try this...let me know how it goes
-
Looks like you changed the HAL(Hardware Abstraction Layer) & found all the working drivers lol. To change it back goto device manager & change Standard PC to AHCI Multiprocessor PC. Imma try now and find out what driver installed for the sound card. -
Let me know what happens when you try... -
odd....it let me switch from multi to standard pretty easy. I found the IDT driver in windows update tho and will try to dig them out to put in my original install.
-
Anyways, if you could make an installer for that, it would be pretty awesome if it works under multi.
Please keep me updated, Thanks -
No luck on either driver, I extracted them both & reinstallled..Same issue but I did find a working control panel &new version & better location for intels Wifi Drivers

I'm having A LOT of trouble with my friend's dv7t...for some reason when I install the graphics drivers it literally takes 20 minutes to boot up and the blue ray drive doesnt show up at all....very weird...any idea how to resolve this? I'm starting another attempt at a clean install on it. -
it seems some one on page 4 was able to run xp perfectly ok on his dv7t. This is a good sign. If some can find out if xp runs perfectly fine with all features on a dv5t it would be great and post a guide with the drivers used.
If xp on dv5t works, this is be great news and would encourage me even more to go and buy tht dv5-1070ee -
Hi guys. Just wanted to tell you you're not alone in this battle. I want the performance I paid for on my DV7t so let's make it happen! so I guess the only thing left are the processor issues since MNP managed to install all the drivers and sound worked. Good luck!
-
I'm running xp on my dv7t...formatted over vista...even got rid of the recovery partition...just get a usb sound card for like 20$ and it works 100%
-
Well what about the processor issue that you were having before. When it didn't recognized it as a dual core processor. Did you get rid of that problem?
-
That problem was only occurring when I installed xp with a specific setting...installing it normally makes everything work fine...except there are no drivers for the sound
-
anyone that has info on drivers please post, I will use another hdd for xp pro as i had an extra one in my dv8309us, hope to get my dv7t running on xp perfectly
-
so then i have to install normal, and have no sound, until a driver is made or found?
-
Just google nvdisp4.dll & see all the Geforce problems I & others had.
On another note. The standard PC didnt have working Memory card reader & quick launch buttons. Im kind of content for right now, I can use a headphones & microphone & get good functionality. -
Hi guys,
first of all thanks for all your information (especially ProntonXX) about your attempts to run Windows XP Professional on the HP DV7 notebook, it really helped me a lot.
Finally after many hours everything works fine on my DV7, even the stupid sound driver (but in an unusual manner, see below).
Just to sum up all my experiences with the installation of the sound driver, there are two ways to get the sound driver work:
1.
- Install the computer the way mnp2005 described (press F5 and F6 during installation) and you will have no problems with all the drivers including the sound, but you should bear in mind that you only have a standard pc in the device manager with the following disadvantages:
First there is no multiprocessor system support and my notebook was extremely slow after this way of installation and secondly I couldn't use the energy options like battery etcetera, which really makes a notebook so special.
Because I wasn't able to switch back to ACPI-Multiprocessor-PC, I came to the conclusion that this installation is no option for me.
2.
- Just make a normal installation with a Win XP Pro (SP2) with the SATA drivers slipstreamed.
- Then install the Microsoft patch kb888111 for UAA High Definition Audio driver:
I took the kb888111xpsp2 file from the HP driver package sp39457, but I didn't use the included sound driver because the sound only comes through the subwoofer.
- Download the IDT High Definition Audio Codec driver from the Microsoft Update Catalogue homepage instead (take this version of the XP drivers: Windows XP, 05.09.2007, 5.10.5607.0, 1,9 MB)
http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/search.aspx?q=idt
and extract and install the driver manually.
You'll see the sound works perfectly (boxes on top and the subwoofer)!
But unfortunately when I restarted the computer the sound disappeared from the device manager without any reason as some of you also experienced. This problem can't be solved with any driver that I found in the world wide web . . . and believe me I tried a a lot.
In order to have sound again I found out that I just have to deactivate and activate the Microsoft UAA High Definition Audio driver in the device manager and suddenly the sound is immediately available.
To avoid activating the sound manually every time I restart my computer, I wrote a small batch file, which starts my sound automatic-manuallythis way and is stored in the auto boot folder. Every time I restart my computer again the batch file starts automatically and it only takes about 10 seconds until I get sound.
Maybe my solution is not the best way to solve this problem, but it works for me and is better than to buy an external sound card.
How to create your own batch file:
- Download the DevCon command-line utility from Microsoft
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B311272&x=17&y=10
which is pretty much the same like the device manager as a console and extract it to a folder.
- Make a bat-file with the following text:
c:\windows\devcon\i386\devcon.exe (or any other path, where you stored your DevCon folder) restart PCI\VEN_8 ... (Hardware ID of the Microsoft UAA driver for High Definition Audio, which you can find in the device manager, properties of UAA, tab details and has to be copied exactly)
I think this way is a good interim solution until someone finds or even writes a new sound driver that is compatible with the DV7 and Win XP.
By the way: To minimize the pop-up window it helps to create a link in the auto boot folder and store the batch-file somewhere else.
Hopefully my explanations aren't too confusing and sorry for my horrible English.
If anyone has any question feel free to ask.
-
I just got my external sound card today...but that ugly orange mute button is still staying orange....any way to fix this? Possibly a registry edit?
Yes, I tried installing the quick launch drivers from hp's site...still nothing -
I am guessing some of those unknown devices are bluetooth as well. Anyone have any luck finding bluetooth drivers? -
many thanks for everyone hard work
-
-
anyone had any more luck with this?
-
ok, so i got my hands on an 'unreleased' Audio driver ... and that didnt work, i was gonna send it out, but it hought i better test it first .. just as well i did.
For those who have tried to install Windows XP, and it takes an eternity to boot, it turns out this is the dreaded 'MUP.SYS' error that has plagued so many people in the past, this apparently doesnt happen on single drive systems, so maybe a different board, or different hardware on board? anyway, the BIOS on the DV7 is rubbish at best, as my first thought was to reset the ESCD forcing the O/S to look for new hardware and maybe overcome this problem, didnt work. I have tried the recovery console, and using 'DISABLE MUP', didnt work, i have tried replacing the MUP.SYS file, that didnt work either, i have tried just about everything and it still hasnt worked, my next thing is to do an installation on my friend Toshiba laptop, and then put the drive back into my DV7, a recipe for disaster i know, and usually not recomended.
its looking like XP is gonna be flakey on this at best. -
Hello all,
I have a HP DV7-1060EP with vista home premium 32bit, and im trying to get xp/xp x64 in it.
Can I use the method described by kamicat? What about the fingerprint reader software, will that be gone?
Thanks in advance -
-
mnp2005, does your IR remote work under XP? If so, what driver are you using and can you pls upload it somewhere? My dv5t IR has a driver, but the remote does not function.
-
i have XP SP3 running on my DV5t.
Not really sure on how well XP is handling the Power managment.
Current Issues:
Fn to adjust brightness does not work. (weird) But Fn www works!?
Bluetooth is not working. (Have HP interface & Unknown Dev in Dev Manager)
SOund is always lite up orange on the touch pannle. (Works though)
Have had it on for about 3 days now... still working the kinks out.
I used the DV7t guide. -
Ok, in an effort to try and refrain from being rude or sounding like an A$$hole, May I ask what you guys are smoking? And where can I buy some? I got XP loaded, and tried using the supplied drivers, I've got Video and Power management, Wireless, and wired networking, and it boots fine with 2 hard drives, however I still have 9 unknown devices, and even after a force load of the UAA Bus, still no sound device showing up, tried loading the IDT Driver and it says device not found, yet we have someone saying it works but disappears after reboot? And another who says it works yet the mute button stays orange? All I can say is someone post a good walkthrough/guide, or pass the pipe this way b/c it must be good stuff........
-
I dunno about this UAA stuff. I know you need Kb888111 if you're running XP SP2, but SP3 supercedes this KB - if you try to install it under SP3 you can't. I've read on the HP forums that under SP3 you need KB835221 something, but the MS page on this KB says that 888111 supercedes it, suggesting that it's not needed under SP3. However, it still installs, so I dunno (I suspect it's obsolete).
What I do know is that on my dv5t with SP3, I did NOT install any UAA KBs. I simply ran the setup.exe in swsetup\drivers\audio and it installed and ran all ok. You're dv7ts might be different due to the subwoofer, but all my audio works fine. -
Topic gone hostile! Once everything is done satisfactorily, I might try booting up Windows on the DV7. I'm p1ssed about the whole "made for Vista" thing.
-
I have 2 HDs and don't have the eternity boot problem.
Sound is weird because it comes thru the woofer only on DV7
I have the orange Mute key too. -
After much yanking out of the hair, I got XP loaded and running, I have sound, And the mute button works as it's supposed to, both with function and color changing, sound coming from all 3 speakers, unfortunately, their is also a rediculous amount of "Popping" when opening pages, or programs, Still have 5 Unknown Devices in Device Manger, so ugh, it's back to Vista again, don't wanna blow my speakers, Oh PS Audio may work, but as soon as I reboot it's gone again. Seems this topic has not only gone hostile, but dead too.
-
or maybe i am loading a different version of Xp than you? or maybe my hardware is different from yours? i am in Australia ...
just because people cant get XP working, doesnt mean to say they are stoners, and you talk about thread going hostile?
-
Yeah, dunno why this thread is considered hostile.
Cobraman10176 , check the IDT control panel if you have it. On my dv5t I got regular popping of the sound. I disabled power management in the IDT control panel and it went away. If not, there might be a registry hack that does the same thing. Basically it was set to disable the sound every 10 secs, which caused a pop when the speakers turned off.
Cobraman10176, how did you get your mute button to change colour? What sound driver did you use, and did you install quick launch buttons? (Which version if you did). Do you Fn-f7/f8 brightness up/down buttons work? -
To get bootable sound. I used the devcon.exe hack + autoexec in the statup folder.
Devcon can be found here
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/311272
If the Autoexec.bat is in the registry it will load too fast & wont reload the sound.
I made a text file. renamed it to devcon.bat & typed this
devcon.exe restart "PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_293E&SUBSYS_30F4103C&REV_03"
Then I placed the file here
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
please give info on updated sound & maybe I can figure out the popping noise. -
Hi everybody,
I have 2 HDs and same problem as mnp2005 had
-
Wow I can't believe this thread is still going on...
It would laughable if it weren't so sad. Yeah Vista didn't have the smoothest start as an OS. However it's pretty much hit its stride and is obviously leaps and bounds beyond XP.
This is such a useless battle. -
I prefer to spend some time killing Vista and after enjoy with my laptop, than to endure vista. So I'm not giving up, and I beleive this is not useless battle.
XP forever! we'll win. -
Installed Alcohol on top of clean SP3+chipset driver, now booting OK and dvd-rom recognized.
-
Try using Sp3 for the slow boots. SP2 didnt load for me either.
-
In response to slow boot up times, on my dual HD DV7 1003tx, I had similar experiences when I first installed XP over Vista, on a different partition but on the same HD.
Later on I had issues so I got rid of that XP install, and installed XP on the 2nd HD. Importantly, I first physically removed the Vista HD.
This meant a clean fresh straight install on XP, no boot issues, just like any other XP laptop, obviously though I still have driver issues.
When I reconnected the Vista HD, I reconciled the dual booting of both with Easybcd and the help of the forum.
Now I have a quick booting XP..with some driver issues (sound) but still very useable. -
ProtonXX check the sound control panel applet. Disable power saving mode, that fixed the popping on my dv5t. Every 10 sec the speakers would turn off to save power, causing a pop. Disable it and they don't turn off, hence no popping.
-
just installed xp on a dv5t
first of all- problems that other pple are having i am having too-
mute button always orange
IR remote not working
brightness controls not working
anyone found a fix for that?
under device manager i still have 2 decives not installed.
one is the "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus". i already tried the swsetup folder and it couldn't find anything there. also tried the Nvidia HDMI Audio posted on the dv7t thread but setup won't even load. any ideas?
i also have just an "Unknown device"...what is this? no idea...?
also, the power meter on the bottom right is not appearing. i have settings set to show details for battery but it's not showing
please help! -
Install the nvidia drivers manually. also i had a problem where the IDT drivers worked for both hdmi & idt audio for they both have the same device ID i think.
I dont have popping on my IDT drivers. I have problem with sound only coming thru the woofer & orange mute key. Although the key does work -
problems left-
mute button always orange
IR remote not working
brightness controls not working
and a random "Unknown device" in device manager...what is this?
any ideas?? -
I got XP installed and running, but still have 12 unknown devices.
I had trouble installing the audio stuff (got an error)
How do you figure out for each device what it is and what driver to look for for it? -
Check out my reply here http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=3904007&posted=1
It might help -
hey everyone, i've still been watching this thread here and there.
I got the brightness keys to work...and the rest of the fn keys for that matter.
I got the media remote to sort of work...only a couple buttons work, not sure why...but I'm gonna keep playing with it.
I got the audio to sort of work...more on this later. If i get it working 100% I'll post here about how. Maybe if certian people on here were actually truthful and shared what they were doing I would be more open about this. (you know who you are.) -
How did u get the brightness to work? What did u install? Likewise for the remote?
