mujjuman, the dv9500t I currently have on order will be my very first system with NATIVE Vista on it (the XPS 410 I'm using right now was upgraded to Vista and the 3.5-year-old HP m376n I plan to plug back in and wirelessly network with the XPS when my Gigabit router gets here has XP Media Center on it)...

As such, I have no CURRENT plans to go to all the trouble you and quite a few others are going to and change the laptop to XP -- ESPECIALLY since it's IMPOSSIBLE to get an aftermarket version of XP Media Center and I ordered one with the TV tuner, like ALL my PCs, lol... I got mine with the 7500 processor and 2 GB of RAM, have NO PLANS to run games or do any serious photo or video editing on it (I have this XPS for THAT)... Will at MOST use it for photo downloads, recording and watching TV, net surfing and downloading and POSSIBLY some minor photo editing such as cropping or re-sizing using something like Google Picasa (since I already have TWO paid versions of Photoshop Elements, and don't feel like buying a third). I have a paid version of the FULL photoshop, Illustrator, Pagemaker and Acrobat for the Mac I bought a few years ago ($1000 on DISCOUNT), but a lot of good that does me now, lol -- and Adobe offers NO crossgrade discounts.

That said, I think you've done a TREMENDOUS SERVICE to fellow forum members by not only going through an extensive process of learning how to do the XP reversion, and posting what you learned along the way, but ALSO keeping good on your word and posting a pretty COMPREHENSIVE post, complete with screen pictures, once you finally got it down, pretty much (and with still with promises of MORE TO COME)!

You're not the ONLY ONE on this forum to do this sort of thing, by far, but it's folks like you who take, and then give back far more, who keep forums like this useful and PROVE not only the value of forums but that there truly ARE still people who care about MORE than just getting what they want and then to heck with everyone else!

    KUDOS to you, mujjuman!
    Jeff

I THOUGHT I remembered someone else on this thread got you started, mujjuman, and almost put that in my post, but as I had just spent half the night wading through this thread while also trying to watch my programs, I didn't feel like scrolling back until I figured out if and where that happened, lol, so I just left that credit out... In true form, though, you passed along the credit, as well.

ok, here is what i did.

i installed Windows XP SP2 on another partition and all the drivers as well. i took pics, etc. for the guide and i saved them as well. but now, i cant go back to my original Windows XP SP2 installation. im trying to figure that out first, lol. because all my programs and settings are installed on that partition. i hope its salvagable.

when i first installed XP, it was on drive C:
then i formatted drive D: (the recovery partition) and installed XP again on that partition for the guide. i was still able to see the contents of the drive C:, except now my original drive C: became drive D: and my original drive D: (formerly recovery partition) became drive C:

so im in some sort of mess. ill get that straightened out, then ill post the remainder of the guide in the original Post... or ill just create a new thread. you guys choose :)

ok, i am very very sorry for the delay. it seems as if im going to to have to delete everything and reinstall in order to get things working again. its because i messed up formatting the first time (thats why its important to do the partitioning and formatting correctly the first time!)

i usually learn the hard way, but if i learn it, i always teach it to others.

anyway, please give me a few more hours to get my files and things rounded up

    [EDIT]

oh yeah, im also planning on a quickplay partition as well (about 1075MB partition)

Just a slight correction, to my knowledge Mujjuman is the one who authored this entire guide. Nobody else has helped him construct it other than of course this forums various sources of information he may or may not have included in his guide.

The only help I did was modifying it slightly to make it easier to understand and follow for those less computer savvy users. I understand hes propably quite busy in real life and is going out of his way to make a guide so that others may know how to install Windows XP on their dvx500 series laptop. (You will not see the edited one until Mujjuman gets time to finish his entire guide.)

Just wanted to thank you again mujjuman for your hard work. If theres anyway I can go over the final draft and help you format it I would be more than happy to before it is stickied in this forum.

    quick important notice:

do not use the graphics driver that i included. its the one that doesnt support standby/hibernation. so do not attempt to put your computer to sleep without saving anything.

and sorry for not posting the guide up quickly. i have a full time job and also part time school (just finished some finals) but my job is still really hectic and busy at this time of the year. i am coming home really late and barely have time to eat as well.

i know this thread isnt for me to post whats going on in my life, but i wanted to explain why a simple guide like this could not have been posted sooner.

get the good nvidia driver here:

thanks for the important notice......downloading the "good Drivers" :D
    Good luck with your finals.

EDIT: Right now, megaupload don´t let me download this file, don´t know why.......I´ll try later.

EDIT2: BTW, why in nlite we select only the (Mobile ICH8M-E/M) SATA driver and not ALL of them???

Because the dv9500t uses the ICH8M-E/M SATA Driver. The other drivers are there for those with different model computers that use SATA, the dv9500t only uses the ICH8M-E/M Driver.

I have also found more up to date drivers than ones posted by Mujjuman and I will be uploading them on MegaUpload as soon as I get the chance. These drivers have already been tested on two dv9500t using a slipstreamed copy of Windows XP and are working great.

BTW, does anyone knows which drivers do I need for the HP TV Tuner that came with the 9500t and where to get them? (XP obviously)
This forum it´s getting better everyday :D

    New Nvidia Graphic Drivers
    New Ethernet Drivers
    New Realtek HD Audio Drivers
    New Synaptics Touchpad Driver

I also included Intel Matrix Storage Manager Drivers that Mujjuman forgot to include. Basically what these do are update your SATA Drivers to the latest version and include a program that helps improve your HD's Performance.

Edit: New & Latest Drivers Up For Download! Please note you will need 7-Zip or PowerArchiver to open this archive. It is heavily compressed using the 7-Zip Format.

Hi Hackez, I just wanna say THANKYOU for this pack of new drivers :)
    Alx

PS. This is a question for every user of a HP 9500t...mine hasn´t arrived yet. Usually I use the program GHOST that runs in DOS to clean all my messed C drive on my desktop PC and restore a good windows XP installation over the dirty one, but, my desktop PC HDD is IDE, not SATA.......and i wonder now.... when my new HP9500t arrives, after the fresh XP install, when I need to make a ghost of it, or when I need to restore it, doing like I do, booting from a boot cd to use GHOST from DOS, how GHOST would recognize the SATA HDD from the notebook?......there is NOT an ICH8M-E/M SATA Driver for DOS.......does anyone tried this?.......or use another method to make a backup of your windows installation?.......can anyone enlight me?
Really thanks for your help,ppl........and again, I apologize for my poor english....my mother tongue is spanish

Thanks for all the help provided in this guide Mujumman and Hackez.

I am right now downloading the files and will try them on a Win XP SP2 install for a dv 2500t. I will let you know how it goes.

The specs are quite the same. I am only worried about the fingerprint reader, and the sound. But I think I found some drivers for those too (No idea if they are included in your driver "packs").

    Regards,

    Mytryl

The only drivers Mujjuman and I include in our drivers packs are for the dv9500t series configured with Nvidia Graphics with a Webcam.

I already have them stored on my backup partition and update them regularly so I don't mind sharing. You should be able to find the drivers that differ on your model from the Manufacturer's Website(s).

    Goodluck! :D

Well guys I was about to send this thing back to HP with a timer but then ran accross this site. WOW what a HUGE HELP! My GOD! Thank you. :) I have the dv9500t:

    T7300
    WebCam
    BlueTooth
    8600m
    4965AGN Wireless
and the rest is all standered. I am having issues getting the LAN, WebCam, and sound to work. Any help would be great and a life saver. Good old college starts soon. :(

    Thanks guys,

Glenn, if you have already installed Windows XP all you need to do is grab one of the driver packs previously posted.

I just updated mine as of today, well yesterday just got done uploading them last night.

WARNING: If you have any issues using the new Nvidia Drivers contained within this Driver Pack feel free to use one of your choice. I use the latest beta drivers because the performance is normally better than the latest official drivers and it includes numerous performance tweaks and other fixes to the drivers themselves.

    Hackez,
Hummmmm.... Not sure... I can get the LAN drivers to install and it knows that it is hooked to my router but it will not recieve any packets. The WebCam does not want to work on the driver and neather does sound. I might have to reformat it and start over again since I had to do a lot of playing with drivers before I found this site.

    Thanks again,
    Glenn

First off, if you have been experimenting with drivers as you mentioned it would not be surprising if you have numerous conflicts driver wise. I would propably advise you reformat and then retry, these drivers have been used and tested on over 6 dv9500t just from people I know using my Driver Pack.

With your current hardware configuration, it is pretty much exactly like mine as long as you install them in the correct order you shouldn't have any issues.

    Hackez,
Thanks for the drivers and install order! I formated again and did them in the correct order and everything works but the webcam still has a "!" on it in the device manager and the LAN card can see that it is conected to something but has limited conectivity.

    Thanks,

Try checking to see if your Network Options are setup correctly. If you are using a router/modem ensure everything is setup correctly and connected securely.

As far as the Webcam Drivers having an issue you can try uninstalling and reinstalling, but Mujjuman is the one who originally provided them. I had no issues whatsoever using that driver pack multiple times so I'm curious why you are having issues.

Ok, Just reporting that my HP9500t has arrived yesterday, and now I´ve made a dual boot with Vista and XP....all working, except the HP TV Tuner..if someone could help me to find this drivers for XP, I will be really grateful :D
BTW, Vista recognizes it as "hauppauge" card, but not says anything else.
And BTW2.....if someone tries to use NORTON GHOST DOS with this little machines, you MUST use with the "/noide" switch.....it really works and "see" the SATA drive :D

    Download the file:
    http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/software/install_cd/cd-digital-34a.exe
and inside the folder "Drivers" are the drivers for this WinTV XP card ;)
First execute "HcwDriverInstall.exe" to install the driver itself and later run "setup.exe" to install the software.
    Enjoy

    Hey gang:

I've got a DV9535nr... Everything is working except sound...
I'm on my 4th pass of reinstalling everything (XP included).

Shouldn't the 9535nr be the same as the 9500t?

Any ideas why my sound might not be working?

The Realtek HD Audio controller shows up in device manager but "cannot start" due to error code 10.

When you guys install the drivers, anything special you guys are going???

Try right clicking it under Device Manager and uninstalling it. Reboot your computer and then attempt to reinstall the drivers again.

If it still has an issue there is a good bet your Laptop has a different sound card.

FWIW the swsetup folder that came on the laptop originally when it had Vista contained an audio folder with the RealTek HD Audio drivers for Vista.

Haven't seen any other audio drivers in that folder.

You have to burn the Windows XP SP2 with SATA Driver to a CD. Windows XP will not be default recognize a DVD, only Vista will do so.

Make sure you install the UAA Audio Driver before attempting to install the Realtek HD Audio Drivers.

If you have and you are still having issues with that specific driver try the driver below:

    ftp://202.65.194.211/pc/audio/WDM_R173.zip

    Hey,

I just ordered my 9500t and I too will be going to XP. From what i've read, it seems you guys figured out almost all there is to figure out. I just had a few questions:

    1. Are there really no drivers for the TV Tuner in XP?
    2. Does the remote work in XP (can i set it up for some other media center software?)
    3. Can i get the HP "Quick Play" software back and use it in XP?

winux, sad but true.......maybe we can live without the remote control in XP.
    Download the file:
    http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/software/install_cd/cd-digital-34a.exe
Extract it´s contents with WINRAR to a folder and FIRST!!! execute "HcwDriverInstall.exe" to install the driver for XP and LATER run "setup.exe" to install the software.

How do I accomplish this task? I have downloaded the HP service pack for XP HP Quicklaunch Buttons Ver. 6.10B.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3224058&lang=en

When installed, apparently on C: drive, the buttons do not work.

    How do I get this operation on the D: Drive. Right now, when I press the DVD button on the quick launch button menu, it starts the OS. I found the movies will not play in Windows Media player w/sound; VLC remedies this problem. {Google it}

I formatted the HP Recovery stuff off the D drive, so all I got showing now for folders is the recycler, (it is on the hit list)

I guess I need direction here for loading the quick launch buttons properly, thanks in advance.

This laptop Loves XP-Pro; every thing is working and playing well together! (have not tried any 3D games eg. “Call of Duty 2” or the latest pc games.

    I purchased a new ~ 1 Month old 9500t. Now it is running  XP-Pro Thanks “notebookreview.com: and nlite!

Bootable dual layer DVD Slip-streamed w/sp-2 and sata drivers, the rest I battled with.
    T7300 1meg ram 8600m GS w/o fingerprint reader
Note: do not load the Conexat drivers for audio as listed on the HP web site, it is a trap :( plus the reltechk driver on the hp website is outdated, go to the reltech website for the latest.
I do have 2 devices listed in the device manager which I disabled (see previous post)

p.s. It is funny HP said I”voided” the warranty on my laptop because I loaded an earlier version of windows Ha,ha,ha lol

@ MUJJUMAN: First off, great job on the guide!!! :notworthy: That's quite a lot of work you did and I'm really in awe. That said, please don't take my question the wrong way. I am the type of person that needs every question answered before I jump into the pool.

My question (and worry) is as follows:

You seem to have found XP drivers for all the devices on the 9500, yet HP has only 3 (of about eleventy-billion that are required) listed on their website.

Where'd you find all the drivers, are you SURE they all work? Any conflicts or problems?

I'm this close to buying a 9500, but the thought of Vista makes me ill. B/T XPSP2 being ultra reliable and me having good AV and FW software of my own, I see no reason to use Vista.

Purchasing the 9500 would require a wipe and reload to XPSP2 for me to be happy. Ergo, before I plunk down my pennies, I want to be sure that XP will run PERFECTLY.

Thanks again for the guide and thanks for any answers that you or other folks can provide.

    Mike D
