I'd recommend 2 GB of RAM, but otherwise that is a solid choice.

Bill
EDIT: I didn't scroll to the end to see that Sandt38 had already said the same thing. -
And if I like to upgrade the memory in the future to 2 GB,I can't do "trade in"?
Only buying a new 2 sticks of memory?
Brodaus
I haven't ordered it yet,but i wan't to buy it.
In the Country I live in,there are only Pre-Built models of dv6000t,I can upgrade only the HD and the RAM,or to buy another model. -
So you cannot find a pre-built dv6000t that has the configuration you want with 2GB's RAM? For instance, my notebook is pre-built to the configuration in my signature, and I think that same config dv6275ea ( http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?docname=c00852755&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN) is available in other countries, I think.
At any rate, you could sell the original memory, but I don't know about trading it in.

I feel so left out. I went with the dv6000z, so I won't officially be a dv6000t owner. *sad face*
Broadus: I notice you have the HP TV Tuner with ATSC. How is it? Is the reception pretty good? -
hi,
I just received my HP DV 6000T and am really frustrated. For some reason, the computer won't connect to my wireless network for more than 10 seconds without disconnecting. When it is connected, the speed is so slow that the page doesn't even start to load without disconnecting again.
Does anyone have any suggestions of how to remedy this?
The network isn't the problem because all the other computers in the house are running fine.
Thanks -
2. Concerning the Tuner, it came with the pre-built system I bought and I haven't tried it out yet. I intend to, though. However, other posters have said good things about it. -

No the other computers are not using Vista. The router maker is Linksys. The internet works when I connect the cable directly to the computer, but wireless doesn't seem to work.
Also, when I do get a weak connection - google.ca works but no other website does.
Thanks -
It has to be a driver problem with the Linksys wireless router. Check out this page for help: http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_CASupport_C1&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1169671929625&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper.
Let us know if you get it working.

This may seem like something only an idiot (like myself) would do, but I was experiencing similar problems when I changed my desktop to a wireless connection to match my other PC and found that the connection was terrible. Turns out that I wasn't connected to my network XD. My neighbors had recently bought a wireless router and my access card had defaulted to their network instead of my own (Since mine was secured and it wasn't able to connect without my input of the WPA key). When I checked my wireless card's HTML configuration utility, I saw the problem and was able to fix it, no problems since.
-
"Idiot" is probably a bit strong, but we've all been there, and I often "frequent" the experience. Chalk it up to another valuable learning experience so that you can help somebody else down the road.
-
Anybody else have this happen? I ordered my dv6000t last night. I was out all day today and when I got home tonight there was a message on my machine from a Wolfgang at HP wanting "more information". I'm wondering if its because I used a brand new Visa card and it's a high amount. Is this common?
-
copytekk: I didn't have any problems. I think you should be very careful about that call. Make sure its legit, and all that. Can't hurt to be safe!
And to the world: My Computer Arrived! Whoot!
Such a beautifull machine it is. I love it! I had a big scare when it arrived from China; the box had a big hole right in the middle, and you could reach down and touch the computer through it!But it was fine. Vista run very well. I have had a few minor issues with it, mainly about drivers. The preinstalled drivers did not work very well at all, and Counter Strike: Source lagged up very badly. However, I updated them with beta drivers from NVidia, and now the computer plays games better then my Desktop! I never imagined it would be this good. Vista has issues, but its benefits outweigh the costs.
I do have one issue though.
This is the border of one section of the chassis of my computer to another, on the right side. Note how nicely it fits together. (Fuzzy image aside)
This is the same part, on the left side of my computer. See how its a lot wider? Has anyone else had that problem? The top chassis section feels somewhat loose.
Meh. Much love to HP and this computer! Whoo!

I think I may end up just installing XP. I didn't want Vista, but couldn't find a place that sold the DV6000t with XP. If I were to do this, would I have any drives issues etc.?
The other option is to buy another router. Both will probably end up costing the same.
Thanks -
I wouldn't think you would have any drive issues with XP. Are the other computers not running on XP?
As for me, I would buy a new router instead of buying XP. I like Vista fine, and things are going to move either in that direction or folks will use a version of Linux. Besides, then your router will be newer and more up-to-date.

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, I am a complete noob when it comes to routers. If I were to buy a new router, would it be a matter of just disconnecting my current one and putting in the new one? Or would I have to do something with / talk to my current internet service provider?
Thanks -
No, it should nothing to do with your ISP, though sometimes there are conflicts that have to be worked around. You should simply be able to connect it to your modem and install drivers, etc. Usually a CD with instructions on it come with the router to help you set it up. Just make sure it is Vista-compatible.
Bill -
As Bill said, there should be no issues with your ISP. I found for wireless networking that vista is a quick clean network install.

I think the worst part of this laptop is the keyboard, it really is cheap. however, the other parts are fantastic.

Sandt,
Just wondering if you know the easiest way to convert a 7zip archived file into playable video format?? Any help would be great.
Dave -
You will have to unzip the file (go to 7zip.org for the software) to it's native format. Once you have it offloaded determine the file type and I can get you on the right track. 7zip is simply a compressed file, similar to a .zip or .rar file that needs to be unpacked.

I wasn't crazy about the keyboard, thinking the larger keys were a little "loud" and not as "tight" my previous HP Pavilion notebook. I think I've just gotten used to these now and I rarely think about it. It is a really good computer, though.
Now, do I really want to invest the time messing with Linux or simply be content with Vista? . . . :confused2:

Linux on a notebook? Have fun finding hardware drivers!
-
The only driver hunting I needed to do was for the video card (NVIDIA) and the wireless card (Broadcom; windows drivers for ndiswrapper). If you have an intel video card and an intel wireless card, they'd be supported out of the box.
And Broadus, if you want to try Linux, make sure you keep it on multi-boot. I'd say that it's worth trying. If anything, it'd be a learning experience. And make sure you use an updated version because the support of some of the stuff in these notebooks were added in the later versions of the kernel. -
I bought my D6000t over a month ago and i found that recently i type and half of the letters im hitting dont show up. Its very annoying and my comp its self is really slow sometimes. is it because i dont have enough memory or harddrive? I cant stand how slow it is sometimes. and the typing thing is really getting to me.

. It seems like you went for the cheapest components when setting it up and sadly you got what you paid for (no offense
). The easiest way for you to remedy your speed issue would be to install it more RAM. Another 512MB should be enough
. I wouldn't have gone with that processor either. I would have at least gotten a Core Duo (for $75). But you wouldn't be able to upgrade that as easily.
Upgrading the RAM will be the easiest route to ease your troubles. You can buy RAM for it at like Circuit City or Best Buy. I'm guessing you aren't savvy enough to install it yourself, and I know Best Buy definitely has a service to install it for you, but it cost money.
-
Something similar happened to me a couple of years ago. It turned out that when I got a new laptop it wouldn't connect because I had the router's access control set to only accept connections from listed MAC addresses. I had neglected to add the new laptop the list of accepted MAC addresses.

OEM ftw!
btw, i too was quiet disappointed with the keyboard when i first got it. definitely was not on the same standard with the rest of the machine and it is quiet loud. i had hope for it to be more dampened and much more quiet and less "plasticky" feel to it. right now im thinking of returning my machine to costco and having my friends dad buy it for me with his 30% discount and 2gb instead of 1gb of ram -
Gee, I think the keyboard is great...maybe the best laptop keyboard I have ever had...nice, solid feel to it...nice and quiet.

Are You sure that 1 GB it isn't enough for Vista?
P.S. Sorry for my English if I made some mistakes -
Vista will run on 1GB, but my understanding is that it uses at least half of that for itself. It will just run more quickly with 2GB RAM.
It's a shame that pre-builts are offered in your country with more than 1GB. I wonder what the reasoning is behind that.

I got mine today!!! I love it!! This thing is fast!
I am having problems setting up a network to transfer all my stuff of my desktop so I think I am going to buy the Belkin Transfer Cable. I am sitting in my living room right now and not stuck in my room. I love that.
So far no real problems or concerns other than I want all my media switched over. I do have one actually. I have the CPU and Memory monitor in the sidebar and it is saying that it is using like 45% of my memory!!! What can I do? -
Remove bloatware. Its a memory, bandwidth, HDD, cpu, and battery hog.
-
Well I took of Norton when I first started and I just took off Microsoft Office and some of the HP Games. Its now at like 32%. How much of the HP stuff can I take off? There really isnt much extra stuff on here. I downloaded Firefox, AVG, Ad-Awar, Spy-Bot, and CCleaner. All the AOL and stuff like that did not show up in the Uninstall Progams.
-
-
Is this HP Health Adviser thing useful for anything or are we better removing it? How about this HP Update thing, is it just another way for them to update the bloatware or is there some thing worth wile hidden in there?
-
hye,
i recently bought the dv6000t and always hear a highpitched sound when i am in front of it..does anyone face the similar problem or have a solution for the problem?
I have one more problem with it that is the wireless signal it always shows 3 bars even if i am right beside the wireless router..i tried installing a new gadjet and even that shows 4 bars but not the complete signal..
Thanks

Hi everyone.
I'm from india. I got a DV6137TX yesterday.
its a Core 2 Duo 5500 (1.66 Ghz)
1 gig Ram
Built in bluetooth and intel 3945
built in webcam and mics
Nvidia geforce go 7400
Its not a configuration like most of you have on here but its the only config availible to us in india. My notebook cost me about 1200 USD if you convert.
I just want to say thanks to everyone here because you guys really influenced my decision to buy a 6000 series notebook. Reading this thread really convinced me that this was the notebook to buy. And even tho my config is substantially lower than all the people on here from the US, it still rocks.
Thanks -
The wireless signal issue seems to be a driver issue. Almost all of us find our wireless signal at 3 bars regardless of strength of signal.

Hi! my notebook's fan is often making alot of noise (even with little or no programs running. How can I resolve this? It isn't on anything and I was told to install the f.15 bios driver but it did not help. Right now it isn't as bad as it can be but I can definately hear it with the tv on a quite loud volume.
-
Describe the noise your fan is making. Mine sounds like a fan. Is yours making some other noise?
Bill -
yes, a loud fan noise. It really does become a pain listening to it.
-
It should not be loud at all. Mine is noticeable but not in any way annoying, much less "a pain." It sounds (no pun intended
) like a defect. I would return it for an exchange. You certainly should not hear it above the television.
Bill -
How do I return it? This may be a dumb question put this is the first pc i ordered online.
