Quick question guys, after I shut down my laptop (still plugged), I can hear buzzing/whining noise inside the laptop, it's not as loud as the whining sound of the Duo 2 Core processor when the laptop's on, but you have to stick your ear really close to the cooling fan area to hear it.
I mean, is this normal for a laptop? I checked my brother's old zv6000 laptop when it's off, I don't hear anything buzzing.
So do you guys have the same symptom? or is my laptop a defect?
By the way I have the 12-cell battery, thanks. -
therock and Ag76: The files on the recovery disk are the same one that are on your D drive partition. The reason it is a good idea to have the recovery disk is that if your hard drive becomes corrupted, you may not be able to access your D Drive. If you have the bootable recovery disk, you can access the recovery tools contained on the disk. I bought the recovery DVD too, and am glad I did.

Have you also read the results of my trial burnings? Please see my previous message #950.
What do you think? -
Marengo,
i read them earlier but wanted a bit of time to do some research before I replied. I have found a couple things out about your drive.
First, the Matsh ita DVD - RAM UJ - 850s is actually a Panasonic UJ850
second, here is a firmware page: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?category=14&manufactor=18
Here is a hacked firmware page
According to a site I go to, there have been issues with this drive and certain media, so it appears you might be right. I had pretty much set my mind to there not being a media issue, because you had issue with Verbs. I am extremely deep in burning films and music, and have had my hands on and evaluated tons of media. The very best media is Taiyo Yuden, very, very closely followed by Verbatim. I am a bit confused as to why IMGBurn is not issuing an ink label, as it usually does. However, with this being A CD media and not a DVD media I could see that being the issue. I have never loaded CD media with IMG Burn I always use EAC for music and Windows drag-n-drop or NERO for data. The discussion led to the drives simply not recognizing alot of RW media.
I'm going to set down to dinner, and when I get back I will investigate the Panasonic version of this burner -
waverider969: I had similar issues with Vista. I finally installed CCLeaner, ran it and fixed my registry problems. My machiner rocks again! CCLearner is the best registry cleaner I have ever used.

therock: No, I wouldn't delete the recovery files in the D partition. What if you misplace your recovery DVD?

I might be presumptuous but are owners of the compag v6000t allowed here? It seems to be the "little sister or bro" of the HP, non?
-
Don't get to excited about the dv6000t had mine less than a week and the screen went blank, no boot screen, no hard drive activity, nothing just the blue lights on the upper console. That was the end to that. Sent it back to HP for repair or replace 3/13/07 it arrived today the 15th at the service center by fedex, fast!!! They say they will have it back to me by the 23rd of this month. I'm wondering what component went bad???
Don't mean to discourage anyone but these things do happen, hopefully not anymore after this............. -

HP Games
Hi,
my hp dv 6000t game installed with many HP Games. Are these on a trial basis? If so, how long is the trial? Also, how much does it cost to purchase them?
Thanks! -

So, I dont think that my firmware is that old. Keep in mind that I bought the notebook only a week ago.
So when I first saw the problems with this notebooks recorder I immediately feared of a crappy drive. Now I would say that it is only a serious incompatibility problem with a lot of CD-RWs disks. I still think it is a shame because Verbatim media is well known and heavily used in Europe and it still is a surprise for me.
I hope that the problem affects only CD-RWs and not DVDs or CD-Rs but I cannot be sure yet. Now the point is to try to find which media is most compatible with this low quality recorder. I cant understand how I can find it other than trial and error.
Do you have any ideas about this?
Let's hope that they fix the media compatibility issues by releasing a newer firmware and I also hope that the drive isn't really broken, because I am not totally sure yet... -
, but I hope you find this site helpful. I certainly have.
Concerning "princesses," we have three, but more like ages 28 (with three children), 25 (with two), and 22 (with a full-time teaching job).

Thanks thats some Strong advice..I was thinking I would get a processor and a Ram upgrade whenever possible. Since Im pretty sure you can buy laptop processors and Ram is easy to buy and replace anyway.. as for the drive, i dont think i need an upgrade cuz i had a Lacie 500 gig external and a portable 120 gig external that i was using for data storage with my old desktop.. so im using those to supplement the 120 gigs i have on this.. Thanks tho.. I was wondering, Do you think its viable to upgrade to Vista home premium?? (a free upgrade from HP) because i was thinking i would keep XP media Centre for a while..
-
tj,
You may want to pose the question about upgrading to Vista Home Premium on the Windows OS and Software forum. You will get more opinions just because more folks will frequent that forum than this particular thread.
Personally, I like Vista Home Premium after having XP Pro, which I also liked.
The only pause I would have with your situation is that I this Vista runs best with 2GB RAM, since it uses more RAM than XP. However, ask the question in the Windows forum and provide your HP's configuration.

I'm looking at a few dv6000 retail units, and was wondering if there's a big performance difference between a core2duo t5200 and t5500? The 5200 one falls just in my budget range while 5500 goes over (both have 2 gbs of ram). Is 5200 a lot slower?
-
I cannot find a t5500. The 5200 is the 1.6GHz. See the list below from HP's order site. There may be a propritary vender code?
I would get all the processor and ram I could get. I trimmed out the Webcam and TV tuner to get to the 2.0GHz and 12 cell battery and love the speed.
Intel(R) Pentium(R) dual core T2060(1.6GHz/1MB L2)
Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo T2250 (1.73 GHz/2MB L2Cache)
Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo T5200(1.60GHz/2MB L2Cache)
Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo T5600(1.83GHz/2MB L2Cache)
Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo T7200 (2.0GHz/4MB L2Cache) -
I think the speed difference between a T5200 and a T5500 would be negligible. I do think I remember seeing the T5500 processor offered some time back. It seems that it was a 1.7 GHz. The T5600, if I remember correctly, replaced the T5500 offering.
So, my suggestion is that if you can afford the T5200 and cannot afford a T5500 (or T5600), go with the T5200. You probably won't notice the difference.

Hey guys, it's been a while since my last post. I just got my express upgrade from Hp yesterday.
I have a question to those who have done the express upgrade on their dv6000t. Will there still be a HP portion on the hard drive? Or can you remove it when you upgrade to vista (home premium for me)?
Also, does Vista do a clean installation?
I really want to do a clean installation of it because I don't want to have XP files and files that I have in my new OS.
Last question; what have been the problems you have experienced after you installed Vista. -
-
-
Thanks. I bought the HP recovery disks for windows MC2005 when I bought my laptop. I'm backing up my files right now. Should I uninstall my programs before upgrading? or is it okay to leave them installed?
-
I would suggest a clean install over an upgrade especially since you have backed up our stuff. -
Thanks.
I will go with the clean install instead. I just wasn't sure whether or not it would affect vista's installation. I will let you guys know in a couple of hours of how it went (goes). Hopefully I will be posting in my new Vista Home Premium OS! -
-
If you got an "upgrade" disc it will want to see somthing to upgrade from.
Perhaps after the format it will ask to see the orriginal XP disc? -
-
Well I just finished installing Vista! It looks great! I love it!
One question,
do you guys know any good firewall and Anti virus software that will work with vista for free. I used to have ATT yahoo antivirus and antispy software, but they do not yet have support for Vista. I had zone alarm, but that does not work either. I want a reliable programs that will keep my comp safe while the ATT yahoo software gets updated. -
For firewall, I would have recommended ZA. I'm not sure about alternatives.
Bill -
BlueAmber
Steer clear of ZA. I used it for a while, and it is terribly invasive. I noticed it slowed my system down terribly. When you try to remove it, it really screws up your computer too. I have personally known 3 people who have used it (including myself) and all of us had bad experiances with it (in XP of course)
I like Avast, personally. The freeware is excellent, and the pay version is even better. One of my co-worker's brother turned us on to it. It is one of the least invasive, most complete AVs I have ever used.
Review at c-net
Softpedia
A slew of others. -
I had forgotten about Avast, but I remember reading some really good reviews about it. AVG is good, but its scanning the computer is slow, IMO. Avast is a solid choice.
Bill -
Thank you Sandt38 and Broadus.
I installed Avast, and now I am waiting for my registration key.
Though still no firewall that anyone recommends? -
-
Agreed. I'll probably get Zone Alarm again when they have their Vista version ready, but in the meantime the vista windows firewall isn't bad.
-
Thanks for the info.
I have another question. I had Lojack for laptops on my laptop, so does that mean that its gone? I went to the website and it hasn't called since yesterday (which happens to be when I installed vista) Is it possible that it was erased? I tried to call my laptop from their website, but it failed. -

Actually it's the February edition of PC Mag I was looking at. Good stuff, though.

Hello,
A lot of users have been curious about the current version of Comodo Firewall Pro and Windows Vista compatibility, hopefully this will answer a few questions.
1. Currently Comodo Firewall Pro 2.4 does not support any version of Windows Vista and does not support any version of Windows that is 64 bit.
2. Windows Vista and Windows 64 bit compatibility will be added in the next version of Comodo Firewall (version 3.0.x.x).
3. The current beta release date for the next version of Comodo Firewall Pro is currently scheduled for April 16, 2007 however this is not carved in stone and it may change.
If you have any other questions regarding Comodo Firewall Pro Vista and 64 bit compatibility please feel free to PM me or one of the other Moderators/admins.
Justin -
Oh well. Guess we'll have to wait a few weeks.
-
Thanks. It looks like I'll have to get by with Windows firewall for another month or so. Still, I'm glad to find out about Comodo. It's hard to believe it's free.

Sandt, I have another wonderful media question for you
. Ha ha. I have a folder full of over 7 gigs of dvd movie files, dvd info files, and "back up files of the IFO". How do you recomend putting them on a DVD ISO? Thanks in advance, AGAIN. Haha
Here is a pic of the files:
