The program that resolves the noise issue is here:
http://cpu.rightmark.org/products/rmclock.shtml
Make sure you have it launch at startup. You want to go to the Management menu and have it run the HLT command when OS is idle. You can also configure it to stay minimized after it boots up.

Thanks gummiworm, that really helped me.
Can someone pleaseeeeee answer these other questions
1. Do any of you have dead/STUCK pixels or screen issues?
2. For the recovery discs, is it true that once one dvd fails due to bad quality, the program still IMPLODES itself
from these things, and being scared of future out of warranty break downs, im actually thinking of getting a MACBOOK over this. Its a big difference, i know. -
Dude, its not that bad. Good luck on the dark side, if you so choose that path.
-
You're worrying too much. Remember, folks who have no problems are less likely to post that fact than folks who do have problems with their computers. The dv6000t is a really good computer.
Buy a MacBook if you wish. Two things to consider, though. 1. You will spend more more for a comparably equipped MacBook than you will for an HP. 2. Plenty of people have issues with their MacBooks. Do a web search. The perfect computer hasn't been built, and if it had we couldn't afford it.

Well I am curious what kind of battery life everyone gets and more importantly what type of battery they use.
I have a standard 6-cell and am lucky if I get an single hour away from an outlet. -
I don't get much more than that with my 6-cell, but I rarely use it. When I do, I still have everything going full-tilt, so I'm not trying to conserve to get more life. If I needed to be away from the outlet, I would get a 12-cell.
Bill -
2. I don't understand your question. I purchased the recovery disc, and there is only one, so if one of them fails they all fail. It is highly doubtful that a pressed disc will fail anyways. Disc failure is common on low quality burned discs because of ink degradation, but a pressed disc is formed in a different manner, so failure is unlikely. -
), so it doesn't matter to me. I just like the way the 12 cell angles the computer.

anyone with 1 gig of ram 1.6 intel 2 running ok with no problems on vista? i was at my college bookstore and i saw a sony vaio wid only 1 gig and it seems to run fine, i dont get why ppl are sayin it wont handle vista on 1 gig?
-
and oh yeah its vista premium that im asking about.
256mb geforce go 7400
1 gig (512mb x 2)
Intel 2 Core Duo 1.60ghz
160gb 5400 rpm -

I'm not sure that anyone's saying 1GB RAM won't run Vista Home Premium. After all, MS does recommend that as the minimum.
What I say (I'll let others speak for themselves) is that 1GB will not run Vista with Aero turned on as seamlessly as 2GB will, especially if you are involved with multitasking or some fairly memory intensive applications. 1GB RAM will run it, it will just be slower.

downloade rmclock to remove the buzz but I didn't use the "Run HLT Command when OS is idle". I used the procedure here
http://forum.tabletpcreview.com/showthread.php?t=3516
I can't get rmclock to start when the computer boots even with rmclock checked to start during startup. Vista is blocking it from starting. Anyone have an idea how to prevent Vista from doing this? -
I'm considering buying one of these with a t5200, 1gb or 2gb (probably 1), vista home basic, go 7400. Would vista basic run well on 1gb? Also, is the fan noise problem common?

I really don't think missing 1GB is going to effect Aero, it could with integrated graphics, but most of our machines have discrete and I believe the GPU does most of the heavy lifting.
I weighed the options and decided to spend the money on the TV tuner and I am glad I did, more on that later.
My rational, I read a lot about superfetch and the RAM requirements of Aero and my favorite applications. PC World ran an article entitled Vista: Not Slow One convincing piece of evidence was a graph on pg 20 of PC World Feb 2007 showing the boost the extra gig gives you on various set-ups and various application tasks. Between Photo shop, Multitasking and Far Cry the difference was very muted. 21% was the highest number and that was a HP laptop running Photo shop. No other number was above 11% with the majority between 1% and 5%. This was enough for me to push the decision to buy out a year or so. Aero runs seamlessly on my machine.
Apps on machines with integrated graphics did run between 2-16% slower though with Aero on (pg 22).
I am very happy with my TV tuner, I record Dirty Jobs and Mythbusters now and watch them whenever I want. I can look ahead for the next 2 weeks and see what is going to be on when, what episode it is, when it was originally aired etc. I have not seen the Red Green show since I moved away from Minnesota and with my TV tuner and Windows Media Center's help I was able not only to find out when it was on, but set it to record the series. Pretty cool to me anyway. My point is that the tuner is adding functionality and entertainment to my machine that an extra gig of RAM simply couldn't have. With memory prices falling like crazy and Hp being a little proud of their memory, the tuner was a better place for my money. Next summer I will buy two 1gb sticks and finally see what I am missing. I have to imagine it would help me when I process 40MB .tif files in GIMP.
Anyone with 1GB experiencing any problems or slowdowns?
Just my thoughts

does anyone know if their MOZILLA firefox is messing up when you guys first install it. The whole window like shakes and jumps around like an earthquake. i downloaded the newest version too, also would most of you guys just use IE 7?
-
also im a nerd at this, does anyone know how to identify what screen type you have with vista??? thanks!
-
newb* not nerd lol
-
I don't have that experience, and I'm running the latest version of FF and have the same computer as you.
Bill -
Click the Start button --> Control Panel --> Hardware and Sound --> Device Manager --> View Hardware and Devices (give permission) --> double click Monitors --> double click Generic PnP Monitor --> click Details --> from the pull down menu click Hardware Ids. Mine says "Monitor\SEC3345," signifying it's a Samsung (Samsung Electronics Company or Corporation, I think). My Samsung is fine.
Bill -
Also, don't use IE7, stick with Firefox, it's amazing. -
YAY i have samsung too!!! thanks for the help guys!!!
-
-
Mine has an SEC gloss screen. Looks great to me.
-
Like lots of MFG's, Samsung produces products at both ends of the scale, but for the most part, top or low end they are all pretty reliable.
If you guys find youself looking for a great desktop monitor toward the high end scale but at a working mans price look at the 215TW.
Stay away for the 220BW & 226BW as they are low end panels. OK for gaming but horrible at anything else. -
haha i wasnt being sarcastic or anything nor was i complainin when i said i have the samsung, i heard its much better than the AUO or something? i dont know
-
the problem with firefox is caused by the bookmarks toolbar-disable it or move it around, it'll stop shaking.
By the way, has anyone else noticed that the conexant sound card has a terrible buffer; my minimum length with no underruns is ~150ms! By comparison, my old desktop works at ~25. -

Just a public service announcement. futureshop online in Canada has refurbished dv6000t's with TL-50, 80 gig HD, 1 gig RAM, 90 day warranty for can$699, which is roughly usd$600.

yeah i want to use FF 2.0 but like when i click on a hyperlink for some reason, it still opens up in a new IE 7 window, EVEN when i have ff set as default browser. even went to start, default programs, and clicked everything. its as if vista forces us to use ie7. (This happens when I click on someone's profile hyperlink in AIM lite) and IE 7 will be opened instead of firefox. anyone got any ideas????
-
Vista just likes IE better ;-). I have never been able to fix links in certain programs that only want to open in IE, short of uninstalling it totally. You can always just copy/paste the link URL into FF, but that's the best I can give you.
-
Do you have a specific example?
Bill -
-
To Broadus,
this only happens with AIM 5.9 When i view someone's profile, and they have a link in there, i click on the hyperlink url and it opens their website, but it opens up with IE 7, instead of firefox. -
could this possibly just be aim's fault? because this hasnt happened to my other programs or anything so far.. and another QUICK random question is...
what is the longest time period your computer battery can last (6 cell lithium ion) for all of you dv6000t owners out there -
Sorry, I have a 12 cell... About 4 1/2 hours I would say. -
I contacted HP tech support about my Synaptics touch pad settings reverting back to defaults after a reboot and found out my Logitech VX Revolution mouse drivers are the cause conflicting with Synaptic's drivers. The info was provided on the Synaptic's webb site FAQ list. So no prob. I'll just set it every time because I love my Vx mouse. And rarely use the pad anyway.
So during the trouble shooting with HP they never asked me if I had another pointing device installed, but did recommend I remove and re-install Synaptics. Ahem!
They then recommended I update my BIOS and sent me the link to it. I already have BIOS version F.16.
Now to my point. After hearing of the whining noises and fan sounds or constantly running complaints and not having any of these symptoms on my system I wonder if the latest BIOS is a fix. You guys may want to check your BIOS version. And while you are in there add a couple of seconds to how long it is displayed at boot-up. Geesh mine flicked in and out so fast it took a few boots for me to catch it. F10. And setup a BIOS password, as it practically renders it usless to a theife.
The enhancments are: (No.2 Being the eye-opener)
Adds support for Intel Celeron M Processors.
Improves system performance with an updated CPU thermal function.

Anyone know what the difference in battery life is between a high-capacity 6-cell and a 12-cell battery?
I'm thinking of getting a dv6000 to replace my dv1175 that I have with a 12-cell and I am able to get about 4 hours on a full charge.
I'll probably get Vista Home Premium and then do the Windows Anytime Upgrade to Ultimate, since that's really the OS I want. I don't understand why HP doesn't offer Ultimate on their 14" and 15.4" models.
I had read somewhere else about problems with the drivers for the built-in web-cam. Have those been resolved or are there still issues?
Thanks -

Hi Everyone
Im new here - im just a bit bored - waiting for my dv6000t
Which is coming TOMMOROW..
anyway i was wondering if there was anyone with the same spec as me and if they could tell me what the SuperPi figure for 2M and 1M was.
Thanks
Will -
-
-
there is a program called SuperPi (Do a wikipedia search) and basically it times how long it takes to calculated Pi to a certain number of places - 32K 64K up to around 10 Million.
I just wanted to know the figure so i could compare it.
For example im on a friends computer here..
Sony SZ3XWP it was T7200 + 2GB RAM basically the same spec, but it was around $3000.00 so i wanted to see if i could better this and for half the price.
Will -
The time for the Sony was:
2 Million = 1 min 3 secs
1 Million = 26 secs -
And All I know is this thing smokes the tires. -
how bad is the whining?
i will btw (therock)
