Hi all, I just got my dv6000t and I know I need to get rid of the bloatware but I'm not sure how to go about it-is there a thread? I did a search but there are about 10 different ways to go about it and since I am not that tech savvy I'm not sure of the best option.
TIA

My HP total care advisor is telling me i have two critical updates (Mobile Intel 945GM Express Chipset Family Driver and NVIDIA GeForce Series Video Driver) and both of them always have a download failure. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get these installed?
-
i have a question for anyone with a dv6000t with windows vista premium...how long does it take for everything to load at startup for you, considering you have a junkfree startup? Mine seems to load ok, but then the network takes at least 45+ seconds to connect to the internet, where the screen will flash before i can actually use the computer.....
-
After mine boots up, it seems to be instantly connected to the internet.
Bill -
are you running wired or wireless? thanks!
-
I'm running wireless.
-
what do you have on startup by any chance? this is really weird...does your video driver or display flash when you load vista? we have the same computer too haha
-
I really have everything in startup. I haven't deleted much of the bloatware. We do have the same computer, don't we?
I'm not sure if the HP Wireless Assistant helps in this case, but I have it on startup. Did you get rid of that? I'm just shooting in the dark.

well in the face of the new 6500 laptops it seems this thread is dying..
that would be sad.
I have a question. I was hoping someone would answer it. My CPU currently shows a temperature of about 56 degrees celcius and the palm rest gets very very hot when the machine is in use. I was wondering if anyone has this kind of temperature or if someone can tell me what temps are acceptable on a C2D?
Also i'm experiencing some creaky noises from the front of my machine where the silver part joins the bottom over the wifi switch. And this is the second DV6000 im experiencing this in. Can someone verify if they're having the same problem or whether im the only unlucky soul with this problem??
Thanks. I much appreciate it. Dont know what most people would do without discussion forums and this one is one of the best (and most helpful) i've ever seen. -
-
Concerning temperature, what bios are you running? The f.16 does not run hot, but the later f.25 and f.26 do, though the 26 is a bit cooler than the 25. I tried the f.25 but went back to f.16 because of temperature issues. The fan runs more on the f.16, it seems, but at least it's cooler.
Concerning the "creaky noises," I have that too if I press down on the palm rest. It shouldn't be, and it's a build issue to me. I didn't have that problem with my older HP ze4200.
Bill -
Hey.. That was quicker than I expected. Thanks. Oh and I kind of figured even if no one else answered, Bill would.
@R4000 : Mine's running between 50-60 so I guess thats close to yours and I guess its ok then.
@Broadus: I'm using f.26, since I generally prescribe to the 'newer is better' theory until proven wrong.I can deal with the temps its just that I didnt know if it was normal or abnormal and what sort of effect it was gonna have on the life of the machine you know.. If I had a T7400 or some similar processor, I wouldnt mind a little heat, But mine is a T5200 so I figured it should kinda run cooler.
The creaky noises are annoying the heck out of me. I already sent one machine back cuz of these and now I'm upset cuz that had better components and this one still has the noise. After using this for about 5 months regularly and hard, I must say, I am just about ok with the build quality of this thing. And HP support in India is not very good.
So I guess I wont bother trying to get HP to fix the annoying creaks..
Thanks -
Hi everyone
I recently upgraded the operating system on my HP pavilion dv6000t from Windows XP MCE to Vista Home premium (I had received the upgrade DVDs from HP a while back, but did not want to risk the actual upgrade till last week).
Well... so far so good. Everything seems to work fine.
But i am having a problem with my HP Mobile Express remote control. It used to work fine earlier with the Media center edition and i could control volume, pause and play my movies etc.
But after the upgrade to Vista, i do not see any IR (infrared) devices in the hardware manager. So it seems that Vista does not detect the IR by default. Anyone else who has experienced a similar problem. Can anyone point me to the download location for IR drivers for this computer, and how to get the remote working again. Watching movies has become a bit of a pain with regards to volume control.
Thanks -
I'm not sure what the solution is, but I suspect it's driver related. Mine works fine in Vista, but I started out with Vista instead of upgrading from XP
Bill -
same here... had an older 6000 with xp mce installed but never put vista on it.. seems to be a popular issue tho.. the remote control problem..
-
Hi everyone,
What is your average charging time for your dv6000t when you charge it when its off? (lets say you have 5% remaining battery power). -
i think mine takes a little over 2 hours or so..
-
Hey all,
I just ordered the dv6000t laptop as I'm going to need one for college next year. Here are my specs:
Operating System: Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium
Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T5300 (1.73 GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 533MHz FSB)
Display: 15.4" WXGA High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1280 x 800)
Memory: 1GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
Graphics Card: 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 7400
Personalization: HP Imprint Finish + Microphone
Networking: Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection
Hard Drive: 120GB 5400RPM
Primary CD/DVD Drive: SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
Primary Battery: 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
I'm not too concerned with the battery as I don't plan on doing a lot of traveling/ working-on-the-go with the machine. And maybe down the road I'll add an extra Gig of RAM as well. I also managed to save close to $200 with the APP student discount which was really fantastic! -
Congrats! That will work great, they are fast, stylish and have incredible screens, good luck with it. -
Congratulations. I hope it serves you well.

i've got the really creaky laptop too, its driving me crazy!!

I can't find the answer to this one anywhere, so here goes:
What's the best way to clean the screen of my dv6000 laptop? I know that the rag that came with it is used to clean the outside, but what can I use to clean the actual screen? A lightly damp paper-towel? Windex? -
i use that same cloth to clean the screen as well, gets rid of all the fingerprints lol
-
Use microfiber cloth. If you wear glasses, you can use the cloth that came with your glasses because it is designed to not leave any scratches and remove dirt and oil from your glasses. I use the cloth that came with HP for cleaning the case and my glasses microfiber cloth for my LCD screen. Works like a charm.
-
I used the cloth that came with my glasses, and that pretty much did the job. I used a damp paper towel to get rid of a couple of stains or watermarks or something. Thanks for your help!
-
I keep accidentally brushing up against the touchpad with my right palm. I've changed the touchpad settings to maximum palmcheck but i still trigger it sometimes.
I'm thinking about getting a palm rest (the thin microfiber kind) and hoping it will elevate my hand far enough away from the touchpad. My old compaq had the touchpad shifted more to the left; I never had any problems on it.
Also, the laptop palm rest area is too smooth. Any sweat will make that area feel sticky. I think the palm rest will solve that issue too.
Just my 2 cents. -
hi everybody,
i bought a hp pavilion dv6426us but when i open the lid, near the top right corner of the display it says "hp pavilion dv6000" - does a dv6426 fall under the dv6000 series, or has the notebook been mislabled?
oh, and another thing, the "esc" and "~" keys have a hallow feel to them - is this normal? [maybe there's an empty bay beneath the keys..?]
kindest regards. -
Yes, dv6000 is the series; dv6426us is the particular configuration you have.
There is a little difference in those keys, particularly the ESC key, because of their position. Nothing to be concerned about.
Hope you enjoy your computer.
Bill -
thanks bill,
does your dv6275 say dv6000 on the top right corner edge of the display?
on the dv6426us there's a part next to the integrated webcam which says "hp pavilion dv6000" -
I've searched through the archives but the high pitch noise issue isn't clear to me: some say it's Core Duo only, but there are several reports of AMD noise.
I just want to know; if I send my DV6426US to HP, will they fix it? Has anyone had success fixing this noise (without RM Clock and all the other tricks like USB power settings - I've tried them all) from HP, or will I just go long stints without a laptop?
An engineer told me that all electronics resonate but the noise level is adjusted at the design phase. I've exchanged it once but got the same buzzing with the second one as well. It seems to me like the electronics were designed carelessly.
Any thoughts? -
hello all,
i did a disk cleanup on C drive and i remember deleting the space allocated for hibernation. now, obviously the option for hibernate is gone..
any ideas on how to regain the feature?
thanks in advance -
I know this topic is primarily about the DV6000T, and from reading all 179 pages last night and today, I think mine is a DV6000Z due to it having an AMD Turion 64 X2 procesor, so basically, it's the same machine except for the processor type, right?
This is my DV6331EU notebook and it's specifications, AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-56, Vista Home Premium, 2GB RAM, 160GB HD etc etc:
HP Pavilion Media Center dv6331eu Entertainment Notebook PC (GH783EA#ABU) - Specifications
I have had this notebook since May 2007, I have not had any problems with it as yet, no squealing noises, the fan is pretty quiet when it does run, to be honest, I have not used it very much, all I really use it for is playing poker and some browsing, I still prefer my Windows ME desktop, and will carry on using that until it dies, then move over to the notebook.
This whole topic has been very informative, loads of good information, but could someone tell me where on this notebook I can see the temperatures that my CPU and other stuff is running at, couldn't see it mention on the topic?

Plus the ease of holding it to put in and out of the computer bag.
Go 12 cell, you can't go wrong. -

i just went to customize a notebook for a friend and noticed that HP removed the T7200 processor fro the list.whats the reason for that ??

I just got my dv6000t yesterday. I love it! The go7400 overclocks nicley and plys Halo great!

Congratulations. I hope you get good use out of it.
And I thought this thread had died after the dv6500t's had come out.

3 years lojack and complete accidental care
I just want to see/hear your opinions, I'm not interested in creating a heated discussion so people can get mad and begin flaming.
Thanks!
Oh and a quick question, my younger brothers HP laptop is constantly overheating and is hard to reboot.... any suggestions? The laptop is about a year old. -
The 3 years lojack and complete accidental care and the Graphic card option is good. But especially the accidential care. What is the 6000t breakdown?
Have you looked into the bios? Certain versions have been known to cause problems. -
I have not gone back to wade through all of the posts to this thread but I don't remember seeing the following information.
If you have a 6000 series notebook and go to the specific HP website page for your exact model number (e.g. dv6449us) at the HP site, there is a good chance you won't find much documentation in the manuals section. Apparently HP got lazy. Fortunately the data is up on their site under a generic 6000 model number. If you own one of the 6000 series, I suggest you go the following link and download the .pdf guides on this page for future reference. Among other things, there is a service manual as well as a product manual, both of which I have yet to find on my PC. The product tour is better than any of the html stuff on the laptop's help section. The service guide could be invaluable if you have work on your PC after the warranty expires:

I own a V6000 and i love it!
I have got only 2 times BSOD; i was running 2 Messengers ;D
What i dont like about it?
No screen locks (that thing that locks the screen from opening)
Only 3 USB ports
I cant change the quick play's button to open something else
The screen hinge is pretty tough; it gives a some kind of a "chchk" sound when trying to open, no greasing? Does anyone else have this same (problem)?
Crap, just noticed this is FOR Dv600T! ****o! -
Count me in guys, I sent my new Dell 1520 back for a full refund because it was a piece of crap and I ordered a new DV6000T Thursday for 930.00 after student discount and taxes and it says estimated ship date is Sept 3rd.
Here are the specs and I have a couple questions after words-

HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope
First what is a home office store in box envelope?
How will the Nvidia 7400 compare to the intel GMA3100 that my Dell had?
When on battery saver mode how many hours will I get with the high capacity 6 cell battery? BTW with a standard 6 cell my 1520 got between 2 1/2 - 3 hours when just surfing the net.
Also after researching this PC before buying I am starting to think that the
DV6000 series has to be one of the top selling laptops in the United States from all the post and reviews on the net. I am sure I will be sticking around here alot and wish I knew this site existed before I ordered the Dell because I think I would of changed my mind about getting a 1520 after reading about the multiple problems. I am 28 married and in my 4th year of college with a major in Information Technology and will be using my laptop mostly for work and some digital photos and more than anything just surfing the net because I have my old XPS desktop I use for gaming for now but will probably change it over for a HP if everything goes well with my DV6000t. -
Oh yes.. and don't forget.. you will also lose the HDMI with Dell. Maybe you don't want that now.. but having that option makes the HP more future proof. On the other hand.. the 86xx video card makes the Dell more future proof. I think this pretty much sums up what you should be thinking about with the dv6500 versus 1520 pro con argument. -
Hey everyone... just letting you know i bought a dv6000t earlier this year and I love it. One complaint i have is the "cpu whine" which was extremely annoying until i disabled the c4 function in the cmos (i think it's c4?...)
Anyway, I'm not really liking the battery life resulting from that, but I suppose that's my fault for not getting the 12-cell battery. I think I'm going to upgrade to that pretty soon, since I'm going to be more mobile than i was before (college just started)
Quick question: for those of you who have the 12-cell battery, is the part that sticks out further than the bottom of the computer annoying at all? or is it easy to deal with? I'm not sure I want to get it because of that. any input would be very much appreciated. -
I have the 12 cell with my "Special Edition' dv6000 and it props the laptop actually at a better angle for typing when it is on a desk or table. In my lap I can't actually tell it is on there...
