    Hi Guys, I bought a dv6-6170se with i7-2670 2.2ghz, 4gb DDR3,2gb radeon 6770m.

I have installed the switchable graphics BIOS F.1A. Now then I notice the fan speed has increased and when i play games the GPU temp increases to 70+ and the fan speed increases. I can hear the sound produced by the fan. Is it normal ?? Should I contact HP Support ??

The fan speed increases to keep the GPU temperature down to a safe level. 70+C is very very good. No need to contact support...Seems to be working fine...

On a clean windows 7 install can i isntall ati/intel drivers separately (taken from official website)? I'm asking this because i've read that one should install first HP drivers and then the official amd one. Why?

So because of the Switchable graphics, if not done that way the switchable won't work or might only run on the intel.

SO Install the HP Drivers first complete and then install the AMD from DNA or W--- and do a custome install with only installing the AMD Driver. Don't install the CCC as the one you'll use will be the one from the HP Drivers.

Seems so ugly to me. There MUST be a way to clean install latest AMD/Intel graphics drivers without install stock one first. I will investigate further, maybe a quick look at the hp driver package will help.

    Thank you anyway.

As lmanlo has rightly pointed out, the reason is because of switchable graphics. HP is the one responsible to make two competitors' products play together, and the HP driver is the one to do this. You can't count on AMD posting a driver that will work with HP switchable AMD/Intel graphics. If the HP driver does not perform as advertized, then hold HP responsible -- you know, those guys rumored to be exiting the PC business. lol :D

For legal reason, AMD can't release a full switchable driver for AMD+Intel graphic. That why need to rely on OEMs for the switchable driver..
Actually u can install the CCC from any AMD drivers and Intel Switchable components will still remains as long as u install it over HP driver.

    Hi everyone

I dont know if this is the correct thread for my question, but i will try...

First, sorry for my bad english. Im from spain and need to improve it.

I have two notebooks in mind:

    - Asus. i5, gt540m 2gb ddr3 --> 549€

    - HP. i3, 6770 1gb ddr5 --> 599€

I wanted to buy the Asus but i didnt know the HP, so I would like to know which of both is better for gaming.

I know 6770 is better than gt540, and the differences between i3 and i5 are minimals, are not?

I will use the computer for working (office and internet) and gaming (bf3, mw3, crysis, assasins creed, fifa12, f1, gta4, etc.)

    Could I play this games?

I saw on youtube that the Asus can run it, but i cant find DV6 i3 6770 gaming videos.

And finally, has this notebook throttling problems?

    Thanks you !

the HP is better than the Asus for gaming but upgrade hte processor to i5 atleast.

and the 6770m destroys the gt540m

Thank you naturelover for your answer.

The problem is that the HP is I3 processor, not i5, and others notebooks that combine i5 and 6770 are very expensive.

    I can only buy one of the followings: asus i5 gt540m 2gb / hp i3 6770m 1gb

Well, will go tomorrow to the shop and will buy hp.

So I got one for you guys:

A week ago I sent my DV7t-6000 notebook back to HP repair because of an overheating issue. Before I sent it in I had no issues with switchable graphics (6770m and Intel HD).

Just got it back, swapped in the same HDD I had before and everything is working fine... except I lost the ability to manually switch graphics. All I can do is manually assign "High Performance" mode via the CCC per each application. Do not like! I checked the BIOS to see if they changed the motherboard. I guess if they swapped in 6100 parts I'd see the option to go from dynamic to fixed. Nope, option wasn't in there with latest BIOS.

I saw HP released a new driver pack that came out in the middle of September and tried that but no go. Also odd, in the CCC there is nothing in the "Information" tab anymore. Almost like I got a new revision of the 6770m or something and the drivers don't know what to make of it.

Anyone run into something like this before?

^ try set ccc.exe to use high performance.

looks like they gave u 6100 series mobo.. give them a call and tell it is the wrong motherboard.

That's pretty much the only difference between the 6000 and 6100 isn't it? I'd think I'd have the option in the BIOS if I did indeed have the 6100 mobo.

i recalled someone in this forum got 6100 mobo after he got his 6000 mobo change by HP. he have dynamic switchable but there is no option in BIOS to switch between fixed or dynamic even with F.1A.

The GPU makes more of a difference for games than the CPU does.

Hello, is it better to leave it dynamic or fixed in the bios? And is there a problem if i just use the 6770m all the time and ignore the intel card. Im using a stable 800/900 oc. If anyone could help i would appreciate it. Thanks

Fixed if you want to use OpenGL on the Radeon (e.g. Minecraft).

The main issue with leaving the 6770M on is battery life.

no functional problem whatsoever (I'm assuming you can live with the battery life). if you want to ignore the IGP you can set the bios to fixed and then use CCC to select the 6770.

You can still manually switch to iGPU thru CCC even when you set Fixed switching in the BIOS. I think you'll get better battery life this way.

Got my DV6T 6100 Quad today, want to do a fresh install. Started with the F.1A bios update but everytime I tried I got an error message once the Insyde window came up:
"This BIOS is not for your Notebook PC"
Though of course I have downloaded the correct file from HP.
    Current bios is F.02, btw.
    What is the problem?

Oh, had no idea now it is called the "cv6t 6b00" series, according to the product number. I got a very similar dv6t 6100 back in May which I sold because of the switchable issues back then but then I ordered a new one in October after that issue was resolved.
so I suppose this newer model does not have any isses with switchable graphics? how can I check that?

Cool.. right click on Desktop and select Configure Switchable Graphic. Then click High Performance.

Many ways to see 6770M at work.. u can use FurMark, GPU-Z, OpenHardwareMonitor, MSI Afterburner, MSI Kombuster.

I recommend to download OpenHardwareMonitor. You can monitor CPU,HDD and Battery with it too.

If got application using 3D acceleration.. u need to close it 1st before switch the GPU.

Thanks for the hints. Actually I have done all these (using CPU-Z and GPU-Z) before and the "High performance" option is enabled.
Everything is just as I unpacked the laptop, so did not change any drivers. they all seem fine in device manager.
BUT: only the Intel is shown in GPU-Z. In OpenhardwareMonitor though the 6770m is listed, and numbers change like temp.so i should not worry about the GPU-Z (lack of) "results"? dont have any games handy atm...

Hey guys I just joined the site, been coming here for a while reading up on this laptop before deciding on picking it up in June. Very happy with the decision I made. I have a question though, I installed accidentally everything for 11.9. If I uninstalled the CCC and installed the CCC from hp's site, will that fix the auto switchable graphics situation for when I unplug the battery?

You can check thru CCC, Device Manager, DXDiag, GPU-Z...
What is the problem with your switchable graphic? I installed everything too but my switchable graphic still usable.

On the latest Drivers, my option for 1280x720p is missing everywhere (Screen Resolution via Windows, Intel Graphics Options, Device resolution modes) for my Native Monitor and my TV (which supported it before).
If I install, revert to any driver it will show up, but after rebooting it will be gone. This issue happened with the GPU Driver update required when the BF3 Beta came out. If I connect to my projector, or surround system I can choose 720p always, but not with my native monitor and 19in TV, both of which have support for it but both don't have it as a native resolution, and my projector native is only 800x600 and that still can use 720p.

same here, dxdiag show 726mb and mine is 1GB hd6770m. just use gpu-z or gpu caps viewer or ccc to check.
