My advice to all of you. Never buy AMD/ATI GPU's again. I have had nothing but problems since I started using them. Even the top of the line Envy cannot do simple scaling options. Sorry, but just my opinion.

    Hello all.
I see exactly this data in my PC with GPU-Z... and I can not understand why the default memory clock is 216 Mhz and not 800  .
I used Furmark to do a test and the max GPU Memory clock in sensor (of GPU-Z) is 216 ...
How can I do to bring it to 800?
    Bye.

^ I got that since day 1. Gpu-Z can't detect memory clock properly. Use other application like GPU-Cap-Viewer or MSI Afterburner instead.

    hi all,

    ordered dv6tqe
    i7 2670, 750 gb 7.2k, 8 gb, 2 gb 6770, 1080p, 9 cell.

was browsing through the forums, the graphics issue seems complicated...do i have to do anything as soon as the lappy arrives (like installation and changing bios etc)... can't i jst start gaming and movies immediately?

sorry if the question seems very naive...bt a lot of technical stuff being discussed here.

DV6t-61XX series? You need to update the BIOS to at least F.1A. After that enter BIOS and change graphic switchable method to Fixed.

how do i know which series my laptop is?

and why is it necessary to upgrade bios on a 'new' and latest laptop?

i can take this offline outside this thread if these seem too trivial.

    thanks

    Guys I just got my laptop. It's the DV6T - 6b00.

I order the graphics radeon HD 6770M but my computer is showing that it's an Intel HD graphics family. Here's a screenshot.

Is the only advantage to manual switching for having control over things other than programs like outputting to display or rendering videos or am i missing something? I previously owned an Envy with switchable graphics and I couldn't play League of Legends on the integrated card, but if I forgot about switching I would have to close the program and relog in while the game was going on without me. With this dynamic switching I just punch whichever setting I want and it switches without me even noticing.

I just read the first page and there's a download for the dv6t. That will work for all of the DV6T models?

Also can anyone look at this. Is everything normal in here?

I have read that I should update my BIOS and video drivers to be able to switch from dynamic to fixed.

Is there any danger in updating these 2?

To run OpenGL application with HD6770M you need to use Fixed method in BIOS and manually switch it in window.

First, did you upgrade to the 1920x1080 display? If you ordered with the 1600x900 display, you're going to need to cancel anyway. The 1600x900 display:
    - Is a horrible quality display, one of the worst quality 17" displays I've ever seen. (I've seen other 17.3" 1600x900 displays that did look a bit better than the one used in the DV7.)
    - Makes things onscreen huge so multitasking is more difficult than it should be.
    - Is only for people with bad eyesight.
    - Is the worst type of screen available in a 17.3" laptop.
    - Is the same type of screen used in $399 laptops.

The screen makes more of a difference than any other spec and should be your first priority to upgrade. If you didn't get this upgrade, cancel your order and re-order with this upgrade.

Another note: Only get the 1GB Radeon 6770M. The 2GB makes no difference over the 1GB and is a waste to upgrade to. I don't think even for engineering programs that the extra memory would make a difference. In games it essentially never will.

I so want to get the dv6t (either SE or QE) but the lack of a 7200RPM hard drive is just maddening. Hopefully its rectified by the time I'm ready to purchase it. Thats the only reason I'm even considering the dv6z....

Don't worry about the graphics. Months ago...HP released a bios update that gave you the choice of FIXED or DYNAMIC graphics in your setup. Set to FIXED and the muxer in the chip will be enabled. Once in Windows...your graphics will now be just like the Envy and you can choose between video cards. High Power GPU vs Power Saving GPU. By default, when plugged in, you will have High Power GPU running. On battery...you will have power saving gpu. It's all good...

Got my dv6 already. The new bios is already installed when I got my laptop so I set it to Fixed because when I played League of Legends, it used the Intel card.

Is there an updated driver available? I tried installing the 11.11 from AMD website and it says it's not compatible with my card. Are the stock drivers enough?

Okay, I've tried as much as I possibly can, so I'll just ask on here. I just received my dv6tqe, and upon turning on the laptop for the first time, I noticed that CCC was nowhere to be found. I went to HP Support, downloaded my drivers for the 6770M card, installed it, and CCC still doesn't show up in the start menu. I've tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling the software several times with no result. The installation package recognizes that CCC has been installed, but I don't have an entry to start up the tray utility.

Is there something that I'm missing? I'm not really sure where to go from here, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Can u right click on desktop and choose Configure Switchable Graphics? Set it to High Performance.
Can u right click on desktop and open CCC from there? Did accidently update the graphic driver through windows update?

Hey, i'm trying to find the old HP drivers, the one before 8.882.2.3, and I seem to be unable to find it.

I need it so I can install 8.93 on top of the previous one, since the current one seems rather unstable sometimes.

Even the support and drivers page for the HP Pavilion DV6T-6100 CTO seems to be gone. Can anyone help me out and link me please?

    Hey everyone,

So, I just bought this dv6-61xx with this video configuration. The BIOS has already been updated to F1.B and I used the latest ATI driver from HP (xxx.3000). However, after setting the mode in the BIOS as "fixed," my system freezes not long after logging into a clean copy of Win7 ultimate. Has anyone experienced this freezing episode? I'm thinking about returning my laptop if this persists.

You still can look in System Information tho, goto Components>Display. Check the driver version for both Intel HD and AMD HD6770M.
Have u tried reinstall the driver or boot into VGA mode (640x480)?

    Hey xAcid9,

What drivers version and CCC version are you using?

I can see 8.93.10 drivers on your screenshot from CCC, is that the one you're using? Is it "OK" to use? As far as I know HP posted officially 8.882.2.3000 as latest driver.

I'm facing huge issues with mu HD 6770M. I can run games on low performance settings only (I'm playing Shogun2: Total War, which I should be able to play on High settings). That's been happening since I started upgrading my drivers and CCC.

I currently have 8.882.2.3000 drivers on 11.12 AMD CCC. Fixed mode in BIOS, version F.1B.

I just can't figure out what is wrong. GPU-Z. MSI are both showing that I have Radeon HD 6770M with 2GB GDDR5 memory.

HOWEVER when I run 3DMark 11 benchmark test, it tested my Intel HD card instead of aGPU! and I had my High Performance GPU switched on.

Something is wrong, but I have no idea what...

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

I installed Catalyst 12.1 preview over HP driver.
What is your 3DMark11 score? Intel HD can't run 3DMark11 because it requires DX11 GPU.

    Thanks for replying.

Exactly! Intel HD can't run 3D Mark 11 because of DirectX...BUT when the benchmark test finished and it took me to the futuremark website to see results, it gave me score of 276 and in the below text was Intel HD as tested card. I forgot to do a screenshot of that result, because I was in a hurry, but it is very strange.

I specifically checked before I run the 3D Mark 11 that I have the high performance GPU active and then run the test. However I could see from the begining that something is wrong.

Do you think I should try to uninstall / reinstall the drivers again? I've done that several times. Everytime I uninstall them, I run registry cleaner utility (Tune Up 2012), reboot and reinstall.

Even the Windows Index Score (not sure the name is correct)...I get 4.1 when on high perf GPU and 6.3 when on iGPU!

    276 was pretty eff'ed up...
Did you try to do power cycle? Unplug the power cord and remove the battery for a minute. Then replug and check if BIOS still on Fixed switching.

If u switch to Power-saving GPU and then switch back to High-Performance, will it still the same?

By the way, did you disabled PowerPlay?

    Hey xAcid9,

I did what you advised and nothing changed. I re-run the 3D Mark 11 test again and again score 253. It even says "Intel HD Graphics 3000 Mobile video card 3DMark 11 benchmark test score"! I don't understand that at all.

However I spotted one thing in the results. It says that my "GRAPHIC CARD" is Intel 3000 and then it says in next section "GRAPHIC CARD (Secondary)". There I can see AMD Radeon HD 6770M, but no vendor names next it for example.

Might that be a problem, that the iGPU is listed as primary? I tripple checked that I have my high perf. GPU in CCC, fixed mode, etc. For example in CCC (task bar menu, right click) I can see that high perf GPU is the active one, but it says "3. Radeon (TM) 6770M"...again is that "3." some kind of sequence number? When I have my iGPU active it says "1. Intell HD...".

I reinstalled the latest driver from HP's site. I turned off powerplay and I set the switching in bios to fixed. I can boot up and muck around in safe mode fine, so it isn't a problem with the OS. If I bootup win7 normally, the system freezes whenever I try to run something graphic intensive; hell, it froze even when I tried to run ccc. Switching back to dynamic, things are okay. However, I just experienced a BSOD (atikmpag.sys) when trying to run a game. Even BSOD'd when trying to recover it to factory defaults (same message re atikmpag.sys even after HP recovery reformatted and copied everything from the recovery partition). Okay, I'm returning this lemon.

I think you had PowerPlay disabled. Turn it back on.
Can u check Device Manager whether u had both AMD HD6770M and Intel HD in there?
That is the best way you could do i guess.

    Hey xAcid9,

So I did reinstall drivers. I know have same version as you have...installed HP drivers and on top of that 12.1 prev. drivers from AMD. I installed AMD Graphics Driver only...version 8.930.10.

I run the WEI assessment and got 6.9 on my Graphics!!!!! For the first time since I've had this notebook, I got this score! :)

I run then MSI Kombuster benchmark test for DirectX 11 and got score 1363 compared to previous 276!!!

Then I tried my favorite game Shogun 2:Total War which I was able to play on Low settings only before...now I can play it on Very High without any problems! :)

I noticed that in GPU-Z I had Core Clock at 100Mhz as Default before...now it is at 725 as Default...Memory Clock moved from 75Mhz to 216Mhz...I didn't do any overclocking or so....not sure how I can increase the Memory Clock thoguh...I'd like to have it at 800Mhz at least...any idea?

    Thanks for your advices...
