Bad news, HDMI output is not available right now and why does the bottom right part of the notebook stick out in HP's picture gallery?

 

Well, I CAN afford it, but it's good to have a bit of money left over, y'know. Not to mention tax on a laptop totally kills you.

I was hoping it'd be around the price of a good DV8000t (1300), but this one's breaking my budget at $1600. I mean, come on, HP! This thing costs an arm and a leg. I'm sitting here hyperventilating and saying OMG over and over again because I wish I could have it but can't because of mice/case/locks that add even more to the price.

 

Yeah KrispyKreme50, it seems they aren't ready for the HDMI port but it should be available in the near future. MGS2392, are you going for the nx9420 then or are you still deciding? My review has been delayed due to that I can't take pictures of it as it is being serviced. Don't worry about my problems because it is nothing faulty of the construction or anything.
I wonder if they are going to phase out the dv8000 line soon once people start buying their newer line of notebooks...

 

Sounds like HP put every effort pushing AMD X2 to desktop replacement.

 

I am now back where I started... No Idea of what to buy! The DV9000z looks very pretty and all, but I don't have deep pockets, although I'm quite confident HP will throw in another $150 discounts on this in a few more weeks (they always do that with new notebooks). The nx9420 is a steal at $1422 for the config in my sig, but I'm still not 100% sure (might want media features). Then of course, I could wait for the MSI MS-1042, build it myself, and save a load of money, and still have MXM. But I have to, well, wait, and it only has MXM II. Not to mention it's hard to find a Turion X2 anywhere, not to mention the TL-60 that I want.

 

HDMI is listed as a port on the spec page. What makes you think it's not available?

I will be purchasing this laptop today. Hopefully it will have arrived when I get back from vacation 2 weeks from today. Ill post my opinions at that time.

MGS2392, how soon do they ususally put up the extra $150 dollar discount? I might wait for it, if it doesn't take too long. I don't know if I should try the dv8000t out again, or go for the 9000z....

 

I'm not sure if it's 150, but there's usually, from what I have seen, one instant rebate (around $100) and one MIR ($50). This only has a $50 MIR. I'm not sure when they came in. All I know is that HP likes to start out their newer laptops with a small discount, then make them larger after they get a bit old. Notice now that they say the starting price for a DV2000 is 700 something, instead of 800 something when it first came out.

All I'm trying to say is that I noticed a trend where HP starts out with a $50 MIR when the lappy is new, and after a while, throws in a $100 Instant rebate. I'm not saying it'll happen for sure, but that's what happened with the DV2000.

 

i think im just gonna wait out for the dv9000t...i also dont like being one of the first people to buy a new model...would rather let other people discover any bugs and issues

 

Yeah, I would prefer to wait for the dv9000t, but I don't have enough time because I'm going to school in September. I'm scared to buy the new model first, but I already had problems with the dv8000t's keyboard, so I think I might give the dv9000z a chance... I wish I could read some reviews first though. I'll probably make my purchase by next Monday or so.

 

I'll bet they will introduce the $100 discount and $100 worth of free upgrades within a month, that what they just did for the dv6000.

 

ya thats true, i have the luxury of waiting till january when my classes start up again. hopefully the 9000t will have been out for at least a month by then.

but i can understand the need for a laptop soon.

 

Finally HP offers an AMD Laptop with a decent gpu. Yeah!

 

I can't wait for the dv9000t. I just don't know why people say the 7600 is a
"Decent" gpu. Anyone who says the 7600 is "decent" are only rich kids. I have a FX 5700 LE on my computer, and it lasted me about 3 years.

Sigh, looks like I'll have to wait until Best Buy gets a decent enough retail model in stock so I can abuse their financing again. I'm pretty sure it's what I want though. BB just got dv6000z's in stock (nice configurations too) so it's probably going to be at least a month. I want one noooooow...

 

What's the MSI MS-1042? Google can't find it

 

Prebuilt = MSI L735. Bascially, it's like the DV9000z, minus the pretty IMPRINT finish, but with the addition of MXM and a built in subwoofer.

I have said this before and I will say it again...Why no Compaq V9000(based on the Compaq design). Personally, I think the new Compaq versions look much better than the HP version and they also do a good job of resisting(or hiding) fingerprints whereas the lid on the HP is just fingerprint heaven.

 

Maybe it's because HP wants consumers to think HP is higher grade than Compaq (you gotta agree, a DV5000 looks much nicer than a V5000), and thus, since 17" laptops are considered a luxury, they won't let a "lower grade" name have one. Of course, HPs and Compaqs are exactly alike, except for minor differences.

I was the one who posted that at Notebookforums and I was right! The HDMI port is NOT a standard port, it's an upgrade ONLY. Do you really think they are going to include a 200 dollar upgrade as standard? LOL! If you look in the list of "what's included"...on the customization page with the notebook, HDMI is NOT listed. How much more battery life will the AMD Turion 64 X2 consume compared to the Core Duo in the dv8000t? Is it a huge difference, or nah?

 

Core Duo should get around 15-30 minutes more per 4 cell. So you're talking about roughly a 30-60 minute difference for the 8 cell that comes with the dv9000 series.

 

the entire thing is fingerprint heaven. my buddy just picked up a dv6000 and (i don't know if you've seen it or whatever) but the entire thing is glossy, all around. even the touchpad. I'm actually quite pleased with my dv8000t, and if i had the option to pick one over the other, i think i would take the 8000

Price is $1299 with Sempron and 512MB RAM. After getting decent Turion X2 and decent amount of memory we're talking about $1,500 range.

This thing is so overpriced cvompared with Dell E1705... I can configure UXGA display and 7900 GS Go for same money... beats down 512KB Turion X2 and 7600 Go. And even birds know that Core Duo >> Turion X2.

 

Man, I jumped on the deal and finally configured my own dv9000. Looked at the price and now I'm having second thoughts. dv9000 series or the nx9420 or the Toshiba P100-ST27111. Bleep, this is difficult. I'll just wait it out

I configured mine with the Turion X2 TL-60, the WSXGA+ screen, 2 gigs of ram, dual 80GB hard drives, integrated bluetooth, webcam, and that nifty mobile remote control. I also got the free printer (with mail in rebate : / )

With extended 3-year warranty (I'll be taking this on deployment and need accidental damage coverage) and the employee purchase program it came out to a little under $2300. Not a bad deal for a kick-ass machine that will be replaced, free of charge, within 4 days if it's damaged for any reason. Which it probably will be.

 

But now that Dell coupons suck, the E1705 is no longer as good of a deal as it used to be. Just wait for HP to put up a $100 instant rebate along with free upgrade to 1gb ram (which they always seem to do). Then it won't be so bad.

 

dv9000t and dv6000t are definitely coming out by the end of September. The two qualify for this $80 mail in rebate coupon.

with that being said. The dv9000t will probably be equipped with C2D right? I was pretty much set on getting the p105s9312 but im not a big gamer and so only thing that was different the fingerprint reader. Plus i really like the design of dv9000 over the p100/105 series. I guess I can wait till sep/oct.

 

Well it means that the remaining inventory of dv8000 will be discounted more. I would also imagine that the price will for the dv9000 will decrease once they get rid of the older models. I am sure this why they did not put out the Intel version because they know they have to price it even higher.

So I assumed it would be out by then. If it will definitely come out by the end of september, I'll probably get a cheap notebook until then... Any suggestions?

I just ordered a dv9000z. it should be here in about 10 days. One thing that happened to me I might pass on.

I ordered the 6000z then tried it out. I had a question and called customer support. I gave my email info and other stuff. then they sent me a request to review my experience of their support service. After I answered the survey they sent me a 10% discount e-coupon. So I decided to return my 6000z which I only had a week before the 9000z came out. Then I ordered the 9000z and applied the 10% discount. 10% of $1800 is money saved.

I didn't do this on purpose it just happened to work out this way. But I thought I would share it in case someone calls custormer service and gets to fill out the survey and gets the coupon.

 

from what i understand, the models being shipped out right now do not have HDMI...i believe they are still working on it.

 

I just got off the phone with HP Sales. The HDMI port is standard on all dv9000z notebooks, and is included on the laptop I ordered. It's not optional.

 

On the tax comment, when I ordered a CTO dv8000t thru www.Costco.com spec'd out at around $1,450... the tax was only $58 or so.

 

Well, tax for me is 6%, soon to be 7. That means that a $1500 laptop has $90-115 of tax. That's crazy. Plus, the config I want is even more than that.

 

You're lucky that you guys aren't in the Bay Area (SF, Berkeley, etc..CA of course) - tax here is 8.75%

 

Well if that's true, which I don't see why not, this is their new flagship laptop, that atleast makes up some of the price difference. I won't be using that feature anyway, but I could see how it would be nice. Given it is BRAND new, anyone who expected it to be released with discounts and cheap is really just fooling themselves imo... I expected it to cost a good 200+ more than a similarly equiped 8000 model, anyway, I ordered one too, I'm sure I will love it. I just needed a desktop replacement that has a built-in numpad, I won't be using it for any games really, and the 256 meg video card + 2 gigs of ram I got it with will make it last me though Vista if needed. I also got the 3 year service plan just in case, laptop's have a pretty scary failure rate!

I also read that the new design is more industrial too, not as cheap as the 8000 model which is very nice. That and I think it looks better than any other laptop I've seen, the imprint finish is very unique.

 

Has anyone got the dv9000z yet? I want to really read up on the Review with the AMD processors. I hear that Intel has better laptop dual processors than AMD.

 

so much for the 'processor wars' ... until Intel release its Merom chips, that's the only time we can compare them to Turion x2...

i trust AMD... i am more concern of the heating issues rather than speed... intel maybe faster but their chips tend to be hotter... performance wise, i go with AMD
