I did not have the original power supply as it's wire has been cut. I borrowed one from my office. I did not enquire settlement office about the power supply, just sent without power supply. When I called for status after a month or so, I have been informed that my laptop has been accepted and I am in queue for further processing.. I also remember there is no enough space in the box, even for my 14" laptop.

Maybe your antivirus program is scanning it. I cant really help much because I don't have a USB enclosure. My PC has a Sata port on the motherboard that I use. Someone else that has one should be able to help you. I would suggest formatting the hard drive though (after you get all your info off) because you're not really going to be able to use any of the drivers, main vista files or the backup partition.

Miloc, don't count on it, I have been waiting 12 weeks. I called and they told me it could take 14 weeks. They add 2 weeks on everytime I call. I am begining to wonder if they are going to send any replacements.
-
Yes i know. it's getting rediculous. i've been wanting a new laptop for the summer and i'm waiting on this so i can sell it for money towards a new one.

Your wish to have a new laptop for the summer will be fulfilled . . . . provided however you are referring to the summer of 2012.

So I guess we now all make it our goal to make sure everyone we know is aware of just how reprehensible HP and Nvidia are as purveyors of worthless consumer products, and find cold comfort when their ultimate demise comes to pass.
For my part, my grudge will be renewed every time I look at that travesty of a netbook they may or may not eventually send me.
Can we get in legal trouble for emailing [email protected] just to tell him our personal opinion of how despicable we find him to be and question how he can sleep at night given the off chance that karma may exist? I mean as long as we don't threaten him or anything, it's just voicing our opinion right? -
I keep going back and forth on whether to select the craptop or net$hit as a replacement and get so disgusted with both. If only Milberg had demanded NVIDIA spend $20 more on CQ-56 models with dual core cpu's then I could live with it. They probably could have shamed HP into throwing that in for free since NVIDIA took the blame when HP's poor design was the real problem.
-
I'll toss this out there for anyone who might be willing, and maybe feeling compassionate. I don't have the option for anything but the CQ56. If there is anyone with the choice between the netbook and the CQ56 who is leaning toward the CQ56, I'd be happy to swap with you, and pay shipping to get the CQ to you, and the netbook from you. If I get the CQ56, it's going straight to market, but I actually have a use for the netbook. So....
This is probably a longshot, but as they say, "nothing ventured, nothing gained."
Thanks for the consideration - -
Probably less trouble than I'll be in when he finds out who left that flaming bag of dog poo on his doorstep.
Seriously, unless you're planning to make some specific threat, I'd let him know what you think - expletives and all, and not worry about legal repercussions.
This brings up a similar question: Can a judge hold you in contempt for calling him a *%&#%$ idiot - if he really is one, and has recently proven it beyond ANY reasonable doubt ?? -
justice is not blind, if you got money you are except from law NO WAY we can get in trouble for calling pos lawyers we have the right to tell HP, NVIDIA and so called crappy money grabbing pos MILBERG AND his lawyers and judge how #$@%$# idiots they are F them
-
i looked in specs for asus ee t101mt-eu37-bk and couldnt find dvd-rw player do they have it? how about and mic and headphones jacks ?
PS i still think HP AND NVIDIA AND NILBERG ing idiots i hope they get what they deserve -
wonder if we can do something semi-organized, like they do when a network is cancelling a show. Like trying to get thousands of people to individually send the judge a bag of nuts with notes saying that he "must be nuts" if he can't see how we're all being so obviously screwed.
 -
I spent my $$ with H.P. directly, they are the one that 'hosed' me, that's the name on my tx1000 dog, they are the ones that will never, ever touch a penny of my $$$$$$$$
A big thanks to all involved trying to get us a fair settlement, you all know who you are, I'll stick with this 'site' and when I get my wife's Asus, we are hoping we will have it by Christmas of this year, I will update all.
Here's a good tip for all .. Don't drive faster then your guardian angel can fly! -
Is that what that is? I thought someone was chasing me!!!
-
It should have a mic and headphones, most sub 13in and smaller netbooks and and ultraportables dont have an optical drive to keep size and weight down. Which what sucks about sending in the TX1000 is the removable optical drive can be put into an external and used that way, but we have to send it all in minus the HD so I pretty much bet that optical drive in my sisters TX will go to waste under milbergs hands

Has anyone know the replacement CQ-56 we will receive with NEW WARRANTY?
I called 877-440-7557 before (may be a month ago), and they said they don't know.
I remember that in the Judge rule, there are "the CQ-56 meets or exceeds nearly all of the specifications of the original computers. In addition, it comes with an advanced operating system, new warranty and other programs."
Is that mean the replacement should have new warranty? -
The replacement should be a new computer with a new warranty. Let me know if it either of those isn't true, and we'll throw a fit that the parties lied to the court again.
-
Ted. Thank you for your efforts much appreciated. You are a good man. david vs goliath it seems.
jtfrommer mentioned something. Possible that there may be something to add? Hope all´s well. I still haven´t sent my computer in....
Cheers -
at this point, additional legal actions may or may not work out.
i can't tell you what to do but i think most people are sending their computers in.
personally, i am not going to mail my computer in for one of those craptops.
why? because it will be a good reminder that i need to start speaking out for politicians who support changes to our crummy justice system. -
I would also like tho thank all those who went the extra mile trying to usher in a just result. It is truly a sad day when injustice is served to US citizens as freely as the junk computers we had the misfortune of spending our money on.
I regret that I will not be sending in my computer as well. My DV9000 has been repaired several times but is still breathing. Another free ride for nVidia.
The replacement they are offering is not capable of "replacing" the DV9000.
Rest assured, when this machine finally bites the dust for good, my next computer purchase will not include HP or nVidia. These 2 corporate theives have been removed from my list of choices......forever.
Amen.

Has anyone seen a computer yet?? I sent mine in February and nary a word...
-
Hi! Anyone knows how to choose replacement computer? I would like to choose Asus but in my aprooval letter was not information about how to choose.
Another question - what with "Valid Photo Id" ? Photocopy of my passport will be enough ? What if now i have only Polish ID (US expired)? -
I think so.
Photo ID is required just for Fedex. I also carried my passport but the clerk at Fedex did even bother. -
Sorry..I have not read this thread but it does appear mostly related to HP laptops. Apologies if this entry is not applicable but I am claimant but with a Dell rather than an HP.
If you feel, cheated by the settlement then this may help cheer you up. My Dell Latitude D820 qualified and was accepted in the settlement.
I just got off the phone with Dell who agrees the GPU is bad but says I "must purchase a new motherboard because the nVidia GPU is integrated and they cannot replace just the GPU." My response was "that is your problem, not mine" but of course they refuse to repair it until I pay. What good did I benefit from participating in the settlement if I have to purchase the replacement part? I could have done that without the settlement and been done long ago.
So my question to the attorney's for this settlement and Judge Ware is why am I as the claimant being damaged and where is the settlement funds going? Dell is surely getting paid to repair the laptops from the settlement (common sense says that but I could be mistaken) and now they want to me to pay for the replaced part too. I am confident this is not what the Judge intended. Is anyone else in a similar situation? -
Just got back from Best Buy. Looked at the CQ56 they had on display. What a piece of junk. I have a dv9408, it has issues, but not giving it up for that, guess that’s what Milberg banked on. Very disgusted that Milberg got away with this.
-
At the very least, I will be waiting until very near the deadline to send my computer. In the mean time, I'm exploring the possibilities of further action. I don't recall exactly the reason a couple of state AG offices refused to take any action, but believe it might have been because it would have been interfering with an active class action suit. Since the suit is now settled, it might be worth having another go at them. Worth the cost of an email anyway.
Since small claims is such an easy venue, and I can't imagine either Milberg or Nvidia would send representation, with a carefully worded presentation, it might be possible to win an easy judgement, however toothless it might be when it comes to collecting.
I recall Ted Frank posting that he would be offering some points that might be used to persuade a real judge. Assume that this was going to be public, but if not, would one of his clients be willing to share?
My sincere thanks to all here who helped us fight the good fight, and hopes that most aren't just giving up at this point. -
I'd be intouch with the settlement administrator - straightaway !!

Does anyone know based on experience or otherwise how much I would get for my hp dv9420 if I sell it "as is/for parts" on ebay?
Are there people out there interested in parts from this comp? -
Just got off the phone with the settlement office. The replacement computers are taking ten weeks to get mailed out, and are coming directly from HP. Also, asked about the warranty on the replacement. She said no at first, put me on hold when I questioned her answer, was told to call back in ten days and listen to the recorded message for an update on whether or not we get a warranty with it. Unbelievable...Watch, they got away with everything so far, so why not sink the screw a little bit deeper.
-
Un Real ... if the option to the HP would have been MadeInTheArmpitOfChinaByBlindChinaBoysAndGirls
I would have choose it, never, ever anything with HP
on it in my house. -
Do a search on eBay for the DV9000, then click advanced search and select, I believe, "completed only". Look for the completed auctions with prices in Green. They are the successful auctions. That should give you an idea about how much you can get.
-
Like Ted said a few posts back, the replacement computers should come with a new warranty - both Jon Peddie's and Dr. Bagherzadeh's declaration mentioned that the CQ56 comes with a "standard" 1-year warranty. However, I wouldn't be too surprised if that turned out to not be the case, since 50% of what they said and 100% of the conclusions they came to were wrong.
-
Thx.
Some of these were sold for $600! Although it seems that people are selling these comps in used conditions without telling what's wrong with the GPU. Aren't these sellers gonna get into trouble for selling these as "works like it is supposed to"?
My laptop still works but the gpu temps stay high. I want to sell it for cash but I don't want to get in trouble. Idk what to do! -
Selling it "as is/for parts" will probably bring $25 to $35 as a complete non-functional unit.
Take it apart and sell components and you will likely do better. You could sell the screen for as much or more than the complete unit. A few bucks for the memory, a few bucks for the CPU, a few for the DVD drive, a few for the hard drive, keyboard, etc., etc. You may have to re-list the parts several times to get rid of them since the components are obsolete, but eventually you should be able to sell everything. The thing that would work against you potentially is that many of these defective computers are no longer in service, so the demand for the proprietary components is probably lower than normal compared to laptop parts for other systems of similar age. If it is not working, the motherboard is worthless and that's the part that would likely be in the highest demand. Sort of a no-win situation. -
We will receive a warranty, as Mr. Frank has said. The people in Massachusetts don't know what the people in California are doing . . or thinking . . . . . not without calling them and asking.
Am not certain, though, about the transferability of that warranty. For those wanting to sell the CQ56 outright, unopened, and quickly: Warranty transferability could be an issue.
Would you buy a brand new laptop from a private party, unopened, without a warranty? I would not. I'd sooner go to Best Buy, spend twenty or thirty bucks more, obtain a valid store receipt, and know for certain I had a good warranty. -
From terapeak (ebay research tool) The average selling price for parts repair dv9000's for the last 90 days is 100 to 200. If your system is working you can expect higher just be real honest in your description.
But I think you would fair a lot better taking the trade in of the cq56 as the average selling price for them new in box is over $300.
As far as warranty transfer goes if you sell it. This should be a non issue but just to be safe keep the packing slip from the box as that will have the original order # on it and that will be the most that would be needed. -
You appear to have better knowledge on this than myself. I might want to sell my CQ56 unopened, assuming it ever shows up. So I would appreciate the benefit of your experience:
Since the HP 1 year warranty would be in the name of the original recipient, in this instance myself, how do I go about transferring that same warranty to my purchaser? All the paperwork shows my name and address, for example.
I can see a way of doing this, but I don't like it:
If my purchaser returned the laptop to me in the event of trouble, then I would be in a position to seek help. HP would never have to know I sold the laptop, and HP would presumably repair the laptop, thinking it was being done for me. But trouble is, once I've sold the laptop I don't want any further involvement. Please say how do I go about transferring my warranty to a third party? And of course if I'm unable to sell the laptop instantly, how would the third party have benefit of a full year? If it takes me a month to sell the laptop, for example, it seems to me my buyer would have only an eleven month warranty?
I guess, bottom line, I just don't know how to do this . . . . at least not a way that leaves me free and clear from possible future involvement. I'll be grateful to learn how warranty transfer is accomplished. Thanks.
EDIT
Hmmmm
Seems this has come up prior in this forum:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-compaq/87730-hp-warranty-enquiry.html
Still can't say it's entirely clear. But perhaps a starting point. -
Is this the same Judge Ware?
Judgebusters -
On the back of your Replacement Authorization Form it says to log on to:
" www.nvidiasettlement.com/tx-selection.php " enter your claim #____________ and code # ____________ and decide if you want the Asus EEE or CQ56. If you don't have a TX1000 then I guess you don't have a choice.
Answer to 2nd Question is: You just need to prove that your the person that the form says you are when getting the Fed EX box. -
The HP warranty is transferable (Think gift) Your buyer would and should only need the serial # but the one caveat is that the warranty will start on the ship date(to you) They would only need to go to HP and register the laptop.
This is normally all you would ever need but in some cases where HP messes up they may ask for the order # and that will be on your packing slip.
-
Makes sense. Thanks!!
And the more I now think about it . . the more sense it makes. Sure, if I bought the laptop as a gift for another person HP would have to accommodate the need for a transfer of warranty. And they have no way to know if it's a gift for . . . or a sale to . . . that other person.
I guess though, based on what you said, that anyone wanting to sell their new CQ56 needs to act quickly. The warranty meter is running from day one, even though the box might not even be open!
'Tis good to have these ducks lined up in advance. -
Yup. That's our favorite guy right there.
(Nice find) -
There is no information about this on my Replacement Authorization Form. Thank You very much. Now I have to call for my code # .
-
yes, one of the same

As part of the settlement, Dell recently completed an expedient repair of the GPU in my Dell Latitude D630.
My experience in the past when another D630 was under extended warranty for the same issue was that they dispatched Unisys to come onsite the next business day and put in a brand new motherboard with brand new heatsink and thermal pads (for CPU, GPU and Chipset). I was really impressed and thought to myself, "Dell rocks!"
This time the "repaired" laptop they sent back to me had severe CPU overheating at 100°C causing persistent shutdowns. I mean how hard would have it been for them to monitor the temperature sensors for a few seconds to see the system was obviously overheating!?
I didn't want to go through the grief of sending it back and upon disassembling this D630 it quickly became evident that they didn't even put ANY thermal grease on the CPU nothing just heatsink to bare CPU die. Unbelievable!
They also put in an old beat up copper shim with no thermal paste for the GPU, literally about a .25mm paper thin piece of copper all bent and scratched up with an old thermal pad on top of that!
They reused the old heatsink and didn't even bother replacing the two old withered thermal pads for the GPU and Chipset.
They also left all the screws out of the keyboard and left screws missing off the bottom of the laptop and didn't secure the keyboard ribbon cable properly (by fastening it under the clip).
To say I was shocked at this extremely negligent quality of service by Dell is a gross understatement.
I don't even think it's worth calling them at this stage.
I guess this is Dell's way of telling US to go F**k ourselves.
The D630 I sent in was in like new condition other than the no video/intermittent video problem.
It looks like they just re-balled the GPU and quickly POSTed to see video and said, DONE!
So my advice to anyone else getting your D630 repaired is to download a portable copy of Everest and check out your system Sensors for overheating. There's also SIW, but I find the sensors are no where near as complete as with Everest, particularly for monitoring these Dells.
Has anybody else been shafted like this? -
Once you get your unit in you can check the exact date the warranty started here: HP Product Warranty Check - HP Customer Care (United States - English)
We were at one time HP resellers for colleges and universities. Every once in a while HP would run a special on their consumer end that the price would be lower than what I could order under my contract so we would buy them for resale and we never had a problem with the warranty. -
I was told "8-14 weeks from the date of receipt". And I found it interesting that I shipped mine on 3/14 and Fedex delivered on 3/16. But they don't have it "received" until over a week later. Everything to draw this thing out as long as possible I guess.
I sent mine in simply because my wife needs a replacement for the ailing netbook she has used for years, so the craptop will actually be a slight improvement for her. My 9000 had been dead for over a year and I replaced it with an ASUS gaming laptop at the time since I do a lot of video editing and needed the video horsepower. I will never own another piece of HP equipment.
They also treat their employees with the same attitude, btw. My father-in-law worked a while for HP as a consultant when his company was bought out by them and then was downsized about a year later. And it was basically a phone call saying "Sorry, we are getting rid of this division. Oh, you can't apply for work on another team that wants you because they fall under the head that your division rolls up to. If you want to look elsewhere in the company, that's fine." Another friend worked in their networking division and he tells similar stories about the H.R. department not caring at all. Must be the company mantra, try to make money and screw whoever you need to in the process... customers or employees.
