    hello there -
i'm wondering if this thread is still open? Whatever...
I do have XP running on a dv5 1164er (AMD Turion X2 RM-72, SATA HD) since july and it's basically working with driver solutions from all over the planet.
I'm wondering - does anyone experience successfull use of the Firewire/ eSAta and Expresscard i/o's? - means, do all the ports work on your XP systems, do i need certain drivers or something? ? I'm desperately seeking a solution for an audio recording setup, and before purchasing expensive gear pointlessly i'd like to know if this is gonna work at all... still i'm only using USB - i don't have the gear to check it all out yet.

does anyone know about this subject, or could give me an advice how to make it work?

    many thanks!

hi, i have vista on my dv5 and i slipstreamed sp2 (dialup so can't download sp3) and the sata drivers into my xp pro and installed it to a usb. i then booted from usb and installed xp, but my install didn't even get to the part where you type in your name and everything when it said:
windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem

I tried booting into vista using my recovery discs but there is not option to boot into vista, i tried booting into xp using xp pro disks but to no avail...

I was wondering if anyone could help me as fast as possible, i have to fix this today before i go back to uni as i need my lappy for uni

    thanks

For the record, my issue with WPA definitely was SP2 vs. SP3. If you don't have SP3 for XP, there is an update you can get from MS to make WPA work with SP2. I'm sure no one cares anymore with Windows 7 coming out, but I wanted to follow up.

    (xyzabcxx replied to:
    )

Hi xyzabcxx, thanks for your reply - that's great news! Can you tell me if if i'd plug in an external eSATA harddrive, do i still have to look for a particular driver or a setting, or will it be recognized instantly already?
After an Everest analysis nearly everything incl. the Firewire port was being recognized, but still no talk of "eSATA" nor "expresscard". I assume, the one "free PCI port" (acc. to Everest) might refer to the non-recognized expresscard port – am i right?

Does anyone know what is neccessary to get the original expresscard port being recognized? (guess i will need that very port if i want to use this notebook for stable audio recording per ext. firewire audio interface).
Sorry, i should admit i have no plan - a friend of mine did the nice downgrade work but he's more into desktop pc's and doesn't know about eSATA & expresscard and all the special works.
Thanks again for posting here and for your help and time!

You found this BIOS update to fix the brightnes:

ok guys, i found a new BIOS release on HP's website which states that this new BIOS fixes the brightness issue in XP. Try it out:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...roduct=3767378

Did it work ?? after BIOS update were you able boot normally into winxp ?? any issue ?? because at hp site it says that this BIOS update is for Vista.

Please tell me what to do ?? I can't afford a boot failure after BIOS update.. it drives crazy to re-install xp, takes 2-3 days to complete.

    Please update me.

I just picked up an HP DV6T and found this thread. I’m downgrading it back to Windows XP, following the steps laid out at the beginning. I keep running into one issue: The wireless adapter. My laptop shipped with a Broadcom BCN94312 inside. The trouble occurs when I install the driver. The computer freezes and has to be manually restarted. Other than that, the computer works flawlessly.

Any ideas on how to get the wireless to work?

Even though I am dual-booting for now, I succumbed to Win 7 siren... did a clean install (another forum topic on here) of Vista Home Premium, upgraded to windows 7, am playing with Windows Live Mail (another download - no more outlook express...), and also with thunderbird. Like them both it will be a hard decision. Win7 upgrade was free due to when I bought DV6T

But I am still booting to XP to get emails etc. too... although I am looking forward to Win7 and how it handles video, and my usb tuner, and recording off-air...

I still MUCH prefer Win XP explorer. And everything is a little harder to find since they shuffle it around, for us power users.

Pepy, don't know if that is a complete model number. Also, is it intel or amd processor. More info is always better.

    Hi All,

Thanks a million to all who have posted their experiences with the the DV5 conversion to XP.

I have a DV5-1125NR, originally with Vista installed, I now have successfully installed Win XP Pro 64 Bit.

The only thing that I cannot install is the video driver, I have a AMD Turion X2 64 with a ATI Radeon 3200. I have tried to install every drive mentioned but it just does not install, the Catalyst software installs fine but not the video driver???

    Any suggestions???

Please remember it's a 64 bit machine and I have a AMD processor not Intel.

    Thanks to all once again!!!
