I have no luck at all getting my remote to work on my dv5-1124ca in windows XP . Not a single button works. I tried the drivers on page 1 , has i did with many other drivers, and nothing. But i found those drivers here :
I can't post URLs because of my low post count , so decypher this :
wwwDOTversiontrackerDOTcom/dyn/moreinfo/win/163230
there is a winxp32 folder inside , and when i run dpinst , it installs and then detects more hardware , keyboards and other HID , which i then forced to what is installed on vista if i recover.
So i'm wondering if the people who have partial success , will have better success with the xp drivers instead of the vista drivers..
Check it out and let me know, Can`t get that darn remote to work in xp at all .. but my xbox 360 recognizes it no problem.

I recently installed XP x64 SP2 on my dv5t. Here are some notes for people that are using x64 since I didn't see alot of posts related to that.
First my hardware:
Intel 4500HDE
Broadcom B/G wireless
Broadcom Bluetooth by HP
Realtek RTL8102E/8203E
Realtek Card Reader
The Intel chipset and video drivers I downloaded from Intel's website and they're working fine. The HDMI audio required a separate driver which was in the \WDM\WinXP\ folder from the audio driver supplied by HP. I haven't tested out if HDMI audio works because I have never used it before in XP and I'm not sure how to enable it.
HP's Vista Broadcom wireless driver didn't work both when manually installing the .inf and running setup. Windows update installed a driver for me and it's working.
I used Realtek's XP driver for my NIC located on their software page. Works.
HP's Bluetooth installer wouldn't load, but DPInst.exe installs fine as mentioned in the guide.
The Realtek card reader was already installed when booting into Windows. However when discsonnecting an SD card, an exclamation point showed up next to USB Mass Storage Device under USB Controllers. I updated that device with the drivers found on Realtek's website and it's working well now. Shows up as Realtek Card Reader (0158).
One difference I noticed between XP and Vista that I am not liking: CPUID Hardware Monitor is showing 57C degree CPU temp while IDLE. In Vista it was much much lower, maybe low 40's if I remember correctly. Also, the left side of the laptop is much warmer than when in Vista, which was always cool to the touch when idle. If I can't figure this out I might go back to Vista with vLite. Seems like a lack of proper power management on XP's side, and without drivers by HP it seems like this issue won't be fixed. Anyone else having the same issue?
Haven't tested the remote driver yet. -
i confirm DigitalPersona Personal 4.0 does work under xp!!!

Red light Mute button fixed!
1. Make sure that Audio Service (stacsv.exe) works.
2. Find CLSID of your audio driver in your XP system:
- regedit
- F3
- Find "AllowHpOnNonSupportingPin"
- Remember founded registry path like as HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{xxx}\00yy\Settings]
3. Create reg file:
Code:Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{xxx}\00yy\Settings] "Installed"=hex:01 "CPL_SaveExtraPower"=hex:01 "CPL_SecondsAfter"=dword:00000010 "CPL_MaySwitchExtAmpPowerState"=hex:01 "AfgPowerStatePolicy"=hex:02 "CPL_ControlAfgPowerState"=hex:01 "CPL_SpdifTransmitterEnabledByUser"=hex:00 "CPL_FixedDigitalOutRate"=dword:00000000 "PmEnabledWidget"=hex:0a,0b,0c,0d,0e,0f "EnablePcBeepAtCd"=hex:01 "PlaybackCaptureAssociations"=hex:51 "KeepAnalogLoopbackAlwaysOn"=hex:01 "DelayInMsAfterPortDisabling"=dword:00000040 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{xxx}\00yy\Settings\GPIO] "03"=hex:c2 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IDT\Config\StacSV] "MuteGPIOIndicator"=dword:00000103
5. Save file
6. Add this file to registry.
7. Reboot
8. Enjoy
PS: Sorry for bad english
PPS: Tested on dv5-1070er -
Added as per your reg file and replaced {xxx}\00yy\ with those found in step 2. The entries did not solved the "mute" light problem.
My model dv5-1034tx -
Did you reboot?
-
Hi muchas, this method also did not work to solve my mute-light-problem. i have a dv5-1157ca
-
mujju, yes i rebooted after adding them to registry.
Like the rest, only a few keys on the remote control is working eg. mute, vol up, vol down, stop. -
Doesn't work for me either on my dv5 1124ca.
Maybe we need more keys? Has anyone else got this to work? Maybe we are not using the same audio drivers or quicklaunch buttons version? -
Sweet! XP Pro installed on my HP dv5t-CTO.
Everything works except for the orange "mute" button which I don't care about. As long as all things work!
No "yellow" questions marks on device manager...everything recognized! -
Hey, I'm having problems with the scroll thing on the touch pad. Any response on the correct driver or procedure to do would be great. Thanks!
-
Choose Windows XP...install.
Should fix the problem. If you have it installed already, make sure you uninstall your current one first, then install this latest update.

Thanks. I'm going to try restarting.
-
Yay! I'm so glad it works now, it was impossible to do anything without it. Thanks again.

IDT Audio Driver - SP41398
QLB and Quickplay NOT installed! -
Can you provide the URL for SP41398.
I've uninstalled QLB, and never installed Quickplay.
Under Device Manager for the Webcam. do you see HP Webcam or USB Webcam? -
Hello all,
GREAT thread. Got everything I need working on my dv5t. Only problems:
-orange mute light
-no stereo mix (are there certain drivers that have a stereo mix? right now I am running IDT driver version 5.10.5881.0, the best I found)
-volume slider touch keys are shaky. that is, the volume is jumpy and does not respond correctly to my touch at times (although I heard this might be an issue with ALL dv5s) -
Tried muchas method, but even though it was no longer orange...it would stay white even when muted.

fun2sh : you should check intel's site for the latest wireless drivers , they have windows xp version that should suit your hardware.
After looking around the web and trying almost every drivers i could find for my ENE CIR receiver, i have successfully got my remote working 100%.
The stupidest thing is this : Don't install any drivers!! I noticed that if install certain ENE drivers, i get some buttons working, but if i don't install any drivers , then all my buttons are recognized by software like windows media player.
Then i tried installing quickplay 2.3 , and all the functions worked as well, then i tried installing quickplay 3.0 replacing the 4 setup.* files with the setup files from quickplay 2.3 (as i found somewhere around the net) and quickplay 3.0 installed (even though it still says 2.3, it has more functionnality then quickplay 2.3)
For some reason windows media player classic is now loading extremely slow , so i switched to VLC , which has user configurable hotkeys , and i successfully mapped every button from the remote to hotkeys in VLC.
So, don't install drivers for your ENE CIR receiver , or you can force install by choosing "don't search , i will choose driver to install" and click show all devices. Then i chose "ehome infrared receiver" , which will fail to install , but since you don't have the correct drivers, the remote will still work because the drivers are making it not to work.
Or , if you had the ENE drivers installed, then select "update driver" and choose "don't search, i will choose driver to install" and then uncheck "show compatible hardware" and go to ENE manufacturer , select the "ENE CIR HID receiver" , which will fail to install as well , with same results, the remote still working.
Overall i've had drivers that installed correctly but gave me no remote key presses at all. Other drivers installed correctly and gave me partial results. And everytime i remove the drivers, the remote fully works (with some unassigned keys, but they would work in quickplay is installed)
With no drivers , my 360 remote also works every button except open/close, play , pause , and record. I do see some action everytime i press these keys if i use process monitor to monitor all the registry action. So i will try to hunt down these keys too see what i can do.
Also , one last note , these drivers act real-time on my pc, so the second you uninstall the drivers for your ENE CIR receiver , and do a scan hardware change in device manager (when he founds your hardware , don't install drivers .. or if you can't , force install either Microsoft's ehome infrared tranceiver or ENE CIR HID receiver) and right then , the mute , volume up and down should be working. Its easy to see in the tray icon.
You do not need quickplay , quicklaunch buttons or any other software installed for the remote to work. In my case ,I have to install quicklaunch buttons just so i can turn off wifi on the keyboard instead of inside network connections.
VLC -> tools -> preferences -> hotkeys : is a good way to test your remote
process monitor : is a good software to watch your registry keys realtime and get a glimpse of what keys are use for each key press.
dv5-1124ca xp pro sp2
there are drivers i posted on page 35 or 36 that include XP32 versions of the ENE cir drivers , and install a bunch of extra HID devices similar to my vista install on this laptop) but they dont do anything different in my case.
So i got everything working on this dv5-1124ca except the orange mute button , and i don't have a software for my hard drive protection since protectsmart is for vista only and hp mobile data protection doesn't support my hard drive.
I would love to know if removing the drivers works for others.
Good Luck -
@muchas :
Ive been trying to get the mute color to change , i just reformatted today to make sure that the no driver for the remote was not a fluke and that it worked on a fresh install, and i just noticed that stacsv.exe is not running. It was before i formatted. I have both IDT and HDMI audio installed. What software installs stacsv.exe ? -
i uninstalled the IDT audio from sp41398 and installed another version of the drivers and stacsv is now running.
-
Yet the registry fix still doesn't work.
Any suggestions? This is the last thing to set on my laptop and then everything is working 100%. -
Hi, how can i know if my notebook AHCI is enabled? The HP can detect the external harddisk when connected via USB, but unable to detect it when connected via E-SATA. This is with the pre-installed Windows Vista home premium.
Under device manager, the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers shown is "ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller". -
I was able to install almost everything now.
But in my device manager there is still question mark on "Audio device on high definition Audio bus" I dunno how to fix this .... does anyone has any idea?
Also what is the final solution for orange mute button?
Thanks -
Fun2sh,
For the sound driver, go into the "drivers" and then "audio" or "video" folder of SWSETUP. -
I have fixed the orange mute button as well!
-
I will explain what i did right now :
-
All right!
I made those last 2 posts so i could have 10 posts and insert links.
First of all , i have a amd based notebook , so i first found this article with drivers listed :
http://www.notebookdatabase.com/200...pavilion-dv5-1000-series-amd-based-notebooks/
So i was first installing this version of the IDT audio drivers (as suggested in article) :
http://rapidshare.com/files/143118068/1040et_ses.rar.html
It was installing , but getting an error along the way, but it worked. So stacsv.exe was running , but not reacting to registry changes.
I tried installing the IDT drivers from sp41398.exe , which just wouldn't start stacsv.exe at all.
So i decided to merge the 2 , i took the drivers included in the 1040et_ses.rar and i used the WDM folder from the sp41398 and it now installed without any errors. The stacsv.exe included in sp41398 is newer then the one in 1040et_ses.rar, which made sense for me to use since it was the one mucha referred to , and was newer then the one in 1040 that wasn't working.
It turns out that the stacsv from 1040 was at fault, because now when i add the keys posted by muchas the mute button works perfectly. Those keys (along with many more related to IDT audio ) can be found in your vista registry. With the MuteGPIOIndicator key being in a slightly difference place on vista.
So now my remote works , mute button works , and i'm on sp2 , no QLB because if installed i lose some functionnality on my remote. Last thing in this current setup is that my wifi button does not respond , i have to turn on or off from the network connections, but at least it displays the correct state. I don't want to install quicklaunch buttons and lose some keys on my remote. Hopefully we can figure out where in the registry we can activate that button, or is qlb our only option..
On a last note, now that my remote works, i am wondering if anyone has any idea where i could change the key assignement? For instance the "green button" sends alt+enter (according to VLC) and the DVD key sends ctrl+v. The stop button sends "media stop" key "media play pause" and so on for a few "media" keys. Any idea if we can change these keys in the registry? Has my remote has a few keys that are assigned to "unset" , they respond but are unset , and i would like to set those.
Good luck , and orange mute and remote is definitely possible on dv5-1000 series notebooks!
ps: make sure you enter the key in CurrentControlSet\Control and not ControlSet001 or 002
my controlset key on a dv5-1124ca is:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0015\
I have included my complete keys for my ControlSet and my software\IDT folder, if anyone was interested in seeing them.
Thank you very much muchas for showing us the way! Now time to figure out wifi button without QLB! -
Still no luck getting the "mute" light to work properly.
Register file as below:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

For italian people,
go to http://hpdv5.altervista.org/
find all xp drivers for hp dv5 1070el
nota: tutto funziona perfettamente!

xyzabcxx : it is very possible that your device doesn't have the same class number has mine. Is this post of the reg the file you created, and it just happens to be at the place in the registry? Did you search for "allowhp" and find the correct instance in CURRENTCONTROLSET ?
Maybe you can dump your entire hklm\system\currentcontrolset\control and post it as an attachement , so i can look at it for you.
my stacsv.exe file is dated 2008-9-11 and is 233kb.
seems i forgot to attach files last time:Attached Files:
-
-
Hmm... I just downloaded and installed sp41398. No problem with the installation except after restarting, stacsv.exe is not started.
Can you tell me what driver version is the "IDT High definition Audio CODEC"?
Mine is 5.10.6087.0 -
My IDT Audio Codec is also : 5.10.6087.0
I have uploaded the exact package i use to install the audio (a merge between 2 driver sets i found around the web) It uses 1040et_ses.rar for audio codec and sp41398 for stacsv.exe (WDM folder)
here is the package for idt audio drivers :
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?mht2nj32dgz
xyzabxx : what is your exact model number for dv5?
edit: nvm found your model in another post , cant seem to find product specifications for that model though .. try those drivers and the registry keys, works for me every time. -
Roamin, many thanks for your help, the mute light issue is solved. Your modified IDT package is exactly the same as mine, so not too sure why mine didn't work initially.
Not to forget muchas for the reg file -
To Muchas and Roamin,
Thank you!!! I now have a beautiful white light that I can change to orange with a simple press!
-Garbageman12345 -
Anyone got the ESATA to work? Does this HP notebook comes with AHCI activated as default as I can't seems to find BIOS settings to enable/disable it.
-
My guess is that all the latest hp notebook come with AHCI always on. You cannot turn it off in bios, hence why you need files like ahcix86 to actually install windows xp.
I do not have a eSata drive , so i cannot test it.
Grats on the mute light. -
On a side note , for the remote , i have noticed that if i try different drivers (or maybe it was quicklaunch buttons) there comes a point where even when i uninstall the drivers , my remote doesn't have full functionnality. Also my 360 remote loses recognition even with drivers uninstalled. So my perfect fix is install a fresh xp , and never update the CIR drivers. In that case all the buttons work (with some registering "unset" in VLC) . I am still hunting down what would be registry keys for the media keys.
So fresh xp install , never update the remote drivers. -
For the IDT drivers, i think both packs were the same , but i think sp41398's installer might have problems, because for me it just wont install stacsv.
-
Roamin,
After I tried the audio drivers from swsetup directory that came with the Lappy , I tried your this package as well. In both cases audio works but there is question mark on "Audio device on high definition Audio bus" and mute button is also orange after applying registry patch.
I also tries IDT driver pack from realtek site but still the same. -
And YEh stacsv is loaded after the rboot
-
fun, this "Audio device on high definition Audio bus" probably is the Nidia HDMI driver. You can find it in swsetup\drivers\video.
if you are using the one from Roamin, then the IDT driver should be fine. Most likely it is the registry file that is not correct. Read muchas thread carefully. -
and you have added both keys in the registry ? they keys in controlset and the keys in software\IDT ?
Try to dump both registry and post them here , i will check them.
Again, im in #notebookreview.com on EFNET if you have questions. -
Here is a quick and crappy video of the mute button in action on windows xp :
<object width='425' height='344'><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/zj4AieWzeFE&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/zj4AieWzeFE&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width='425' height='344'></embed></object>
And fun: Yes i'm pretty sure that the Audio device with the ! in your case is the HDMI audio driver (to carry audio on your hdmi port).
What you want to see installed is in "Sound, video and game controllers" of the device manager , and it is "IDT High Definition Audio CODEC"
Notice the ATI HDMI Audio , thats the second High definition audio hardware, and the CIR Receiver, which was never installed after a format, the only way so far to get a 100% working remote.Last edited by a moderator: May 7, 2015 -
I have been making good progress on the remote to work with drivers. First of all, here is the drivers is used :
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/win/163230
I posted those on earlier pages , but maybe they went by unnoticed. Anyways , there is a crucial difference to me when i install the XP32 drivers from the link i just posted , or if i install the windows vista drivers like many of us did. Just run the dpinst.exe from the winxp32 folder. The difference is that the windows xp drivers detect extra hardware , and installs many HID devices, which are needed to get the remote to actually do anything.
Here is the bad driver for vista :
And here is what the device manager looks like after the winxp drivers :
Notice that everything installs by itself except the HID Keyboard Device that you need to specify from the "Dont search i will choose driver to install" If you install it has a HID compliant device , your remote will lose up,down arrows and a few more keys.
So with the correct xp drivers installed, install eventghost http://www.eventghost.org and add the HID plugins as follows :
Also add the other HID devices.
Once all the plugins are inserted (they are not all needed , at least for my remote , the second HID compliant adds nothing) Just press buttons on your remote and you will see in the log on the side buttons which i named in red like this :
You can add a keyboard plugin and see when you press up, down arrows on your remote.
There is a file , c:\windows\inf\input.inf that has keys that can be remapped , which are related to the remote. I need more time looking around to figure out if these will affect the remote or not.
What i understand from eventghost is that it is like there is nothing treating the HID commands received by our remotes in windows. Does this mean we are missing a service or some sort of event handler that will monitor all the HID compliant devices and respond accordingly? Or are the drivers only seeing input when we enable them with eventghost? I really think they are always working and nothing is checking their state.
Anyways, our remote works , just that events aren't triggered in windows. I'd like to know why they were assigned to keys before we install drivers , and they no longer are when you install them.
I have noticed that the HID compliant devices are directly tied with specific keys on the remote like the green button , quick play, dvd and the display key. Play/Pause being alone in the last HID device. Inside input.inf you can see remotes installed. Much more info from the input.inf file from this site :
