755 beats 480 (yes, 480!) in every modern benchmark. End of discussion

Are there any other reseller that offers the one with the gt 755m sli, 7260 wifi card and m.2 connector??
-
Only directly from Lenovo, unfortunately.

That's a problem for me. Lenovo-US does not accept international credit cards even though it will be shipped to a
US address. They also don't accept paypal. I guess I might miss the promo. Thanks for your reply... -
Exactly my point, I have no clue what the hell is going on. This might sound stupid as f**k, but I'll do a complete reinstall of Windows, drivers, and the game itself, then see what's up.
-
Wait, were you talking about the desktop 460 or the mobile 460??
-
I don't doubt it. The 660M isn't that great at 1080p..
-
Neither is the 755. I would say this is a great card for 720p, and is decent at 900p (which is why Y410p>Y510p imho), however it is not good enough for 1080p, which is where SLI comes in.
-
Which would mean the 460M could best it if the native resolution on the 460M machine was lower, which is what I said. I am trying to figure out why you were disagreeing.
-
Nevemind OP just said 460M is at 1080p. 755 should win by a mile when resolution is the same.
Maybe 755M is throttling? -
Nevermind, forget it.
Anyways 755 is the clear choice. -
Hey guys!
I am thinking about buying an y510p with SLI 750M to replace my Asus G73JH with ATi 5870M.
However I heard that there is/were problems with this model. Can anybody give my a list for what should I look out when I purchase ?
Also I heard that there is micro stuttering when playing, this would be a problem for me, since I hate stuttering. Is this really noticeable and has it been fixed with the latest Nvidia drivers+vBIOS+Windows 8.1 ?
Thanks for the answers. -
There were wifi and track pad issues, both of which seem to have been fixed. No idea of the word on stuttering, though.
Btw, is it worth buying one now, when Maxwell is just around the corner?

Thanks for the reply!
I don't think a laptop around the same price with Maxwell will be out before April and I would not like to wait 4+ months
Only need to get some input on the stuttering now issue now ...
Btw after updating vBIOS+os to Win 8.1+with the latest NVidia driver in SLI the performance is better, worse or about the same in games and benchmarks ? -
Microstuttering starts becoming noticeable at around 30-40 FPS and below depending on your sensitivity to it. You won't see it when FPS is higher.
Coming from a fellow G73JH owner who upgraded to a Y500 early this year, I can tell you there is a massive increase in gaming performance, easily 2x or more. With my overclocked Mobility 5870, I used to average 45 FPS in BF3 at 900p Low. Now my overclocked 650M SLI gets me 70 FPS at 1080p High/Ultra.BlazeHN likes this. -
My first SLI version from back in July was very warm on the hands since the heat flows out both the left and right side. I had no issues with the wifi card but the touchpad was not very good at all. The screen was also a matte screen and I purchased it from Microcenter here in Michigan. I bought a second one in November, again from Microcenter and it ran just as warm but the trackpad seemed better and still no wifi issues. Also got another Matte screen. Seems all other retailers are shipping with glossy screens. There were some dark corners around the screen and some backlight bleeding but nothing that I would consider out of the norm. My Microcenter version did not have the 24GB SSD installed nor was there a connector on the board to install one.
-
Can you provide a list of how to test each feature thoroughly? And would you do so before or after this helpful post from Garbuckle?
-
I know rome total war 2 does not support SLI but I am still curious on how the laptop performs running it. Can anyone help me out on how it performs as is?
-
Good question, I am interested too. Also, does forcing SLI work with y510p too? Some people using desktop SLI reported ~10 FPS gain by forcing SLI.
-
Hi all,
Just bought a good and super thin keyboard cover and sharing the link here

hi guys,
want to ask something about y510p
Does the new model y510p with gt 755 and window 8.1 come with ngff slot connector? -
BTW I recived my laptop SLI 750M Y510p bought on Amazon, got matte screen and it looks pretty cool, I tought it would look kinda washed out because of the matte.
I updated Nvidia drivers via Geforce Experience to 331 and everything seems to be fine. Still on Windows 8, not 8.1.
I'm playing Farcry 3 with almost everything on ultra/high (like 2 things on medium) and AA off with around 50 fps. -
Upgrading to Windows 8.1 is fine, just install the Vbios patch after updating.
-
Do the y510p with 24gb SSD on the Lneovo website come with the M.2/ngff connector for an SSD?
-
Yes the 24gb drive is m.2
-
Thanks, also do you know what the difference is between the two, I know the Intel® Wireless-N 7260 (802.11bgn) is better but I just wanted an idea of how much of an improvement it is.
Intel Centrino Wireless N-2230
Intel® Wireless-N 7260 (802.11bgn) -
I dont find any option to upgrade to Windows 8.1. I read before that is on the store but nop, I Googled "Get Windows 8,1" and entered the top result (Microsoft Site) and I dont find any option to actually do the upgrade.
-
You need to open the Windows Store, the metro app version.
-
y510p running rome total war 2 w/ single GPU on this video. Still looks very solid IMO

Did you play for a longer period of time?
How high is the heat in your system?
Do you experience throttling?
thanks
-
The difference is the 7260 actually works. The 2230 regularly dropped all connections on my 510
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD -
I call bogus on this one, i have two laptops with 2230's and they don't drop... you using the right drivers?
-
Seriously?
Upgraded to the latest Intel drivers after having issues on both Dlink and Netgear routers. That improved the situation but regardless it would randomly stop responding while playing games or surfing the web so I just updated the bios with the modded version and installed a 6235 (also have a 7260) and it works without an issue.
Also, there are numerous complaints on this forum about the flaky behavior of the stock card.
Cheers, -
Can anyone comment on the build quality of the display, the model I am planning to get states that it is 15.6" FHD LED Glare Wedge 1920x1080, does that just mean it is glossy? And if so, is anyone having problems with it being reflective as opposed to a matte screen? Is the laptop with gloss screen usable outside? Can anyone post some pictures with the y510p under different lighting conditions? Also I have heard that sometimes the models are shipped with matte screens anyways or that they stopped making them in gloss?

The link was actually embedded in the word 'link' but here u go again
TPU Keyboard Skin Cover Protector For lenovo IdeaPad Y510p Laptop-in Keyboard Covers from Computer & Networking on Aliexpress.com -
Y510p's are matte. Y410p's are glossy. -
Hey, how is the keyboard skin, does it fit snugly to the keyboard? And how is the service of Aliexpress.com? How long did it take you to get it?
-
Very good quality. very snug. Service by this company is good. Prolly took 2 weeks
-
100% untrue. I just got my y510p yesterday (Full HD Glare Wedge) and it's glossy.
Only the y510p's during the first month or so of release had the matte display. -
I got my y510p a couple weeks ago, and it has a matte display.
-
Y510p's sold directly from Lenovo are glossy and sold from outside resellers are matte.
-
Interesting.
Can anyone who has bought a y510p from Amazon or Newegg confirm this?
Also, what is the quality of the 1080p Matte screen? -
Pretty nice. See display review here: Review Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p Notebook - NotebookCheck.net Reviews
-
Any news about GT755M bay yet ?
-
Not true either, got my 510 directly from Lenovo and it's got a matte screen.
-
Can anyone comment on the temperatures of the y510p model in games where the gpu is being utilized at 100%? What about the cpu temps? Have you guys tried furmark and prime 95 to check your temps? Also what do you guys think about the fan noise?
-
double post
-
Got my y510p from Amazon last week, Matte screen here, looks pretty cool btw.
-
Yeah, heard it's one of the better TN panels on the market. 700:1 contrast and FHD resolution, decent horizontal viewing angles (though poor verticals due to TN).
