I'm talking about right now. I recall that the first Y510p's sold from Lenovo had matte screens before they switched to glossy.
-
Is it possible to install the 331 nvidia driver from their website? Because My Nvidia Settings is telling me that currently no GPU is available and sources from the web told me that this indicates that the driver is not working properly.
I had no probs with the 327 driver from lenovo. -
You on 8.1?
-
Does anybody has the modified bios to install other wireless LAN for the y510p?
-
I am currently on 8 thinking about upgrading just dont know what the real advantages are.
-
Have you tried Geforce Experience? I upgraded to 331 via that software and everything is working good.
-
Native boot to desktop, improved search, more customizeable metro settings, disable charms, few minor stability tweaks.
Oh, and W8 support ends in 2016. W8.1 has got you covered till 2023. -
Got 2 y510s coming from Lenovo in the next few days (one going back). Interested to see what each comes with. I assume matte is better?
Edit: Just saw that UPS attempted delivery of the first today but I wasnt home. It's the one that's going back so i really don't care. :S -
Glossy: Better colors, but creates glare
Matte: Colors a little more dull, but no glare -
I currently ordered the following configuration from Lenovo:
IdeaPad Y510p Laptop - Dual Graphics - 59405667 - Dusk Black
4th Generation Intel Core i7-4700MQ Processor (2.40GHz 1600MHz 6MB)
Windows 8.1 64
NVIDIA GeForce GT755M (SLI) GDDR5 2GB
Ultrabay SLI Graphics - NVIDIA GeForce GT755M (SLI) GDDR5 2GB
16.0GB PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM 1600 MHz
15.6" FHD LED Glare Wedge 1920x1080
1TB 5400 RPM + 24GB SSD
6 Cell 72 Watt Hour Lithium-Ion
Intel 7260 b/g/n Wireless (2x2 BGN)
Bluetooth Version 4.0
What is my TO DO list for setting up my laptop. I've read through most of the forum, but things have been updated since then and stuff is so scattered around. I've heard of trackpad issuies, Wifi card not working properly, the SLI video cards not being recognized, and the internal graphics drivers were not installed. Basically tell me what you did to setup your laptops.
Also, what is on the 24GB SSD? Is the OS on the 24GB SSD or the 1TB? Is the 24GB upgradable?
If you guys could give me a list of things that you recommend I should do, I would appreciated it. -
It actually tells me that there is no new version available, thats why I am asking.
Another question is the Heat topic, i already ordered new paste in order to renew it on the gpu. But i saw that the CPU temp was incredibly high and so I wanted to undervolt.
Did you guys use Rightmark to undervolt? because it seems that its not working for me.
The guide is also from 2008
thanks in advance
-
The 24GB is just a cache drive. It can be removed and replaced with 128GB SSD and the 1TB drive cloned to it so you can use the new larger 128GB SSD as the boot drive.
Cheers, -
Anybody knows how to overpassed the throttle speed on the laptop? Seems to not support turbo boost. I heard a program throttle stop. But I don't know how to use it.
-
Ask your question here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...arket-upgrades/531329-throttlestop-guide.html
-
Is it normal for the y510p (755 sli 8gig ram) to run temperatures in idle really high with the cpu around 65° (normal room condition)?
even though I undervolted by 70mv i find this extremly terrifying.
played Borderlands 2 for 5 minutes and instantly startet to throttle from ~80fps to ~20 fps.
Did I bought a "bad" in y510p in terms of poor manufacturing?
Sorry for the question load, but Iam concerned :/ -
I tought the same too, since my Y500 was Glossy, when I got the Y510p Matte one I tought color and brightness would not be as cool as the Glossy, but it was just the same awesome screen but no glare and plus no greasy fingerprints neither
So at this point I would say Matte is better anytime.
Well what I can tell you is Y510p no longer have the touchpad problems Y500 had (it was horrible to deal with the crazy pointer moving by itself) now works correctly and its phisically different too, the clicks feels way better than before, but overall its a "not so good" touchpad but works ok. My Wifi card worked perfectly on both Y500 and my new Y510p, never had a problem, but some people here report they have/had problems, looks like your model have the newer Wifi card wich is supposed to work better than the N2230. About SLI check on the Nvidia Control Panel, mine had SLI disabled by default even when Geforce Experience listed it as enabled (I even played some days like that until I noticed no heat comming from my Ultra Bay GPU and feelt a big improve when I enabled it). You can update your drivers to 331 via Geforce Experience. The OS is not on the 24 GB SSD, it wont fit there (needs at least 32 GB for that), instead its used as a cache drive to make your frecuently used programs load faster, as panzer said you can replace it with a 128 GB boot SSD and place some games there too while keeping your 1TB Hard Drive. When you get your laptop upgrade all the drivers, then if you wish to you can upgrade to Windows 8.1 (I haven't yet, dont feel sure/need more info) but if you do you must upgrade your Vbios to make SLI works propperly on 8.1(links on this topic, some pages behind).
Good Luck

Can someone link the vbios update? Or point to what page it's on? I have the y510p sli with 1tb and 24gb ssd, 16gb ram version.

hey thanks both of you up there. i have new set of dumb questions. so i updated to 8.1 not clean installed. i manually deleted my old drivers to put the new ones in after. now my issue is i cant get the express cache thing anymore? my computers is extremely slow compared to 8. what issues am i having? whats making it so slow?
-
Also noticed a lot of mention of wifi inconsistency. Once on 8.1 whats the generally best to use drivers? I'm currently on 15.10. I think, is 14.8 better still?
-
I have a y510p with single gt 750m. All the gt are configurable for sli? where can i find another 750m for the ultrabay?
-
Y 15'' Removable Graphics GT750M5 | Lenovo | (US)
that's what you want. You also can't buy a Ultrabay GT750M off Ebay or something because SLI y510p model ultrabays aren't compatible with nonSLI, you need a special stand alone card bought from Lenovo themselves.
And WHERE the f*ck is GT755M ultrabay already... -
In Malaysia

@spinaltarp: mine is from Tiger Direct and it's matte

#arog: cpu temps at 70+ with max settings on FFXIV. Fan noise is tad bit high but still ok as in it's within my expectation.

Anyone know generally how long it takes for Lenovo to ship from the US to Canada?
-
This is why I ended up buying the Dual Graphics version instead. I originally ordered the one with the DVD in the Ultrabay, but once I contacted Lenovo the seamed to not know when and if they were going to have the GT755M Ultrabay card available.
I was told you also needed a different AC adapter too. -
Question regarding people's thoughts on the Y510P. I've searched the forums and the web, but couldn't find any thoughts on the matter.
So the Y510P from Newegg is ~$850, dual 750m's with an i5 and 6gb of ram.
Or there's the Y510P from Lenovo directly for ~$1200, dual 755m's with an i7 and 16gb of ram.
I'm a bit of a power user, develop on my laptops and game quite a bit, but in your minds, are the extra cores, ram, and slightly faster gpus going to improve the experience enough to warrant an almost 50% price increase? Thanks for any thoughts and experiences.
EDIT: I also wanted to clarify that I'd like to use the laptop for as long as possible. My current laptop is a Dell Latitude D630 from ~2006 that I upgraded the processor, ram, and added an ssd to about 2 years ago to keep it going. I like to buy for the long haul when I can, while keeping things affordable. -
755's are just factory overclocks. You aren't missing out on much. However the 1199$ is reasonably priced due to it's extra 10 gb of RAM, better WiFi card and 24GB Solid state, not to mention the i7 processor.
-
Thank you
-
I think you kind of answered your own question by stating you are looking for a laptop for the long haul. If this is your goal then I wouldn't even consider getting the i5 version. The 755 over the 750 is probably not going to get you much and the RAM can always be upgraded in the future, however the chip is stuck with the laptop. Also by your pricing it's more like a 30% increase not 50%. Considering you are upgrading the processor, RAM, and video cards, and I believe Wifi card, I think it is reasonable. Also I hear that all non Lenovo retailers are not including the m.2 Sata drive or connector to use it. The 8 GB cache is on the 1TB drive instead.
I actually bought the $1200 model you were talking about except I got it for $1129 through a corporate discount. -
Guys, for the record, Maxwell is coming out in march. Just wanna let you know. Broadwell will also be released late 2014.
I'm predicting that a possible refresh with Maxwell will come out with march, with the 850M or 855M, both of which rumored to offer 765M level performance. For an earlybird performance comparison:

Can you give us a link, where you heard that rumor about 850M, and its performance?
-
Laptop 1: Lenovo said it would ship in minimum 4 weeks. I ordered on Nov 22. Shipped from China Dec. 5th and received on Dec 11th (I'm in Vaughan).
Laptop 2: Lenovo said it would ship in 7 days. Ordered on Nov 28th. Shipped from the US on Dec 5th. (Arrived in Canada on the 6th) Stuck in Concord ON until this morning and should be delivered today (Dec. 12th). -
http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...s-800m-series-coming-out-february-2014-a.html
And for it's performance, i said predict, i have no stats to back up this claim.
Also, the 840M is a rebranded 750M, kepler. -
Thanks, somehow missed that!
Holy +%/! 8G of vram.... overkill imho.
Actually I'm just picking with you, but no offense mate, even if english is not my native language, what you wrote can be read like this: you predict a new modell, with 85xM which has a rumored 765m speed.
However, I dont think nv will start the new architecture in the lower segment, even a 3SMX core gk106 is plausible as 850m, more likely as 840m could be a rebranded 750m.
765M has 65W of TDP, 4SMX stuffed into ultrabay, scary, but with redesigned cooling maybe can be done. Check the linked machine, it can fit almost two y510p.
There is a bit of performance left in 750M, question is, can they ( lenovo) dig it out?

Maybe it can go higher, but 170W psu squeked crazy, did not wanted to tempt anything.
-
Yeah.... I guess I just figured maybe you guys could convince me to spend less money
.
And as far as the 800 series hitting in february... I could very comfortably wait several months for a bump up to a newer mobile chip
.
-
I'd be really pissed to find out that the Lenovo Y520 would have 840M SLI. Then it would hold zero performance advantage over the stupid Clevo barebones with 86xM Maxwell
-
Does anyone's laptop squeal (very high frequency buzz) if display brightness is not 100%? Horribly annoying. I wonder if that's a faulty unit.
-
it took mine 3-5 days
-
i think my questioned got buried, what the correct version the WiFi drivers have to be on for 8.1? i am currently on 15.10 on 8 it was generically considered 14.8.
-
I ordered 59405661 model on late evening of Dec 3 (but considered Dec 4 on China's timezone) with estimated delivery of Dec 12
Went to release to manufacturing for 2 days and showed as shipped on Dec 7
On UPS tracking it is currently sitting in Concord ON with expected delivery of Dec 17
But I live in BC, so may account for the longer delivery plus mine I discovered was UPS Ground Shipping
So will take two weeks for my order -
Should I just wait for the 800 series then and send my y510p back (once i get it) ? :/
-
Just one question, are the models with 8 gigs of RAM 2x4GB modules or 1x8GB module ? Cba opening and checking up for myself, figured someone might already know.
-
so, what did you find out?
-
You can use CPU-Z to find out.
-
Any of you with 755M , is there someone, who disassembled a machine with 755? I'm curious about vga memory type.
750M has k4g20325fd fc04 memory, binned at 1250Mhz, the fc03 one is binned @1500Mhz, according to datasheet.
http://www.samsung.com/us/business/oem-solutions/pdfs/PSG_1H_2012.pdf
Wonder if Lenovo overclocked memory, or different manufacturer, or 755 owners are lucky, since they can push memory to its rated, 1500Mhz.
-
Hey!
I bought the y510p with 4 GB RAM and 755M SLI.
I installed Windows 8.1 Pro and run 3DMark Vantage. First I got 20.400 points but later when I run it I've only got 19700 points. Also when I tried to run the latest 3DMark the laptop rebooted during the test. I do not believe it to be overheating.
I have the latest NVidia driver and got SLI enabled and Physx on auto.
Is it just a software issue or should I return it for an exchange ?
