Yes, but I like the no frills look and functionality of Nvidia Inspector. Is there any advantage to using Afterburner?

Best benchmark for the 750m sli , tried with higher memory (+500) but gets lines during the bench marke...
    135mhz 400 memory.jpg
Also last night the ultrabay GPU got super hot 98c the main gpu and cpu never hit 90c, even had a cooling pad (cool master with 140mm fan) was playing THE RECKONING with the 135+ on core and 400+ memory for around 2 hours..
I took apart the ultrabay gpu and used better thermal paste still got the same temps..

could be the fan in the 2nd gpu. slow maybe? find out by using the lenovo dust cleaner app, i don't remember what it's called :D it pushes both fans to the highest. the 2nd gpu usually never gets hotter than the 1st one. if it does, only a little, like 1 or 2 degrees in my experience. how hot was the area around the keyboard?

Due to Lenovo screwing up, they sent the wrong laptop, I had to return it, they sent the correct one (same as yours) and they gave it to me for $999 with taxes, lol. The extra 2 week wait was worth $200, imo.

So people with 750m sli, how are your temps? Some say high, some say no problems. Is 90 safe you think? Seems high for a laptop gpu

90 isn't out of question for laptop GPUs. We've seen max temps around 90C on laptop GPUs for quite some time.

I wouldn't worry about temps, if you're worried about "damaging" the GPU. Modern CPU / GPUs have self-monitoring thermal limiting these days, and will start shutting themselves down if they reach a certain temperature limit (and 90C is well below that). You would really need to go out of your way to override these thermal self-monitoring mechanisms to damage your CPU / GPU from heat.

I don't know about other SLI owners but my laptop has never been hot to the touch yet. As advised for every laptop, have it elevated so cold air can pour in from the bottom. Also, do not block the ventilation units.

Same here. Not even close to any heat problems or unreasonably high fan noise, even under full load. This is one of the coolest running laptops I have owned.

As FSU Logan mentioned, just don't block ventilation ports on the bottom. Using the laptop on a desk is fine. Putting it on a pillow or fluffy comforter in bed is bad.

ambient temperature also plays a very big role on your laptop temps. if you're on ac, then you'll see lower temps compared to others. like me, i don't have ac and i'm in a tropical county and it's summer here, so i get around 5 degrees hotter cpu and gpu temps.

How does the metal feel on the left and right sides of the keyboard, right above the vents? On the single gpu version, it seems to be the only spot that gets hot when a demanding game is running. I'm curious if it's better with SLI or not

Well i have a nice wireless mouse, but after my past experience of frying a laptop by using it exclusively on my lap and my bed, id like some kind of buffer. Just hoping that suffices and wouldnt make it worse, since I already own it!

Should be more than fine for that especially since its flat. I've been just using my lap and have been getting great temps. Even when I have a light blanket(flat not fluffy) between, I get elevated temps but nothing out of control.

Sounds good thanks. I am usually stuck in bed or on the couch for long durations of time because of my health issues, so the dust and material from blankets usually build up quick. Figured id help alleviate that with something like this. Normally I would get a usb powered cooling fan, but I have enough wires on or around me to drive me insane, no need for more!

Ps: ordered sli model yesterday says its scheduled to ship today and be here by Friday!! Pumped that I can finally game again. I have a sweet desktop I built not to long ago, but in my current condition its waaaaaay to much of a pain to use and sit there for a while.

Guy on reddit says his model number is: ADP 120LH B

Gonna try calling lenovo to get an extra discount on the SLI 750m. Tax is killing me right now.

What did you tell the person on the phone? I tried getting a discounted price on the online chat, telling the agent that I am a student and a returning lenovo customer. However, they wouldn't discount the price below the Barnes and Noble offer of $1086.

What state do you live in and how much did you have to pay for tax?

    Thanks.

Screw it, just bought the Y500 Dual Graphics using Barnes and Noble discount. Came out to $1173 including tax.

A little more than I was hoping to pay... a few weeks ago I was planning on getting the SLI 650m from a site like bhphotovideo, where I would pay $1000 for the computer, and wouldn't be charged tax. Hopefully the 750m and extra 8gb of ram are worth it.

I'm planning on getting a 64GB mSATA SSD to install the OS and 1-2 games on, and replacing the 5400rpm HDD with a 7200rpm one I've got laying around. Does this sound like a good plan?

Just to touch back on the cooling issue and the lapdesk i posted earlier, does the y500 have any raisers on the bottom, and do you think thats high enough for 2+ hour gaming sessions?

Very informative thread. it took me a while to go through it. :)

I've been attracted by the specs and the great discount. i've been concerned with the glossy screen but based on this thread it does not seem to be that bad. Now that more of you got the laptop, do you have any more feedback on the glossy screen??

Also given some issues encountered when the laptop was shipped, do you recommend adding extra warranty... i never purchase additional warranty, but their prices for the warranty are reasonable.

I'm hoping to make a decision today and place the order.... i'm looking at the model with single graphics card and 16gb SSD as i'm not big gamer, but I'm looking for good multimedia machine and for photo and video editing. I can't seem to find anything else that is comparable in specs as Y500 for same price ($869).

in my experience a 7200rpm hdd produces more heat. be prepared for warm palm rest (below numpad area). it could also depend on the kind of hdd your using. but it's faster though, sounds like a good trade-off. :D

i think this is pretty useless since most of the hot air your trying to get rid off is in the left side of the laptop.

Mine shipped today (was supposed to last friday) they are sending it 2nd day air (not bad for free shipping). Little suprised though that its shipping from North Carolina. Seems like everyone getting the 750m sli model was coming straight from China. Hopefully they didnt screw up!!

I made the final call today... and went with my original plan and ordered the Y500. i've been doing my homework for last 2 weeks. I went with single 750 and 16gb ssd. I was not able to find anything comparable in specs for the same price. With EPP i paid 869 plus tax.... which to me looks like good deal.

My biggest concern was the glossy screen... but seems that not too many people complain about it... and what the heck.. they have 30 day hassle free return. Way to go Lenovo!

    Now waiting starts. :-(

Hi, I just purchased a Y500 too, but that is the base model with single 750m graphics card. I don't think I'll get the second sli card because I'm not a hardcore gamer. But I do play games casually. My question is will single 750m graphics card play SC2 on high settings? Can I play planetside2 on that machine? Can I play Team fortress 2 on high settings? Should I get a SSD and install it in the ultrabay to replace the DVD? For those of you who has used this laptop for a long time, how do you solve that short battery life problem? Is buying a replacement battery a good solution?
    Thanks everyone!

Also, for the model that doesn't come with the 16ssd will it have the option to add one later?
