Is it worth to upgrade to Lenovo Y500 dual GT750M SLI from Dell Inspiron 15R SE 7520 full hd?

In short, yes, the single card will play the games you want.
As for the ssd, you can either buy the ultrabay adapter and ssd or just buy an msata ssd to replace the 16gb cache drive. I went the msata ssd route to free up the ultrabay. You can also replace the spinning disk drive with a ssd. If you go the msata route, you might as well get the model without a cache drive. The bay is still available to add one, if you decide not to get one at first.
I would never get a second battery for this laptop. 3 hours is usually enough for me and you can stretch it to 4 if you lower the brightness and settings. You really can't play games on the battery because the graphics get throttled so badly, but that's the case with all laptops. For long term couch internet sessions, I just use a $200 Chromebook. -
the monitor in this will overclock to 95hz apparently

Will they know if I add the msata then remove it before I send it to repair? Thank you! -
And how would we know? If you it looks like it hasn't been altered, then they probably wouldn't know. -
( if you can run games near that fps) its nice to know its easy to achieve and perhaps you would want to stick with a lower value such as 75 - 85hz which is a nice little boost . Of course there may be a chance the panel life will be less but many people run monitors faster than stock recently as there is now the tools to do this on AMD and Nvidia.
Its easy with the Nvidia solution: Custom Resolution Utility (CRU)
it would seem desktop monitors might overclock less so a 60hz usually can achieve 75hz and smaller res monitors seem to be able to go a bit higher near 80hz, but for some reason laptop screens seem to clock higher into the 90's -

I was think of returning the dell as it is still under the warranty policy
So I wondering is the Lenovo Y500 is a better pick than the dell Inspiron 15R SE 7520/Turbo

Just got mine a few hours ago (sli model). Been playing around with it for a little while. I love the keyboard and the screen. Hate the mouse. Weight is fine.
Im downloading Tomb Raider and Bioshock infinite. Wont be able to play them until sometime tomorrow evening though.
If they dont handle them two games good, and fail to handle BF3 (wont download that till the weekend) good, then I will prolly return it. We will see though. -

Can somebody with mSATA post Windows boot time, so we can see difference between mSATA 16gb + 750Gb drive and various SSD solutions? Is it worth upgrading?
Another thing - will mSATA SSD from various makers fit inside nicely - are all mSATA aprox.same size, is there enough space? -
I know this was general knowledge but I hope it helps.
Oh, by the way, the mSATA's are given a size (just like the traditional SSDs are 2.5") so I'd assume yes, they should all fit. -

First up, great thread guys. Very informative. I'm from Germany and was just about to buy the 650m-SLI-version when I read about the 750m-upgrades. I haven't found these available over here yet, and a quick call with the Lenovo-Shop didn't help either. I have now written a Mail asking about the availability of the 750er. I want this thing so bad, it looks awesome, I hope I'll be able to buy one soon.

for me it takes 14-15 seconds though i have installed bunch of heavy softwares and games
-
Thanks for info logan. From my point of view 16gb mSATA is just fine with 15-16sec. boot time...

Got mine yesterday. I absolutly love this machine. I got the single 750M instead of the SLI version and it runs on high for every game I play(not a hard core gamer). I have one issue though, when I press the "Delete" button the area around it sinks down a little and I didn't force it just the same force as I press the touchpad buttons. Does any of you have the same issue as I described? Or is that an issue at all, if not, then I can just enjoy mt new laptop instead of returning and getting a replacement stuff. Thank you all.

Also, how did you guys managed to open the back? I followed a video online but the back won't open even after I took out all the screws. I didn't force it too hard because I didn't want to break it. -
I am getting worried about lenovo's quality control. My laptop came fine but so many people have problems.

Just got my SLI unit after returning my single unit. Very impressed with the improvement. Skyrim pegs 60fps consistently with Ultra settings(I keep shadows at High though). I notice a little more noise with the extra fan but all in all I'm very happy. I personally was getting annoyed with the DVD player on the single card model because it kept accidentally opening when I picked up the unit on the sides. I could have had a defect though. The heat seems to be about the same as the single model for normal lap use. I'll try gaming with it on my lap later today.

Does anyone know when places like Amazon are supposed to get the 750m SLI laptops?
Lenovo pushed back my delivery date by 3 weeks, and I'm leaving for the summer a few days before the new delivery date. Can I call them and ask for a rushed manufacture and shipping? -
My God, I'm in the same boat. I'm leaving the US in exactly 7 days and Best Buy still doesn't stock the 750 version (I gotta buy it from Best Buy because I have a gift certificate.). As of today, they do not even have the Y500 in stock anymore.

If you do need to cancel your order, and decide that you absolutely need to have laptop in-hand (as in, must-have; not a nice-to-have before you left), then you can always buy a pre-configured system off of Amazon. Get next-day shipping, and have a dual 650M model Y500 laptop in-hand by Friday 17 May 2013. If you have Amazon Prime, next-day shipping will cost you $4. -
I called Lenovo and told them a bull story how I was going on vacation for a month and I ended up getting the laptop two business days later lmfao.

I'm tempted to buy the Y500 from Amazon, but it says 650m when I click on Product Details.
I called Amazon and asked about the 750m SLI... the rep wasn't too knowledgeable about the Y500. He just looked at lenovo.com and told me that lenovo was selling 750m's on their site, so he thought that the Amazon ones would also have the 750m. I'm hoping someone else knows if Amazon has the new laptops yet... -
Amazon.com is VERY good about keeping their product listings updated, as well as estimated inventory and shipping status. That type of inventory and shipping accuracy is one of the big competitive advantages of Amazon. So if you see it on their website, order it. If you don't see it on their website, then calling a sales representative on the phone won't help. That person will not have "secret inside knowledge" of what might be sitting in the warehouse. -
Amazon is also very good at giving 100 percent returns for wrong description, if you wanted to chance it. I returned an open laptop due to a bad description and they paid the shipping return. No restocking fee. I am a long term prime customer so I don't know if that had influence

Has anyone picked up crucial's new m500 series ssd?
